It’s hard to underestimate the importance of these two songs to Rush. Along with Working Man & The Spirit of The Radio, Closer To The Heart and Tom Sawyer IS the radio catalog of Rush to many millions of people around the world. As big fans, we have other favorites and love the big epics like 2112, Hemispheres, Natural Science, La Villa, etc., but to most casual rock fans those four songs is Rush. I think Closer to the Heart probably has had more total radio plays than even TSOR and TS from 1977 to maybe 2000 or so before those two eclipsed it. It was a classic rock radio mainstay for many years and is still their biggest song in some parts of the world.
Helene here...by looking at your past reactions, I can see that you are paying attention to what are considered the giants of classic rock...namely Floyd, Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath...and rightly so. And I also see that you love classic prog rock.....Yes and Rush definitely. Might I suggest two bands to you if you are not already familiar with them: prog rock giant Genesis and prog METAL giant Tool. Also, if you like jazz/rock fusion, then visiting Steely Dan is a must.
No one ever notices the drum pattern in the beginning after the riff. Dah dah dah dah, 1-2 Dah dah dah dah, 1-2-3 Dah dah dah dah, 1-2-3-4 Dah dah dah dah, 1-2-3-4-5
Love your reactions... you need to check out more live!! YYZed and One Little Victory in Rio, Xanadu Exit Stage Left, Working Man Cleveland, any of these ,(or more) will do!! Be Well and God Bless... from Texas!!
😊 Memories of the crowds emotions during this song all depending on 🥁 the Professor and his downbeats. 😍 We just roared at every drum roll. Some songs were all about Alex 🎸 riffs but those chimes b4 the beat comes in just can't be .... well 🤷🏿♀️ beat! 🍿🐰 #ENRGYZRBunny
RUSH HAD SEVERAL MUSIC VIDEO STUDIO RECORDINGS HUNTER! :) 1 OF THEM WAS TOM SAWYER, THEN THERE'S OTHERS TOO. SUBDIVISIONS, LIMELIGHT, FLY BY NIGHT, ANTHEM ( NEIL'S TRYOUT SONG ) SO ANYWAY YOU GET A 2 FOR 1 DEAL. THIS WAY, YOU HEAR AND CAN WATCH THE ORIGINAL RECORDING, YOU CAN'T BEAT THAT! :)
T-Hart, thanks for the reaction! No need to react to live Tom Sawyer since they usually play it note-perfect in concert (because it's so hard to get right, live). Have you done "Xanadu" live in 1981/Exit Stage Left yet? That one is a mind-blower!
peeeeeeease do us and youself a favor and listen to FOCUS : HOCUS POCUS Live 1973 Midnight Special (must be this version - you´ll be surprised beyond any comparison, but i can´t spoil here why)
During the solo the odd percussion sound is an instrument called a vibraslap.
😍 Awesome! Unexpected double treat! 🍿🐰

😁 Tom Sawyer. 😁 And I have snacks leftover. Let's Go! 🍿🐰
A bonus of Tom Sawyer. Thanks! Do the lyric version of "The Camera Eye". It's longer and a two part song. ✌️😎
For Live Rush, Exit Stage Left, the best recordings live by rush are there.
Love it thanks for the double dip! Definitely do some of the requests I saw below like the pass, driven, Far Cry, and test for Echo
Thanks for reacting to Rush again! Would love to hear what you think of Marathon by Rush
😁 Closing in on YYZ in Rio! 😏 I can feel it! 🍿🐰 #ENRGYZRBunny

I love this song. But the live version from A Show of Hands, with the extended ending is a lot better then the studio version, in my opinion
Pls bro , react to Rush - Red Sector A = song about holocaust , Geddy Lee parents was survive to holocaust .. Neil Peart deep lyrics .. 😎👍
