Honestly one of the best REAL reviews of this model on UA-cam. I love how the creator mentions the missing 3rd screw on the bottom of the laptop. I open my computers all the time and i would have never known that was a design flaw and probably would have broken all my clips. These insights are why people look for computer reviews. I might look at the T460 now because of what was presented in this video.
I had a t460 at work. I wasn't happy at first, but I soon fell in love with it. I love the Thinkpad keyboards! Later, I decided to buy a refurbished t470 for home use. It came with Windows 10 Pro and 16 gigs of ram, and a 250 gig SSD drive. After many reminders it wasn't upgradeable to Windows 11 I nuked installed Linux Mint 21.2. It took a little tweaking but pretty much I was up and running right out of the box. I love it! I have a docking station with a 2nd monitor, Logitech webcam, Jabra, and 2 SSD drives attached. When I head out it's so easy to just pop it off the dock and go. Interesting though, mine does not have the fingerprint reader and it has 2 batteries, internal & external. Also, it has 6 screws holding the case together, so you are absolutely right. Be very very careful opening the case. My main use is simple, writing, surfing the net, and video conferencing. I wish you could upgrade the CPU, then this thing would pretty much last me forever.
I have T460 and T470 too, and this is my opinion:
> T460 + better keyboard, more deep feeling when typing.
+ I got with touchscreen display, I think the display have more accurate white color, the T470 have a warmer color.
+ when the CPU full load, the fan more silent.
> T470 + have a slimmer body, about 1.5 millimeter.
> The Thunderbolt 3 port is a great upgrade: USB Type C for data, dispay and charging.
And yes, opening backcover on T470 is more delicate than T460.
You forgot to mention the usb c port on the t470 also supports thunderbolt 3. So you can connect egpu and play games or connect to 4k monitors and many more.
I just bought one, used, but what I dislike compared to my old T450s is that they messed up the power bridge for the batteries. On the 450s the first one to drain was the external, but now they changed it so that the first to drain is the one with less wear to it...meaning, if I have two external batteries with me which have worse wear than the internal, then I am screwed, because the internal will discharge prior to the external. They basically destroyed the whole power bridge. They do excuse this by the fact, that the internal and external batteries wear similiary, but they should have included a setting for it for the user to decide. On my 450s my internal battery was as good as new, with minimal wear to it and the external one was the one that got the wear. On the other side, internal batteries are more expensive and lenovo figured out this could be a good money grab for them. They let me down...

T470 is the best laptop I have had, It had everything. Now laptops are crap. It was tricky to take apart.
It was a good one, I wish it had the quad core chips that the T480 had, however the 470 was a much better computer in build quality.

There isn't really that much difference - and he did point out the differences. There's a USB3 port (Thunderbolt) on the T470, the T460 just has the mini-DisplayPort. The CPU's are different too - the T460 has the 6th gen Intel U-series, while the T470 has the 7th gen. I'm typing this on a T460 :). Good machine, and unless you have a niche requirement for the slightly better CPU or USB 3 port (Thunderbolt), there really isn't that much difference (as pointed out in the video).
Is it me or the t470's body material has darker finish than the gray-ish t460, reminds me of the t430 and older Thinkpad models (which I like)

Excellent review! Thank you - especially for the warning about how to pull the T470 apart!! I use Linux exclusively and have ordered the T470p (because I mess around with CUDA and wanted an Nvidia GPU - even the 940mx and its 384 CUDA cores will do for my purposes). I could be wrong, but I believe Lenovo never released a 460 model with an Nvidia GPU.

How do you like the t410? Is it a good laptop?
t410 is a great little laptop! I've had several of them and the only issue I've run into is video drivers for Win10. When you install Win10 the video won't look great, but after a few days it will download updates and video will be B+ quality.
Thank you! I have eyes on the T460 and the T470, but the issue with the T470 is that it came with a 1TB HDD which I planned to replace with an SSD. Since they're isn't much difference between the two, I will go with the T460 with SSD to replace my old but faithful X230.
Replace the ssd yourself as itl likely come with a cheap one and that way you can just get a Samsung right away.

@@destinycoach5 The old drives are really slow in comparison and they will slow down your entire computer. Perhaps if you're just using it for very basic tasks it may not matter but in general I have not used a regular hard drive since 2010.

What is the difference in feel between the t460 and t470 trackpad feel of the surface and the click? Also, how do the keyboard feel compare?
I'm so happy to see someone else ask this. I ask about the mouse pad and cursor movement all the time and people simply won't answer the question. Itz like they have no idea there is a difference and I have 2 computers that I hate the mouse for the cursor doesn't do what it should.

Since the *30 series they made them more like any other laptop on the market, if not for the trackpoint and the red butons you wouldn't know it's a thinkpad.

Unless you need portability, id get an older quad core i7, like a Zbook 17 or 15.

I just want something that does what I want and does it fast. I can't stand it when I have to push a button 2 or 3 times or I get buffering. This is just for me in home use to store, store, make documents. I don't game.
I go for the business laptop cuz I bought one machine from best buy and I hated it so much I wanted to throw it against the wall every time I turned it on.

What are the displays like?
There are so many display options when you buy a Thinkpad... :( So because you'd be buying it used, you can probably only count on measuring it yourself before you buy OORRR expecting the worse screen option (like 250 nits) unless otherwise specified.

@@VSOUR88 “PowerBridge” is a internal-battery that’s permanently-connected to the motherboard (and is pretty-difficult for newbies to disconnect; I wouldn’t recommend, let-alone suggest, disconnecting any internal-battery unless you know what you’re doing and you’re prepared to live with the consequences of breaking the battery-cable and/or breaking the battery-socket that is on the motherboard) and a external battery.
The bullshit[/lie] [told by Lenovo] was “you can disconnect the external battery *without* first-turning-off the laptop”, but you can do that with any computer that DIDN’T have “power-bridge”; just have the laptop connected to the AC-adapter *BEFORE* you remove the external-battery (and the laptop will-NOT turn off).
It’s also not-a-good-idea to have any power-source connected to the laptop if you’re going to change the RAM and/or internal-storage of the computer, because you could short-circuit a component; it’s always best to make-sure you don’t have any electricity flowing THROUGH the computer BEFORE you make any changes to it. (And by “changes” I mean “physical changes”; hardware changes).

What color is the sky in your world? You either get it or you don't. Buying a Mac? Undisputed quality. Windows can do everything a Mac can do, but not the other way around. We're living in a Windows world & Lenovo is at the top.
What? So your software can run out of date after a few years? So you can carry 20 lbs around because it’s so heavy? The point of a laptop is portability. Nobody likes carrying around a MacBook. Not to mention the price, when you can get a thinkpad with the same specs at a fraction of the price.
