      Great saws, ive had mine for 12 years, running a cheap replacement piston and cylinder and I've cut a few hundred cubic meters of firewood with it and felled up to 30" trees with it.
      Solid, dependable and still have all parts available!

    Great save, makes you wonder what slips through the net and gets scrapped when some old boy dies and the family just want all the 'old junk' gone.
    I think that's a 'Vokes' military spec air filter, something tells me they're pretty rare to find. You may find the engine was reconditioned and put into storage, I had 2 ex-Air Ministry Villiers MK 25s and was told by the seller that was the case, one still had a plastic blanking plug in the spark plug hole so could have been true but I sold them on without doing anything with them.

      Yeah my mate called tonight and said his brother had been looking for one of the air filters for years. Maybe they are rare. I have no idea.

    How about 2 big croc clips joined by a bit of bendy copper heavy duty mains wire to test sparks? One end to hold the plug, the other to clip to earth. I've been meaning to make one for years, it's such a pain trying to prop a plug against a bit of the engine to watch for sparks! Maybe next time, I think I've got the bits in my shed, the croc clips being electric fence ones. But I'll probably just prop a plug on the block once again :)

    Easiest and quickest way to check for a spark is put your thumb over the end of the plug lead and turn the engine a few times. Saves a lot of time wondering

    My first thought was of the bicycle and motorbike manufacturer of the same name once based in Ashford, Kent... Completely different company. Shame that Norman didn't use Norman engines. That is a particularly good looking unit, reminiscent of Douglas, ABC, etc...Oh, well...

    Norman used to make quality push bikes to think they were in Ashford Kent.

    That generator looks like it's off an aircraft I had one once that I was going to use for a welder but sent it to Duxford as it was brand new old stock(1945) Air ministry 24 volt 300 amp.

    Nice engine, I would have liked to see you blow that rubbish off it with your compressed air before you started, but that’s just me 😬

    Wishing you success getting this running. The points look odd (to me), they seem to be rotating along with the cam (so would never open, close properly), you can tell that I know nothing about engines.

      @NorfolkMancave  11 місяців тому

      Lol.. its a funny set up. Several mags have that same set up were the points spin and cam is fixed.

    This Norman genset is obviously 12 v if not 6v. Since this Norman is so old my guess is 6v. Like to see her run though. Looks a lot like a washing machine motor. If here stateside across the pond. My guess is also 300 watts ya'll could charge a battery with over night. The old boy that built this Norman probably expired back in 1957 or so. Like to see what voltage she puts out. If 12v might be a 65 model genset though the military plugs point back to before 1945 thus 6v.
