You young folks have made an old man smile…I’m 73…white..retired musician from that era. I love every single one of you. Thank you. Keep up the wonderful work. THIS is how we all come together..one love…
This solo live performance by Bobby Hatfield of “Unchained Melody”, while not the first rendition, is widely considered to be the best, as well as to be one of the top five live performances of all time. It is widely considered to be the single best performance of this song, of all time. Bobby Hatfield and his singing partner, Bill Medley, put “blue eyed soul” on the musical map. One man, one microphone, no autotune, no computer tricks. Just pure talent and that rarest of all singing voices, the contra tenor. Brilliant. Timeless and brilliant.
I’m 76 years old and had the amazing privilege of having the righteous brothers sing this song at my dinner table, it’s something I never forgot, it was amazing, they were very kind to us and I’m a Puerto Rican and my husband to be was a Mexican young man so I can say there were no racial barriers ( we were in California) 💞🙌🙏🥰💙

That was a wonderful thing for you to do. To bring back all those memories for your mum at the end, bless you, you would have made her passing so much more peaceful. My mum didn’t die of Covid19 but a mixed type dementia 3 yrs ago during covid that took her within a year. She was saved the years of decline and was able to die at home. Sadly, he was anything but relaxed. He had crippling performance anxiety that eventually led to him becoming a drug addict and his early death. An enormous talent cut down by his demons.

I was ten years old when this song came out. I spent my teenage years with my transistor radio held to my ear listening this played over and over, through the years. My first girlfriend and I slow danced to this at our prom. I'm a pianist. I played and sang it to my wife. I'm sixty-eight now. My loves are memories now, but "Unchained Melody" is still one of the greatest love songs ever written. It is timeless. It will never need a remake. Now... if I'm honest, it's hard for me to listen to. But that's ok. They are tears with fine, fine memories.

This is the ONLY song that always gives me chills EVERY TIME I hear it and I was around in the 90s when all the radio stations constantly played this on the hour every hour.
I loved watching the awe and appreciation in these young folks eyes. True beautiful soulful sounds. Bobby did this better than anyone else every could or will. I'm 70 years old but these songs bring back my youth. We were the generation with amazing music.
The Righteous Brothers prove that soulfull ( heartfelt) music transcends race. Black, White, Green, Purple doesn't matter. Music and real talent are amazing and brings our common souls together like nothing else can. The Righteous Brothers were a gift from above and made (still make) millions happy. Not too many artists had the talent to do what they did !
My wife and I had this song played at our wedding in 1991. I loved since the first time I heard it 10 to 15 years before that. Loved it in the movie, Ghost, which was one of my wife's favourite films. Sadly, my beautiful wife passed away suddenly, on 1st Sept, 2004. We had 4 primary school aged kids at the time. Now, every time I hear this song the memories of that day come flooding back and make the tears just pour down my cheeks. I'm 70 now and this wonderful song, sung by one of two very talented men, is still great, maybe perennial. Just look at the faces of Empress JoyJean and TooSushi. They get it. Beautiful.
As i know he studied musik for four years at the south californien university. You can see his breathing technique. This is not talent only. This must be hard work. I also believe he had to train his voice intensive. From GER
The incredible and gifted voice of the late great Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers. No one has sung this song better. Written 68 years ago by award winning music composer Alex North with lyrics by Hy Zaret (1955) for the Prison Movie "Unchained." Andy Williams who was the host of his own show by the same named said it best "Beautiful!"
I was born in 1946. I remember when they first hit the charts. They had a sound which was magical and astounding. Beautiful. Blue eyed soul, is what they were referred to. Well named. Oh yes, like millions of others of all ages, I fell in love. How could I not?
It makes me happy to see generations enjoying each other's music. I was lucky. When I was born my grandmother was an opera singer. My aunt's music was the late 50s, my mom's was the 60's my youngest aunt the 70s, my music the 80s, my little brother's music the 90s, and then there was grunge. I listen to everything from jazz to pop to rap to country (classic) and modern country. I had fun with this, thanks!
He did this live , his Fiance and Mother were in the audience. It was an amazing performance. Im 64 so it was great to se reruns of this on tv. Just amazing talent.
A small club near El Toro Marine Base in So. California. A black Marine stood up and called out, "That's righteous, brothers!" A : while later, Bobby suggested they call themselves "The Righteous Brothers." The beginning of the greatest duo in the history of music. I wish Bobby were here to see the impact just listening to his voice has on everyone who has the good fortune to hear him. But being Bobby, he would be very humble, but happy. And Bill...great in his own right, still performing at age 82.
Somebody, pleeeze tell these Young Bloods that The Righteous Brothers COPIED the styles of the R&B greats from Day One. "Unchained Melody" was a huge hit by Black artists in the same style copied by The RB's; the RB's BECAME famous precisely as two White boys who sounded Black. Look it up, People!
Elizabeth Rich. The Righteous Brothers had great respect and admiration for Soul, RnB, loved performing them. When I first heard them in the early 60's, I thought they were black. They were so talented and did great justice to black music. They didn't do it to "copy" black music, but because they loved it. And they did they did a great job!
back when some singers only needed a band ,a mic and pure talent... no auto tune , no lip syncing nothing but an amazing voice and an awesome range ... RIP the legend Bobby Hatfield now kids of today might understand us oldies when we say music has gone to the crapper compared to days gone by
I remember my Mom had this record when I was little and played it when I was in my bed. I'm 66 now, and this song, this voice, gives me chills by the words "your touch". .. it looks like those reacting here feels the same way, you can see each person physically reacting by that same word.
All you men: pay attention. Ask why all women fall in love with this song, to this song. It's about true love, loyalty and faithfulness. That is what we all want from you.
Many don't realize how truly incredible and difficult this is. It is so hard to have that kind of control with that melody! to sing that slow is crazy!

We listen to, Righteous brothers, Otis Redding, Buddy Holly, John Denver, Eagles, James Brown, Alabama, Elvis, Four Tops, patsy Cline( related to her- she was a Hensley) , Oak ridge bros., I mean Like all the music was just talent. I was lucky enough to see the Righteous Brothers as a lead in to the Beatles when they performed in Vancouver, B. C. In the 60s. They were fabulous! And I was young.
Back in the day this was called "blue-eyed soul". No TV music videos at the time and people were surprised to find out they were white; conversely, people were surprised to find out that the great Charlie Pride was Black. Rest in peace Bobby Hatfield.
First song that caught my ear on the radio was Ring of Fire with Johnny Cash and the second one was Charlie Pride- Kerliga. I was 10 love Charlie Pride!
Damn, that was the best musical review I've ever seen, and using the reaction of other UA-camrs was a brilliant inspirational addition as well as your own input. You have a magical way to put the videos together. It was a brilliant song, although I only remember it from when my mum used to play it, but damn you did that song and reaction so well. Brilliant!
I feel for all these youngsters experiencing the Righteous Bros for the first time. I grew up being able to slow dance to all their tunes. The ladies would get close! Now check out "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling".
First of all , I would like to say , Thanks for sharing this of The Righteous Brothers, next I would like to say, you all are a beautiful family, keep up the good work. Now , I was 14 yrs. Old when that song came out n I were in love with that song then n still in love with it. Every time I hear this song it takes me back to High school, young heart running free. Now I am in my early seventh n still listening to this song n many more like this one, that takes me ( my mind ) back in the days. I live down south.
This is a wonderful heart felt song. Sung beautifully. Deserves to be in the classics. So lovely to see all the reactions. Music does truly reach us all.
I grew up on this music. My family taught us well and I taught my children who now have children. And now I am teaching my grandkids. That was actual musical talent. What the industry is sorely lacking now.
I grew up in the south, there's a place in Birmingham called tuxedo junction, a lot of soul music came out of that building, I love old soul music, muddy Waters was a good one, always loved Al Green 💚
Thank God your Grandad is feeling better. Grandad Knows GREAT MUSIC-give him a big hug for me and Thank him for insisting on hearing this Timeless Bobby Hatfield Classic!
The scariest part of Bobby Hatfield nailing this live was the lip bite at the end. He knew that it was the best performance he gave with this song. Yeah, no auto tune or any of that other stuff they use nowadays, but that lip bite said it all.
The song was written by the Bee Gees . It has been cover by my artist like Al Green in the 70's. Listen to the Bee Gees sing it. It one of their many hits.
@@Aurora-tp3dyI hadn't heard that. They had also just done another song, had about a minute convo with Andy where he sounds out of breath before doing this song, was supposedly also under the weather, plus nervous becuz his mom was in audience seeing him live for first time. He nailed it.
These guys were so awesome when they came out in 1964. I was 15 years old when I watched Bobby sing this beautiful song on the Andy Williams show. He owns this song. No auto tones, pure raw talent. You nedd hear Bobby sing Summertime.
Turned 6 that year there was a lot of good music coming to light in that period of time everything from soul to rock and country listed to country when my parents played music my older cousins turned me on to rock so much of it I still listen to today
I'm in my mid sixties and I remember I was 17 when I first heard this song with the band in a small suburbs in Germany! You know how emotional teens are, and yes, I was there with a lot of my teen friends and it was an emotional hit for all of us! Not long before (or after) we all got totally killed by another hit, which was a movie, and had its own hits song, called the Love Song. This song teleports me back every time I hear it.

We older folk still grew up with the best music ever.
We sure did.
And the best cars
Omg, when you hear Bobby sing, your heart will melt. You will get chills!!! He was timeless, and his music, will never end
Another great performance of Bobby singing is "Ebb Tide", a Righteous Brothers song that Bobby Hatfield did solo.
This is the ONLY song that always gives me chills EVERY TIME I hear it and I was around in the 90s when all the radio stations constantly played this on the hour every hour.
You are so right❤❤
I loved watching the awe and appreciation in these young folks eyes. True beautiful soulful sounds. Bobby did this better than anyone else every could or will. I'm 70 years old but these songs bring back my youth. We were the generation with amazing music.
When music was music and talent was real.
Too true. ❤
You hit it right on the head. They touched your soul
So true ❤
Young ppl……..BRING THAT SOUND BACK!
True, that!
This song conceived a LOT of babies!!
Hands down my all-time favorite song. I'm 68 and it still brings tears to my eyes...every single time❤️
Every time ❤️
Me too❤❤❤❤❤❤❤, I love his voice and the song, I wish for a love to sing that to me every day!!!!
I'm right there with you 😌
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
76 years ago and still counting😊
Beautiful.
Let you know he's not a trained singer. Pure talent! 🥰
Love you young folks enjoying this music!
Pure beauty from the 1960s
As i know he studied musik for four years at the south californien university. You can see his breathing technique. This is not talent only. This must be hard work. I also believe he had to train his voice intensive. From GER
He studied music in college; he's had a lot of training and practice. You don't reach this kind of level of virtuosity without it.
@@catherinelw9365 sorry, I'm wrong
I am so happy this generation gets to appreciate and enjoy the music of my youth. There's lots more for you to discover, enjoy.
Serenate with out vulgarity and with out denagrating women. This is love and respect to win the caress of a deisring love.
Yup this guy just nailed it others too but this one stands out for me
@@joesutherland225 He sure did. It has been considered as the greatest live television performance ever by a singer and orchestra. Priceless!
This man had such awesome talent lookat the mic and the cord this was live no filters just pure gift of talent another two brothers we're talented too
Top shelf blue eyed soul. Back in my day when talent was wonderful and men ❤️ women.
❤️
I was born in 1946. I remember when they first hit the charts. They had a sound which was magical and astounding. Beautiful. Blue eyed soul, is what they were referred to. Well named. Oh yes, like millions of others of all ages, I fell in love. How could I not?
One of the best songs ever, Elvis Presley song that song real good, I've been getting into the music my mother used to get into when I was a kid
You should watch them sing "You've Lost that Loving Feeling" . It'll blow your mind.
Definitely need to hear the two of them sing "You've lost that loving feeling"!
Absolutely yes!!!!!
One of my favorites!!!
That loving feeling is one of my favourites, unchained melody although beautifully sung is a bit too saccharine for me.
@@lizroberts1569 That's my favorite as well. The two singing together is always better. 😁
This performance was on the Andy Williams show. I remember watching it. They were all so very young.
I am 71.... and I listen to this music non-stop .. had it played at my wedding
So very happy these youngins are hearing these great songs. They will live on !!! Makes my heart full. ❤
We, Marines, have influence everywhere. Semper Fi!
Also, check out Dimash!
OooRah!!
I'm approaching 70 years on this earth. THIS song was a part of many relationships when I was a teen. Beautiful!
As a teenager this song struck too close to home and hard to listen to with dry eyes. As an old man - nothings changed.
This is my Favourite performance ever. So happy to see some youngsters giving Bobby Hatfield his flowers...
64 years old. I grew up on this in my teens, best generation for great music.
back when some singers only needed a band ,a mic and pure talent... no auto tune , no lip syncing nothing but an amazing voice and an awesome range ... RIP the legend Bobby Hatfield now kids of today might understand us oldies when we say music has gone to the crapper compared to days gone by
I completely agree with that.
I loved the 70's and early 80's music
so true the heart in the music is gone
@@lindadobranetski6302 but this song is from the 60s
60s were the best era
I remember my Mom had this record when I was little and played it when I was in my bed.
I'm 66 now, and this song, this voice, gives me chills by the words "your touch". .. it looks like those reacting here feels the same way, you can see each person physically reacting by that same word.
All you men: pay attention. Ask why all women fall in love with this song, to this song. It's about true love, loyalty and faithfulness. That is what we all want from you.
The righteous brothers know how to speak the language of women. Few men do.
Amen!
Then be better. Stop being awful. That’s all we want from you.
Many don't realize how truly incredible and difficult this is. It is so hard to have that kind of control with that melody! to sing that slow is crazy!
Many thoughts and memories of that era. This performance is one of the highlights. Such magic will endure through the generations. RIP Sweet Bobby.
I was a senior in high school. They didn't have all the electronics. such a good time to be alive. Music uplifted us, brought us together!
Yes, for real! They did not lip sink at all. It was live! The '60's music was fantastic!
What a wonderful medley of reactions! Delightful to watch, and to hear. A great song for any generation.
This song came out by the Righteous Brother's in 1965. It was a hit. Then they put it in the movie Ghost and it became a hit for the second time.
But it was a cover song.
@@katthill7506 It was the Andy Williams show. The single was released in July and peaked in August before that October performance which is why Andy wanted him to sing it.
@@Aurora-tp3dy you're right.thanks
Imagine if this type of music is what the kids today listened to. It would be a different society.
I'm 70, and to this day I still get goosebumps every time I hear him sing this song.❤
They started as a garage band. My cousin knew them and sang with them back in the day. She also hung out with Tom Jones. 😂
Archaic electronic gear, no auto tune, straight singing.
I love watching people watch music for the first time. We had so much fantastic music in the 50, 60, and 70s I think was the best.
These been my Favorite Song of all Time abd theres tears coming everytime I hear this Guy singing this Song since my Husband pass away 5 years ago, Is just so, so Beautiful, u get Goosebumps just by hearing, His Voice was of an Angel, first time I heard it, it was like if I got hit with a Spell kuz I've been listining all the time since the first time I Heard it, Righteous Brothers were Unique with their Voices, Mesmerizing, Beautiful, Enchanted!!!!!!!
I love that the old songs/singers are being recognized and appreciated by new and younger generations! 🎶
Hope your Grandad is still doing well!
My mom left this earth in August. This was her absolute most favorite song
Brilliant!
Im 75, and was a teenager when the rightious brothers came on the scene. Made for memorable date nights.
Kept the backseat busy. 😅😂
I feel for all these youngsters experiencing the Righteous Bros for the first time. I grew up being able to slow dance to all their tunes. The ladies would get close! Now check out "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling".
Unchained Melody isn't a group ,it isn't even 2 guys. It''s Bobby Hatfield all by himself with his amazing voice.
They also did “you’ve lost that living feeling. Another amazing tune.
No auto tune just actual talent
The most romantic song ever. Bobby’s parents were in the audience and he was very nervous.
The lip bite, it was a nervous habit. He supposedly said that right before he began he thought he was going to faint.
Pavarotti did the same at the end of a recording (live performance) of Nessun Dorma. He knew it was perfection
The song was written by the Bee Gees . It has been cover by my artist like Al Green in the 70's. Listen to the Bee Gees sing it. It one of their many hits.
@@caroljackson912 Unchained Melody was written by Alex North and Hy Zaret in 1955. Did you respond to the wrong song?
@@Aurora-tp3dyI hadn't heard that. They had also just done another song, had about a minute convo with Andy where he sounds out of breath before doing this song, was supposedly also under the weather, plus nervous becuz his mom was in audience seeing him live for first time. He nailed it.
Now of course you have to listen to "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" to get them both singing. It'll knock your socks off!
These guys were so awesome when they came out in 1964. I was 15 years old when I watched Bobby sing this beautiful song on the Andy Williams show. He owns this song. No auto tones, pure raw talent. You nedd hear Bobby sing Summertime.
OMG, how did people live without the internet and autotune?❤
They had ACTUAL TALENT!!
@Bliss Beach
We were busy inventing the internet, computers, microchips.
No autotune as singers had genuine talents, pitch, musicality.
Turned 6 that year there was a lot of good music coming to light in that period of time everything from soul to rock and country listed to country when my parents played music my older cousins turned me on to rock so much of it I still listen to today
Summertime...can you say Billy Stewart?
I'm in my mid sixties and I remember I was 17 when I first heard this song with the band in a small suburbs in Germany! You know how emotional teens are, and yes, I was there with a lot of my teen friends and it was an emotional hit for all of us! Not long before (or after) we all got totally killed by another hit, which was a movie, and had its own hits song, called the Love Song. This song teleports me back every time I hear it.
Real music. Coming from the heart. No light show. No auto tuner. No crazy dancing. Just real music. I loved watching everyone’s reactions!!❤❤
