    This format needs to be a regular thing. Intermediate/advanced techniques taught as if they’re rudimentary. Slap bass has always been intimidating for me to try and learn, until now.

    I'm not sure why I'm watching this video, I'm already pretty advanced with slap bass. Maybe it's just because I learned to slap from Rob in the beginning with his 8 string slap 101. It's kind of nostalgic watching a new video of you teaching things that I learned from you in the past. I like it!

Well Rob, you've done it again. This video was honestly amazing and I loved all the little skits that you guys organized in the background. I remember in your first slap video you guys were so excited that you finally got a good take you can use... as a hobby guitar player, I can relate to that feeling. Interesting, I've been playing bass for awhile but learned after guitar so haven't really had any direction on technique. I slap very differently to you but it still works for me. I tend to hit the string as closer to a 90 degree angle to the bass and then pull my thumb away quickly. I can still play fast slapping like the intro to higher ground by the peppers so it's not really an issue but I thought it was an interesting note in case people find it easier that the way Rob described.
    The only difference if that with my technique you need to mute the other strings with your left hand as they won't be muted with your right

      @Stoffen224 2 роки тому +1

    The song gives me a Primus vibe 100%.
    Rob moving on to Bass now? Nice to see more guitar players moving on to bass. I mean I could walk across my street and shake a tree and a guitar player will fall from it. My neighbor was a guitar player to the end, until I brought my bass over to his house one day for him to give it a listen. A few weeks later he went out and purchased a bass, which he now plays more then his guitars.
    I too am guilty from starting off with a guitar for awhile, until I tried a bass, and now I have a lot more hours on a bass then I did when I played a guitar. Bass guitars are just much more fun to play when you can get percussions sounds off a string instrument as well as chords, so they are like two instruments in one.

    I've been playing slap bass for fifteen years.
    You want to fight me, fight these tears.
    Um.
    I mean I can't get my head around following through with the thumb unless I'm lining up to do double thump. Which is weird, because obviously it works, but if I try to isolate that technique I just can't get it to work. I cut my thumb's chops off of My Name is Mud, which I originally thought was all thumb downstrokes. So I learned to bounce. Not necessarily 'getting my thumb out of the way' but allowing it to bounce off the string like a hammer. Probably the most useful dead note technique to me is double thumbing. You get two successive downstrokes with the thumb by striking the string, and using the bounce so you strike it again immediately. Your technique rules this out, so I suggest getting on the double thumping technique. It's pretty natural once you get into it, I think of it essentially as another method of popping.

    I always wondered what the rest of the band was doing during a bass solo. I feel I have a better idea now

    Excellent tutorial! My bass has been tucked away for too long...gonna have to break it out again now. And LOL at everything going on in the background. 🤣

    Rob will never stop, he’s an unmovable unstoppable force, to get to your power is a dream in itself. Great job now send that bass so I can record with it :) :)
