Hey Cruisers,
It's day 1 of our Diamond Princess Asia Cruise series. This is the first day of our 12 night cruise, and we'll cover 2800 nautical miles as we visit Tokyo, Shimizu, Osaka, Taipei (Keelung), Hong Kong, Nha Trang & Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) Vietnam, and Singapore.
We start off this cruise vlog first thing in the morning with a lovely breakfast, courtesy of the Hotel Monterey Yokohama. The hotel worked out great (WiFI and breakfast were included!), and breakfast was the the perfect way to start the day. You'll want to watch breakfast for a look at a Japanese special, Natto. Besides breakfast, another great thing about the hotel is the terrific view of the adjacent Yamashita park and the Osanbashi cruise port. And speaking of the park, the boys checked it out with a nice morning walk while I got ready for the big day. After the walk, it was time to head out to the port. We decided to walk, and you'll get a good idea of exactly how walkable the port is it is from the Hotel Monterey Yokohama in this video. Port check-in was terrifically easy. It's a super nice port, and we were very comfortable there. After we board the Diamond Princess, we'll give you a look around our room, Izumi Japanese Bath, the spa, the gym, Kai Sushi, and a bit of the kid's club. You won't want to miss the sweet send off party from the Yokohama cruise port, and the lively sail away hosted by the bubbly cruise director Lynn Van Vorce. Thanks for joining us for this day 1 cruise vlog as we travel to Japan for our Diamond Princess Asia Cruise. We've got much more Asia cruise adventures ahead. We'll have some Asia cruise tips, more cruise vlogs from Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Singapore.

Thanks Susan! So good to hear from you!
Having binged watched your vlogs about this particular cruise, the editing and filming is awesome! Your panning skills are one of the best I have seen. To be patient enough to do a slow pan is an art!
Thanks so much!
Wow what a cool experience. That cruise terminal looked super cool and that spa area overlooking the aft pool, wowza. Love the shots from the 360 camera and how wide the footage from the room and spa looked. Nice. Nice. Nice. Looking forward to the next one. - Tony
Thanks Tony! The 360 worked out well on that walk- I was surprised and how much it captured ❤️
This was AMAZING! Loved every minute of it! ❤️
Loved everything about your experience so far!
Thanks Amanda!
The spa and garden were great. A beautiful hotel and friendly people.
Loved the tour. How unique and fascinating or a ship. Great video.
Wonderful video - thanks CruiseTipsTV! We loved our 16-night Japan and Taiwan cruise on the Diamond Princess in May 2017 out of Kobe. Japan is such a beautiful country!
We did miss the International Cafe a little, but boy the Diamond Princess has held up well as she's aged! Looking forward to other vlogs!
Yes, we missed that too! I’m so glad you got to see Japan. What ports did you visit?
Amazing and beautiful video as always. Regards to Mr. CTTV and Jr. Editor!

I'm so happy I found this channel!! We just booked our first cruise for our late honeymoon, and I'm too dang excited. We're going to Alaska as well! Eeeek!!! Great video!
Ah, thanks Katie! Happy cruise planning. Alaska is amazing. Welcome to the CTTV family!
From the beginning.. It's so great that your son gets these opportunities to meet people and see different cultures from a young age.
Thanks so much Angie ❤️
I totally thought this was tonight - My days are all mixed up with New Year!, LOL
Loved the video, I had a spa mini suite on the Getaway when I cruised Christmas of 2017. I had free use of the spa and literally went everyday. It was so relaxing.
Love it Pauline!
You guys do such a great job, this port and ship was my first cruise and this makes me miss the diamond so much.
Thanks!!!
Saw the vlog on Facebook! Its a really good vlog.
You know what the best thing is about missing the first 5min of this vlog that premiered on CTTV Facebook page? You have to come here to UA-cam and watch it all over again. Love it and really looking forward to this series.
Ah, thank you Bishy!!
I want to go just for the ship because that spa looks absolutely gorgeous! I wish all ships had a tea kettle. Your videos always make me want to travel.
Thanks Melissa!
Thanks for sharing. Looks amazing!
Thank you!
Fantastic. I love the send off party on shore. Like the old days. Shari I think you are going to need a ladder or take a running leap to make it into that bed. Can't wait for more.
Lol you’re right! I could hardly reach
Oooooo Dim Sum!!!! I bet they had some amazing cuisine!
Yes! Totally! Dim sum for brekkie!
Wow wow wow! Great filming! Your little guy it too sweet!
Thank you! He’s a good kiddo.
Everyone tells my wife and I "oh, when you have kids you won't be able to travel. Live it up now because it will be decades before you can do it again." To which we both look at them so confused. We get a lot of criticism when we reply with "no, kids won't stop us from traveling." My wife was brought all over the world with her parents on cruises as a kid, and we plan to do the same. We look so forward to doing what you and your husband do and introducing kids to the world. Cruising is such a great way to travel with kids! Your videos remind us of that all the time. Thank you!
Yess! Love this!! It’s so true - kids ENHANCE the way you experience travel. Such a gift you will be giving your children ❤️
I am so jealous!! We spent 4 months in Japan a few years ago and love the people and culture.
I’m jealous! I’d love to live there!
We loved your video, thank you for sharing. Craig and Linda from Canada.
Thanks Craig and Linda!
I love Japan and your videos.
Wow that's crazy! I was in that exact hotel and did this exact cruise in July last year
Loved
Looks amazing. I’ve never cruised around Japan, but have vacationed there 3 times now, I love the country and traveling round by Shinkansen.
That spa looks like a typical onsen spa, which if in the mountains etc would be fed by hot springs. I’d be very surprised to see anyone wearing swimwear of any kind whilst bathing as traditionally the Japanese spa nude. You shower beforehand as you described, and you make sure there is no soap left on your body when entering the bath. The bath is for soaking only. You have a modesty towel to move around between showers and baths, and traditionally, you fold it and place it on your head whilst in the bath!
It’s a uniquely Japanese experience, but a wonderful one. Many westerners though can struggle to let go of inhibitions and go nude, especially co-ed!
Have fun on your trip, it sounds exciting.
looking forward for our cruise in a month. Thank you. You are so beautiful and so cheery.
Thank you so much!
Great video! My wife goes to the ship spas but I never do! I think I need to start going as that spa was beautiful and relaxing looking! Great looking balcony room you stayed in! That's great your son is learning Japanese!
What was the % of Americans on your cruise? Did you learn some Japanese words and phrases? On our Cruise from Barcelona we only had about 25% Americans so it was fun being with a lot of different cultures and practicing our Spanish we learned while cruising!
Great fun vlog and ship tour! Princess cruises must LOVE your channel! 😊
VERY nice video, folks. Great work.
Thanks!
Amazing vlog!
Thank you!
really looking forward to seeing this high five from down under
Americans never seem to have enough time. I always try to have a day off after a long flight. Enough down time that I can catch up on sleep or organise my paperwork or buy souvenirs or see some sights if I feel up to it. I'll be doing pretty much what you did later this year: flying into Haneda, taking the shuttle to Yokahama, embarking on the ship. Difference is that we'll have two nights at ourr hotel - haven't selected it but yours looks great right beside the park and only a few minutes from the terminal.
I want to take my wife to see some of Tokyo. Shinjuku, Meiji Shrine, Yoyogi Park, Shibuya. If I can navigate the Tokyo subway system. Have you ever seen the subway map? You can feel your brain melting at the complexity - all in not just another language but a different script!
But totally worth it. That has to be my favourite Starbucks in all the world right there in Shibuya, overlooking the crossing. The Meiji
Shrine is astonishing; an oasis of peace, tranquility, grace and majesty in the middle of the chaotic city.
So glad you showed the cruise terminal with a bunch of places to look at. I'd hate to spend an hour or two waiting in some grey concrete shed.
Your ship became famous later on - again in Yokohama - as the cruise industry hiccupped and crashed with the pandemic.

Everything looked so beautiful including you
Love you guys!!!!!!
Thank you Samantha ❤️
Omg it is beautiful.
Jr. Editor is so friendly and full of energy. 😆
Thank you- he is and he was excited for the cruise!
Konichiwaaaa!! Loves it!!
haha- yesss!
Only subscribed recently and so ironic this footage. My wife and I are Aussies and will be cruising from this port in 2021 14 nights to Seattle and then an Alaska 7 nighter and actually found this precise hotel only today.....we are quickly becoming huge fans of your vlogs.....is it fair to say the Monterey will be okay to book? Can not believe this footage its awesome, we didn't know if we could walk etc and you have answered every query, many thanks.
Your son is so cute waving to everyone.
That was my favorite part!
I agree, He's very respectful and well behaved, A sign of Good Parents.
I loved that too! So sweet!
Exactly what I thought
What a good kid too!
Great video! So beautiful!!
You produce the best videos on UA-cam! I watch all of your videos! And now I want to take a cruise to Japan! The cruise lines should pay you to do these videos. We are sailing on Royal Princess to the Mexican Riviera in a few weeks on your recommendation, so excited!
Thanks so much Robin!
Fantastic video! I've off and on for a number of years in Japan, and Yokohama has to be in one of my top five cities in Japan, and perhaps one of my top five cities in the world. If anyone can build-in a few extra days into their itinerary prior to an embarkation day or following a cruise, I highly recommend it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very beautiful Port
Awesome ship and beautiful port
Agreed! Thanks!
Love it! Is GORGEOUS! Someday, I want to go to Japan and South Korea
Yes! We hope to hit Busan next too!!!
@@CruiseTipsTV my korean teacher is from Busan! I have plans to go to Korea next year or in 2021 after I end my korean classes
So envious, y’all travel so LIGHT. What the heck are wearing? After I saw y’all walk to the ship I thought I want see what she packed😀
Great first video...we loved cruising in Asia! What kind of drone are you guys using for the following shots walking to port?
Hi CruiseTips TV,
Great video. Good tips. We will be in Japan in October for a cruise. Can you give some tips on how to travel from Narita Airport to Tokyo, then from Tokyo to Yokohama.
Really psyched about this new adventure...you talk about eating but don't show the food....maybe that will come later. Thanks for posting.
This was awesome! Did you like the Natto? That texture worries me a bit. The baths and spa look amazing, I'd cruise just to use them! This was great to come home to, thank you!
I didn’t! I couldn’t get past the smell!
Great video!
Thanks!
OMG Did they ever look adorable in their matching jackets
They did and they still fit them!!!
Wowsers Sheri&CTTV!! What an awesome Spa area’ so peaceful and tranquil’ did u get a chance to check it out!! Looking forward to more vlogs’ 🚢👍🏻😊😊😊⚓️💦
Thanks Ann!
Thanks for this video. Our Feb 29th cruise from Shanghai to Hong Kong on the Westerdam just got changed to Tokyo to Tokyo because of the coronavirus and I had to scramble to get a room near the cruise terminal. I remember watching your video a year ago and thought that the Hotel Monterey Yokohama looked nice. It was "sold out" on Bookings.com but I managed to get a room for a great price on Expedia. Thanks again for letting me know this was a nice hotel within walking distance to the cruise terminal AND Chinatown. And how to get there from Haneda airport.
Oh wow- thank you so much for sharing this experience with me. We really enjoyed the hotel Monterey and will stay there again in the future I’m sure. The hotel new grand is also within walking distance. I’m so glad that your cruise was not canceled but rather rerouted. Have a wonderful time and if you think about it send me a picture on Facebook when you get home!
🚢 🍾 This is a great video! We are taking this ship out of San Diego in Sept to Mexico. We are in room D202 fun to see your room so close by! Do you book Izumi ahead of time? Any advice or tips for the diamond princess? Tips on the mini suite benefits? This is our first cruise.
Headed on that ship in thirty five days for Cherry blossom season. I wonder if they'll sell cruise passes for the Izumi or do you have to get a pass every day you want to use it? Thanks for the sneak peek!
We were on this same cruise, on deck 10 port side balcony!
The Japanese bath looks so nice.
Thanks! They were!
You must be so happy you booked a year earlier because of,...you know. Current events.
Thanks for sharing an amazing video the sail away was beautiful with the cityscape back lit in all of its beautiful city lighting. Sincerely Adventures of David and Aaron
Thank you!
Oh you tried Natto! I did not have the courage to try it while I was in Japan a few years ago. How did you like it?
