Haha! I can totally understand that Alex! I think it’s more for the love of the videos than the 2 wheeled companion! 😂 Nothing hard hearted about avoiding this level of faffery though!
As soon as you mentioned the holes I thought "Sugru", but what a way to do it, nice to learn new ways to use it. I did use a small ball of it between my fairing and a metal bracket while waiting on new screws and washers to arrive, done a great job. Love those tiny LED indicators, doubt I could make use of them on my old bike though, would look a little weird with them just on the back of my ZX9r and the front chunky originals.
@@AndyManCam Yea there are, and I was looking at the others they have available too. I may change mine at a later date, but for now I put clear lenses on mine to modify it a little. I have a Puig undertray for the rear in the body colour and not sure I can use the originals with it, so may be forced to buy some soon.
Thank you for reminding me to never change the tail assembly and blinker system. The biggest point of failure on second hand bikes are electrical modifications. They’re never as good as factory no matter how good of a job you do. I would also say the signals are too close together and may not adequately differentiate left from right. (?) At any rate, you did an amazing job with the modification. 👍
To be fair, I've only ever had one electrical connection fail on a bike, and that was a factory connection on a 20 year old Yamaha. Hardware failures is another matter, but my connections have always held strong. And the ones on this modification will likely outlast the bike! Plus it would be very easy to revert everything back to stock in an afternoon. He who dares Rodders, he who dares!
I was impressed by the new tiny indicators and your home-made bracket.. and then even more so by your bungs. Particularly your patience in making them. Great work sir
Nice work. The bit with that putty to fill in the holes under the seat was really cool. I learned something from that. Thanks. The only thing I might have done would have been to repaint the license plate bracket/ holder. Other than that, really cool work. Love the electrical work too. That is my learned profession originally. The only thing I could criticize is the crimping of the contacts with the needle nose pliers. But, I also know the crimping pliers are really expensive. So, no worries there.
Cheers Scott. I’m totally with you on the crimping. I have some crimping pliers, but they didn’t work with these tiny connectors. I actually went back and soldered them too, to be sure.

Faffery for the win! Glad the tinkering had that effect mate. At times, it was having the opposite effect on my blood pressure! But very happy with the end result.
Superb job Andy. And an excellent demonstration of the attention to detail in design that makes Honda the highest purveyor of quality in biking. IMHO of course 😬
Thanks Ian. Sadly i can’t agree. Working on the bike has started to show me that Hondas reputation is worryingly unfounded. Lots of bad paint and dodgy welds all over the bike. Plus the level of parts bin speccing is a deeply lazy move from them. Worst of all, they’re not interested in honoring any Kind of warranty claim for the bad paint.
@@AndyManCam Sad news Andy… in the 6 years I had mine (2011 model) the only thing that irked me was the blooming on the exhaust headers. I really shopped around other manufacturers before buying, and found many horribly cheap parts on them, where Honda’s quality was immediately noticeably superior. I really hope your experience isn’t indicative of a change of ethos. Obviously I can’t comment on warranty issues as I never had any issues, so have no idea if that’s always been an issue. Sad news, otherwise.
I guess ultimately the hope is that the mechanics of the bike will be sound for a very long time to come. Sadly I think the execution of the whole package is very poor. I can see the silver of the wheels through the incredibly thin paint. I won't be buying new again.
Not a fan of the look but its not my bike so what does my opinion matter. Loved the foresight and ingenuity though. Thought that Sugaro solution was going to look awful, but turned out great.
Wow, quite some fumbling required to get these wires routed through half the motorcycle. Great job with the Sugru covers! And awesome video production, as always. Even though I neither have a Honda CB1000R, nor am I interested at all in modifying my motorcycle, I still like to watch your garage videos, because they're just so well-made :D
Thoroughly enjoyed this video Andy. Impressed with the technical aspects and really interesting to see your thought processes around the alterations. Well done. Ride safe.
Absolutely yes. I can’t promise the trackday, but I’ll definitely be doing a review on the tyres, once I’ve tried them in as many conditions as possible. Spoiler alert, so far they’re brilliant!
Got to say Andy , that was a good job on the back end of the Honda , I don’t understand bike manufacturers and why they make the back of some bikes so ugly , anyway good job , bikes looking great mate , looking forward to the next instalment . Cheers.
Thanks Adam! I understand that manufacturers have to meet certain legal requirements. But it baffles me how Honda made something SO ugly, that also doesn't work!!
I think more and more, manufacturers are just smashing products out, without ever really bothering to test them, or even think about how the consumers might use them. Shame really. You'd imagine thsat things would get better as we charge into the 'future'. Sadly everything seems to be getting worse. Quick manufacture, quicker sale, short useage life, rinse and repeat.
@@AndyManCam yes Andy I’ve worked in the automotive industry in Australia all my life and it’s a shame to say it has become a disposable industry , nothings really built to last anymore - it’s all about the profit these days , as you said it’s a sad situation .
@@adammills4343 That is sad mate. It’s a real shame. I think in the future I’ll concentrate on getting solidly made old bikes and then making them as good or better than the new ones! I’m a bit invested in this Honda now though. I hate that Honda have left this bad taste in my mouth as i otherwise utterly love the bike! It’s a masterpiece, that was sadly created by the intern, with the bits and bobs left over from a time when Honda was good!
Great video and good to see you back! Hope you are well, although if my wife caught me drilling on the kitchen table I'd be in big trouble... 😂 The bike looks great!
I'm impressed your getting good at this DIY shit just a couple of tips from an auto electrician don't solder with connectors facing downhill as solder can run into the connector and you can buy crimper to put them connectors on properly but all in all👍

Hey buddy ✌️😎 it’s been a while. Hope you are doing well and Joyful. Happy new year. I have a question pleez ! I want to remove the rear axle on my 2019 model, I removed all bolts, sprocket & center Large bolt with a 19mm hex bit but could not pull the axle out (feels very stiff to the pull) is there a way to do it smoothly other than may be hammer the center axle out (from the Sprocket side) ? Reason or is that I want that Axe shaped brake bracket removed so I can get it powder coated. Thank you much. I called some dealers here in the U.S and stunningly they had No idea how to remove it !!! 🙄
Thanks Chris. TBH it looks like the warranty isn’t worth a toss anyway. I’ve already attempted to have paint imperfections fixed and Honda aren’t interested. I expect to get pushback no matter what. I’ve also kept all the bits and could return to stock in an afternoon if I needed to. 👍🏻
Just subscribed Andy. Enjoyed that. I have just bought the cb1000r also. Today I will be doing a black widow full exhaust installation video. 🏴🔧⚙️
Thank you for posting. Looks like you did a great job. Couple of quickie questions. How much of the work you did in this video was improvised vs how much did you plan ahead? Anything caught you by surprise? Love the indicator lights. Going to see if I can find them and if they make them for my bike.
Cheers mate! My pleasure! The bones of the job was all preplanned. I had most of the parts and an idea of where it was all going to go. I had to improvise a bit with the wiring as I didn't know exactly where the number plate lights connected into the bike and the actual mounting of the tail tidy to the mudguard hanger was an 'organic' stage of the proceedings!
It really is awesome stuff! I buy mine from Amazon mate: amzn.to/3fKNJOD. I don't think paint would stick to it though. It's silicon, so the only thing that would stick, would be more silicon!
They’re Spirit ST‘s Andy. I think they’re absolutely brilliant. I’ve had every bit as much confidence in them as the Michelin Road 5‘s. I’d have them again in a heartbeat.
License plates belong up under the rear brake light with minimalist aftermarket turn signal lamps. It’s a beautiful single swing arm bike exposing all that wheel and rubber keeping with the naked theme. The stock license plate holder looks like a conveyor belt scraper and is good for an anchor, looks shit and clunky no matter how much ya frig with it.
Each to their own i guess. I personally think that the number plate up under the brake light looks rubbish and hides the rear end more. I also think that this setup has hugely reduced the chunkiness of the original setup. You don’t have to like it, but i do.
Thanks Andy! I would do that, But I have to have it registered in to the bikes paperwork and also take off the pillion seat in favour of a cowl. All very faffy and expensive. So I'll have to leave it as is for now.
@@AndyManCam wow you have to go through all that? oh well maybe not worth it so much if you have to out them back on for any tours you do. maybe powdercoat them so they don't stick out as much? loving your channel andy 👍🏻
Yeah it's a bit of a faff. But it's also sadly a bit confusing and unknown. One TÜV inspector will say that it doesn't matter. Another will say that the pegs and the seat have to be removed and a third will say something in between! I would just chance it, but if the insurance is suddenly invalidated, then I'm potentially in big trouble!! The hangers themselves are already gunmetal grey, so they don'T stick out too much. I could swap the pegs for something smaller and black. We'll see.
@@AndyManCam i've seen a black cb1000r going around my area with the cowl and it looks stunning. but yeah the last thing you want to do is invalidate your insurance
Good work on improving the number plate ‘dangle-berry’ and great solution with the Sugru 👍🏻 Not sure about the indicators, would be interested to see it with the stock indicators with just number plate mount vs the Kellerman install. but it’s your bike and your choice, though they are bloody bright for the size. Are you planning on swapping out the front indicators as well?
Thanks Tam. Yeah I'm sure it would already look better with this mod and the stock flashers. But I thought that as I was in for a penny, may as well go for the pound! I also wanted to make mine look a bit different to all the others!
Thanks Dave. It’s from a German company called Stein Dinse. It works, but the spindle is very slim so it’s a bit delicate. No sitting on the bike while it’s on the stand! Could be different for the Z900 though.
Coming soon to an episode of AndyManCam's Garage: See Andy make a custom-fitted seat for his Honda with 7 liters of Sugru and a cling-film covered bum.
Hahaha! Brilliant Idea! But I don'T think I fancy having a cling film covered arse for a weekend! :D Maybe I'll have to make a plaster cast of my derriere!
Great stuff. Brilliant editing. But why do manufacturers insist in prioritising form over function? It is clear that a lot of thought went into the design of the tail end apart from one thing: no one seems to have checked whether it actually keeps any road crud off the rider, shock etc. Perhaps they assume that no one would use their expensive machines in other than perfect weather or that owners like spending money on aftermarket parts and enjoy the delight of playing hunt the the screw (oh er missus) on the garage floor.
I think that’s sadly true. Smash it together and throw it out to the masses without testing. They’re definitely assuming these bikes won’t see bad weather too as all the paint is coming off mine already. I’m very unhappy about it.
Excellent job Sir. I cannot believe how small those indicators are, do you get away with such modifications in Deutschland? I would have thought the authorities/ Police would look down on such mods? Great post thank you. 👍🏻
Cheers Digger. They are completely E-marked, TÜV approved and EU wide road legal. No worries there whatsoever! As long as it's got the right markings and they're fitted correctly (at least 180mm apart and more than 350mm from the road) then all is good in the eyes of the law!
That looks f##kn awesome buddy and all that work paid off.. cant believe how streamlined the backend looks. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ .. I've just taken tail tidy off and gone back to standard.. now I'm thinking I should AMC it. This machine is evolving my friend 👍
Thanks mate. I’m really happy with it. I thought it would be a shame to lose the low mounted plate, so it seemed obvious to smash the indicators down there at the same time. Good luck with your custom job!

Slick and resourceful as ever Andy👍
Cheers Mike!
Well done Andy , the bungs were well thought out and fitted , looks good buddy ,,, Shane uk 🇬🇧
Thanks very much Shane. It was an adventure, but very happy with the result!
Ok.. these rubber bungs looks absolute OEM. Great job!
Cheers HR. They were a bit of an adventure, so glad it worked out as hoped.
Not a fan of the look but its not my bike so what does my opinion matter. Loved the foresight and ingenuity though. Thought that Sugaro solution was going to look awful, but turned out great.
Thanks Matthew. Sugru is impressive stuff when you put the time in!
I'm sure others have said it before and will say it again, but you have a nice looking rear end there Andy.
Oh, you! Too kind Michael. Oh wait, you mean the bike....
Looks great but, I would worry about those teeny tiny lights getting road crud on them and being less effective...
Little smaller then my fingertip ! That is what ..........! Anyone? 🤣
Nice work work Andy well done !! 🍻
Haha! Thanks IS! Too many innuendos in this one!! 🤣
That Sugru solution is brilliant! What's next, custom earplugs? :D
Haha! I don’t think i fancy 2 days of cling film and Sugru in my ears! Great idea though!
well done Sir, the back looks much better now, maybe a tinted rear light would make it look even better. 👍♥️
Thanks SC. That might not be such a bad idea.
Love the little sound effects!
I'm so glad somebody noticed them! Mrs Mancam said they were a bit too Sesame Street for her tastes! :D
Absolutely fabulous job Andy 💥
Many thanks indeed Anthony.
Thanks mate! Honored to have kept you captivated! It was quite a job, but thankfully very worth it!
Sugru genius, cracking job well done 👍
Thanks BB. Always happy to find another use for Sugru!
Well done Andy looks good mate safe riding 👍
Thanks Chris. You too mate.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video Andy. Impressed with the technical aspects and really interesting to see your thought processes around the alterations. Well done. Ride safe.
Cheers BR! It was a real adventure on all sides of the camera!
Looks great! And those Sugru bungs are a stroke of genius!
Cheers Smokey! The things you come up with when you’re just desperate to justify your sugru addiction! 😆
@@AndyManCam 😆
Tyre review or test? Well after a trackday of course.
Absolutely yes. I can’t promise the trackday, but I’ll definitely be doing a review on the tyres, once I’ve tried them in as many conditions as possible. Spoiler alert, so far they’re brilliant!
Very nicely done 👍👍🎉🎉
Many thanks Joe. I’m very pleased with it! 😊
Andy!! Avon tires!?
What did I miss? I go away for awhile and u go to the dark side away from the Michelin road 5s! 🤔
@@AndyManCam yep couldn’t agree more Andy.
Excellent mod, very nicely done...
Many thanks!
Those Euro number plates are ridiculously huge.
They're still WAY smaller than the ones in the UK! And not yellow either!!
I love this bike.... thanks for another great video.
My pleasure Jeff. Cheers for watching.
@@AndyManCam I just bought all the bike I could afford -- the CB500f -- and love it. But I do have to say that your bike is fucking amazing.
It is a fine machine! I thought about trading it in until i did a few test rides and realised it was the most fun to ride!
Great video and good to see you back! Hope you are well, although if my wife caught me drilling on the kitchen table I'd be in big trouble... 😂 The bike looks great!
Thanks Scott! Luckily i keep an old tabletop that i stick over the real table! The missus wouldn’t allow such shenanigans otherwise!
I'm impressed your getting good at this DIY shit just a couple of tips from an auto electrician don't solder with connectors facing downhill as solder can run into the connector and you can buy crimper to put them connectors on properly but all in all👍
Thanks Terry. Good tip, thanks. I did have to file and shape a couple of the connectors to make them fit. No substitute for pro experience!
Brilliant work fella 👏 love the attention to detail, a man after my own Hart, keep it 👍
Thank you very much Andy. If cleanliness is next to godliness, then tidy cabling is next to omnipotence! All those years as a lighting tech have paid off!! 😆
Hopefully you’ve figured it out by now. Sorry for the delay, but sadly i have no suggestions and the bike is long since gone!
Great video; and even better engineering skills
Many thanks mate. Multiple levels of faffery in this one! 😁
Nice job Andy; you’re braver than me! Aren’t you worried about ever needing to invoke the warranty and getting push back?
Thanks Chris. TBH it looks like the warranty isn’t worth a toss anyway. I’ve already attempted to have paint imperfections fixed and Honda aren’t interested. I expect to get pushback no matter what. I’ve also kept all the bits and could return to stock in an afternoon if I needed to. 👍🏻
@@AndyManCam Oh that’s not good! Better off making it yours and enjoying it. Vids have really jumped up in quality as well 👍🏻
Absolutely mate. I don’t think I’ll ever be buying new again. Many thanks!
I thought the Number plate was the rear mud guard?
No, the rear mudguard was the rear mudguard. The number plate was mounted to the rear mudguard. 😜
Just did mine with the sugru
Nice! It's magical stuff!
Just subscribed Andy. Enjoyed that. I have just bought the cb1000r also. Today I will be doing a black widow full exhaust installation video. 🏴🔧⚙️
Yep, a big improvement. Good job and a really slick edit 😉
Thanks Andrew. It certainly looks tidier now.
Smashing job - well done.
Many thanks Mark!
OCD heaven 👌
though am curious as to what the Zulassungsstelle or the man at HU has to say regarding those microscopic indicators 🙈
I’m glad you think so! I was happy! They’re all E-marked and TÜV friendly! With Kellerman being a German company, they ought to be!
@@AndyManCam those “weird bondo” custom plugs are awesome mate! I’ve never heard of that stuff, where do i buy that? Would paint stick to it?
It really is awesome stuff! I buy mine from Amazon mate: amzn.to/3fKNJOD. I don't think paint would stick to it though. It's silicon, so the only thing that would stick, would be more silicon!
Looking good 😎👍
Thanks very much Garth.
noticed the avon tyres, are they storm 3d ?,if yes what do you think of them
They’re Spirit ST‘s Andy.
Love the little indicators, too cool
Cheers Ashley. Me too! I Love how they practically disappear when they're not on!
Wow, those indicators are quite tiny mate. Great job filling that hole 👍
I know right! Hard to believe they’re legal!
great job! looks amazing! get rid of those pillion pegs next 👍🏻
Good work on improving the number plate ‘dangle-berry’ and great solution with the Sugru 👍🏻
Not sure about the indicators, would be interested to see it with the stock indicators with just number plate mount vs the Kellerman install. but it’s your bike and your choice, though they are bloody bright for the size. Are you planning on swapping out the front indicators as well?
Thanks Tam. Yeah I'm sure it would already look better with this mod and the stock flashers. But I thought that as I was in for a penny, may as well go for the pound! I also wanted to make mine look a bit different to all the others!
@@AndyManCam are you going to change the front indicators to match the rears ?
Great stuff.. What u using to stand the bike up there? Looks like something I'd use for my z900.Tks
Thanks Dave. It’s from a German company called Stein Dinse. It works, but the spindle is very slim so it’s a bit delicate. No sitting on the bike while it’s on the stand! Could be different for the Z900 though.
Massive job! Well executed and a great video as usual!
OMG! The sugru job îs brilliant!
Cheers! The sugru was a wild success! I was actually pretty surprised myself that it worked so well!
Great job Andy..!!! Looks so awesome !!!
I like your video's Andy, been a subscriber since the fz1n so I bought one, little sad you got rid of it. I have the impression that the cb1000r is more complicated to work on than the fz1n, or have I got it wrong?
Ether way I'm a big fan of content, keep up the good work 👍
Thanks Davy. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. The single sided swingarm certainly makes some jobs a lot easier. More room for electric under the seat too.
