Ken describes how players will no longer be held hostage to inductance and frequency response issues, and also how Fishman Fluence Multi-Voice Electric Bass Pickups move pickup design into the future while respecting the great pickups of the past.

      Hey. I'm a fender jazz bass guy. I have an elite model that I love the sound but hate the weight, fat neck and everything about it. I'm considering a SLS Elite 4. Unfortunately local stores don't carry them.
      How would you compare the vintage tones with this? I do not play metal, do not pay any padels. Straight to the amp, old vintage tones.

      @fazquasha2632 yes, this bass can give you a good jazz bass tone (or tones). Switch the three way selector to the passive tone and pull the volume pot for single coil. The added advantage is that you can add or remove some bass and treble to fine tune. Not to mention the other tones available if you needed. I play mine with the volume pot out most of the time, as I'm not a fan of humbuckers on bass. It's very comfortable to play with a slim through-neck design and substantial chrome frets, which never get ground down and are smooth for bends, if that's you're thing. Of course, if you want a more traditional style J-type, the Sire Marcus Miller basses are the best value for money. The Schecter is medium weight I would say. Not the lightest, but it's not as heavy as my Fender Precision.

      @@fazquasha2632 that depends on my mood at the time, or what type of music i'm recording. if it's hard rock it's probably the precision. anything else then probably the SLS. My precision has Seymour Duncan quarter pounder pickups, so it has more grunt. However the SLS can give me sounds that might suit different tracks.

    I have these in my Schecter Evil Twin 5. They are fantastic. I can play old 60's & 70's, Metal, Primus songs, they sound fantastic. The versatility is great if you play multiple styles, get lots of different sounds. They seem to really pull the sound out of your playing, so if your sloppy you'll hear it. Maybe too hot if your going Frank Bello, or Steve Harris style. The idea seems to me that the better you play the better they'll sound. Forcing me to be more consistent. I would say check em out when you get the chance. You'll be happy for the versatility, and if you can't get the sound you want, your probably doing something wrong.

      I was wondering the same. I think Fishman have been trying to get these to more builders and get them more into the market, but it’s hard because in the bass world it’s not exactly the same marketing strategy as in the guitar world, where they can make signature models and have a bunch of sponsored players that are really good at what they do. There’s really only a handful of great bass players in the public spotlight (that people would actually know of, not saying there aren’t good bass players out there, they’re just not well known), and the artists like Flea and Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, etc - the bass players we all know and love, they already have business deals that are going well for them, and aren’t really interested in switching to Fishman pickups. So far I think the only mass market bass company to actually ship these is Schecter, but I think LTD may be using them in their new models for this year, so I guess that’s something 🤷‍♂️

    You put so much money into R&D developing these pickuo system, wich sounds good in other videos, and you have the balls to record the worst clips possible ever for the sole selling point of these pickups which is the character changes available at a switch flick. Im not even mad at the guy for not being a good bass player, but I am at the fact that there was noone in this recording session who actually knew how a bass sounds, and whoever reviewed this content before releasing to the public didnt either. • @sosmooth7
    @sosmooth7 5 років тому +7

    They use the slapping technique because it tends to show the overall versatility of the pickups and bass. With all of the overdriven and distortion in the metal songs its hard to tell what kind of pickup is being used!!
    Metalheads tend to knock the slapping technique, but it is the one technique that you can use to really size up a pickup or bass because there are so many different tonalities involved in playing that style of bass.

    • @DrSinisster
      @DrSinisster 5 років тому +3

      Its also really annoying to hear it in every video review. I like good slap players, unfortunately it is too often used to sound like a better player than they are as well. Hence why Metalheads scoff at it. I myself feel that you can do all you need with your fingers too show a pick-up, but you have to actually know how to play to do that. Its just my opinion, I do agree it can show some of the pick-up, not all though, with fingers you can.

    • @sosmooth7
      @sosmooth7 5 років тому +3

      Here's one thing that I do know,that everything isn't for everybody! Metalheads are or maybe talented but , you wouldn't know that by just listening to their music because its hard to hear what is being played because of the sound of the bass is being masquaraded by distortion and shear loudness. To play slap bass requires the musicians and the equipment to respond in a way as to be fairly judged.
      To each his own! just my opinion!!!

    *Each pickup should have its own three way voicing toggle switch, and its own push/pull double/single coil volume knob..., though you would have two push/pull volumes instead of a single push/pull master and blend pot... That way..., with the volume knobs either full up or down, you would have forty-eight pickup voicing combinations instead of only the eighteen offered here... Why are you forced to set the same mode and voicing for both pickups in tandem? Is it not much more logical that if you're going to develop a brilliant new state-of-the-art pickup system, where a single pickup can have six different voicings..., if you install two in an instrument..., that you take full advantage of your new system and allow people to configure their instruments how they want to? What if I want a nice vintage single coil at the neck blended with a modern humbucker at the bridge? Too bad with this thing..., especially knowing that the pickups could have done it, except that they didn't want to add a second mini-toggle switch and replace a pan-pot with a second push/pull pot... Right now, I use two EMG-40TW dual mode pickups, and two of my favorite settings are, "neck single + bridge double", and, "neck double + bridge single"... This new, "EMG Killer", pickup set could have been able to do this..., but due only to the limited stock wiring configuration, it can't... Do I not have a glaring point?...*

    • @KiWi-iu9dj
      @KiWi-iu9dj 4 роки тому +2

      They're already too feature-heavy for me, so I reckon that going on the straightforward side when stock is the right call. If you wish to complicate things further, then you can do that yourself with half an hour, €20 of parts and a soldering iron. They're not forcing you to set the same mode and voicing for both pickups, that's just the standard wiring pattern.
