Fantastic, yet sadly almost forgotten New York punk band from 1977. This the title song from the album Noise Addiction, which was recorded in 77, but only finally released in 2005.
Death(Detroit 1971) & Pure Hell(Philly 1974) are 2 great black punk bands , the two found the best band names ever ...& so ahead of their time ...unforgettable like Nat King Cole said
Pure Hell is a Punk Rock band. Death is not. They were a Rock band that combined Hard Rock and R&B. Please know what you're talking about. Even the living members of Death will tell you they're not a Punk band.
44 year old hardcore punk fan just discovered this song and band right now. I honestly was wondering if there were other black punk bands besides my favorites Bad Brains.....and bang here they are....I'm just completely blown away and wish I could have seen these bands live back in 1980...but hey I wOuld have been 4 years old and this video and band would have scared the living shit out of me 😄😄
it makes me happy to know there black coming from black family I love punk rock but my family don't they talk shit but I was happy to know blacks did pioneer the punk movements at first after seeing a punk band with all black artist I can rub this in my family face
Anybody can do any music that they want to man!!!! Who needs this barriers?!? You just have to find the Access-point & believe in yourself 🦉 but it does seem that from culture reasons that metal & punk is not very popular art form(s)?!? 🎶🎙️🎟️
Wow some polished punk rock right there. How come I’ve just discovered these just from a comment in my favourite band the Ramones and these were around the same time too😮

@@harleyflanagan2545 and these same people ignore a great CURRENT band like OBNOX or the great Mick Collins of the Gories, Blacktop and Dirtbombs. Too much nostalgia and not enough support for whats up NOW. Like i said before...DEATH probably set out to push the limits of rock music. In retrospect they couldnt get signed with that name and the brains refused to budge. Its a great story, but Pure Hell were obviously more aware what they were creating. How they couldnt get a record out is a mystery.
So this was from around 1977-1978? Holy crap these guys were about on par with Minor Threat and Black Flag in energy, much faster than the Sex Pistols and Ramones around the same time.
Yeah the story of why this band didn't get it's proper credit in punk rock history is sad but they stuck true to themselves and didn't want to sell out. PS: it was money hungry producers
Yeah they were definitely ahead of their time and almost forgotten due to a greedy producer who wanted them to do Motown and they had the Rights to their music and threw everything away. It wasn't until Henry Rollins helped get them inducted into the African American museum of pop culture that they got recognition. But they were first wave punk and made it number 4 on the UK top hits chart.
Cuz they are black dudes, even tho the scene was very libertine it was very white, mostly white bands, mostly white fans, sux but true, probably a huge challenge for them to get gigs and recording contracts…totally sux cuz they were such a kickass punk band, Pure Hell is on my regular playlist along side Dead Boys Ramones, NY Dolls, Heartbreakers etc.
In the documentary they spoke about wearing punk rock clothes while living in the hood and people will give them crap but eventually left them alone (similar story with me) They also once got booed offstage in the UK they thought it was for their music but they all went on stage wearing a swastika on their shirts and the Holocaust was not even 30 years prior. They also got recognition from Sid vicious.
Description says they were a ‘77 NYC punk band, and while they’d have fit right in with the likes and best of any NYC punk band in ‘77, PURE HELL was a Philly band, I imagine they were the punk lions of the Philly scene, they are so tight and in top form in this live cut. Just the guitar player alone Carrie’s rhythm and lead as if there were two players and
I only heard of these guys today. I'm glad I did. You're watching the world's first black Punk band, years before Bad Brains, Fishbone, Living Color & Cerebral Balzy.
The shock isn't that there were Black punks in the beginning... The shock is that there weren't MORE! After all, who REALLY had something to complain about?
Check out a band called death not to be confused with the death metal band of the same name this band from Detroit early seventies all black Three Brothers one of the songs I can think of right off the top of my head is politicians in my eyes check them out think you like them
Programmed applause at end? Looks almost like a black young Lou reed or something.....wonder if any of these guys are still around? Great song....real punk energy

Here I am at 57 and just discovered them. That's PUNK. I love it.
I saw them at the Hot Club on South Street around 1980. The lead singer did a head stand on the Marshall half stack and it flipped over.
Cool.

Amazing song and great guitar playing…some Hendrix influences. Sounds like they used the term PMA before Bad Brains
