In 1970s Honda produced a Perfect Motorcycle called Honda 4 , which had 4 cylinders and it Sounded like a F-16 Engine when it was Accelerating , since then i have not seen any company coming up with that Honda 4 , capacity , power and Beauty .
I am really wondering about the weight distribution - when they introduced the previous model they told the tank is at the back so the weight is better distributed (and I agree very much with that as I am driving one) - now they are moving tank again in the front "to better balance the bike" ... any ideas?
+anastasme Apologies for the late response. The bikes are heavier with more options built in standard and even more options a rider can choose to add, this could be the reason for the weight shift, but please don't quote me on that. Have a wonderful week! Cheers, Elizabeth of the BMW Motorrad Team
They didn't state it was in the front only that it had been shifted forward. He gestured to directly below the seat so I'm guessing it sits above the rear shock so it's a centralised mass as low as possible.
Wouldn’t it be better for the gas weight to be in the rear for times you jump the bike in the air and dont want the bike’s front end to dip down so quickly?
Love the looks of the new f850gs. I rented an f800gs and thought it was just about the most boring bike I have ever tried (smooth as an inline 4, without the sound or power). Happy to see they addressed the characterless engine. Agreed with most, 18-19L would have been much more usable for serious touring.
Hi there, a bigger gas volume always comes with adventure model. For now, we have no information if and when there is coming a new one to the market but if so it would have a bigger sized tank. All the best Joerg of the BMW Motorrad Team
Bout time these got updated along lines of the R1200GS. Felt like since the new 1200 came out in 2014, the disparity between the lower and higher end models was too large
Q: Range? *How large or small is the gas tank* on the BMW F750 GS & F850 GS?? This is a very important spec. that no one seems to include. Please answer this feature. I heard these new BMW F750 & F850 bikes have *15 liter tanks* (reference - Chronicles of Solid). That is a very small tank.
Yes it is a very small tank for something pretending to be a long distance and/or off-pavement adventure bike. It should have come with 4.5 gallons minimum. A plus would have been 5.0 gallons.
The bike is assembled in Germany. The motor is built in China under strict German supervision and superior cleanliness standards. No loss in quality and saves thousands per bike, and keeps Germans fully employed. Win win win. ✊🏼 Just need 5G tank!
I'd love to have a test ride for review purposes on one of these. Just a small channel but I'd happily get in touch with a Motocross track and really try and push the bike ha. Would be a nice upgrade from my 2012 f650 that's for sure.
+PantherX12 It would be a nice upgrade indeed! As for the test ride: you might sign in here to book one! bmw-motorrad.com/contact. Just select your country and the model you'd like to try out! Cheers, Anna of the BMW Motorrad Team
BMW Motorrad Thanks for the response Anna. The guys at my local motorad have already told me no off roading with the test bikes though ha. Good guys there mind, invited me out for a group ride.
Been waiting for a light but sturdy adventure bike. Something way better than a KLR but not as heavy as a F800. Not sure this will be that bike. If you are only saving 50 or 60 pounds over a 1200 why bother. Get the 1200. International riders don't want to deal with a heavy bike. BMW make a 650 with a heavy duty frame and a overdrive gear for the hiway. A mini 1200.
Even my KLR is 425 pounds. Nothing wrong with a KLR other then it is 30 year old technology which has some real benefits. There are a few nice bikes around 800 CC but, for adventure touring and having to deal with dirt, they are 100 pounds too heavy. I really like the Honda 1000 twin and the 1200 BMW but I wouldn't want to ride either on 50 miles of washboarded bad dirt and gravel. The 70 HP smooth twin engine 400 pound bike is something I doubt we will ever see. So, I might buy another bike but I'll still keep my KLR650 too. It ain't pretty, it ain't fast, it doesn't handle for shit but, it always gets there and it's cheaper then dirt.
+Henrik Rónai Yeah, I got my license on a 700cc bike. When you take things step by step it's not such a crazy concept. But yes, that doesn't mean someone should just hop on an F 850 GS and start doing enduro. Cheers, Elizabeth of the BMW Motorrad Team
I bought a F700GS as my first big bike, the day after I got my license. I sat for my full A license 4 weeks after my CBT. So yeah, you could say I bought this bike as a complete noob rider. These bikes are awesome for beginners as they are easy to ride and will grow with you as a biker. These days, I commute 100 miles each day on the bike and then go green laning in the weekend. Few bikes are as versatile. I'm still not sold on the silly headlight though. Triumph Tiger definitely looks better.
You are bikers too, do you not feel any responsibility ? What do you suggest a beginner do with 200kg +80hp? Beginner bike should be 300cc or less if possible.
+Fredo C As far as I know, cast aluminum wheels are the standard for the F 750 GS and I don't think spoked wheels comes as part of the optional package just yet. Cheers, Elizabeth of the BMW Motorrad Team
Fredo C Looks to be same front setup as current f700 series and f650 and f650 Dakar. So you could flip a Dakar wheel around and use that although you'll loose out on one caliper and disk.
I wonder if they will have the fork, swing arm, and other issues of the previous bikes. The last thing I need out in the desert is an expensive broken bike. BMW's reputation in the reliability area has suffered greatly the last few years. I hope they get back on track soon.
edit: I've been informed in the comments that CC is available. Tnx. Original post: No cruise control in this class is massive letdown. Most will use 850GS for touring and occasional offroad. Yamaha just released 2018 MT-09 Tracer GT with cruise control!! In a bike that will be cheaper.
It looks great but I'll never get it. GS was unique because of its weight distribution due to the under seat fuel tank. Having it in the normal position is going to make sure you feel every bit of its weight off-road. My GS feels unbelievably light because of where the tank is located. I wouldn't want it in the front.
+Kyle Gradwell Hi Kyle, thanks for your feedback! It's obvious to see what you love about your GS... and therefore quite difficult to change your mind on the modifications using only words! You definitely should try it out during a test ride - it might feel different than you expect now. 😉 Cheers, Anna of the BMW Motorrad Team
From BMW I expected much more in this case, I expected much more offroad capabilities, less weight and bigger tank as in 800. New model have suspension travel worse than in 800. And the real nail to the coffin for me - fuel tank capacity. Guys, 15 liters for true adventure bike?! Is this a joke? My current bike have 22 liters. KTM 1090 Adventure R weighs 3kg more fully tanked but have 24 liters one, much bigger engine and now it looks like I choose KTM - excellent bike, fantastic offroad with even too much power. I loved it since first minute. I think you just lost a lot of clients choosing better bikes, even crf1000l. What a disappointment.
No ABSpro no cruise control. But connectivity toys. Check your priorities. Edit: ok, optional cc available. However lacking the cornering ABS, same as Tiger 800.
Will this be an India or China made? I want to know so I can weigh what BMW will be asking for this. It better be made in EU if they are asking a premium price for this.
Too much talking in the video, too much whinging in the comments. No cruise control, really an issue you big girls? I do some seriously long rides and I never feel I need CC. I rather feel the ever so exhilarating feel of power from hand to shoulder to brain. BMW are just going to do a German version of everything that has success. They can paint that thing with Dakar colours but it won't the real deal (i.e. the glorious AT from Honda).
If the Honda & KTM destroy the BMW offerings, what's the market for the BMWs? Who's buying them? Apparently there's enough of a market for these updated bikes or BMW wouldn't have spent the money on the redesign.
If the scum says it's not good (they say that since 1923!) It's because it's actually good! Also, they say the same to the "gs" since 1980, however ...
Hello Animish, the size of the tank is chosen in consideration with the design as a whole. The designers went with this tank because it fit the bike as a whole best. - Janina, BMW Motorrad Team
How does a 270 degree crankshaft create "punchiness" . If all other things are equal the direction of the pistons the engine's character/performance. (IMHO)
If you can ignore all the technical molarchy of pistons, firing order, cylinder count, configurations, etc. and just consentrate on the torque/horsepower curves, you've got your answer. In a common 4-stroke engine, the crankshaft has to rotate 720° to complete all 4 cycles for a given cylinder. By shifting around "when" those cylinders fire, you change the shape of the torque curve of the engine from idle to redline. Without changing displacement or the number of cylinders, you can change the whole shape of the curve just by changing when the cylinders fire every 720°. That's what the difference is. Taking the last 800 which was timed 360° firing order and moving it to 270°, you change the whole sound of the engine and the shape of the torque curve. You'll get bigger torque hits on the bottom, the engine "character" will feel more lumpy (like a Vtwin), and power will be produced slightly differently. Also changes the way traction will be made at the rear wheel. It makes a big difference.
Chinese Engine? Sorry NoGo. Bayrische Motoren Werke? Maybe they should outsource the management with chinese people. This is not a low cost item and the bike is to expensive for that kind of joke. As a 1200 GS driver a Shame (thought to change my 2nd Bike, a V-Strom 650 with the 850 GS, but i think i will go for V-Strom 1000, tested and pricley more interesting).
That's it BMW! Just keep pushing it with marketing babble! Let's see who's stupid enough to spend their hard-earned on a bike that has no standard cruise control, has its's engine built in China, limited range, limited reliability ( It's been a long time since I last bought into the idea of 'German engineering' after having experienced the reliabilty and 'build quality' of the latest 3-series ua-cam.com/video/u76SMKCT_0k/v-deo.html (at 3.48). Time to shape up and back up the talk with some action!

Background music link please
The bike does have cruise control as option on the premium package.
Look at my profile picture? Is that similar headlights with those GS?
what's the music is?
nice bike!!! waiting the adventure version with larger tank capacity =D
Yes, I'm not moving from my F800GSA until there is an Adventure version with a LARGE tank in a sensible place
No cruise control!!! what’s going on with BMW?
Look at frame 4:07. There is the Cruise Control button over the hazard light button. It's the same one from the 1200 gs
