Hello I’ve done keto off and on for the past 6 years and it’s great. I always used to think my insulin spikes came from being pre-diabetic. It just isn’t the whole truth. I recently discovered that I have Hashimoto’s Disease and that there is an endemic of Hashi’s right now. Understanding Hashimoto’s has helped me understand even more about keto and how to make it more sustainable. I definitely didn’t expect what I found I thought I already was an expert. Great content thanks for promoting the best diet! 🎉

Kait, you are helping to change my thinking about my wife’s rice cooking technique. Latina’s “fry” the rice in a layer of oil, much like making risotto. After the oil is absorbed they add water. I used to think this was terrible but after arguing about it with her, her triglycerides are low and numbers are good. Go figure- lol. Oh - she did compromise and uses olive oil now.

The moment I found out I was dangerously close to becoming type 2 diabetic i changed my eating habits that exact day and your videos have made it so much easier. Fasting and eating healthy has become very easy to me now and just in 3 weeks I lost 20 lbs. I’m on month 3 and I have a doctors appointment coming up and for the first time in my life I’m excited for it. I’m even walking an hour every day now, and other than a few drizzles of sauces with my meals I haven’t had a single grain of added sugar since my initial results came in. Thank you so much and keep ‘em coming!

I second what this dude just said! I've lost 80 lb in 6 months and with a really busy schedule as difficult for me to exercise as much as I would like so this is pretty much strictly off of diet and trying to remain in ketosis I try to stick with underneath 30 g of carbohydrates a day but sometimes I go up to about 40 did I don't know how much I've improved my insulin resistance but my A1C drop back down to normal range at 5.4 in my blood sugar after eating half a rotisserie chicken was 80 so I think I'm doing massively better and I just feel better all the time compared to how I was 80 lb to go with high blood sugar..
Your videos have helped me massively!! Plus you look like Debra from Dexter!😊

You nailed it. My vice is red and rosè wine. My eating 🍽️ as I’ve said on here a few times, is pretty much centered around animal proteins and green veggies 🥬. It has to stay that way in order for me to keep from craving sugars. The naturally occurring fat does what its supposed to do. Satiety is where it’s at.

I understand that, although there is no added sugar, the drying process concentrates the fructose. They're also in much smaller have than sweets. What are your thoughts, please? Hi, I love watching your videos and learn so much! I'm just wondering if you've any tips on how to not get gestational diabetes if i got pregnant again? I had it last year and remained diet controlled thankfully. I would like not to get it again as it stressed me out last time. I even done your test where you check if you're insulin sensitive/resistance with your triglycerides and HDL and got 0.6 is this a good result? Thank you x

    • @HealthCoachKait
      @HealthCoachKait  9 місяців тому +1

When we are pregnant, we become insulin-resistant naturally. If we are metabolically healthy before the pregnancy then this is not enough to cause gestational diabetes. However, if we are insulin resistant going into the pregnancy then the resistance compounds. If you have been taking steps to improve your insulin resistance before the pregnancy then you are setting yourself up to not be in that situation.
Yes, that is a good ratio! I will say that cholesterol numbers improve quickly once you start making changes, so it might be worth testing your fasting insulin and HOMA-IR just to be sure!

I used to think i couldnt give up bread or pasta, but it definitely was a lot easier once i started making small changes. My taste buds started to change and i dont want those items anymore. i now crave foods i used to absolutely despise (ie cottage cheese and avocado)
Of all these things, the 1 item i cant give up is tropical fruit, bananas specifically. I eat them just about everyday. I eat them as my dessert, though. I put banana and peanut butter on a low carb wrap and i cant get enough. Thats so much better than the desserts i used to eat and i still get my daily fill of bananas. I have come light years in my health journey just since this past january. Diabetes runs rampant in my family (3 of 5 members of my nuclear family are diabetic) and i knew sooner than later, itd be me. Now, im confident that wont be the case.

Agree with many comments. You have to mentally adjust your mind as to what is the real purpose of eating. For those of us who really enjoyed sweet "foods" like chocolate, soft drinks , donuts, cakes etc, once you realise and understand that that these types of sugars and ultra refined carbs are chemically TOXIC to your cell metabolism, then you will (or you will need to) look at food differently. You can easily train yourself to eat for nutrition and not be "conned" by the sugar/fat/salt combination that food manufactures use manipulate to increase consumption of their product ( to get you to buy and eat more).Remember that the business objective of these companies is to make money off you consuming as much of their product as possible at all times of the day. When your health is adversely affected, then the pharma industry steps in and makes money off you in treating the symptoms of your poor diet. So everyone is making money from convincing people to make poor food choices and in keeping them unhealthy for as long as possible - basically from cradle to grave. When you start changing the way and what you eat, initially our taste buds can work against you ( wanting sweet things) but this can easily be overcome once you start on the path of eating for nutrition not eating for that "taste" sensation. It comes down to how you think about food. It comes down to whether you want to pay money to companies that have a vested interest in KEEPING you unhealthy or whether you take control of yourself and resist the psychological / marketing manipulation.

Kaitlin, please clarify the yogurts. Not sure what the issue with flavored yogurt. Sugared, flavored with fruit? You were saying full fat is better? Plain yogurt is so tart. Would a teaspoon of honey be acceptable?

These all seem obvious to me now, but I probably ate 13/14 regularly before. For me, only drinking water after I used to drink soda (pop), gatorade, and orange juice has probably made the biggest difference. Whether it is the empty calories or the sugar crashes or the satiation, I think that is a place that a lot of people can start.

How about toasted bread with some proteins

How about bananas before they fully ripen? I still find them flavorful (especially apple bananas) and heard they have resistant starch.

Yes, bananas that are not fully ripe have less sugar + more resistant starch and can be a better option than fully ripe ones. Just always make sure to pair them with protein and fat ❤️

My question is I am told I have insulin resistance and unsure how to raise it back up when I'm in the hypoglycemic point. Everything tells you sugar and stuff you shouldn't have🥺🥺 any ideas.

If I’m on a keto diet can I have sugar carbs and stay in ketosis if the sugar carbs are under the 30-40 carb threshold? In other words, do the type of carbs matter when it comes to staying in ketosis?

all the bad stuff. That is all my parents will eat. They refuse to listen or change, probably a common thing. The hospital food my dad got was worse with full sugar soda pop. cake bread biscuits etc.. there are a lot of hurdles , free availability of bad choices. I think some austerity of diet should especially apply to people in hospital. Feed them nutrients not carbs!
