@@janetmilan4698 Most of the texts with "disturbing verbiage" were not even to Amber, JD was venting to his friends "Burn the witch" text was to Paul Bettany, "rotting corpse in the trunk of a Honda Civic" was to Isaac Baruch
I find that's almost impossible... I'm already so deep in a hole of saying horrible things to my partner... God help me if he gets murdered, I'll definitely be THE suspect. Also the true crimes I watch constantly won't help my case. I swear even if I didn't love him anymore I couldn't murder him. Plus our dogs would be devastated.
There’s a recording, that I heard on Christina Randall’s channel, of Johnny saying he’ll go to therapy as long as she agrees to tell the truth in the sessions. He went on to say that he gets angry and frustrated and has walked out of sessions before bc she doesn’t tell the therapist to truth and/or misrepresents the situation. So in terms of Spiegel implying that perpetrators/Johnny don’t seek therapy is confusing bc we know that he went to therapy alone and with her several times. So what was his point??
i have been listening to these on your podcast and you are the only person i can listen to talking about this subject. your intentions are so unbiased. Every single time you hear about this, someone is throwing their opinions in your face. as someone who has been through abuse, it feel so good to hear someone talk through it objectively and not settling on one side or the other. it feels like everyone else who talks about this is trying to force everyone in to agreeing with them and belittling and demeaning the side that doesn’t. it is so helpful to listen to your points. 💜 - oklahoma!
While I agree with the objectivity expressed, it is difficult to like the venom expressed in this intimate relationship by AH. I of course question JD's ability to withstand the continuous barrage of hostility, but given the numbing effects of the alcohol and drugs, it is somewhat understandable. Bottom line, she lied and this lie damaged his career at a critical point in our society beginning to acknowledge and deal with the abuse of women by men. I don't think, based on observation, that he is an abuser of her or any women. He abused himself!
@@anneschmidt5815 oh okay, thanks for the input. i wasn’t really saying that i’m on any side. what i was trying to get at was i appreciate Dr. Honda’s ability to remain so undecided and unbiased. he looks at the possibility of both sides being right and wrong and comes from a psychology perspective that is very helpful when understanding the case. it really helps me personally because so much of the world right now is trying to prove a certain side is right, when most of the time they haven’t even looked in to it deeply or analyzed it. just listened to other people’s opinions on short videos all over the internet. and especially because i have gone through abuse, hearing anyone defend any possible abusers is upsetting and hearing anyone insult possible victims is upsetting. until it is settled in court, it is still possible that either one or both could be considered an abuser or a victim and yes, i agree that there is very damning evidence against AH, i also find is hard to believe that anyone who has gone in to that level of specificity when listing the abuse accounts is lying. i feel like a liar would probably be a little bit more vague or try to exaggerate what actually occurred. maybe that is happening and maybe it is not but i appreciate people who can talk about their professional opinions on the topic without choosing a side. it makes it possible for people like me to understand the accusations and explain some of the behaviors that are being accused.
@@bethanyray6421 I think people have made their minds already BECAUSE there's so much proof out there that shows amber is lying and this isn't something that just came out yesterday, this has been going on for 6 years where everyone just assumed her words were true, believed her and blamed him without a second thought but now that he's fighting to tell the truth to get people to listen to his side of things and telling the world he's the victim and not the abuser, NOW everyone suddenly wants to be careful on not blaming victims assuming amber is one or defending an abuser assuming Johnny is one, it's a little hypocritical that's all. But I get it, people are allowed their opinions. I personally watch him cause I like his professional input on things I obviously don't know anything about not his neutrality 😆 lol .
@@elfzen3489 yeah i get that too. for me, i used to be on johnny depp’s side without hearing any evidence at all. before this trial was all over the internet and trending, i believed him because it was the only account i had heard. now, after being abused myself, and being around many abusers who minimize abuse and victims, i have decided that i don’t have all of the answers. the reason this is in court is because it’s undecided and yes, it looks like it is leaning a certain way. but i have enough experience with it now to know that the only people who understand what happened in a relationship are the people within that relationship. i just appreciate Dr. Honda’s opinions on this because he tries his hardest to be neutral and i think he does a great job. and as a psychology student i am interested in hearing a professional opinion. but i totally get where you are coming from, 1000% and if johnny is the victim then i am going to be so glad that people believe him and his experience is not minimized. also i am already so happy that men are finally being recognized in the media as having the ability to be victims. whether or not JD is one, he is raising awareness for male victims and that is a victory that no one can deny!! :)
I think the first part of his intervetion wasn't bad but he lost me at the certainty he had about his diagnosis and the cross examination was ridiculous and unsettling, so he lost all credibility in my opinion
Everyone has the right to their opinion but you're coming across as quite glib. You do realize that a that a 2 bottle of wine a day IS A drinking problem. But Johnny he's the raging alcoholic. It just always felt the attraction they had was a ride or die and it was someone that could share their interest in drugs alcohol and whatever. . Therefore there's no judgement. No judgement. And I love the way he talks. to top it all off.
I don't know if Johnny's texts can be taken as "abusive" since none of them were sent directly TO Amber herself. He was only privately venting to his friends about her, and there's not even one instance I can remember he was being verbally abusive. Even in the hours upon hours of audio recordings, he very rarely snaps back at her with the intent of humiliating or demeaning her, all the while she's demeaning, humiliating, and gaslighting him without a break.
@Miss Manawaka agreed, if Amber had written in blood on walls messages to Johnny this lynch mob would gave her burned at the stake as a lunatic ready for a white jacket.
With all the constant abuse from him, he expresses to his friends-that’s all we’ve heard. Your supposing for a fact that he also did it directly to her is you gaslighting
Sometimes it feels like people are trying to vilify him for no reason- mainly just because it just seems hard to believe AH would be such a complete lier. He uses bad language and has the ability to be quite brutal with language in a wordy, abstract way when he vents, but not actually 'to' anyone (actually more likely towards himself). I would say people who do this are not the people who get violent- they vent through words. But yes those texts aren't to her anyway or anyone else.
Dr. Curry appeared in rebuttal and gave a great deal of detailed information about the testing both she and Dr Hughes conducted, if you'd like to review that.
He will get there - he stated in the last video something that she said and he believed (which a lot of us found ludicrous) so I'm keen to get to his review of that one - especially the lack of tears and quick changes between emotions

A lot of times abusers see themselves as victims and try to get the therapist to reinforce their delusions in order to continue. When the therapist catches on, they leave.

CONGRATULATIONS 🎉👏 On getting help!! I honestly admire you more than I can say. Those in my family who appear to have Borderline Personality Disorder (through mine and other family members experiences and our therapists) still choose to not get help and have continued to repeat the same patterns which sadly just leads to the same outcomes of losing relationships. My sister who is sadly much like Amber, dropped out of treatment and instead believed that yoga could cure her. We assume that the therapist started identifying her behaviors and she really didn't seem to want to change. Sadly, she just keeps repeating her same patterns but we hope that she will at least become less violent as she is now getting older. I wish they had your strength and courage to get help and to want to get better and commit to treatment. I have PTSD based on abuse and trauma experienced in my family, and EMDR was very helpful. I was pretty fascinated watching this trial play out but as it goes on it is really disheartening. Dr. Kirk's videos really give perspective to the fact both JD and AH are people struggling with forces beyond their control (i.e., addiction, personality disorder) and seeing it play out for the world is just...gross. I am thankful I found this channel, it has improved my ability to be differentiated.
I come here to help me check my bias when I get hyped feeling about what is going on. This trial is crazy and really gets me going in the things I am witnessing going on in court. Dr. Kirk's voice and analysis is very soothing. 😊
@@lapaloozie1618 I find Dr. Kirk’s voice and energy soothing as well. I watch or listen to his content usually daily but will often play a UA-cam video of him to help me feel better if I’m in a bad mood. I find him so comforting!
I get you. I'm also disturbed and disgusted in how everything about this trial was played out as entertainment, especially since it's so dark, no just the subject matter but the participants' lives. I think the trial ends tomorrow and, in my opinion, having it livestreamed/televised was a huge mistake. We (society) learned nothing, on the contrary, it exposed new lows in the way we consume content and use social media. I mean, this video series has been enlightening for a few (very few, judging by most of the comments) but, imo, not enough to justify the gross spectacle of this trial.
I think his videos could be improved a lot by not commenting on every sentence mainly. And commenting on a whole section of questions or highlights. As most of the time he cuts someone off mid sentence, sometimes prejudging on what they are saying only to get new information if he had just kept it playing. We all know why we wanted him to react to this guys testimony, and it was for the bullshit he spews later on diagnosing someone without talking to them etc.
Johnny Depp has been diagnosed with ADHD and depression prior to this. I think that Dr.Spiegel keeps attempting to attribute Depp's ADHD symptoms and behaviors to whatever diagnosis he thinks sounds good for his side.

Talking about self inflicting injuries under substance abuse: a nurse which was a friend of mine, was assigned to emergency room and one day happened to receive a guy who GOUGED his eye out with a spoon and cut the nerve. When they asked him why he did that, he said "my eye was itching, itching soooo bad I wanted out". I do not remember what drug he used, but yeah, when Dr. Spiegel talks about he saw way worse self inflicted injury under drugs, he's totally right.
That's really sad. I think the jury needed to hear about the possible effects of the different substances he was using, since the average person wouldn't know that.
In the ER we had a patient on hallucinogens that thought his penisnwas possessed by a demon because it was getting erect against his wishes, so he....got rid of the demon. People do some horrendous stuff sometimes on drugs.

That is certainly not the norm and I would bet that most of those people are in some kind of stimulant drug induced psychosis. Many meth addicts become delusional, paranoid, and sometimes psychotic after not sleeping or eating for long periods of time. If Depp was using opiates or alcohol at the time, this would not be the case because those put you to sleep. Plus, he would have been acting paranoid and delusional for several days and in front of everyone, not just Amber.
With two masters in the field I am having issues seeing past this witness and his outburst and testimony. I understand that he is knowledgeable, however what I saw after his initial testimony was unprofessional to say the least, never mind the assumptions he voiced.
“Perpetrators don’t seek council” this is total BS!!!! My abuser/parent certainly did and still does and I am able to maintain a healthy relationship with them now because of it!
It's a completely different dynamic compared to IPV, especially when perpetrated by males. I can reference Lundy Bancroft's book, "Why does he do that?", written after working with such men on their issues for 15 years. Most of them, minus a small minority, where in those programs because a court had mandated it. Male abusive behaviour towards women comes from a twisted view of women and relationships. They may regret the behaviour but they don't see anything wrong with those views. Neither does Depp.
Mine never did. She abused me until the day she died and would absolutely lose her ties to reality at the suggestion of seeking help. Same with my ex, but he’s still alive and I’m still in hiding.
Been watching a lot of your videos recently and I find them to be great. If anything, a good outcome out of all of this is that it created an opportunity to discuss complex topics like abuse, partner violence, mental disorders, etc. And not only "talk" about them, but discuss, at least generally, how those those "look like" in real life. I could be wrong, but I believe that a lot of people trapped in those situations have a hard time identifying them, so this could genuinely save lifes. Kudos to you on your work =)
@@TannerisSmol97 Yeah, the argument is that discussions about what depression, abuse, mental illness, IPV, etc. actually are and what they look like are generally poor because (1) these are topics that still have a ton of stigmas surrounding them, making first person interactions on these topics sparse since no one wants to "admit" to them, and (2) because of this, the public discussions have traditionally been poor in terms of content, which means a lot of people have opinions based on faulty information and then share them their incorrect intuitions, compounding the problem. Not sure in what context you live in that makes you think these topics have adequate representation in the public discourse.

I will say I do prescribe Seroquel during the day in addition to night time to assist with symptoms of anxiety. So if for example I prescribe a benzodiazepine like Klonopin once or twice a day as needed, I may add Seroquel during the day as needed for breakthrough anxiety to limit an extra dose of a benzodiazepine. Also, yes Seroquel is used on the street but not as much as other meds like benzodiazepines and stimulants. In my opinion they’re street value is kind of low. Essentially, it’s not the same “high” as a benzodiazepine or an opiate. But it’s just my opinion.
Maybe I’m fatigued and forgetting, but I could swear Dr. S. gave a caveat at the beginning stating the he was not speaking in reference to MH patients needing a valid pharma “cocktail” (paraphrasing); nor was he speaking to (nor condemning) occasional users of illegal drugs. He seemed non-judgemental and pharmaceutically liberal to patients/clients with MH conditions and un-met needs. Dr. S. was focusing on over-use of addictive meds and synergistic combinations in on-going, non-niäve, treatment-avoidant individuals. It would be so interesting to see how JD’s and AH’s care may have taken a significant trajectory had they never been under Dr Kipper’s care-and instead have received top-notch psycho-pharmaceutical care from a legitimate, caring team (unimpressed by celebrity.)
I take it 0.5 of klonopin at night to sleep, and I remember my doctor saying he prescribed more for taxi drivers for anxiety in the morning. It is fascinating how our body reaction is completely different taking the same medication. My doctor is paranoid about prescribing me, and I never, ever abuse any medication. If I don’t sleep I am miserable. Klonopin make you lose your memory, it is horrible, I wish I don’t needed, but I have no choice. Ambien does nothing to me, and some others prescriptions have so many side effects that is not even funny. Hope science move forward by getting something else better for people that deal with insomnia and any mental health issues.
My god, could you imagine someone looking at your texts after an ugly divorce and making a diagnosis for you? Lol, I'd have been locked up for damn sure if that's all the evidence needed.
FYI it happens a lot and everybody's text can be subpoenaed. It happened in my divorce, but there weren't any accusations like this, we did have a fight over some investments but nothing was in our texts or emails. This diagnosis stuff happens a lot with custody cases though, so I'd advise anyone to clean their messages and emails regularly. And also be mindful about what you say when there's a paper trail 'cause it'll definitely be used against you (and sometimes winning or losing can come down to a nasty text).

It is known that Depp has an ADHD diagnosis which is what the adderal is for. It’s frustrating that they couldn’t really discuss it without submitting Depp to a forensic psych. The ADHD actually describes a lot of the attention and memory issues as well.

@@loveitftw DITTO 💯👍 Love Emily D. Baker and now Runkel and Law and Lumber who all have ADHD too. They show more insight on this than Mr Psychology in Seattle.
I think it's not brought up well enough that Depp has been diagnosed with ADHD. It's why he was taking stimulants. That can cause many of the symptoms here. Being late, forgetful, impulsive, sleep problems, trouble focusing... When you have ADHD, sleeping and waking up without meds can be really fucking hard. Of course it's better if you can live without meds, but I feel that it's a bit cruel to shame someone for not being able to wake up and go to sleep "naturally", when it's possible that it's not even an option for them. I'm not saying that anyone is wrong here, I just feel that we are missing some key information. But I have to admit to bias here because I have ADHD and have to rely on meds to function properly, so take what you will from it.
I was wondering why his ADHD wasn’t mentioned as well, some lawyers who have been commenting on the case have said that it could be because it would give Amber’s side an excuse to then force him to get a psychiatric evaluation (they tried twice and the court denied it). So his lawyers probably made the decision to not mention it and didn’t deem mentioning it necessary enough for the case.
It's all down hill from here! I know you probably watched the whole thing at once, but this doctor absolutely used the wrong basis/baseline to try and diagnose someone with serious issues without ever having met him.

So I have a chronic pain condition and am prescribed opiates and was on Gabapentin as well. I was on the highest dose of Gabapentin and I would have these times were I would just fall asleep out of nowhere, even while standing up. When I saw the pictures of Johnny past out with food on him - that was exactly me on Gabapentin! I would fall asleep eating, standing, doing any activity I would just all of sudden fall asleep. I also had cognitive deficits and major memory issues. A new pain doctor recognised these issues and told me to get off the Gabapentin, I had actually been wanting to do that for ages as I didn’t feel like it helped my pain at all but my other docs kept telling me to stay on them. Nobody realised that the issues were coming from the Gabapentin bc the symptoms of my chronic conditions are similar. Anyways I got off the Gabapentin and made a big turn around in my overall state. And I no longer fall asleep suddenly or have cognitive issues. And apparently Gabapentin blocks antidepressants from working and my mental health definitely improved after I came off it. So even just the one drug that Johnny was taking could account for a lot of his behaviour. There was no type of high from Gabapentin so I don’t know why it would be abused like that by anyone. But in Johnny’s case I could see him being prescribed it for pain as he did have an issue with pain which is why he became addicted to opiates. He also was taking adderal so it’s exactly as Dr Honda described - a pill to sleep and a pill to wake up and many other things in between!! I’m amazed he’s still alive to be honest! In my own case, I’ve been taking opiates for over 10yrs- and sadly I can definitely say that I can’t function without them. Am I abusing them? No. Do I get high from them? No, never have. I’m sure my dosage is very low compared to what Johnny was taking and I also don’t drink alcohol or take other drugs. However I have tried medicinal THC and if it was legal in U.K. I would definitely transition to that rather than take opiates. I have tried many times to stop taking the opiates but I only last about week before the pain is just too much. I constantly try to lower or limit the amount I take though bc if I don’t, I would constantly need to increase my dosage and I don’t want to do that. I do want to be rid of them eventually.

6:33 "I have no problem with people being angry" ... "was very uncomfortable for me to read" This is professional expert witness from a Psychiatrist??? 1. I don't believe it, surely Dr Spiegel, in his professional life, has come across more upsetting things than one person expressing their anger with expletives! 2. It is somewhat self-contradictory - he is basically telling the jury "the words I am not allowed to tell you, boy were they bad!" 3. Psychiatrists and Doctors should stay dispassionate. 4. The Doctors feelings are not an issue in this case. 5. Dr Spiegel does not know the full details of what is being said, the truth behind them and why. The truth of these allegations being material to the case in which he is testifying. 6. These accounts, are part of therapy so feelings, criticisms and anger should be legitimately expressed, it is not necessarily representative of his behavior in their relationship as a whole and should, for the purposes of the trial and allegations, be seen in context. A context that Dr Spiegel has very little evidence of. 7. Dr Spiegel is not there to offer literary criticism. Clearly this is bolstering his client's evidence of abuse and not a psychiatric evaluation. It was clear from Dr Spiegel's dismissal of the Goldwater rule, that he feels entitled to express his expert opinion on anything. And he makes the same mistake as Dr Dawn Hughes, who suggests that evidence of jealousy is evidence of coercive controlling behavior. (True but it could be evidence of infidelity) Taking lots of drugs could be a sign the JD is suffering from stress because he is coping with being abused. You can't chose the cause or assume it is as the cause of alleged ipv, just by statistical correlation, especially without NUMBERS. Not only is correlation not causation (see Chocolate and Nobel prizes), but even when it does indicate causation, we can't always tell which way the arrow is pointing. Dr Spiegel might be a great at everything else he does, but as an expert witness in this case, I think he has been unethical, and I hope, as the verdict has not come through at the time of writing, ineffective.
I agree. And much of what was attributed to JD sounded more like the behaviour of AH. There are videos of AH in interviews etc and she is absolutely wasted, before, during and after her relationship with Johnny. It appears she's lied about her cocaine habit.
I have a really hard time in particular with Dr Spiegel's statements on using substances to fall asleep and stay awake. It took me until I was almost thirty to find a doctor to diagnose and treat my chronic delayed sleep phase syndrome. Starting taking Nuvigil to wake up in the morning and stay awake during the day absolutely changed my life. It's the only reason I can hold down a full-time job. And I use melatonin to fall asleep every night, and have since I was 12yo. So I take it rather personally when a doctor asserts that there's necessarily something wrong with someone whose body doesn't regulate their circadian rhythm in a way that the world considers acceptable.
Well I am narcoleptic so I can’t stay asleep but I also can’t stay awake. Sometimes our bodies just don’t work right. It took me over two years to get a dr to listen to me and finally get answers. Narcolepsy causes very fragmented sleep and I was not having any restorative sleep at night and then MSLT was 95% REM.
Wow, never heard of this condition, hope you are okay now. Do you need medication or there is something else that you can do to get the sleep you need?
Unless I'm mistaken, all the alleged abusive texts from Johnny were him venting to third parties (i.e. to his friends, sister, doctor, etc. NOT texts to Amber). How is it abusive to Amber, if Amber never knew he even said those things about her until now?
I think you are correct and defence has gone down the route that if he said this to his friends what is he saying directly to her … I think it is more inferred than explicit
Also don't think its fair that Johnnies team couldn't bring up the text Amber had with Josh where he shows her a bunch of pictures of knives and says something like you don't use it on him you show it to him. If they are saying Johnny's text are abusive than that Amber text would also fall under that.
I agree with you there. I have yet to see one text where Johnny sent an abusive or vile text to Amber. Even in the audio recordings, his worst insults are miniscule compared to what she's calling him.
@@hollywoodjaded His agent said that the casting directors knew that about him already and already took that into account when hiring him. I find his agent’s testimony about this credible, because I have worked in that industry. just a note that JD has ADHD, so there are assumptions on why he is taking things that aren't correct. this witness based JD's baseline on his character from Pirates, ran on the assumption that JD was fed all his lines through his earpiece (which has testimony stating that it was music to help him hone into a character, and only occasionally lines, which isn't abnormal in Hollywood), never even talked to JD, referred to JD as an idiot, misrepresented the score on the MMSE for JD that he didn't even see, etc
In previous doctor records that were admitted, we saw he was diagnosed with ADHD. As someone with ADHD, it is so hard to stay on a regular sleep schedule without medication. Without medication, I do not get sleep. At all. With medication, I wake up groggy and need something else to help me wake up in the morning. It’s a bad cycle, but I cannot function without sleep, mentally and physically. So I can understand where Depp is coming from on the sleep front. Unable to fall asleep due to racing thoughts and anxiety and stuff takes a huge toll on mental health.
I get that some of his information is useful for general purposes, but I found him so creepy, condescending, and aggressive; that I couldn't take him seriously.
He was hugely defensive as well, and on cross-examination could rarely answer the question asked, instead trying to anticipate where they were going and launching into a rant. I found him so unprofessional, and nowhere near as intelligent as he thinks he is.
It’s financial! I’m on So many meds - Including benzos and ketamine - but I’d much rather be in a trauma/CPSTD treatment Center for a couple of years. After going through 2 zyears of intensive DBT at Harborview (yay Seattle) I realised that it would be yyyyears of intense work, not months! Given that, our only option is to dull the pain enough so that we can survive….and sometimes that means uppers and downers and sleep meds and on….and on….
In the US anyway, our mental health system sucks. Our physical health system is broken, but mental health is even worse. Even the fact that there is differentiation between the two illustrates how bad the situation is.
To me, the tone of this psychiatrist is just too aggressive. He's so certain about conclusions he's making about someone he hasn't even talked to. It's not even couched in theory or general assumptions. He's so matter-of-fact. And of course AH's legal team wants that, but I feel like you can be an expert witness, give testimony, but not inflict harm like that. Also, if I was in the jury, i wouldn't even put that much stock on the text messages. Everyone rants in text and not everything you type in anger or irritation is literal. That's kind of a reach.
Honestly when I watched this man initially I was totally confused how he could be taken seriously because he seems so unprofessional and almost... Intentionally absurd. But somehow from Dr. Honda's perspective, it's just slightly reasonable enough ... Objective anyway. Which is becoming more difficult.
He speaks common sense and people have a problem with that nowadays. They want to believe a fictional narrative of a man with a track record of initiating senseless violence being an innocent lamb. Nothing this doctor said was outrageous; these connections have been long established.

The thing is…none of those texts were sent TO Amber, so how could Johnny venting to a friend effect her? All the texts presented that are sent to her are calm
THIS THIS THIS THIS. Dr Speigel diagnosed Johnny with IPV based on texts he sent to someone else, but excuses Amber’s ACTUAL abuse based unsubstantiated and uncorroborated info from AMBER.
But suspicious on Amber Heard is understandable, considering she was cheating on him and that's the proof. She could flirt with anyone. So, as a spouse of her cannot be jealous? I think when we talk about abnormal jealousy to the point she wasn't allowed to have friends around, would make more sense to state someone is clearly controlling and jealous. I'm saying this cause I know someone in my life that is jealous for no reason, but in JD's case I cannot see it as abnormal to feel insecured and jealous for his wife that constantly involving other individuals that she potentially could flirt with.

@David Jones I’m not taking it personally. I haven’t seen any anti Johnny things. I think they are both lying about the whole situation. In my opinion, though I do think this trial is out of control in the public.
@David Jones you are proving my point telling me to get out my circle, insinuating I’m taking the trial personally, and telling me I should pay attention to that. Your saying this only because I have a different opinion than you. Dr. Honda has been very unbiased and I appreciate his take on everything. So far I pretty much see the whole think like he does.
I actually really enjoy listening to your thoughts of this trial for some reason. I like many others that watch your videos have taken notice to the many unrestrained and inconsiderate commenters that seem like they already have their minds made up before they even heard the testimonies. So it’s nice to hear the opposite from somebody out there. What I find terrifying is that it’s really hard for me to feel confident about the effectiveness of the court in a case like this where there is a lot of speculations and not a lot of concrete evidence. I wouldn’t feel good if I were the prosecutor or the defendant. I’d be interested to know how psychologists feel about the justice system and how their expertise can be beneficial and detrimental to the case.

Sooo, it’s standard therapy procedure to hear someone say that their spouse is PHYSICALLY abusing them, and the therapist just gives them some conflict resolution strategies…? 😒 Maybe this trial is teaching us some things we ought to have already known about the world of psychology.

I get frustrated that I can't function without sleeping pills, I try stopping using them for some periods but I just can't sleep. It's a double edge sword.
Amber drank 2 bottles of wine a night and made numerous references to frequent substance abuse with drugs as well. Everything the psychiatrist is saying also applies to her, and there is more evidence to support her abusive behaviour.
Mr Psychology in Seattle is willfully ignoring all of that. Also, willfully ignoring Johnny Depp having ADHD and those symptoms when taking this testimony into account.
@@krisr3612 I think dr. Honda doesn't know that Depp has ADHD. It hasn't been stated in the trial, so if he doesn't do research outside of that, he will never know.
@@SicYennefer Yes it has been stated repeatedly and Mr Psychology in Seattle said that the he had already viewed all of Johnny DEPP'S testimony and his witnesses. He also admitted to knowing that Depp had ADHD in the part 2 of his Dr Spiegel testimony. There really is no excuse for his ignorance and failure to take his ADHD symptoms into account when Dr Spiegel used his inattentiveness and other ADHD symptoms to claim brain damage and Narcissistic Personality Disorder. This Mr Psychology in Seattle really has little to offer in his commentary here. His only value appears to be as an "expert" witness for Amber Heard as he is either incredibly ignorant or biased.
@@krisr3612 to be fair, Spiegel never said that Depp has NPD, he only talked about traits. Narcissism =/= NPD. I'm in the middle of this video, so maybe I'm yet to hear dr. Honda's statement about ADHD. Of course, you're right that he should take it into account! I was really upset myself that he didn't, but I just assumed he didn't know that 🤷🏻♀️
Dr. H, I wanted to mention my take away from Amber's testimony things that stood out to me when she spoke on the abuse ... In my mind abuse in the context of relation is sequential and escalating with in one episode and too over the continuation of a relationship .. and I think why ppl believe Amber is being untruthful, is because every boy who has ever been in a playground fight, every person who has ever witnessed a violent altercations and even most bar type fights ... the violence even in these isolated instances start with verbal altercations and then escalate to physical violence .. (yes sometimes in bars with both ppl drinking someone gets bumped and the fight starts, but that is still far less common then most ppl would think) and this is mimicked in the context of relationships between partners between children and parents and in the context of family etc. Where there is physical abuse .. emotional and verbal abuse exists (sometimes abuse victims reporting physical abuse, don't even realize they are being emotionally abused too) and to my mind emotional and verbal abuse always come first, because the physical abuse is the physical manifestation of the emotional and verbal abuse that already existed. But Amber never speaks about any ongoing significant emotional or verbal abuse by Johnny (now every one has bad days.. in conflict we all have times we have said something harsh we didn't mean and Amber mentions occasions of this ilk) but there are no examples of Johnny trying to impose his reality onto AH things of that kind of a predatory or devaluing nature .. and for AH, the significant focus is on and about the physical abuse ... but do you see for Johnny he hardly talks about the physical abuse .. its the emotional abuse he can't get past ... and this makes sense because as bad as physical abuse can be, your body heals you get past it ... but emotional abuse to me is far far more harmful it attacks the person and it attacks their reality ... this is especially true with children, those wounds hide inside us, go unseen by the world and fester inside a person. It is an attack on how they see themselves and how they see themselves in relation to the world at large. So in Amber's testimony that sequence is missing from Emotional/Verbal abuse to physical abuse. At its core abuse is about trying to subjugate another .. the person abusing is doing so, because, due to their own insecurities they have contrived this false reality in their own mind, where they are better, more special then other people, the abuse is a way of devaluing the victim in their own minds and making the victim conform to this false reality. This is why they feel continually victimized, because of course the world pushes back on this false construct all the time .. because they are not little demi-gods, this is a lie...they live in a false reality of their own making. So the abuser pushes back when this false reality is challenged .. and this is of course is why these types of abuses are always inflicted on the ppl closest to the abuser ... its the whole Steven Covey thing and the circle of influence we all have .. it starts with those closest to the abuser, because they are the ppl the abusers have the most influence over. The nature of it is counter intuitive .. the abuser attacks the people who love them the most, the ppl who have the abuser's back the most .. its counter intuitive .. but makes sense when you understand, they first attempt to impose this false reality where they have the most influence. So, in the context of a couples relationship ... ones significant other, things escalate from emotional and verbal abuse to physical abuse, when the emotional and verbal abuse have begun to stop working or have never worked ... and this sequence of abuse is clearly represented in JD's testimony. But not in Amber's she doesn't speak to it hardly, if at all .. where as Johnny can't get past the emotional abuse he struggles to understand it (b/c its so counter intuitive, it doesn't make sense to rational ppl) when she speaks of verbal or emotional things its vague and undefined.. she speaks of instances of bad behavior by JD and most of the time its just that, bad behavior not directed at her or anyone. That was my first point Lol sorry .. I'll try to make the second point not so long so the second point is when she speaks to JD being controlling wanting to know where she is, where she is going etc. and being stalker-ish like JD showing up on her sets etc. Now this determination is obviously very subjective in nature.. JD's intent could have easily been to be supportive or it could have been about control ... so what tells us the truth? What I found most significant, is that AH speaks to JD showing up on sets supposedly hoovering etc.... but not at all to the flip side of that coin ... because where the one is present the flip side would show up too and to my mind it is the more damaging of the two, and would be the most noted type of emotional abuse ... and that's JD forcing Amber to go with him places, to attend to him, to force her to comply to his agenda.. like his own personal worshiper... and that type of control can take on a very Machiavellian, Omnipresent tone .... and its completely absent in Amber's testimony ... and one simply does not exist without the other, because the same frame of mind that makes the one happen, can not help but manifest the other, the flip side of the coin. Hoovering would happen in both instances, and if it only happens in one, well to me it suggests perhaps a contrivance brought about because it is the one side of the coin most popularly known by the general public. I know you know all these things Dr H .... just checking if your paying attention Lol :) I'm not claiming I'm right or that I know anything... these were things that stood out to me that's all.
I haven’t really followed the trial except for watching this series, but I loved this comment, because it helped me to understand my own abuse by my husband who has NPD. I can’t really speak to who is the abuser in the trial, but it’s been kind of triggering to think about “well who is the abuser?” Or “they both are abusive.” Bc my abuser said that too, even though I knew I wasn’t the abusive one. You put into words exactly what I knew in my heart about myself, so that was really validating. Thanks for taking the time to write this!

The adderol-related opinions completely left out Johnny Depp's ADHD diagnosis which even Dr. Spiegel said would explain both the type and dosage of adderol. I'm more inclined to believe that the Dr. just missed this diagnosis, which to me just highlights the importance of having complete appropriate data sources to analyze and an actual interview/evaluation before delivering these professional opinions. The ADHD would also fit into the doodling in court and the music in his earpiece. Not an MD but this guy seemed like the most obvious hired gun expert of the trial.
Yeah, I have ADHD and I have to doodle like that when absorbing a lot of verbal information - my brain will just switch off if I don't And I've used music to control my mood and mode, so I can buy that too
There must be a reason the ADHD didn't come in because Depp's team could have mentioned it on cross. Likely they decided to keep it out because they feel it is better for some reason. I do have to say, as a working professional who was only diagnosed as an adult and who spent years having ADHD symptoms criticized as personal failings, the implication that his doodling or candy-eating was in any way a sign of a personality disorder was HIGHLY offensive to me.
@@fionarangel9486 Yup, I had people accuse me of sleeping through university classes but in reality, if the lecture was entirely verbal, the best option for me to actually listen and process was to remove any other stimulus by closing my eyes and resting my head on my desk. I see it as recognising he’s human and had reached a tipping point after repeated and often extreme abuse. You are so sheltered to be so judgmental of the standard he descended to in the circumstances
I just don't think it's fair to judge him by texts which the context was him venting to his friends. He basically was a wreck during the relationship, saying that he actually doesn't want to get married. In every voice recordings with her he seemed okay aside from the cabinets which he didn't even touch Heard (this is probably why the recording was the one got sent to paparazzi). The guy has a habit of running away in every heated arguments. Those texts are horrendous, people that defends him know that already. But there's a difference between saying you gonna kill someone out of frustration vs you actually going to do it.
Agreed, they're misogynistic and violent texts, and I'm tired of them being excused and explained-away. Venting or being angry is no good excuse - one can vent and be angry without being misogynistic and violent (in language or action).
I normally appreciate Dr. Honda’s reaction videos but seeing him react to people testify in this case has been very problematic and unnerving for me only because he seems to be reacting to narrative that has never been backed by the evidence in this case, for example when he refers to Johnny Depp being abusive to Amber Heard in text messages, which have never been provided in this case…In fact all of the text messages that have been entered as evidenced in this case have been redacted and are missing a lot of context. It’s very obvious that Johnny Depp has an uncommon way of speaking and a darker sense of humor (which isn’t criminal) and to see professionals like lawyers and doctors exploit Depp’s text messages and use them as evidence for abuse is very mind boggling and shows why people don’t trust America’s legal systems! “I have other uses for your throat which do not include injury” is a reference to oral *** not violence….smh
They also weren't sent to her. They were sent to his friends. Just thinking back of the text messages myself & my friends have sent if one of us has split up with an ex. Would I want ours to be read out in court. Hell no. You go through a grief process sometimes when a relationship breaks down & one of those stages is anger.
@@karysroberts9008 Exactly. My humor is darker than the grave, and when I get upset I will fantasize about calling a hitman on people who hurt me. It's self ironic (look at me, I'm kind of ridiculous for getting this angry, laugh with me about it so I can calm down) more than hostile.
It's funny re prescriptions. Doctors are often very poor at communicating about stopping medication. So I personally have had to choose to titrate something down and stop it after being prescribed new medication when the Doctor has been wishy-washy in discussing whether the new meds are supposed to be taken in concert with previous ones. I'd be interested to know how often those prescriptions were being filled, rather than just how many were on his record.
This bit has to do with my job and I can say the type of cut he got would make more sense as an accident (e.g. he was cutting something and also cut his finger in the process or he was smashing a bottle). Could he self-inflict it? Yes, but typically this is uncommon self-injury and it is strange for someone to sever a whole bit off their body. Except if in anger he smashed the bottle on his finger. Could it be because someone threw a bottle at him? Any other type of injury would make more sense than this. For something that fell from a distance, this was too precise, too forceful, and involved only one small part of the body while not affecting others. Except if she was next to him and she smashed the bottle on his finger. It feels very improbable injury. Is it though impossible? No, freaky things happen especially when attacks occur. This is why we should not attack others!
ennifer Howell testified that Amber's sister Whitney told the entire museum office that Amber cut Johnny's finger off. Amber even told her acting coach that she saw Johnny cut his finger off with a bottle, but then she changed her story to "he cut it off by punching a phone into the wall," to "I never saw him cut it off, I was upstairs." The fact that Amber's story is so inconsistent and she herself can be heard crying "I didn't mean to!" in the Australia recordings, and Whitney herself privately admitted Amber did it, I highly doubt Johnny cut his own finger off.

Wait- I’m confused. I have multiple sclerosis and I was on gabapentin for nerve pain in my arm during an episode and I was told it’s a pain med that specifically targets nerve pain and doesn’t act like an opioid… when I took it I never felt any kind of “high”, and I can compare it as I was on hydrocodone once after a surgery. DEFINITELY can see that being addicting, my dad had to throw the extra pills out for me. Maybe it was just that I was in so much nerve pain I didn’t feel it? Idk but that bit confused me
I've been on gabapentin for YEARS along with vicoden (now percoset). The gabapentin for fibromyalgia and the percs for ruptured discs and spondalosis. I can attest that gabapentin has NO street value and does not act like any kind of opiate. This Dr has no idea what he is talking about.
Whats is your question? Are you thinking that gabapentin is an opiate? It is not. It is often used for nerve pain. Its in a class of med call anticonvulsants.. but is used for different issues.
I had to take gabapentin for a nerve issue causing a chronic cough and I NEVER felt any kind of high either. I had some of the milder, annoying side effects that went away after a week or two but nothing like any kind of high. That wasn't even on the warning label. Weird.
I think he means the gaba has a calming affect, somewhat like an opiate but it doesn't interact in the same places as the brain as an opiate so therefore is a different class of drugs.
Gabapentin alone does not act like an opioid. What this guy is staying, is the combination of gabapentin with certain medications, like Seroquel or Xanax, can increase certain side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, impaired cognitive ability. Further combination with opioids or alcohol causes higher interactions with gabapentin and have additive CNS side effects. Some drug abusers will use gabapentin in combination with those other meds to enhance whatever effects they want to experience.
I think his relationship with amber heard caused his usage to increase...I've had similar experience in my life where I can take really good care of myself but when I get close to toxic people it's a coping mechanism when you haven't learned how to have boundaries with these people, and I just say this because amber uses his drug use as a way of appearing like his angel and also as a way of making all of the problems in the relationship his fault. If he didn't use drugs he probably wouldn't have ended up with her at all.

There is a video of when Johnny's finger was cut off. He called for help and Amber was running around out of control crying that she didn't mean to do it and they had to medicate her. It was some crazy chaos which seems to be what follows Amber everywhere she goes. She seems to thrive on it.
There’s a disturbing aspect to this incident which is rarely mentioned. Depp texted to Kipper that he “cut off his finger, to remind himself not to cut off any of the others.” This speaks to the cutting behavior. Exists in evidence is a text (or email), which Kipper read aloud during his deposition. However, the revelation from Depp to Kipper continued. He wrote, after cutting his finger, that he “walked into a bar on Sunset and killed three N€gr0s.” This was not venting per se. It was not about Amber. It was r@cist. It was a clear h0mi.cid@l ideation.
If a person begs a partner for more drugs and they finally give them to give it to them, thinking they are helping, and it kills them, isn't the person involved held responsible?
Great question! I hadn't thought about it, maybe it qualifies as manslaughter? Anyway, that's why they always had a doctor (the infamous Dr. Kipper) who was charging them over $100K/month and traveling with them so that he could make those calls. I find him very sus and irresponsible.
Johnny Depp is right handed. I would suspect if the smashing of the bottle was done by himself to himself, he would have severed a finger on his left hand. Same as AH's "bruise" when she was photographed by TMZ was on the right side of her face. Should have been on the left, since he's right handed.
I love your videos and you have shown me how to be more differentiated. I appreciate you being neutral (very little people on the internet are on this topic), but there is something about Dr. Spiegel that does not sit right with me. Maybe he just isn't my cup of tea.
Yeah, it'll be interesting when Dr. Honda gets to the point that, not only does Heard's team argue 3 different ways that injury occurred, Dr. Spiegel based his assumptions on the least supported story of intentionally cutting it off with a knife.
Also, I have noticed that Mr. Depp’s non-expert witnesses have a lot of personality and his expert witnesses are pretty button-down /professional whereas with Ms. Heard it seems the opposite.
The hours he was working and going home to a hostile environment, could contribute to his inability to fall asleep and fall asleep at odd times. The lifestyle contributed to all this. He needs a real break.
She doesn’t say he used a bottle but rather that he cut it when he pulled a phone off the wall and smashed it to bits. Something he has basically admitted to already. Then the Dr is referring to texts sent by Depp where he says he cut it off himself.
She told her acting coach that he sliced it off with a vodka bottle. There's an audio when Depps team show up at the house and Amber is sniffeling saying how she is sorry and didn't mean to do it.
"I cut my finger off" is like saying "I broke my leg" - it's not literal. Also, Amber actually DID tell her acting coach that she saw Johnny cut his finger off with a bottle, then changed her story to saying she saw him cut it off by punching a phone into the wall, to finally saying, "I never saw it, I was upstairs." Jennifer Howell also testified that Whitney (Amber' sister) told the entire museum office that Amber cut Johnny's finger off. While I agree with the objectivity expressed, it is difficult to like the venom expressed in this intimate relationship by AH. and yes, i agree that there is very damning evidence against AH, i also find is hard to believe that anyone who has gone in to that level of specificity when listing the abuse accounts is lying. i feel like a liar would probably be a little bit more vague or try to exaggerate what actually occurred. maybe that is happening and maybe it is not but i appreciate people who can talk about their professional opinions on the topic without choosing a side. it makes it possible for people like me to understand the accusations and explain some of the behaviors that are being accused.

Very good point. However, he is recorded calling her a fatass and nothing but a hitting the wall soon stripper. He wasn't nice.
@Miss Manawaka I agree that there's a huge double standard in how Amber is judged vs. how Johnny is.

Some are required by law to go for treatment for parole, but not every one change their behavior as result of treatment.
Kudos to you on your work =)
You think these things aren't talked about? Lmao what
@@TannerisSmol97 Yeah, the argument is that discussions about what depression, abuse, mental illness, IPV, etc. actually are and what they look like are generally poor because (1) these are topics that still have a ton of stigmas surrounding them, making first person interactions on these topics sparse since no one wants to "admit" to them, and (2) because of this, the public discussions have traditionally been poor in terms of content, which means a lot of people have opinions based on faulty information and then share them their incorrect intuitions, compounding the problem. Not sure in what context you live in that makes you think these topics have adequate representation in the public discourse.

But it is against the profession to diagnose a person without actually seeing the person right?

6:33 "I have no problem with people being angry" ... "was very uncomfortable for me to read"
This is professional expert witness from a Psychiatrist???
1. I don't believe it, surely Dr Spiegel, in his professional life, has come across more upsetting things than one person expressing their anger with expletives!
2. It is somewhat self-contradictory - he is basically telling the jury "the words I am not allowed to tell you, boy were they bad!"
(True but it could be evidence of infidelity)
Taking lots of drugs could be a sign the JD is suffering from stress because he is coping with being abused.
@@underthegardenwall Also it was stated that he calls everyone a cunt that is just the way he writes. It started losing the shock factor pretty fast.

@@hollywoodjaded His agent said that the casting directors knew that about him already and already took that into account when hiring him.
I find his agent’s testimony about this credible, because I have worked in that industry. The tardiness usually cost production companies a lot ,because the crews & background extras work in an hourly basis, so what they’d do is consider the main actor’s tardiness into the budget.
just a note that JD has ADHD, so there are assumptions on why he is taking things that aren't correct. this witness based JD's baseline on his character from Pirates, ran on the assumption that JD was fed all his lines through his earpiece (which has testimony stating that it was music to help him hone into a character, and only occasionally lines, which isn't abnormal in Hollywood), never even talked to JD, referred to JD as an idiot, misrepresented the score on the MMSE for JD that he didn't even see, etc
I hope you know your commentary on this is the only commentary I care about
In previous doctor records that were admitted, we saw he was diagnosed with ADHD.
The jury can fill in the blanks. They’ve heard and seen the texts.
I get that some of his information is useful for general purposes, but I found him so creepy, condescending, and aggressive; that I couldn't take him seriously.
It’s hard to get past his voice, deep loud inhales, overall speech and delivery. I couldn’t imagine being in a therapeutic environment with him.
He was hugely defensive as well, and on cross-examination could rarely answer the question asked, instead trying to anticipate where they were going and launching into a rant. I found him so unprofessional, and nowhere near as intelligent as he thinks he is.
Question.. why was he talking about street credit versus Johnny's prescribed drugs?!?!
What relevance was that?
Probably trying to lead people to the conclusion that if it has street value, it is widely abused.
I don't think Spiegel ever gave a good answer to that one.
I like it when you call people a “jerkface”. It’s such an old school insult lol 😆
Such a wholesome insult, too, lol.
@@RenayOpish I’m in the US. Yes it’s 😢

If your alleged abuser is being taught how to gaslight you by a therapist that would probably piss me off as well
Honestly when I watched this man initially I was totally confused how he could be taken seriously because he seems so unprofessional and almost...

@@SoLongMarianne_ I work in academic medicine, and I wholeheartedly disagree. This is not how well educated, intelligent professionals behave when challenged. It’s just not.

Things always seem harsher in text too. Its better to never engage in conflict via text it only amplifies things.

I'll try to make the second point not so long
so the second point is when she speaks to JD being controlling wanting to know where she is, where she is going etc. and being stalker-ish like JD showing up on her sets etc.
I know you know all these things Dr H .... just checking if your paying attention Lol :)
I'm not claiming I'm right or that I know anything... these were things that stood out to me that's all.

Yeah, I have ADHD and I have to doodle like that when absorbing a lot of verbal information - my brain will just switch off if I don't

@@GroovyFeminist He didn’t write it. If you look at the text it says it’s incoming not outgoing which means it was a text he received not one he sent.
Amber even told her acting coach that she saw Johnny cut his finger off with a bottle, but then she changed her story to "he cut it off by punching a phone into the wall," to "I never saw him cut it off, I was upstairs."
The fact that Amber's story is so inconsistent and she herself can be heard crying "I didn't mean to!" in the Australia recordings, and Whitney herself privately admitted Amber did it, I highly doubt Johnny cut his own finger off.

There’s a disturbing aspect to this incident which is rarely mentioned. Depp texted to Kipper that he “cut off his finger, to remind himself not to cut off any of the others.”
This speaks to the cutting behavior. Exists in evidence is a text (or email), which Kipper read aloud during his deposition.
However, the revelation from Depp to Kipper continued. He wrote, after cutting his finger, that he “walked into a bar on Sunset and killed three N€gr0s.”
This was not venting per se. It was not about Amber. It was r@cist. It was a clear h0mi.cid@l ideation.
Most of the experts about his finger said it was a velocity injury, not blunt force. So unlikely he would have been able to do it himself.
They can be. There have been manslaughter charges brought against people who have done things like this.
I stopped watching him when he started saying Johnny Depp is a narc. I’m like ok buddy.
And an idiot 😅
Yeah. Without ever talking to him. I did not like that AT ALL
@@cphcardslinger6871 Like we are in serious trouble if someone like him is a narc. Just the way he speaks, he is too thoughtful to be a narc.
This guy was a complete quack. He diagnosed Capt Jack Sparrow, not Johnny Depp.
I really appreciated the cross on this guy.
27:58 this is interesting, can't wait to see his reaction to Amber's testimony about that incident.
Yeah, it'll be interesting when Dr. Honda gets to the point that, not only does Heard's team argue 3 different ways that injury occurred, Dr. Spiegel based his assumptions on the least supported story of intentionally cutting it off with a knife.
Anticipating this one 🤞 lol
Also, I have noticed that Mr. Depp’s non-expert witnesses have a lot of personality and his expert witnesses are pretty button-down /professional whereas with Ms. Heard it seems the opposite.
The hours he was working and going home to a hostile environment, could contribute to his inability to fall asleep and fall asleep at odd times. The lifestyle contributed to all this. He needs a real break.
Lmao gabapentin has street value? I would beg to differ. I get gabapentin for RLS and this is very surprising news to me
She doesn’t say he used a bottle but rather that he cut it when he pulled a phone off the wall and smashed it to bits.
AND you can hear Amber crying "I didn't mean to do it!" in the Australia recording. I think it's pretty clear who cut Johnny's finger off.
@@underthegardenwall it's really not. This figure of speech is only used when done by the subject and an inanimate object. Nobody says "I fell" when pushed, nobody says "I punched myself" when somebody punches you, or "I slapped myself", or "I stabbed myself". Be serious
@@sweetjeopardy1204 For real? If my partner pushed me down the stairs or cut my finger off, and an acquaintance asked me what happened, yet I don't want to talk about the graphic specifics, I'd say, "I fell" or "I cut my finger off." It's not only embarrassing to tell people my partner was the one who did that to me, I'd also want to protect my partner's image. So why would you think that Johnny WOULDN'T say that he cut his own finger?
Also, it's pretty impossible to "punch" oneself, hence why you don't hear anyone say that. Your example is not like the others.
I KNOW you would have that look when he says abuser won't come to therapy. I just *know*. lol
I watched a couple of legal commenters live steamers and they all thought that he was a terrible expert witness. Your reaction to him completely justified. :)
I think majority can agree we want more reactions of this doctor
