The range in Gilmour's voice is amazing. For sure this is definitely not typical Floyd fare. In fact it was a while before a lot of people even realized that "Young Lust" was Pink Floyd when it was getting moderate airplay on FM radio for months after the album was released.

On the album, there is absolutely no gap between songs, no dead air, sounds like one song. This has always been a drawback about cds. And Pink Floyd did that a LOT!!

The music does not end, when it changes tracks. You need to listen to a full extract of the album to hear the continuity.

There's an ending missing to the first song that is available only in the movie and on the special anniversary live album

These two songs are not necessarily chronological but they are thematically linked. And if one takes the view that the whole record is a stream of conscience mental replay of life's snippets of the main character, Pink, then these certainly lend credence. Half way through the first selection there is a backward recording of Waters -an easter egg of sorts- where he congratulates the listener for finding the message making a veiled reference to Syd Barrett. The important part though is he is interrupted in this message by engineer James Guthrie telling him that his wife, Carolyne, is on the phone. He says OK and presumably answers her call. At the end of Young Lust there is another phone call. This one is more obvious. It recreates one of Roger Waters more painful moments from his past. While on tour he called home to his then wife Judy, and a man answered the phone. They divorced soon after. You may also notice at the end of Another Brick Part 2 there is a ringing phone.
The irony though is thick. Pink thinking through the empty spaces of his life and the empty space for more bricks, hurt as he is by an unfaithful woman but on the other hand giving in to the lecherous life of a traveling rocker and yet expecting the ever faithful wife to be at home awaiting his return. The wife is also a theme that will recur through the album. Young Lust is one of three David Gilmour song contributions in the album not counting all the superb guitar work.

Ok, after listening to the album you must watch the movie "The Wall" and you'll get a better understanding of what the album is all about.

Idk about you guys but I think film was bad, it's definetly better to understand The Wall by reading all of the lyrics over and over again. It's just my opinion tho

The movie was Alan Parker's interpretation of what the album was about, not the Floyd's, and, apart from Gerald Scarfe's animation, it was pretty bad. Roger said he didn't like the finished version of the film as it strayed too far from his vision of the story. For once in my life I agree with him. The album tells the story perfectly while the film muddies everything up with extraneous stuff that is, not only unnecessary but actually detrimental to the music. It would have been better to go with the original idea of splicing live concert footage with Scarfe's animations - that would have been perfect, but then I've always been a purist when it comes to the Floyd.
