  • Today we're going to do a deep dive on the seat options for the C8 Z06, including what the 3 options are, the pros and cons are of each, factors to consider, and ultimately my take on which ones to choose.
This video marks the long awaited start of my deep dives into the options and specs of the C8 Z06, to help digest all the info and give everyone things to consider when speccing the options for their own cars.
EDIT - The GT1 seats can be heated and cooled, but you must have the 2LT or higher package. 1LT will not give you heating or cooling.
At the end of this series I will be sharing the spec of what I am currently thinking to buy, and my reasoning behind it.
Today, we're going to talk all about the seats. Let's get right into it!

Quick update: The GT2 seat is *NOT* the default seat for the 2LZ trim, only for 3LZ. The GT1 appears to be default for 1LZ and 2LZ trim levels. Apologies for the mis-statement. Good catch Mark!

I also really like the series you're putting together about comparing and contrasting the many options the Z06 will offer. Fred this episode was spot on for a lot of folks. I do have a “con” however for the GT2 seats that you’ve missed. Is perfectly illustrated in your photos. Light colored inserts on the GT2’s out of the box look dirty. This phenomenon seems to be a direct result of the perforations pattern. When my friend and I saw and sat in the pre-production C8 Stingray the GM technician conducting the Dealers Tour apologized for the dirty look of the seats. His explanation was that thousands of folks have sat in them as the Stingray circulated through large numbers of dealers hosting the tours. Not so, again from your photo, and certainly in real life the GT2’s appear to have heavy wear/soil in the center most areas of both the cushion and seat backs. Another feature available that you failed to mention, is the option of sueded micro fiber inserts, available on all three of the seats. GT1 and GT3 (Competition Sport Seats) have differences in the perforation patterns that don’t create this appearance. I’m opting for GT3 seats on my C8 Z07 as I found my Comp seats in my C7 Z07 to be very comfortable even for the 3K mile trip home to Northern California from the NCM. I am smaller in stature than you and that, I believe is a major contributor to that comfort. I’m an Autocross, HPDE, and aggressive driver, so the extra bolstering is not only comfortable for me but I enjoy all the “control” benefits you described. I also opt for the sueded micro fiber inserts that provides additional “anti-slip/slide”, as well as all the Alcantera (sueded micro fiber) benefits of cooler after sitting in the sun, and a less cold feel in the winter. The Alcantera inserts do, however, seem to mitigate (not remove) the dirty seat look on the GT2’s. When black inserts are specified, the dirty look disappears. Definitely a consideration that buyers should be aware of. Thanks again for a great vlog.👍

    • @FredsFullThrottle
      @FredsFullThrottle  2 роки тому +1

Those are both really great points Ronald, thanks for reaching out, and mentioning them.
I too have thought the same regarding the "dirty" look to the venting on lighter colored finishes. As you mentioned I haven't noticed it on the black seats as well.
You are spot on with the suede inserts as well, I didn't delve into that, instead mentioning the "additional fabric and finishes" for the higher trim seats. I try to be as thorough as I can, but clearly missed on that. I wish I had an option to tweak/update videos, but there isn't one. Maybe on my upcoming deep dives I'll find a way to work those points in, thanks for giving me something to think about!
I think you're right about the smaller stature and fitting better in the comp seats, that completely makes sense. Personally I hope I can get some seat time in the comp seats in a Stingray in advance of placing my order, to see just how comfortable (or not) I am. I prefer a "snug" seat, though that might be outweighed by my wife wanting comfort.
      Thanks again!

    Fred,
Great idea in breaking down your videos into Z06 segments/options! I feel it will really help people to make a decision when choosing some options or features so it will be exciting to see how these upcoming videos go!
I have a more practical take on my feature and option choices. The 2LZ package is for me. The right amount of features to make it a comfortable driver for long road trips. I also plan to hit occasional track days too once or twice a year.
I did have a question relating to the options/features and tracking the car. I am really considering the HTC because of my road tripping desire and the physical loss of storage space once the hard top is put into the trunk. Question: Will the HTC have an issue with track time because it's a convertible?
I appreciate your thoughts on this or please factor this question into the Coupe vs HTC segment!

    Fred,
If I was going to be primarily track focused I would go with the competition seats. In reality, although I will track the car a few times a year, there will be many more miles put on running in the mountains, so comfort is more important. For the track I will install a racing harness. I wish GM would have an option to install anchor brackets for a harness.
Suggestion: Once GM starts Z06 production you should post a video wherein we track our progress in the order queue. I know you saw a comment in one of your videos from someone buying through Ciocca wanting to track that as well. Each week when MacMulkin & Ciocca updates the order queue we could post the change in our respective status.

      Hi Sully,
Agreed, it does seem like anchor points either built in, or at least as a factory accessory would be a popular option. I'm curious in the HTC where they could/would mount, I know the Coupe they can be mounted aftermarket, but haven't done much looking on the HTC.
Thanks for the suggestion as well! Once orders start going in, I'll definitely be tracking the order queues, and try to report on the allocations between Ciocca and MacMulkin. I think there's a lot of interest in how that plays out, so definitely something worth covering.

Good idea analyzing the option choices. I like the looks of the GT2 seats and the little extra freedom to relax. I would not be racing my car. Having carbon fiber is important to me for looks so it is good that these seats have that trim. I also am a bit hesitant about the black trim on the Competition seats. It may not fit well unless you had the black of the Carbon Fiber 2 option interior pieces. If someone is going an all black interior, this is obviously not a factor.

Another great vlog Fred. I see you've met my partner in crime "Ronald Christensen" below. Ditto on his points regarding the perforations causing the lighter colors to appear dirty all the time with the GT2 seats. Both Ron and I are planning on ordering the "natural dipped" interiors with the 3LZ option, but the appearance of looking dirty all the time, even with the sueded seat insert and back option has created a great deal of conflict in choosing between the GT2's and the Competition seats... Personally, I feel so strongly about the contant dirty appearance from the perforation pattern, I'm almost willing to tolerate less comfort on long trips than deal with the seats always appearing dirty. I guess it's just a matter of aesthetics versus function.... Decisions decisions.....

    • @FredsFullThrottle
      @FredsFullThrottle  2 роки тому

      Hi Tom,
Yeah, one of the areas I didn't get into is the aesthetics of the various seats, and Ronald's good points about the "looking dirty" because of the ventilation. It certainly looks very different depending on the color of the seats, and I can understand wanting to prevent that if at all possible, especially on a lighter colored material.
      Good luck on those choices!

The dirt you see on the natural dip and sky cool grey is from dyes from clothes. I have the scg seats and don't wear blue jeans when I drive my car. They are GT1 and the only area I'm lacking is heated seats. I will take the top off all the way down to 40 degrees. Electric jackets and crank up the heat and it's good. Heated seats would make it even more comfortable. As far as racing, remember you put the seat all the way back, get in, put your seatbelt on. Get it to lock. Then move the seat forward until it's comfortably snug. Then hit the pedal.. I use a Mcquiers leather clean/condition wipe about once a week to minimize color transfer and cracking of the leather on the bolsters. So far so good. I am looking at the aftermarket for heated seats. About $400 per side installed.

Hi Fred, came back to again review your analysis of the seat options to compare to the opinion of another UA-camr who has just run a video with his ideas. He is a big guy and seems quite fond of the Comp seats. I worry a bit about the high bottom bolster and what difficulty there might be for ingress and potential wear after many uses that might "damage" those bolsters. So far my only experience was a short test of Comp seats by sitting in an EX car at a dealership months ago but with so much to take in in, I didn't do much of an analysis. Would like to have had a GT2 equipped car to compare to. I also note the "dirty" look of the perforations on a GT2 leather seating surface. However, I will likely not go for the dipped choice due to the reflection off the windshield. I'm wondering how the Comp seat really avoids the "dirty" look unless that seating surface is not leather. I was thinking of avoiding the alcantera type seating surface as I think that then extends to the steering wheel and I'm not sure that wears well with moisture and dirt transfer from hands.

Great video Fred. As always. It's amazing that I was about to search for the difference between the 3 Seats and your video was on my home screen b4 the search. I have one question though. I'm a big guy like 265. You think I'll be comfortable in a GT2 seat? I wanted to get that one but if it'll be too tight I'll go with the GT1 on my 2LZ. I'm number 445 at Ciocca. You think they'll get that many allocations the 1st year. I'm hoping 😂

    • @FredsFullThrottle
      @FredsFullThrottle  2 роки тому +1

Hi Kevin, nice to hear from you again! I must have picked up on your thoughts to inspire me for the video! :)
To answer your question, I could find nothing in my searching that talked about the bolsters/comfort on the GT1 vs the GT2 being different. I looked at pictures of the 2 seats from the Z06 and Stingray displays side by side, and visually the only big differences I could see were the cut of the leather in the backrest and the connected headrest in the GT1. To elaborate, based on everything I found, I don't think the GT2 is narrower or tighter than the GT1. I see the GT2 as the up-spec version of the GT1. Same overall frame/shape, but including the floating head rest, ventilation, and lumbar. I didn't find any documentation that said otherwise, though there's a chance I missed something.
I would highly recommend sitting in both at a dealership (even if just in a Stingray) to help inform your decision. Hypothetically if you had to choose without being able to sit in one, I'd go GT2. The ventilation alone is worth it on a hot day (us bigger gentlemen tend to run warm, am I right?), and all other things being equal I feel like that sways towards the GT2. The lumbar support also probably can help on a long drive (I don't use mine often, but once in a while I do).
I think the GT2 is probably your best bet, but if you have the opportunity, definitely see if you can sit in one.
Hope this helps Kevin. Thanks for reaching out, nice to hear from you again! Have a nice weekend!

Although I took possession of my 2022 C8 HTC on 3/4/2022 the only seat time I have had, has been in my garage.
I’m not the biggest guy: 5’ 7” and 170, but the GT2 Seats feel pretty tight.
There’s no way I would go for the tight Competition Seats! At 67, I’m not going to be tracking ZO6 in all likelihood. So, I’m more interested in comfort.
Therefore, it’s going to be the GT2 Seats if I get an opportunity to Spec a ZO6 in the future. It may take 3-4 years minimum to get close to getting an allocation, and a lot could change in options and offerings. Perhaps even a C9?

      Hi Justin,
Thanks for reaching out, nice to hear from you!
To your point, there isn't much (if any) difference between what's offered in the Z06 and the Stingray, based on all the information that's been announced by GM. I indicated as much near the end of the video (with the suggestions about how to try each seat out in person before you decide). That said, GM could always sneak something in that we're not aware of, but at a minimum the seats at the dealer tour looked 1:1 to my eye. If you're a current Stingray owner, then this video may be of limited use to you. However many of the upcoming videos are for options the Z06 has exclusively, so there won't be much or any overlap.
That said, the reason for this video (and several deep dives following), is there's been really strong interest from my viewers on me doing "deep dives" on each aspect of the options/configuration for the Z06, since many of us (myself included) are wading through the options to figure out how we want to spec our orders when our reservations get called. Each video will take one aspect of the car, and dive as deep as I'm able to (with whatever amount of information that GM has provided to that point) and do an overview of the option, talk through the choices, share the pros/cons of each, and ultimately I'll also share what my choice is on that item. Many of us (myself included again) haven't spent much or any time in a C8, so I'm treating it like a clean slate sharing my thoughts and observations as I have them.
Hope that helps clarify. Have a nice weekend!

      Hi Sterling!
As far as I've been able to find, the GT1 and GT2's have the same overall dimensions. I'm not aware of any sizing differences or comfort differences between them, other than the additional features on the GT2. Everything being equal, I think the GT2 is essentially just a "nicer" GT1. My best advice versus the height stuff, would be to talk with a dealership, and see if a salesperson can walk you through any differences, and hopefully let you sit in one of each (in a car). The key thing I'd look for is to see how low the seat can be adjusted (if at all). Also, I've heard (though haven't confirmed) that the roof in the HTC is internally a bit higher than the coupe, so that might buy you a half inch to an inch (or something like that). Every little bit will help it sounds like.
      Good luck!

      Hi Josh,
I'm fairly certain that's correct. I saw your comment and went on the C8 Configurator on the website, and with the base model car, I don't see an option to spec heat/cooling for the 1LT with GT1 seats.
*UPDATE* - So it looks like they wrapped the heating and cooling into the 2LT package. You can apparently have the GT1 seats with ventilation, but have to spec up your trim package to do so. With the 1LT, it appears you cannot get ventilation for the seats. I did a fair bit of looking, and didn't realize this was the case. So seat options vary with the trim package, I didn't realize they weren't fully independent (other than fabric/colors). I'll mention this in my upcoming trim package deep dive. Sorry for the confusion!

      Hi Don,
I saw that as well, however a few things to consider.
The sheet that was leaked is not confirmed by GM to be complete, it may be missing options or information. Not saying it is, but it could be.
Also, the visualizer shows the seat options, and even tells you it's changing the seat back to GT1 when you move from 3LZ to 1LZ:
"Selecting 1LZ will change the following:
      REMOVE
      TRIM LEVELS - 3LZ
      SEAT TYPE - GT2
      COLORS - Adrenaline Red
      ADD
      TRIM LEVELS - 1LZ
      SEAT TYPE - GT1
      COLORS - Jet Black"
The visualizer could be wrong, but I would caution not to put too much stock in a leaked set of screenshots, especially early on, as not all options may have been added to the system yet as they populate the backend for the upcoming order process. Time will tell, and soon enough we'll know for sure.
Thanks for reaching out, and have a nice day!
      -Fred
