I've mentioned variations of this story before but I met Randy in the summer of '78 outside a restaurant in a small Nova Scotia town. He was my hero. I was only 17 and terrified of the "Macho Man". He was super friendly, soft spoken, and not at all like his character. He signed an autograph, I got to look into his van and see all the incredible robes he used to wear during his Atlantic grand prix wrestling days and he shook my hand. My greatest celebrity thrill. There was an older man travelling with him but I didn't find out who he was. Rest in peace Macho!
It might have been his dad! He was also in the business as well.
That’s so crazy, I believe you 100% but it’s just in such stark contrast to the horror stories you hear from fans in his later years. Sam Roberts of Jim and Sam on SiriusXM told a story he had overheard at a wrestling convention years ago like the 00’s decade, and he hears of 2 fans who were like 10-11 years old who found out that Macho lived in their neighborhood a few streets over. They go over there grinning from ear to ear with one even wearing a macho man shirt I believe just to show their big fans. They go to know on his door and he had some home security and he told them to go away, they said they were huge fans and were excited to find out their neighbors and really just wanted to say hi. Macho responded with threading to bring out a shotgun if they didn’t leave his property. Life takes you in many directions.
Yeah I think it was his father Angelo he loved him and Angelo went everywhere with his dad
@@jodythomas4324 Appreciated. Would love to have met him again but it didn't happen. During that time my second favourite wrestler was Leaping Lanny. I didn't know until only ten years ago that they were brothers.
I remember his brother wrestled for Atlantic Grand Prix at that time as Leaping Lanny Poffo.
As an 80s kid Macho Man and Ms Elizabeth was the greatest love story ever told.
He mentally and physically kicked her ass in real life. No love story there bud. Your hero was a cock
Wasn’t it Luger who did that ??
Yeah
Love story? Locking her in dressing rooms… doesn’t sound like much of a love story…
Still is, until Hogan always stealing the spotlight.
Macho Man is BY FAR the coolest wrestler of all time.
By far.... Randy Savage is the greatest.
They should have pushed savage instead of the warrior in the early 90s. Randy has the best combination of in ring ability and mic skills ever and paired with Liz as his manager he’s my favorite wrestler ever!
Warrior was my favorite and in them days as a little kid born in 1980 i was able to tell who was who... all the political shit is just that.. savage was top tier and had his title matches.. he had the title... so what push are we talking about? Oh wait! You mean the hulk hogan title i guess. Like the status rhat hulk had maybe? Well that is just something alittle extra special but really all the greats were Pretty much just under that hulk level an it doesn't matter all that much. Relax macho is an icon!
The fans pushed Warrior. He had a look and character that was perfect for its time. Today, Savage would be the one and I think people look back at the 80’s through 2020 glasses
Yup
MachoMan made the title, the title didn’t make MachoMan. His run was like cocaine intense, 1000 miles an hour, and a hell of a dangerous run.
Sorry brother but agree to disagree. Warrior was the future. Rip macho and warrior
"He was good enough to overcome it, and I was good enough to work with him to overcome it." God I love Tonk.
HTM was a mid wrestler come on man you were where you were supposed to be.
Htm is awesome though he seems like a really good person and Elvis is cool as hell too😎
He understood that he wasn't anything special, but he knew how to work well with great talent. That's a talent in its own.
I always heard Randy had a good Heart. He kept me wanting to be that Tough Guy. RIP Macho Man 🙏, and thanks ✊
Absolutely! Hogan was cool, but too vanilla, nobody compares to The Macho Man! Dig it!
I was aging out of wrestling in the '80s when I saw Macho do a promo with Mean Gene. He was talking about cleaning up the WWF and he took out a bar of soap and stuck it on Okerlund's jacket pocket. "There now, Mean Gene. Isn't that nice." In that quintessential Macho voice. And I thought, this guy is going places ... and he did.
Randy was a legend and inspired many people during his time on this earth . Say what you want about him but hes an icon and always will be
In the ring , yes. But in life and who he was, he was self centered. That’s why him n Hogan didn’t get along. Too much alpha
@Trouser Troll i read it in randys voice. Thanks to make me that impression
@@tec1027 so only Randy to blame for that and Hogan gets a pass? Got ya
anwjuice nah. They both were to blame. Two alphas can’t run a pack.
He was WAAAAAAY better than Hulk!!!!!
Sid rippin on dean malenko lmfao.... his interviews are gold
Miss Elizabeth was a 10 & naturally beautiful, unlike the majority of the Divas in WWF/WWE's history
and an alco and drug addict
Best promo ever " the cream rises to the top "
@@FactsoftheMatters that's your opinion cube, and that's all it is
Cup a coffee yeah..........Cup a coffee in the big time yeah!
im the cream of the crop ..yeah. The cream yeah .
Unjustifiably in a position I'd rather not be in
Honkey Tonk is a real stand up guy! 👍🏾
From *New Zealand* ☝🏾🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿
He is a lying idiot.
HTM is one of the greatest of all time!
Macho had the best ring attire it was colorful and he stood out
Best ring attire goes to Honky Tonk Man!!
Wow ur observant
Sorta like the Liberace of Wrestling...
Plus he had the best voice for promos
Macho vs. Ricky the Dragon Steamboat. That was the rivalry that got me interested in wrestling.
Them and George the Animal Steele and Big John Stud
And the match that set the bar and the gold standard for WRESTLEMANIA matches. Especially WRESTLEMANIA 3
Saw macho king vs the warrior. Steel cage back in 1991 week after the rumble. I was 7 in omaha.
Me too. I'm in Knoxville Tennessee now. I was 9.
Civic auditorium, yeah
I saw that in Austin in 91 as well.
Excellent. I feel like I learned more of substance about Savage from this video than I did from reading a half dozen articles.
I m 40 years old Macho Man Randy Savage is for me one of the greatest wrestler of all time and everyone from the 80 and 90 to make my childhood on tv every evening a happy watching guy will never forget to All was gone but not forgotten RIP and for everyone is still alive stay healthy lucky still be there never will forget the time never
Bill Dundee talking about Macho being goofy with a UFO behind his head
yeah but that ending story of pulling a .38 after Macho suckered punched him was sweet! That's two scorpios for you.
How’s that goofy ?
LOL at Sid and Hannibal burying boring Dean Malenko. 😂🤣 That was great.
Haters straight up bullish!t malenko is a legend hands down
@@irishhemmingsen2761 Zzzzzzzzzzz
@@irishhemmingsen2761 zzzzzzzzz! I was upset he became a Horseman. The late additions were rough.
Macho Man without a doubt said what you could say one of the best of all time and a certified legend
Sub for Trump 2020 sad thing is she died of a drug overdose. Bet you if Randy was around he’d whoop your ass.
Macho man was always one of my very favorite wrestlers and he cleaned up with those Slim Jim commercial He’s just as well known for those commercials as he ever was as a wrestler💯
I might have been around kindergarten age when my Granddaddy took me and my cousin to see the wrestling match at the fire hall in Crowder,Ms. Randy wrestled Jerry Lawler and I remember thinking he was the biggest and scariest fella I had ever seen. They got out of the ring and started chasing each other around the building, and when he ran towards us I ran out to the parking lot. Granddaddy talked about that till the day he died and we would laugh so much about how crazy he was.
does anyone else say to themselves, "yep, that's what I thought Greg 'The Hammer' Valentine would look like when he gets older..."?
@Billyclub Clark Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler looks like The Hammer in 1989.... and 1999, and 2009, and 2019.
He looks like Mama Fratelli's younger sister
Hahaha I said the same thing on another vid.. although I said he looks like Mama herself
One of the Legends. Charisma through the roof. In ring skill and showmanship was on another level. Rest easy Macho Man
He should be after stopping the rapture
They need a movie about macho man’s life with these stories
The Wafflehouse Story @ 8:33 Had Me absolutely Fucking Dying. His Impression of Randy Savage saying "Who Gives a Fuck??" in His Macho Man Voice was Completely & Totally Hilarious!!
I’m just laughing at the scenario of the dogs attacking Randy. I don’t know it just cracks me up.
Macho Man also a certified icon
Beefcake back in the employee break room at Walmart. Interview was during his smoke break before he had to go get the carts.
Lmao omg that was good
hahaha
Bubbles is on carts
Looks more like a prison gymnasium
Imagine Savage and Hawk ready to fight when their music is playing about to hit the ring.
Gotta say Wayne started off a bit rough with his shoot interviews but I honestly love hearing him have positive memories of a really entertaining era.
Man, I just want to tell him to smile, people love him and he had a great run. Glad to see him talk nicely about someone.
Listen, why don't you watch Randy on the mic, his promos are some of the best you'll ever hear. The man was a genius.. No pun intended for the guy who played the genius.
HyperActive7 lol you meany his brother Lanny. Randy was one of the best on the mike and was amazing in the ring. And on “The Genius” I guess it was well known in the lockers that he could suck his own unit. That’s his claim to fame
RIP ROGERS - Randy taught me how to answer a phone. " HELLO "
Waffle House story is classic. I heard King Kong Bundy say Macho Man used to shoplift when he was the champ.
As I grew up i learned to respect the macho man.. he did all the right things even to protect mrs. Elizabeth but he cant always lock her down.. but the animals got to her and started her life going downward.
Hold on too hard, and it’s inevitable. You make a person a buried treasure, somebody is gonna try to claim it.
This is the best I’ve heard any of the guys talked about.
Randy was the 🐐 truly missed 👑
Macho man was a good baseball player too! But if you're here you already know
Thanks for the video, THE HANNIBAL TV
As much of a bonkers possessive weirdo as Macho was, knowing what the wresling locker room was like I don't know I can totally blame him especially now that we're hearing about a lot of the messed up stuff that they used to do back then.
Its just amazing how all these wrestler's are so down to earth and nice and human unlike their on stage personas
Dutch, what a great storyteller.
I grew up on Saturday morning wrestling out of Memphis. The Dutchman was always a fav of mine. Made a great heel and baby face. His feud with Jerry Lawler was much watch TV.
Randy Savage, one of the most talented wrestlers ever, he had great matches, but he was also crazy as a loon.
It was all that cream rising to the top!
Steroids destroyed his brain
Everytime I see ronnie garvin that image of him sticking out his tongue and thumbs in the ears making faces at greg the hammer valentine always comes to mind. Rofl
Haha, classic Rubbish Ronnie Garbage. (no hate)
Elmonator #GarvinforHOF. Because it was acceptable in the 80’s.
Come on now that's my wrestler.
Macho Man is an ICON!
Randy was the real deal back then, a bit psychotic but the real deal.
'A bit'
The real-life relationship between Randy and Elizabeth was amazing. Everything that was a work was a shoot.
Yea
I like how Sonny Onoo has both a Japanese and American southern accent at the same time.
Macho man was in StLouis Cardinals farm system. He was a legit athlete. 2nd generation wrestler too so he took the character into real life and he was great at his job. Times for women were different then, maybe women should whine like others these days because they was treated bad back then but Randy was a great entertainer. No one knows him personally so don't act like you know how he was off camera
Road Warrior Animal on Macho Man vs Hawk Fight: ua-cam.com/video/KCUjr8-VD4I/v-deo.html
Ravishing Rick Rude was one of the greatest bad guys of all time Razor Ramon was great too both should have been pushed harder same as Mr.Perfect
WrestleMania 10 said it all and Curt Hennig was the same caliber as Brett Hart noone can deny that and Rick Rude was just great on the mic and in the ring performer all should have worn the strap in my opinion
@ShadowAngel
I thought English begins with an "E". Maybe you should take your own advice.
THE HANNIBAL TV .
That's funny. Beefcake calls Savage a good hand 😂😂😂. No Mr. Beefcake you were a good hand, Savage was a Superstar.
So true. Wouldnt be nothing but a bodybuilder wothout being hulk hogans boyfriend... Opps best friend...
I remember Brutus was destined for something great prior to his boating accident.
Is he in prison being interviewed lol?
Idk why beefcake thinks he's so damn special
Someone filled his head
We as kids could care less about the British bulldogs
Road warriors was the top.dogs even though they were in nwa at the time
@@kevinosborne938 How much less could you care?
My family immigrated from Ireland at the tail end of the troubles. Upon arrival we attempted to participate in "all American" activities baseball and wrestling were the first events I ever attended. We went to see WWF in Philly, Randy was on the card, my father and his 8 children were basically the crowd at ringside, there were hundreds of people and we were the rowdiest in the bunch. Four hours after the event, in the parking lot, standing next to our station wagon this crazy man shouts " hey you kid's" we all turned an it was the Savage One. He stormed up and asked my father " are these your kids" my father nodded. " Well you better watch where you take these little animals, cuz' brother they don't act right" my father laughed he laughed, told us we were nuts and good little solders, he picked on my dad for being a stereotypical Irish man with 8 kid's, it was great. He talked a lot one thing I remember is he commented on our accents but told us we we're welcome and we were Americans now, I loved that guy
Now that’s a story, a wild one that savage!
This guy is a great shoot interview. Who would have thought.
If this video was muted, I would swear the video was about funky wallpaper
😆
Knobs is pissed again 😂
@@muhyee294 Nah dude, cut them some slack. They did their hard time in the ring and on the road before wrestling was glorified like it is today. These guys are all bad asses and they picked a career that was hard on them. Back in the day they weren't babied like they are today. They worked hard and played hard. Most of the old school guys got into real fights, not just with each other but with "fans" in the bars and restaurants. Most of them did time in jail too, they were the real deal. Knobs doesn't look good at all but how would you look walking around in pain 24-7? Drinking is the only thing he's prob any good at nowadays. Who's going to hire him? He paid his dues and early in his wrestling career the dude was awesome and a tough guy. Respect the older wrestlers because very soon like they'll all be gone. The wrestlers of today are a bunch of Hollywood actors, not real wrestlers like we had back in the day.
There aint gonna be another Randy Macho Man
Like with most of the big names back then. Compared to nowadays, they all replacable
Mr Eblow Drop best in the biz Macho Man Randy Savage
One of the best workers ever (along with Benoit, Hennig, Rude, maybe a handful of others). I really didn't appreciate his raw talent with how larger-than-life his persona was... his antics seemed to overshadow how skilled he really was. I saw an old pre-WWF match of his a while back and I was amazed how much energy he brought to the performance. He could sell his moves so well, and put somebody else over, as well (which is the mark of any truly great wrestler).
Imagine how good wrestling would have been if they pushed Rude and Henning vs Hart
I sure would have liked seeing Sid wrestle in real life....and Randy too
I seen Sid wrestle once for WWF. As he entered the Erie Civic center, my younger sister said " OMG he's got a boner!" Some words in life are hard to forget. No pun intended. 😂
The fart heard around the world happened on the set of "The princess Bride" and It was Andre the Giant ripping it.... It was LEGENDARY! My dad was on the set when he did it. I am NOT making this up.
Randy getting pissed over liz taking a fart is hilarious.
Macho is the Goat!
No, Hulk is
Timothy Robinson OOOHHHH YEEAAAHHH!
Agreed
Wrong! We all know Greg the gas tank was the goat back then...
..."Noooo Baby Oil!!"
This comment deserves more likes
Randy Poppo has it all
Poffo
People are saying how much they preferred the Ultimate Warrior over Macho Man but he never had the enduring popularity of MM. Why? I suspect partly because UW had 5% of the personality that MM had. Plus, MM was on the smaller side of the WWF wrestlers, but he still held his own. His matches were enthralling from the moment you heard the Commencement theme music start to the final pin, whether he was slated to win or lose. He was the total package.
Poor Elizabeth. For so many reasons, poor Elizabeth.
She wasn't obliged to stay with him though, if he was that bad she could have just broke up with him.
@michael Castle Lex Luger said it best in one of these shoots. With the kind of people who are in the wrestling business he would be just as protective. There was a lot of drugs, a lot of alcohol, and a lot of abusive people in that locker room. Just a reminder that Jimmy Snuka worked in the WWF at the same time as Randy. Do you really blame him? I am glad Lex cleaned his shit up, but when Liz got away from Randy she dove head first in to the drugs and alcohol of the WWF and WCW locker rooms, and Lex was one of her enablers. Damn shame.
Look, kicking her in a room is extreme but you’re talking about wrestlers that are on the road, some drugged up, some drunk, some just horny as hell.
Look at all the stories these guys have Shawn and sunny, Hunter and Stephanie. Remember Stacy keibler? Would you trust any of those guys alone with her if she was with you? Lord knows how many of those hundreds of female wrestlers Vince poked over the past 3 decades.
So, yeah I can see why savage was over protective about her. She was a beautiful woman.
@@Adam-vs2in Don't forget how incestuous the wrestling business was too. Steve Austin married two women that were married to another wrestler before her. Nancy Benoit was married to another wrestler. You could easily have your wife seduced by some other wrestler while you're busy in the ring every night.
Rick Rude said it to Kevin Nash, "Keep your wife away from the business." And he did his best to keep her as far away from it as possible. He may not have been very faithful when on the road, we haven't really heard many rat stories from his perspective, but at least Nash still has the same wife he had when he started in the business.
@@AnsticePalo there's countless stories of Kevin Nash & Scott hall orgies
Everytime I see Brutus he's hating on wrestlers that are better than him in every way I seen him hating on flair warrior Vader and macho now
The madness will always be a legend
BOW! To the Macho King BOW!!
Jesus Christ, could you imagine challenging somebody before you got a look at them and when they stood up, it was Randy friggin Savage??? I would have about shit myself
The only question I have is where the hell is beefcake in this interview? A warehouse break room?
Hockey arena dressing room
A response from the man himself. Thanks Hannibal!
Randy Savage was without a doubt the best all round performer of his generation. He just wasn't as *marketable* as Hulk Hogan.
He was marketable but Hogan tried to the best of his unlimited ability to diminish and delegitimize Macho Man Randy Savages crediblity and drawing power....
This dude says that the Macho Man is not marketable hahaha
I agree with him totally. I haven't watched wrestling in many years because it's not wrestling anymore. It's like watching a bad soap opera.
Pretty crazy to here cause i worked out in largo in the same gym for about 2 years on and off ....he knew i was a fan (mark) and would go into character and start doing the ohh yeahh ..as a 18 19 year old id start grinning like a fucking i dont know a grinmaster 😆..and hulk would look back to see who he was doing it for like ..who the hell is in here you doing that for
Crazy how a superstar like that can be so insecure. This man locked her in the room alone because he was so threatened
Not saying what he did was justified, but I doubt any dude would leave his girlfriend in an environment filled with shady individuals, incredible physiques, alcohol and drugs.
Relationships in that way will always be an issue and maybe not even ideal, unless you're a swinger or something. Show me the dude or woman who is not even a little "concerned" about their significant other at times, and I'll show you someone whose significant other is probably fucking the world while you they walk around calling others insecure...
@@Kaoren717 hey man, for real...legit argument. Might have convinced me
Good job man, these are all so great.
Beefcake is a disaster
PUT LIZ IN THE HALL OF FAME!!!!!!!
I have a rating system for wrestlers, a 1 to 10 scale, with three criteria: work rate, look, mike work. Very few wrestlers score 26 or higher, in total. Savage:
Work Rate: 9
Look: 9
Mike Work: 8.5
Sorry Honky Tonk but he interjected Liz in a lot of matches with George the Animal Steele well before you came along.
Wrestling legends discuss vince russo? Or the klique
I just did one on the Kliq
Perfect finisher
bro randy and ric flair were the best because I feel like they actually were those characters in real life...
Hands of Stone Ronnie Garvin!!!!!
The crazy people are always the most entertaining
I find it very sad that wrestlers seem to have no clue how locks work. Searching endlessly for the key hole on the inside of rooms they are in. How do they get out of their hotel rooms. Bathrooms. Their own car. Just sitting there, waiting for someone with a key to let them out...
These men are still scared macho is gonna mess them up after they die macho was a beastm
He knew how the other boys were.
Best fucking promos in the business...ever. BE A MAN, HOGAN
Lol Macho be like “fuck you Terry your trying to ruin my career” like how the fuck is Red Rooster gonna do that.
Knobbs is Slob
Macho Man’s jealous behaviour with Liz is understandable to me. Look at it this way, if you were a professional football, baseball, etc..player how would you behave if you had to bring your wife into the locker room day in and day out with these testosterone filled athletes? From all the stories being told wrestlers are the worst.....so I get Macho Man’s behaviour, maybe a little over but I get it.
Testosterone, steroids, pills, cocaine, weed, alcohol, and murderous rage(Snuka). That 80s locker room was fucking frightening when you look back at the number of absolute animals were in there. And we later learned Liz had a love for the pills as she eventually dove head first in to them when she was no longer under the protection of Randy.
Does Beefcake have anything good to say about anyone?
My one my best early teen years was holding up my macho man cardboard sign at Boston Garden and being so bummed out when steamboat beat him.
I can't remember who it was, but someone in an interview said that Randy Savage was so protective about Elizabeth because she had a drug problem, and he was trying to keep her clean. Keep the dealers and low lifes away from her. It made him look bad and he knew it but he didn't care. After they broke up, Savage became withdrawn and mean.
Wait, was Sid saying Mach was a horrible wrestler?
Nah. He was talking bout Dean Malenko
Was Beefcake in jail? Lol
Brian Knobbs leaning to do his line of coke on the end table next to him... Just out of camera range enough so it wasn't in the video.
These stories are fantastic LMAOO
I'm so glad Honky still has his trademark hair and sideburns
