Great video Kait. I would like to note that even the cereal and bread products currently labeled as keto friendly, which are now available, are deceptive. I have tried these products thinking I could have something other than eggs, but I found I had been kicked out of ketosis while my blood sugar numbers skyrocketed. I think these products need to be approached with extreme caution.
Oh wow really? Thats fascinating and also quite worrying. It's a minefield trying to find good products. I found that my blood sugar spiked in the morning regardless of what I ate. My lunch time blood sugar was always way lower. I swapped the meals I ate around and was surprised there was no difference. I talked to my diabetes physician and she told me having an insulin spike in the morning was relatively common. I wonder if this is only common for people with insulin resistance.
I have been told by my doctors to stay away from all grains and fats, including oatmeal and to include more proteins. I’m not Diabetic but Pre-Diabetic.
Yes, please! I'd love everything that helps me with my insulin resistance. I'm between homes at the moment, so would love to get my new kitchen squared away with all thr good things to help me with my pcos and insulin resistance issues. Thank you, Kait!
Great video, Kait! I always like your detailed, easy-to-understand approach. The information is helpful and not confusing at all. I don't even eat breakfast, but I love watching your videos just for the knowledge I gain. Keep it up! Thanks for all your hard work!
My best breakfast: steak prepared in tallow, only salt added 😀 Plus sometimes a slice of Ezekiel bread with liverworst, this gives me excellent glycemic control 👍
Knew about many of these foods, but surprised about 1) all cereal, 2) oatmeal, 3) fruits as options for breakfast. Thought some cereals might be healthy ;(
I used to eat oatmeal for breakfast before work and would always crash hard a few hours later. I could never figure out why, I felt extremely tired and drunk like. I've tested my blood glucose thinking it was low but would be 130+. When I would eat eggs, I'd feel full for 5+ hours with no crash. It took me a while but I eventually stopped eating carbs, going keto and it's the best I've ever felt. So much more energy and clarity. I was miserable all the time eating carbs. Though a problem I have now is if I eat too much fat I'll almost get the same way, very tired needing to nap sometimes. Almost as bad as after eating carbs but not. I'll usually wait to later in the day to eat for this reason.
One bacon rasher dipped in two raw egg yolks, then I suck on spoonfuls of salted butter until early afternoon. My hair finally feels like hair after 4 years of it feeling like straw. And it's growing! So happy!
Great video Kait. We as Americans and the Western diet have been brain washed by the grain industry marketing over the past 100 years. Thank you for bringing this real dietary problem to light.❤
Great video, Kait. But you can have waffles and pancakes aslong as they are keto. Make a batter with cream cheese, eggs and either almond or coconut flour :)
I would like a video on grapefruit. Since it cannot be eaten if you take metformin since acts like metformin and can drop you to low. So why not just eat grapefruit and quit the metformin and the side effects?

Thanks Kait. I don’t put bananas or high sugar fruit in a smoothie. If I do make a smoothie it’s with coconut milk and low sugar fruits like wild blueberries, and I don’t use fruit juice. I abandoned bananas long ago. I’m going to watch your other video now :)
Was a bit surprised by oatmeal on your list. I have 1/4 cup steel cut oats every other morning with unsweetened soy milk, protein powder, berries, 1/2 small banana, and nuts. Seems pretty darn healthy to me👍 What do you think?
Surprised by oatmeal because i've been having this everyday now for 1 week and every morning when i test my blood sugar level, it's not going below 6.5
What are the best nuts? I have read that a handful of nuts are good in the morning, handful as in your palm or one article suggested 17 pieces of the following: almonds, walnuts and pistachios. How they came up with 17? That wasn't explained. LOL. That with a protein shake? I use Dymatize Elite Whey.
Hi Kate , thanks for your informative videos. I am diabetic, I stopped eating rice or bread in lunch and dinner to control my sugar level. However , my doctor told me not to shut off carbohydrate as the body needs some carb. So although I dont eat rice or bread in lunch and dinner I have my daily breakfast by making a shake blending 1 banana , plain yoghurt, 2 tbsp peanut butter, little vanilla extract and water . Is this shake bad breakfast for diabetic myself ?
Hii, what about coffee? Is it better to just avoid it or you can have it without a problem. I do not drink the black coffe or latte, I love nesscafe. So yeah, I hope I‘ll get the answer soon so I could know if I should stop with the coffe or I can drink it.
I just found you and I'm not surprised at this report. What are your thoughts on protein shakes, Slimfast advanced energy or advanced nutrition specifically.? They were advised by a doc to ensure calcium consumption.
I eat green banana, the ones completely green, unripe, sprinkle with ground flaxseed, hempseed, cinnamon powder, topping olive oil. I test my blglucose, it's not different than any other low carb foods. Green bananas are pre biotic and very good for gut health, very low sugar similar to rasberries. I eat this recipes after my eggs or other protein foods. Can be mixed with plain yogurt. I use protein A2 plain yogurt from Bellwether brand, sometimes I mix with full fat cottage cheese.
I was surprised at oatmeal being on the list. It is such a confusing food. Some people say its the best in the morning and then others say it is the worst.

People fall for the cereal myth so hard that it's really mind boggling, especially what these packages of dead, processed grains cost. Add the juice and toast/muffins, and it's diabetes highway!
Great video Coach! Just wondering, even though these aren’t the best breakfast’s, would it be better to eat them with strategy! For example if I drink my acv and pair my bagel with smoked salmon and avocado would I be ok to eat it or should I just leave it alone? In addition to this Id love to see an idea breakfast for insulin resistance video if you already don’t have one out!😁
For sure! Everything is on a spectrum. You can make any meal better for insulin resistance by adding/swapping ingredients or using ACV before! Best breakfast video is coming up next week!
Kait, I just found you and love your videos. :):) Do you believe this breakfast would still spike my insuline??? I eat steel cut oats to stabilize ldl cholesterol. In a bowl I may have 1/4-1/2 cup of cooked oats with handful of fresh blueberries, 3-4 walnuts, a splash of almond milk, a dash of cinnamon, Tbls of flax meal and a Tbls of MCT oil. It is also the only breakfast that keeps my full for 5-6 hrs.
Do you have a blood sugar meter? Take a measurement after eating to know for sure but it sounds like there’s enough fat that there wouldn’t be a big spike. Try to get some protein in though! Also, on the note of cholesterol check out some of my videos on the subject ua-cam.com/video/rs_gmfU5twg/v-deo.html Focusing on LDL doesn’t tell you much about your health/disease risk. HDL and triglycerides are stronger indicators ❤️
Hi, Thank you for the video. I've been starting my day with a smoothie; banana, water, Whey protein powder, oat milk powder, turmeric powder, walnuts and psyllium. My doctor after last visit said I am getting close to insulin resistance and wants to see me every 3 months to monitor (I'm 66). Should I swap out the banana for berries or is there enough protein and fiber to balance it out. Later I often have thick cut oatmeal, ginger/cinnamon powder, berries, topped with olive oil and 1tbs honey. Should I switch out for other choices.
I'm a bit confused. Is savory oatmeal ok for insulin resistance? For example I like to have my oatmeal with veggies and meat/eggs/tofu. And when I drink smoothies besides fruit I put nuts/ coconut oil/ peanut butter / oatmeal/ tofu/ carrots/greek yoghurt in it.
I feel like a lot of the things you mentioned people see body builders eating and they want to emulate them. However their CAREER is to grow (muscle) and unless you're doing the amount of training they're doing you don't need as much insulin.
Hii. I'm new to yours channel. Do you recommend a protein powder for shakes? I've been drinking the Akins coffee shake and in late April Ealing May I will be having Bariatric sleeve surgery. My doctor say any protein shake will do but I'm at a loss with the amount of different brands and flavors. I have to consume 60+ grams of protein a day. Thank you
I always recommend eating whole foods where possible BUT I understand shakes are necessary for some situations. I highly recommend the meal replacement shakes from HLTH Code hckait.com/hlth I relied on these when I was on a liquid diet after jaw surgery a year ago. They are developed by Dr. Ben Bikman who is one of the top researchers in insulin resistance. The ingredients is amazing and one shake gives you 30g of protein.
Kait, when it comes to Greek Yogurt what is the way to go? 0%, 2% or 5% fat? Costco has a good deal on their 0% but I keep reading full fat is better, like the Fage 5%. What your though? Love your videos and a best breakfast option video would be great. Thanks!
What do you suggest for someone like me who never feels satisfied without carbs. I can stuff myself till I'm sick with animal products and I feel like I'm starving! I have 1 piece of bread and I'm satiated. I lean towards carbs because of this vs. A bunch of food that leaves me hungry. Any idea why? I've tried fixing this issue for years and nothing has changed.
I think it is psychological. Eating bread is a habit. You can't satisfy your body with a slice of bread because bread has no nutritonal value. Also, we know refined carbs couses addiction by stimulating dopamin receptors. Just break your habit with willpower.
An exception to #6 would be carnivore pancakes (pancakes made from roasted bone marrow with an equal quantity of eggs). I haven't made them yet. I found the recipe on Ancestral Healing on UA-cam.

You know your body best. If you are getting enough protein and fat with your meals, and need a bit of carbs to feel your best, that’s totally fine!
@@HealthCoachKait thanks 😊👍
I think it is psychological. Eating bread is a habit. You can't satisfy your body with a slice of bread because bread has no nutritonal value. Also, we know refined carbs couses addiction by stimulating dopamin receptors. Just break your habit with willpower.
If you are eating carnivore and still crave for carbs, that means you don't eat enough fat. Especially saturated fat.
I’m the same way. There’s nothing more satiating than meat and starch together.
An exception to #6 would be carnivore pancakes (pancakes made from roasted bone marrow with an equal quantity of eggs). I haven't made them yet. I found the recipe on Ancestral Healing on UA-cam.
Sounds good! I don’t think that’s what comes to mind for most people when they hear “pancakes” though 😂 Chaffles are also 🔥
