- Important warning: Since this video piercing has been slightly changed, piercing spells now effect the player. This is mostly a substantial negative but can be worked around by using piercing on things that would do minimal player damage. I highly recommend pairing piercing with light shot on triggers. This is meant to be a quick guide for people looking into the possibilities of the newly updated piercing spell It is incredibly potent and I hope you find some of these base builds helpful. I'm sorry, I tried it out for a good 5 minutes and realized how incredible impractical it was, it is definitely possible if you apply it after a trigger but you gotta keep in mind even if you get a failed shot it doesn't work, I used the equivalent of every spell refresher in the game, all that said maybe I'll just throw a clip of that on my discord if you're interested. :]

Made a whole video for a spell I've seen like 3x in the hundreds of hrs I've sunk into Noita. That's dedication!

Yeah for sure, I find it has saved or extended quite a few of my runs, it's great for doing long exploration runs where all the hearts get used up.

Something not noted in the video (and this may have been a change since the video was created) is that adding Piercing to a projectile makes it so it can harm the player. So combining with Reduce Lifetime becomes quite dangerous since if you accidentally come in contact with the projectile... instant death. So while adding Piercing to a projectile adds massive amounts of damage, it also makes the projectile extremely dangerous to the caster.
That was changed since this video came out (that change occured about three months before this comment, if I recall...) but is very important to mention. I'm sure it was done exclusively because of the "familiar" wand builds trivialising the game with even the weakest spells.
A great replacement if you're going for strongest available is a Freezing Charge modifier on a Tentacle (with trigger/timer is optional but unnecessary). Freezing an enemy and then dealing "melee" type damage as a tentacle does will instantly kill all enemies that are not immune to Freezing status. If the tentacle has a trigger, adding some form of homing damage aura mist will kill the freezing immune enemies (since most have a low base Max HP).

Yeah, that is a more recent change since this video, note that light shot is extremely valuable for making piercing safe and I use it in tandem with triggers on the regular to even stronger effect in a lot of cases.

Hey, youtube didn't give me a notification on your message for some odd reason so sorry I'm late on the response. I have been trying out script writing and it's very challenging. Their are 2 reasons I made this video the way I did, firstly I knew all the information and thought this rant style would be efficient to produce a series, secondly and more importantly to me : I personally have a lot more respect for a teacher or professor who has all the information in their head rather than reading off of a document. It's like they really know what they are talking about, I wanted to sort of capture that feeling with this rant style. If you have any advice for potentially melding the formats I would love advice!

Why does reduce lifetime make a projectile last forever? Isn't that the opposite of what it's supposed to do?
Because before life time reduction spells -1 was used as a cheat by the developers to make spells such as deer and dormant crystal last forever. So when they added reduce life time we eventually managed to figure out that certain lifetime ranges could reach -1 since reduce lifetime is a static reduction while most spells have a variable lifetime. It made it a lot easier to find.

Forgot to mention "and this is what happens when you hit a Master of Exchange"
He actually wasn't in the game at the time of that video, you can make hitting master of exchange safe by dealing 0 damage with a trigger that you pierce. If swapper dies in one hit you won't be swapped.
@@AliasGaming0 Not sure I understand the mechanics here. You deal the 0 damage and get swapped immediately i imagine. Then you get insta killed by your own projectiles, dont you?

During my run, I managed to build a pretty overpowered wand halfway through the main descent: gravity well and square barrier on a trigger firebolt; it obliterates basically anything that has the barrier collapse on it.
Now, where did I leave that piercing shot modifier...
Does light shot work with healing bolt to make it heal better?
No, light shot is -projectile damage and healing bolt deals healing damage, so it doesn't increase the effects. You can use multipliers such as berserkium, glass cannon or living on the edge to improve the power of a healing bolt however.

i have just one question. How the hel lyou got a wand with 300 mana charging. Max i got before last boss was 180 :
Exploring jungle and below thoroughly is very important, the wands I used in this video are just random tier 5 wands I spawned in.
I am new to noita is there a way to get wand editing easier like how you have spells and such at what looks like the beginning?
Yeah, if you want to just goof around and learn spells more quickly a good tool is called cheatgui. Note that you can travel anywhere in the world with the right gear and often times I end up back tracking. Also welcome to noita! edit: just realized you may need a little instruction when you load up noita there is a mods folder, if you go into workshop it brings you straight into steam workshop, it's easy from there!

@@cheezandtoast Of course, I'm happy to help. Note that piercing does work slightly different now and it's rather dangerous to the player, it deals self damage. That said it is still excellent and fairly safe when used on a trigger.
Imagine piercing infinite healing shot though. Your own personal medic.
Hey, that's one of the best ones, 2 reduce life times and a ping pong path on heal projectile makes it infinite and it is probably the best infinite to date, you can even survive swimming in lava! Just don't put any damage on it you will be in for a rough time.
Where did you get that cheat gui?
You can get cheatgui from going into your mod option while the game is open. There are 2 different versions, one for steam and one for the other workshop, You can reach either one by launching the game with or without steam. There are some minor differences but I used the steam version in this video.

I got confused - would you kindly tell why a "fog" spell is useful here?
The one with the slimy fog here, for example
Death fog or mist spells are useful because they have a long duration with no inherent movement speed.Damage modifiers are exceptionally deadly on them because of how well they pair with homing and trigger wands. An example of a basic death fog wand would be as follows: spark bolt with trigger - homing - electrical arc - heavy shot - damage field - double spell - 2x mist of choice

Thank you very muvh for your explanation - and i remembered, i had used mist spells in combination with water trail... That creates a ungodly amount of liquid!

@@AliasGaming0 Just wanted to stop by and add a small correction (even if very late... sorry) that damage + modifications do not affect the strength of damage aura itself. Just a projectile's innate damage! Damage aura, regardless, will always deal 4 damage per gametick and Heavy Shot will only add mana cost to the wand (since they have 0 innate speed, I'm not sure that Mist Spells are slowed) without granting bonus damage.
Amazon from d2 had a similar thing. Piercing + homing. :)
Have you ever made an infinite healing buddy wand?
No I haven't, I haven't found a set of reduce and increase durations that can keep it infinite so the only solution would be to tie them to a trigger that deals damage, then you could just run at the enemy with the trigger and when it procs you could have a piercing boomerang heal fly out at you. You would have to put enough damage on the trigger that it kills through the heal though. I think it would just be a little finicky but I will go back into the code and see if there are any numbers that line up!
I have a hundred some runs and three wins under my belt. Across all these runs, I've seen homing no more than five times. Did this spell become less common in 1.0?
It's definitely less common as of 1.0 for sure, that said short range homing is now in the game and much better as it's more precise and allows you to kill only the enemies you can see, which is better because accidentally killing this like healers or swappers is unfortunate and extremely dangerous respectively. (also short range homing is much less likely to home on you if you get polymorphed.

What mods are you using in this video?
An old version of cheagui and goki's things. Goki's things was for access to dummies as they are far more functional than the vanilla ones and cheatgui for quick demonstration.
32 Crystal run vs infinite spells with piercing homing nuke activation spell + glass canon and explosion immunity. Dude, i need you to test it.
Due to the addition to piercing (which adds self damage to spells) since this video came out would make the familiar wand type kill the player instantly, but the Nuke spell is viable to lag your game to death if your PC isn't quite powerful. Also, don't forget fire immunity! From my own testing using a wand as shown below, it dealt about 76,000 DPS
Spark Bolt w/ Double Trigger | Homing-Piercing-Bubble Spark with Trigger | Nuke | Homing-Piercing-Bubble Spark with Trigger | Nuke
Since this makes two projectiles that spam nukes it is *incredibly* laggy, so I wouldn't recommend it for actual play, but it's quite a spectacle to see all the particle effects cover everything in line of sight. Hope this helped give an idea!

These days piercing is a little weaker of an option due to the self damage but when used with a trigger it's incredible. Also piercing can be made free if you use it with add trigger. That said with add trigger in the game you can make other spells with inherent piercing properties instead of piercing itself. I would say it's a very strong spell that holds an important niche but can at least be made up for with the right stuff.
