  • After working his way up in a series of Hopalong Cassidy B westerns, the perennially underrated actor Robert Mitchum seemed to have become an instant star. Who noticed how good he really was? What was it like growing up the son of a superstar? Did Mitch ever offer any advise to his sons? Find out the answers to those questions and more in this exclusive look back with son, actor Chris Mitchum, on A WORD ON WESTERNS, recorded at The Autry Museum May 16, 2017.

      Chris Mitchum was, at best, an extra. His father and John Wayne gave him a career. I also would like to say that I am tired of people who acted in some western movies pretending to be "cowboys" in their later years. This show is lame. Word is not even from the west. He is just a producer from Florida who found a way to make money pretending to be a westerner.

    • @bluenetmarketing
      @bluenetmarketing 2 роки тому

      @@tomsampson8084 Not sure why you are so negative. What you say doesn't make any sense. Acting is acting, it isn't a documentary using real people. Besides, people change careers all the time. And there's nothing wrong with finding a way to make money. We all do it. Have you done any acting or movie making? You might like it and be good at it if you try.

      There's a very interesting interview with Ronald Reagan at his presidential library that in it he talks about John Wayne making the movie The Green Berets and how certain factions in Hollywood tried to purposely torpedo it, Reagan was Governor of California at the time and was told tickets weren't available for the movies opening but in reality they were trying to make the movie look bad by having empty seats on opening night, try looking up Ronald Reagan/John Wayne on youtube and I'll bet you can find it, it's pretty interesting what he said happened and especially John Waynes reaction when he caught on to what was happening.

David Lean wanted to work with Mitchum and misplaced him in “Ryan’s Daughter.” His stature was too powerful for the part. The intimidation Mitchum brings to “Cape Fear” (1962) and the final scenes show how wonderful an actor he was. His great body of work will guarantee his iconic place in movies for all time. Ernie version is slower than Mitchum's version. I will stick with Chris Mitchum, myself who can clearly hear it is Mitchum, A&E Biography, and Wikipedia which is documentation that you do not have. Also, there is an interview of Mitchum stating he sang the title song. FYI: Glenn Campbell was never credited for True Grit but, he sang it.

    Hey, Rob. I ran across this interview with Chris Mitchum and it is a gem, my friend. I like Chris and hearing him speak about hid dad is really a wonderful treat, and “the goose” is a hoot. The Cowboy Hall of Fame is mentioned and I have been there. An old service buddy was stationed there and I just had to make a visit. One thing that really caught my eye was the sculpture of “End of The Trail” with the totally defeated Native Amarican on his pony; what a moving work of art that piece is.. As an aside there were other Halls of Fame in that city including the National Softball. And Firefighters Halls of Fame as well.Thanks for the video, Rob, and take care, amigo.

    Great interview with Chris Mitchum who played in (3) John Wayne movies - Rio Lobo, Chisum, and Big Jake. I contact Chris Mitchum a while ago and he responded: River of No Return song in the movie is sung by Robert Mitchum. There are no credits before or after the movie. I confirmed this by contacting Robert Mitchum's son Chris Mitchum who stated Dad sang it! Robert Mitchum had a beautiful singing voice. Great movie & acting by Mitchum & Monroe! Thanks for doing the interview. Many classic movies with Robert Mitchum that I never miss when on TV.

      @MysteryFan I don't know if I'm downstream of culture, but I stopped watching television twelve years ago when I moved to Montana. I've only been in a movie theater twice in the last 21 years, once to see "Shakespeare in Love" in 1998 and again in 2015 to see the live action version of Disney's "Cinderella". I get all my entertainment from UA-cam and DVDs. If the internet and television went dark tomorrow, I'd still have several years worth of movies and TV shows on DVD that I haven't had time yet to view. To me the Golden Age of TV was from the early 50s to the late 60s. After that, the pickings started getting mighty slim. As for movies, the range is much wider, but started seriously tapering off after Warren Beatty made that abomination of a movie called "Bonnie & Clyde" in 1967. When elevating psychopathic killers to martyrdom, while making the honest brave men who tracked them down appear to be monsters, there is something seriously defective with our society.
