At 4:00 he hits the absolute nail on the head in relationship to my experience. In 1989 My dad brought me to my first National (Chicago). He had found his childhood collection in my grandmas attic a couple years prior to that.
By 1989, I myself was 11 & was a few years introduced already to the wonderful hobby, the father-son bonding experience is one I’ll hold forever.
That was definitely the catalyst for me. in 1989, the Cubs were on fire! We also had a couple rookies Jerome Walton, and Dwight Smith that were really popular at the time. Walton broke the rookie consecutive game hitting streak. Canseco & McGuire cards were also huge!

Hey Geoff. MY Name is Richard. I. New BoB very well when I lived in Atlanta. I Lived in Marrietta.Met BoB at. BoB Cunningham s. shop in 1986 .. Helped BOB set up his shows met alot of HOF players. When I moved back to ILLINOIS. I went to the 1995 national and BOB And Mike Stoner . BOB gave me a 11x14 Framed Greg Maddux with all 4 years in a row 1with. The Cubs. I could go on and on about BoB . He is a very good gentleman to do business with. Oh he also Gave me the Braves hat that they presented to Deion Sanders at the press conference when Deion joined the Braves. I Got a letter confirming Deion Sanders. Signed..by a notary public and stamped plus BOB's. Sports collectables COA. Well for now Y'all have a good night and Peace Out.

For me, the hobby now has price transparency. That's what got me back into it.
Still a bit subjective but I can get a price anytime anywhere.

in all honesty, geoff, i agree with you on soccer but the way i see it, the tcg (trading card games) market right now is being overlooked. there's the usual, pokemon, mtg. but lorcana, weiss schwarz and one piece cards are getting traction with the youngsters. anyone of those 3 can actually be the next pokemon or mtg.
Agreed. The Pokemon/TCG market is growing at a much faster rate than any sport, especially soccer. The young fanbase is huge and in the coming years, they will opt to spend their disposable money on TCG and not sports cards.

My advice, the 80 years of prosperity in the US is coming to an end. People will have a hard time putting food on the table and a depression is on the horizon. Stocks down, inflation, weak dollar, wars, horrible leadership, mass layoffs imminent... Save your money. Makes sure you take care of your family first. Wait until the furnaces firing up and the costs are double. Cards are not investments. They are not currency. They are not liquid.
