    All true words! I’ve bought their 3wt 7.5” spring creek and their 3wt 10.0 nymphing rod same color as yours cheap as heck, but the damn things cast great. I got over 12 Spey and fly rods and some were quite expensive. These little rods cast really good and super fun their 3 weight rods are NOT a wimpy noodle 🏆👍🏻💥

    From my experience with maxcatch is great with the customer service but when you buy directly to them on their website instead of Amazon/AliExpress. For example, I had a problem with a reel and they sent me a new one in an other order. Great video I haven't tested the premier one but others yes, and they're great for the price. I picked up a Maxcatch 5 wt combo earlier in 2020 and it is fantastic. In fact I caught many large trout with it. Because of that I recently purchased a 3 wt combo and my experience was quite different. The reel was junk right out of the box. It was unbalanced and the spool would drag across the frame in different spots as it rotated. Then the rod tip broke. I ended up fixing it myself and getting a new reel from someone else because all attempts at contacting and receiving a response from Maxcatch failed.

    • @intoflyfishing
      @intoflyfishing  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Steve. I've heard of this from the cheaper Maxcatch models. What 3 wt had you purchased? I had the Extreme before and while I didn't break it, the quality wasn't nearly as good as the Premier. But I didn't expect it for the price either. Even with the Extreme being less durable, the entire 3wt is only $39 so replacing the entire rod is cheaper than replacing most other rod tips (even with warranties as they have a "replacement fee"). If you're looking for a much better 3wt, consider checking out the Moonshine Vesper amzn.to/2LMoRsW . It's an incredible rod and it comes with an extra tip! We've done a full review of the 5wt and will try to get our hands on a 3 wt soon for a full review.

      @@intoflyfishing its listed as 3wt ultralight combo for $115 (Eco reel). I get that it isn't a Sage, but I didn't expect to have problems right out of the box. The rod is only an inch or so shorter now and now problems casting. I picked up a Picisfun Sword reel and it is wonderful. As much as I like my 5 wt combo I will probably look to other manufactures for any additional gear.

    • @intoflyfishing
      @intoflyfishing  3 роки тому +2

      @@SteveAlbano For sure! I didn't mean that it's not worth being frustrated about. We've also reviewed the Piscifun Sword and it's a great real for the price. If you ever do decide to go back to Maxcatch, I'd recommend the Premier for quality over the other items.

      Ya I was just talking about this kit today. I've cast A LOT of rods over the years. No the Premier isn't the best. Not by a long shot. But when you divide the cost to quality ratio... it's damn hard to beat. For those new to the sport, I can't think of a better kit.

      @@intoflyfishing exactly! And it can actually be better than some more known brands such as orvis, for example, i spend most my time just fiddling around in sea run creeks, i maybe catch 8 to 15" brook trout, this makes this rod perfect for me, does it cast the furthest? No, but, it gets the job done, and does a damn good job at it. My buddy bought his 7 wt for atlantic salmon, if it can handle those im sure it will last a good while with someone who takes care of their equipment!

    The combo's are unbeatable for value, no question. I wont go on about it again as I wrote a detailed comment in another video, but one thing I forgot to make note of was the fly line that's included in the Extreme combo seems to be a bit too light for the rod. I found the included line struggles to load the rod correctly - my personal experience is with a 4wt 8'6" Extreme combo that packages with the economic floating fly line (WF/F), this is not the Premier version like you have in this video. However, this is why I purchased my second and third rod, reels, and line separately and found a marked difference. For the line I chose the Avid line series and stepped it up in each case. So my 4wt rod/reel is wearing a 5/6 reel and 5wt line, and my 6wt rod/reel is wearing a 5/6 reel but a 7wt line. This recipe appears to be working extremely well for me. Have you experienced anything similar - having to step up a line wt to match a particular rod?

  • @acelilumelody4445
    @acelilumelody4445 10 місяців тому

    They do cheaper kits but i'm with you. The £75 kit vs the £140 is a massive increase in build quality and durability, i have a 4wt, 6wt and 8wt premier which i've had for some time and after weekly fishing for 2 seasons they didnt break. Since i had a shoulder injury and couldnt fly cast properly though i havent used them for about a year. Im just hoping they havent degraded because i've recently discovered the roll cast which should be a lot easier than normal casting for me.

I do have one question though: you said that the rod is a fast action rod, but the information on Amazon from the company says that it is a medium fast action. Fast action is a stiffer action, I think, and I feel it's important for me to get a medium fast action. Could you please clear this up for me? Thanks for your help!

    Nice review. I have the extreme combo and so far love it. NTFF but I think a high quality line will help all phases of casting. Have you tried a better line on the premier? I am looking at SA amplitude infinity smooth. I think a line like this will make your rod cast better at distance. It’s supposed to be a great all around line. I am going to try it on m rod. I know it costs almost as much as my combo.

    I have a trip to Panama booked for September and I was wanting to take a saltwater fly reel and rod to try and catch some jack crevalle or small tuna.
    I've seen there is a #12 version of the MaxCatch brand and also a reel to compliment the bigger game set up.
    Just wondering if you have any advice or feedback as this set up would be handling powerful fish. The reel would be more important that the rod I guess, as the drag would have to be up for the fight.

    • @intoflyfishing
      @intoflyfishing  Рік тому

      Great quesiton, I think it would be a great backup reel, or a backup to a backup, but I know from experience, if you're paying that much for a trip to go fishing, then it's worth having a better reel (particularly in saltwater) and at least one backup in every weight you bring. The MaxCatch will do you well for saltwater on a trip, rinse it when done using it. But I'd bring a better rod / reel if you've spent all that money on a fishing trip abroad.

    • @Pikeandslippers
      @Pikeandslippers Рік тому

      @@intoflyfishing Thanks for the response. I've run it past a guide I know after I wrote this, and whilst the #12 rod is up for the fight (handling large arapaima), the corresponding reel just doesn't have the necessary line capacity to stop a long run, so I think you are right. As a backup/spare to keep you running it's a good investment but for the main event a better reel is needed. Tight lines brother.

      If your going for true ocean run steel, id potentially go up to a 9wt. If your going for great lakes steelhead, a 6 or 7 weight is plenty
