I tried to get into fly fishing 3 years ago after buying this rod. Absolutely hated it, but being new... I had no idea why. I'm just sitting down to dig into what could make it better, and as soon as you mentioned the line sucking I had this "AH HA!" moment. Ordering new line as we speak to give it another go. Yeah the line is complete crap. I swapped mine out with a good soft line and it’s a game changer for sure. Hope you stick with it as fly fishing can be a blast.

Ditch the weight forward line and replace it with a good double taper line. Cortland 444 peach double taper is a ripper. I own a few in lower weights because i like the slightly slower action. Ive owned these rods for years. Cant speak for the reel though i use an old Loop evotec clear reel and its cool.

Water is low and clear and the fish are finicky, but you can still get into them. Tiny 20-26 midges with tiny tippets are the ticket right now. Good luck and let me know how you do.
I just bought the Redington Path II combo for $220 in the UK. Am happy with the rod and reel but as you say the line kinks terribly even after frequent use.
Yes have to upgrade to a quality line for sure.

Yes the Rio good is a great line in my opinion
