    Awesome. Conventions have changed so much.
    I used to go to San Diego comic con when I was a young all the time. When I met Stan Lee I think in 1989...I literally bought a ticket at the front door and walked in. They were in the market floor and not many people bothered them too much. I shook hands with him, told him I admired his work and started looking for deals on old X-men comics.
    Since Iron Man, you can hardly get in anymore, hardly see anyone and no one reads comic books. But thats the times I guess. Cosplay was big then too, I never did, but have sone friends that do, still do to this day.

      Cons are trash, at least the big ones. Went to Supercon and it was basically Demon Slayer Con. Nothing but mainstream crap and normies/tourists everywhere.

      Cons got better since 2010-ish. Before Onlyfans and sites like it, comic cons were the top place for many girls (not all of them) to "promote" themselves. Since Manyvids was created, all those girls ditched comic cons and made their way to Manyvids, OF and other platforms. Good riddance.

    As a member of the press we have seen you at quite a few conventions and I will say it's always nice to see you there. We spend hours covering cosplay and you are one of our favorite cosplayers because you put the energy and work into what you love. You are 100% correct it is like a job to be a guest cosplayer. If you add up the costs of hotels, props, food, spending money, gas/ubers etc it costs a lot. There is nothing wrong with a guest cosplayer asking for hotels/food expenses and an appearance fee to be covered. Before the convention most guest cosplayers spend a lot of money on photography shoots, prints, additional props, and banners. Not all guest cosplayers break even because we have been to conventions where people just don't buy the prints. We always try to buy something from each guest cosplayer we cover because we appreciate the excitement cosplay brings to conventions. Most people go to conventions for two reasons these days: cosplayers and celebrity guests. We also stop and support comic artists because without them comic cons wouldn't have become popular.

    What a Gorgeous woman!! Props for being a convention cosplayer. When I was going I'm not aware that it was a thing. We had the big costume contest (which I was the winner twice with all home made stuff at Chicago Comicon in 80s). That was about it. Then we all walked around in our costumes and took pictures with fans. What I discovered was that Fans of these character are SERIOUS fans. They know everything about these characters and think that you do as well if you are dressed up like one.So just being an actor in costume is NOT enough. you had better have memorized all of the characters history. Because they are going to come up and start asking you questions like YOU ARE THAT CHARACTER.

    I've gone to plenty of horror conventions. Sometimes I'm blown away with the lack of security.
    Because all it takes is that one single fan, who isn't right in the head to ruin everything.
    But for the most part, it's an awesome, fun time, especially the Q&A.

    • @ukmediawarrior
      @ukmediawarrior Місяць тому +2

      As a guy who did security for UK sci-fi cons I can attest to just how seriously we took the job. You are right, there is always that fan who thinks an actor is their long lost love etc, etc, but luckily in nearly 20 years of work I only personally had to handle a couple of overly touchy feely attendees. Usually simply moving up next to them and mentioning how long the line is so can they please move it along is all that's needed, sometimes a gentle hand on a shoulder does the job, lol.
      Basically your job is to be the bad guy. You're the one who prevents the attendee getting their selfie in the hotel corridor with the actor, while all along, as the actor makes sad faces and apologies to the person you know they asked you to make sure no one took pics with them, LOL :D It also helped if you made sure you were visible, not hard for me, I am 6'4 and back then built like a brick shit house, lol, and we always wore smart black suits with security plastered somewhere. That alone tended to subdue anyone who thought they might get away with something.

    • @molasorrosalom4846
      @molasorrosalom4846 Місяць тому +3

      Yeah, I saw a couple of pics that overzealous fans took with female wrestlers, and you could tell they weren't happy and beyond uncomfortable.
      Robert England, the actor who plays Freddy, usually has a paid guard standing behind him at the table.
      I wonder what happened.

    I was at a convention and a cosplay artist completely abondones their convention duties to site-see the city (I will not mention the con or the artist). The artist was a big name at the time and the rumblings through the comic con and the online posts afterwards were pretty harsh against them.
    As for myself, I am not a cosplayer, but I did go to a convention once with a vendor booth, and it was great to experience a con from the other side. 4 of us in a van and a Jeep Wrangler filled with stock. Getting to set up the day prior and watching the con take shape, then at the end watching how quickly it gets torn down was a site to see. I also organized the photo op with Stan Lee for my booth owner.
    But the highlight for.me, was after closing, getting the booth ready for the next day, I take oitlr trash to a garbage can, and have Stan Lee walk less then 10 feet away from me and be able to say hello to him.like meeting a friend on the street. Will be a comic con experience I will never forgot!

    I've been going to Megacon the last few years, and it exhausts me just as an attendee. I can only imagine being a guest there. I've never met you, but if we're both there next time, I'll definitely keep an eye out for your table. Meeting celebrities is cool and all, but some of the best times I've had there is meeting UA-cam creators and artists.

    It may have been a hell of a journey, but the love is strong! Both ways. I and many others thank you a whole lot for everything you do and being such a bright light in a slightly darkened world. You are one of the few that gave me the courage to get into cosplay despite my challenges. And I hope that this video just adds to encourage others to do that same. So again, thank you and I truly hope to see you again, to tell you that in person as well.

    That is an interesting insight on all the effort that pro cosplayers put into con appearances. I haven't approached a cosplayer's personal(?) booth nor followed any particular cosplayer, but now I think I appreciate your (i.e. cosplayer's) love for the art more. I'll try to say hi and maybe support them next time I visit a con :)
    I've only recently started wearing a costume when I visit comic con events for fun (twice so far), but I know that carrying the costume parts and accessories from parking to some area/bathroom near the event (to put them on) is a chore. But for me at least, those are times that I can let my inner nerd out :p

    A lot of UA-camrs out there have shifted their focus from the characters to the company. The only thing they do is complain about Disney all the time while repeatedly announcing the Mickeyocalypse of the House of Mouse. It gets old fast.
    But your primary focus has always been on the mythos and the stories and the characters. That's why I still watch your channel, Jay- because I know you love these characters as much as I have.
    You actually saved my sanity when Marvel & Star Wars went downhill. Because I knew I wasn't going crazy if other fans thought and felt the same things I did.

    I got to meet you at that MegaCon. I know a lot of work goes into cosplaying and you do a great job at it. Keep up the fantastic work.

    I did trade shows. Same as conventions. They are worse than a regular day of work. Changing shoes before leaving the convention center is mandatory. Pads for where you stand is a game changer. Rolling fold up carts are also awesome.

    I love this video. Being a guest is work and is also a blast. I've met some phenomenal people through guesting. It's definitely not for everyone lol! Get comfortable being uncomfortable. Hope to do a con with you someday Snarky!

    I believe you said you drive a Mustang!! That's a win for sure. After seeing this, all I think is the Donna Summer? classic, "She works hard for the money" in a classy way. You are doing a great job and the world needs people like you in the Entertainment business. Hang in there!
