- I've put this project off for too long, it's time to finally fix up the rest of my property instead of just the shop itself. It's long overdue, and a lot of work needs to be done to save it.

Id watch taylor fix a toilet lol
Facts. We would get a true tutorial!
I’m watching it on the toilet 😂😂
Same 😂😂😂
Sounds shitty
You know it would quickly turn into a full house rebuild
You know you're equally as old when at one point you wouldn't care about someone else's lawn but now will gladly watch someone attempt to repair their property.
@@eriklarson9137 Me also & I don't know why ? Well kind of " I'M GETTING OLD " SHIT.
Working on irrigation systems really blows. I came to watch the struggle I know it's going to be
100%. I end up watching so many of those disaster yard cleanup videos on YT 😂
Can’t wait to see Part 2
I cant believe its been 3yrs that you have been at your new house. Feels just like yesterday you were working in the open shop talking about enclosing it.
no joke
Time flies
smash mouth was right, the years start coming and they dont stop coming.
Leave the well pressurized, turn off all sprinklers, listen to each feed coming from the well. You'll be able to hear the leak.
If it’s main line. If it’s a lateral then no water would come up. Water 24/7 if it’s main. If it’s a lateral that’s far more ideal. Watch the meter or put your ear up to the back flow preventer to hear if water is still flowing with the sprinklers off.
Or classic dye injection at known points… then you have a map of where each leads
Yup.. its like how you find a duff parking sensor.
Yes you should be able to hear it. Being a retired heating guy I've fixed many under concrete radiant heating leaks. Using a medical stethoscope I could pinpoint a leak to within 12 inches.
@@BobWiersema I was thinking thermal camera but I like the idea of a stethascope too!
It would be neat to see a collaboration with the LawnCareNut. I'm sure he'd be able to get your yard to the right level.
Ol’Uncle Al to the rescue. Thow’er Down!
LawnCareNut For The Win! :)
Even just watching a few of his videos have made my lawn look mint 👌uncle Al knows his stuff
@thelawncarenut
Came to ask for a @lawncarenut collab
I'm a big fan of the rabbit hole. My first thought was if you completely pull up the driveway you will find the leak and get a brand new driveway. Win win situation.
If this was 10-15 years ago sure. Now, even doing a partial repair would be well over 20k. If they can find the pipe and it doesn't run the length of the drive way it's easy to re-run it under and patch back into either side.
I’ve been doing sprinkler repairs/installs for 20 years, I’d just like to say good job on the troubleshooting part, you did the best you could as a homeowner, 99% of the rest of average homeowners wouldn’t be able to do even half the stuff you did to troubleshoot. You also repaired everything correctly which is also something that most homeowners can’t do for some reason. From a professional I’d definitely say you guys should be proud that you were able to get the things done you did. Good job 👍🏻
It’s because people are dumb dumbs, I’m younger and I am always surprised at how many adults don’t have a questioning mind set and don’t have the drive to critically think about a situation and learn.
But to each their own, if you got the money, spend it on a service
Honestly Taylor I think you should dig up and replace as much pipe as you can because imagine the one by the side of your shop blows when your out of town and you come back and it’s flooded
I don't think he leaves his well pump on all the time since he has city water for everything else. If he does, then I'd agree.
PEX PEX and more PEX!
With all the pipe’s being brittle it might be best to start over. That way you can route it the way you want. The pressure seems low on the side where the trailers are. There might be more hidden sprinklers you haven’t found or cracked pipes.
The pipes are all old and it sure looks like most of them were not very deep. Trying to "fix" that rat's nest is a losing proposition. I'd start over for sure. Otherwise, it will be a yearly pain in the ass. Not to mention, watering a lawn that is in that kind of condition won't magically bring grass back. It will end up just watering weeds that grow a lot faster than grass. Well, at least he'll have a lot of content for years to come.
FWIW, when using a well for irrigation you'll want to size your zones to take at least 100% of water volume. If you undersize the zone (removing sprinklers, or change the head to lower volume) your well pump can cycle and shorten its life. You can oversize the zone and you'll lose some pressure/distance at each head, but the pump won't cycle.
Just make sure the well pump stays running when each zone is on.
There comes a point in every "handyman's" life when he has to seek professional help. He's just gonna waste time, energy, and money trying to fix it himself. At least get someone knowledgeable to help figure out the major problems.
I love how Taylor sees problems and systematically breaks them down.
I never thought about how much effort goes into a sprinkler system, my lord! Bloody enjoyable video though, well done Taylor
Seriously, it’s awesome that you can be entertaining no matter what content you put out. This was out of the blue, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
For real. I can't believe I watch an entire video of him just fixing broken PVC & replacing heads.
Guy could mow his lawn & I'd watch it😅
You should get a smart controller for your system. It's so convenient to be standing in the middle of the yard turning zones on and off when you are troubleshooting. I have the Bhyve and it's great.
I don't know why but Josue helping Taylor with this is so wholesome lol
Probably a line coming from the house to the shop back when it was all well. Under the concrete. Try IR camera on a hot day to see the cool spot from the water?
Your whole channel has been motivating, I’m in a similar situation, bought a house with a shop last year, and have spent most of my spare time getting the shop sorted. Definitely need to start working on the rest of the property and house.
Only this guy can keep me entertained for 34 minutes fixing his lawn irrigation. I do think that redoing the entire thing with semi flexible lines is the way to go for long term
Taylor, the backflow leaks sometimes because it’s doing it’s job. They’re designed to prevent reverse flow so when the backflow experiences reverse flow it opens the relief valve, which is your leak. Cool video
Really like your storytelling related to things like the house the shop and the truck issues👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I don't think there is any project you could do at this point that won't be interesting to watch! I'm normally only interested in watching car content yet here I am wanting more yard content! Love the way you tackle your projects no matter what it is, keep killing it mate!
You need to get with the guy who helped get the grass at the Freedom Factory started. That Scotts pro Vista is really nice and stays green
@lawncarenut
@Austin yes thank you. His name is Alan right? I keep thinking it's wrong because of the Alan who does the aviation stuff.
@@EskimoKillaz Allyn Hane is the Lawn Care Nut.
Old Plumbers Trick.
Put a long Screwdriver on top of where your leak is.
Put the handle to your ear and keep changing zones until you hear the water running through the pipe below the concrete.
It will be loud enough to hear no problem.
Always thought some videos about the house would be cool! Enjoyed the shop build.
😎👍
Sprinklers can be a pain working with old stacked on systems.
Recommendation now is to draw up a sketch for future use. I thought I would remember where I put sprinkler lines before but 5years later I ended up having to dig around to find them again.
Before all the time you already put in, I would have recomended renting a ditch digger and just putting in a new system. At this point though you just need to finish up the repairs and send it.
Pick up a rachio wifi controller or even a rainbird. Prevent those trips to the garage to test zones
You might want to check out dosing to try and find the pipe under ground without digging. Essentially you take 2 pieces of solid copper wire and bend a 90 in each and lightly hold them in your hands facing forward and walk over a pipe with water in it and the rods will face each other inwards when your heels are directly over the pipe. Used to do it all the time working at golf courses, no idea how it works but it definitely does!
It would be simpler to get a couple of rolls of PEX and rent a trencher for the day. You're going to be chasing PVC breaks forever.
You can abandon the existing lines and start fresh. When you install the new lines lay some tracer tape inside the trench and create a map of the lines.
PEX requires no cure, just expand the line, slide the fitting in and push together. A 300 foot roll of 1/2 : PEX is under $100. A Ditch Witch rents for $80 a day.
For the pipe under the driveway
Most plumbing company's have a line locator to help find the route. Then look into pipe bursting to replace it without digging it up. The manual pipe buster that you drag through the old pipe would be ideal and very cheap
I do sprinkler systems for a living. Keep the water on at the back flow with the well pressurized. Turn off the controller and watch the crack. If water is still coming up you have a main line leak and would probably need to re bore pipe under the concrete. If the leak subsides, turn on zone by zone to see what zone initiates the leak. You could either cap the zone at one side of the lateral and abandon it underneath the concrete or again rebore. Lmk with any questions love the content❤
Also to add. If it’s a lateral go to the valve boxes (green lid) and you can follow lateral lines that way, one perk is pvc they try to pull straight to stay away from fittings like 90s and 45s so should be a relatively straight shot.
I'm digging this project. Can't wait to see how it all comes together.
I feel like it would have been easier to start from scratch lol
I have new neighbors that moved next to me. The house and yard were pristine prior to them but It is now neglected with weeds 4 feet high on all sides. It is a kick in the gut for those who take pride in a good looking neighborhood.
Be a good idea to have a way to hook the well to the house. During bad hurricane you could loose the city water. Run the well off a generator and feed the house. Nice having some redundancy.
Ah the ol sprinkler rabbit hole. It took me so long to fix and dial in my system. And once it was all working....the sprinkler pump check valve started leaking. It's finally all good 🤞🏽
I got a good amount of land that needs plenty of work still. Yet here I am watching you clean up your little slice
This is such a funny timed video! Ive been living at my spot for 2 years now and I spent yesterday and today digging up my sprinklers.
2024 You need start with pre Emergent to keep the crab grass under control. You can try a post emergent, but that would be costly. Once you get rid of the crab grass your lawn will make a major turn around.
I love your DIY stuff. Like your property is the ideal and perfect setup. Nice big shop, nice big driveway, nice plant life, and nice big yard
@TheLawncareNut you gotta come get this man’s lawn looking like the infield of the Freedom Factory!
Great video. I remember I helped a buddy of mine with his mysterious broken sprinkler pipe. When his ran his back yard would turn into a giant water bed. It was so weird.
I like the roto-heads. There is no misting and my grass has been thicker because the disperse water much better.
It's amazing how I want my yard to look like a golf course. Never found to make it in this life. One can dream though.
Looking forward to part 2
We love the non car content just as much as cars
You’ve had that house/property for three years now?! Man time flies by so quick. Love the content!
A divining rod will help you find your pipe. My neighbor used a coat hanger to make one. Worked pretty good.
I have a similar size yard, mine is almost 2 acres, and I also have a lot of trees. With trees comes leaves and sitting leaves kill grass. That is why I bought a used Walker t23 collection mower this year. I am going to use a collection deck in the fall to pick up leaves and a mulching deck in the summer. You may want to consider a mower like that. I hate raking leaves so bad that I justify the cost. Pretty sweet that your house has a sprinkler system tho and it only costs the price of electricity for pumping the water. You should reach out to the lawn-care nut and have him help u grow back the grass.
You should put road millings down on the side/back of the garage where you plan on keeping the trailer and other vehicles
Love that he has such a supportive community that he can post stuff like this and still get a positive response from it good on you Taylor Big love from Ireland 🇮🇪
Near death experience today rock climbing. This is exactly what I need to relax.
Taylor...FWIW I would abandon the leaking pipe and rebuild the feed. I would also use Schedule 40 pipe not the thin wall stuff. Bring the main feed around the shop. Do it once, it'll last...I run irrigation on 11 acres FWIW.
Good video!!! I’m in the process of having to move some sprinklers myself. Good to watch today!
Replace the old burn barrel with a cool old racing fuel barrel or one with a tire stack cover!! Would let your neighbors know what your driveway/ shop is 😂
Turn the old burn barrel into a cool fire pit !!
Been there...sprinkler lines suck!!! Still dealing with mine 10yrs later. Just got done fixing lines for a month a d dealing with roots. Sucked big time!!! Be glad you have PVC. Definitely a broken pipe under driveway. You need to find the feed line (keep digging carefully) cap it and see if it stops. Then dig a ton more and run a new line to the non working zone/s. Also make a map so you have it for future repairs while its fresh in your mind. Good luck and happy digging. Wear gloves and stay hydrated.
11:39 did anybody see the Dodge truck?
just about to ask that
I’m pretty sure it was old matey’s that lent it to him to get home , this was just filmed before he took it back
I thought the same thing but the truck on this video was a dully.
couldn’t tell if it had temporary plates
@@ramonchavez7404 it’s a beast I reckon it’s new rig 👍
I honestly love these videos so much. Im not really a drifting fan. I dont watch it much. But watching you prep and watching your workflow especially on stuff like this is just awesome. Love to see it
Plus a leak means the well pump runs constantly and then burns out the pump. Here in northern Michigan a new well costs around $15,000.
2 ounce of DEF fluid for your truck, and the rest water in a 2 GAL water sprayer... use that on your lawn. Its a perfect NPK ration for your grass.. your grass will turn green and the weeds will fade away
Next time you need to dig around some pipes like that, you can use a pressure washer to clear the soil off of it without risk of hitting it with a shovel. Also, get yourself some metal detector tape to put in with the pipe so you can always locate it later.
cmon taylor go full camarata, get the heavy equipment in there
I can’t help but think Andrew would end up using a chainsaw on this job somehow, someway.
Call the Lawn Car Nut!
I literally just started fixing all the sprinklers all over my property i had no idea i had, too!
It wouldn’t be very hard to trench a new line under the concrete, you go under twice and then be back to your valve manifold. Just take a 1 inch cap and drill several small holes at angles and attach a water hose to the end. If you dig out where pipe will run and bend the pipe to be horizontal with the bottom of the trench it’ll push straight through and out of the other side.
Hey Taylor just an idea if the fitting doesn’t have some sort of stop on the inside of it you can put the fitting all the way onto your patch piece and then hold it in place and push the fitting back onto the other pipe I’ve found that you can get a tighter fit that way also pvc irrigation looks like a pain in New England most irrigation systems are a 1” plastic pipe
Take a dirt rake, scratch up the dirt, or patchy spots, put your grass seed down, cover it with hay. Works like a charm
@TxofficialTaylorRay1-tm1nk 😲 ya know? Normally I would trust a message like that. But you, you seem alright.
You can heat pipe with a hot air gun or a mapp torch. Just slowly heat and keep torque on the pvc until it starts bending and the dip it in cold water to harden it again
For Crabgrass and Dallis grass...use MSMA (not sure of your grass type Bermuda or St. Augustine). Plenty of options for broadleaf weeds.
I'm a couple months away from being a Floridian and this was interesting. I like nice landscaping to go with a nice shop. Really enjoy your channel.
Instead of digging up yard to trace piping you can you a piece of small round stock with a T handle to probe yard to track piping.
That will break irrigation pipe.
Put some small trees to protect the lawn. Also, spray water during the night. During the day, the sprinkets act as lens and burn the grass.
As you're going to redo most of it, you should get these concrete underground box. Put all valves in it.
I've been waiting for this!! In NY we use 1 inch poly and we use a ditch witch machine to bury the poly. So much easier then hand digging the pipe. Maybe they rent them down there to replace your supply line under the driveway. Also you can adust the heads with a channel lock while its popped up instead of taking it apart everytime.
Taylor Ray now a home improvement channel, quality entertainment. We have transcended.
Lawns are fickle, especially in Florida. Wild how it was when purchased to now. Can go quickly.
There should be a way you can run 24v to that yard box with the manual valve and add a electronic one and make it wireless, set timers all that from your phone and do it with the other sprinkler zones as well
If it was my yard, I'd dig that trench round the shop, across to the control valves and replace both the zone and the feed with pe pipe.
Id think about replacing the grass with something else like a clover field, something that requires less water and can handle the dogs.
My kids love watching your videos with me! Thanks for posting!
Use a coat hanger bent in a 90 and walk with it in your hand it will move when you cross pipes and wires. It works
Love these types of house/garage maintenance type videos from car people. Hopefully there more like this Taylor. 😊
Use a shop vac to clean up the holes while digging it’s so much easier
If you run a new main line to the pump. Run a control cable so you can add a valve for the manual zone in the center island.
Great idea
Just to put it out there...
I've done landscape before... And noticed that you had a new shovel....
Take 5 minutes and use a grinder to sharpen the curved/scooped side of your shovel(leaving the back side flat).....
You can send beer later..... ;)
While you have most of it dug up take your drone up and take some pictures… This way you can go back to those pics for reference later when something else springs a leak 3 years from now. You could get your nerd on by adding different colored lines to the pics just to show the zone and or head locations, as well as pipe and solenoid valve placement.
Time to rent a trencher and trench some new PEX lines throughout the yard. I just did this, cost me about $500 total to do 300 ft of 3/4 inch garden hose.
Lawn Care Nut and Taylor Ray, couple of the guys I watch the most…. Who knew one day there’d be a bit of cross over. Let me just tell you, lawn care is going to take CONSTANT babysitting. This entire yard needs to be scrapped clean, put down some pre emergent and lay down some fresh pro vista sod
I really enjoyed this. Love the house vids. Reminds me of the shop build
Race cars 🏎️ and lawn care ⛳️ your right up my alley 👌🏿
This one hit home. Getting ready for race season has made my backyard a jungle. Probably going to take 3 days to get it squared up again. Ugh.
Regarding the sprinklers on rigid PVC pipe above ground you really should paint any PVC that is exposed to the sun or it will quickly deteriorate. Or wrap the PVC. Anything to block the sun.
New subscriber.
I enjoy channels that go completely off-genre from time to time. This is a perfect example. Thanks!
One word: "Dowsing" - Sounds crazy, I know. But I've witnessed it work. I have even tried my hand at it with some minimal success.
Stoked to see part 2
Man.. I had noticed that puddle there in so many episodes.. But always assumed it was just a rain puddle.
Good luck guys on finding the missing pipe and having a nice green yard for the dogs and humans soon!
Soft line is the key to success. Save the hard pipe for the pools 👍🏽
Great video as always Taylor. You can make almost anything entertaining and valuable to us. Great work!
Arizona PVC trick. Lather the pvc in paint, it will protect the plastic from the UV rays of the sun and extend the life of the PVC
Switch to a Rachio or wifi enabled system. Makes running your system a breeze as you can run and program it from your pocket. 100% worth the money.
Wow, awesome! That looks like a ton of work.
I highly suggest the Orbit 57950 B-Hyve smart 12 zone sprinkler controller. It has classic controls, but also wifi and will automatically adjust watering based on weather conditions.
It allows you to put in soil type, and it will automatically determine how long to water, and everything.
There are also cups you can buy to fine tune it. Basically set them out, run the app, tell it how much water each zone receives, and it does all the calculations and everything. Save water and able to turn zones off and on with your phone, and get reports of water usage and everything.
This looked like one hell of a process ahaha really love that kind of video ! Awesome work guy's!
I can't wait for the next episode when you dig up every line and do it all from scratch. You could give somebody like 'Allen The Lawn Care Nut' a call, collab on some yard work with a UA-camr, and get a brand new irrigation setup. You'll get it dialed 🤙🏻
