I adore my oilhead GS. Mine does everything from daily urban commuting, weekend B-road shenanigans, off-road touring, and continent crossing (literally). If there is an afterlife I hope it finds me there. Thank you BMW.
Hi thepassionofthegoose, thanks and we`re glad to hear, that you`re having so much fun time with your GS :) Kind regards, Sara of the BMW Motorrad Team
Every branding is about emotional story telling. And this little movie does it all. Never been a huge fan of BMW, but all the RnineT derivates changed my mind. Nice motorcycles and easy to ride.
I already own two BMW’s (an R nineT and a 2017 GSA) and when I saw the Urban GS I felt an inexplicable attraction , perhaps it’s the idea of a combination between both of them or just because it’s an homage to the original Paris-Dakar R80, I dunno but I find it irresistible. Now I can’t sleep thinking how I’m gonna sell the idea of adding one to my small collection to my dear wife. Bloody hell, whenever I ride a BMW I can’t stop smiling...
Have been wanting a Iron 883 as my next bike for quite some time but after seeing a Urban G/S yesterday Im not so sure anymore. the G/S feels like a bike that will take you to distance places with a smile.
glad I watched this - not my style of bike or brand...but I think it's cool she got to meet someone so important to her....and riding is riding....for 35+ years...mostly on HD's....I love meeting people who love to ride...that's what it's all about.
I have an original R nineT..it is a dream come true of a bike. The Urban GS is my favorite of the new iterations. Awesome video showing real pedigree, keep it up Motorrad!
great video, nice story and great drone flying..... every time i read the comments on any video on youtube, i am reminded why i shouldn't read comments....very sad!
Great video, captures the feeling of riding !!! I just purchase my first BMW a R1200GS and now I am smitten with BMW and of course the Boxer engine and its history!!! .... keep up the good work 👊🏻 "make life a ride"
I love these little side stories, bringing the past forward for a little nostalgia trip. Love the nine T, but I can't put 2 in the garage so I wait for delivery of my GSA.
Hey Colin, sad to hear that there is no space for two bikes ;) But i hope you´ll have a lot of fun with the GSA :) All the best, Stefanie of the BMW Motorrad Team
+DSM Entertainment, You have no idea how happy it makes me, to see a comment like this (especially that someone points out the cinematography). I'm glad you like it and hope you stay tuned for future videos. Have a wonderful day! Highest of fives, Elizabeth of the BMW Motorrad Team
Whenever I’m in Dakar, I get goosebumps of nostalgia thinking of the original Dakar rally. Great production BMW! I am a definite fan of your boxer, and probably the reason I’m begging for a mid-size adventure with one, maybe replace the motor and drive train in the new F850 with that of the R9T as and option extending the current R9T line (and resurrecting the previous GS)...? Wishful thinking, probably, but such thinking was the reason we now have the awesome new R1250gs in the first place. Do an initial limited run and see the market response.
Hi Alex, thank you very much. We follow your rides and blog and there is no doubt that you do a very good job there. All the best Joerg of the BMW Motorrad Team
Having owned an Urban GS for 4 years, I wonder what Hubert really thought of the dreadfully harsh suspension it left the factory with?? Was very sad to hear of his passing, he was way too young, way to resilient to succumb.
Hi BMW team, I would like to go around the world with the nine t urban GS, is it capable and how can I prepare it? I'm doing this world tour for the heritage of the brand, you are my heart brand, moreover I'd like to prove to everyone that it's possible to live from your passions by travelling, being a freelancer, a traveller, a biker and share this happiness with everyone. Do you think you could help me on this kind of indication and on the possibilities that this motorcycle offers? I am French. Thank you for all these values that you share with us every day.
What a beautiful bike. I love my GSA WC, but I fear my Pikes Peak might have to be traded on a new Urban GS. Our local dealer just got one. Very cool! What's with all the critics? Let's face it. The Urban GS needs more clearance like all the H3 Hummers needed 33" tires! For what?
Yeah, they’ve kinda cannibalised their own creation (ie Scrambler) with the Urban GS. Why on earth would I want the Scrambler if the other one has more "va-va-voom”?
I get the 'marketing man' criticism but note the name - URBAN GS. Style came into consideration very early in the development and sale of motorcycles. It's important to many motorcyclists and I don't think there is anything wrong with that (although I dislike 'fake', like radiator shrouds on an air-cooled bike, etc). This R9T is a leisure 'bike, as most 'bikes are in the West if we are honest. I have friends with GS's and Land Rovers that never leave tarmac. They like them and enjoy them. 'Scrambler' is the currency just now and BMW, like all the rest, want to sell to that market. You don't have to buy it. I liked very much the philosophical musings by both presenters of what motorcycling brings to consciousness. Very hard to define.
Not radiators, radiator shrouds (bodywork). Back when liquid cooling of small capacity dirt bikes was new and 'cool', some manufacturers of air-cooled base model trail bikes fitted bodywork that aped radiator shrouds / cowls to give the 'cool' look to a cheap bike aimed at young people. The inverse corollary nowadays are the 'fake' cooling fins cast in to the barrels of a liquid-cooled engine when a manufacturer puts said engine into a retro or naked model. Both are styling exercises. Just saying that 'looks' are important to motorcyclists.
Hi Bryan. thanks for asking. Joy is wearing the GS Carbon in light-white, that was customized from her painter Josh Trevino from Texas. Just for your information: Hubert is wearing the GS Carbon‘ in black matt. All the best, Stefanie of the BMW Motorrad Team
hey, there at BMW put some money to print some catalogue for your motorcycles. ... went to a motorshow, and your kiosk was the only one that i could not get a catalogue in real paper... shame on you !
So evocative, this touches the soul of every ADV rider. Joy finds all the right words for this epic journey.
RIP Legend Hubert Auriol, you will be missed!
Indeed. I have only just found out he died. Watching this video for the second time, so I googled him. Sad.
I adore my oilhead GS. Mine does everything from daily urban commuting, weekend B-road shenanigans, off-road touring, and continent crossing (literally). If there is an afterlife I hope it finds me there. Thank you BMW.

I cried a little. Fantastisches Motorrad, fantastische Menschen, einzigartige Geschichte.
Every branding is about emotional story telling. And this little movie does it all. Never been a huge fan of BMW, but all the RnineT derivates changed my mind. Nice motorcycles and easy to ride.
I love this one! Awesome history, enthusiastic people telling it, and stunning cinematography. I love my 1200GS, and proud of it's heritage!
Hi szucsl03a,
thank you!

Incredible. Feel privileged to have owned an R80GS Paris Dakar with its 32 litre tank. Amazing bike that I did so much with.
I love these little side stories, bringing the past forward for a little nostalgia trip. Love the nine T, but I can't put 2 in the garage so I wait for delivery of my GSA.

What a great campaign, beautifully shot, dream assignment!
This brought me great joy!!! Thanks so much for sharing.
What a stunning video! Absolutely love the cinematography and absolutely love the bike! Thanks a lot for making it!

FUCK! Now I have to buy an BMW R ninet Urban G/S.
Looks freakin' great that bike. Only thing, it's a hell lot of expensive.
Not really. At least, not in Europe.
Awesome video! Got me infected with the "GS Virus", I just bought my very own Urban GS.
toute ma jeunesse, super video, merci BMW....
Hubert still looks fit and healthy...Respect!!
Sweet bike. Bought an R1200 GS Adventure a few months ago, absolutely love it! Cannot wait for some trips in the next few months!
Hey Nathan, great to hear! I hope you will have awesome adventures with it! Drive safe, Stefanie of the BMW Motorrad Team
awesome cinematic work and story telling, would have been great to have you guys on board my viral 500 Day Alaska to Argentina motorcycle adventure
Hi Alex, thank you very much. We follow your rides and blog and there is no doubt that you do a very good job there. All the best Joerg of the BMW Motorrad Team
That looked like an amazing experience! Would love to have met the Hubert, the legend himself. Oh and Joy too haha!
Great video. Love the cinematography and history. Interesting storyline. This bike would totally contrast all my friends' Harleys.
Having owned an Urban GS for 4 years, I wonder what Hubert really thought of the dreadfully harsh suspension it left the factory with?? Was very sad to hear of his passing, he was way too young, way to resilient to succumb.
i felt like crying
R.I.P. Legend !

Nice video! Congratullations
Bmw the greatest bikes ever made
Wonderful video...
I have now decided I like the Urban G/S better than the Scrambler.
Yeah, they’ve kinda cannibalised their own creation (ie Scrambler) with the Urban GS. Why on earth would I want the Scrambler if the other one has more "va-va-voom”?
This bike moves money from your pokets to bmw balance sheet. Impressive vehicle.
Video bellissimo....👍🏍❤️
Unfortunately Urban G/S isn't available in India.
Lots of cool videos on this channel, how about making one for us RT riders its always overlooked.
It is a good idea to invent a naked RT :D :D :D
It already has been R1200R
Uau! Fantastic!
I didn't expect the "freedom" cliche from this guy!

"I dislike 'fake', like radiator shrouds on an air-cooled bike"? Who puts fake radiators on an air cooled motorcycle?

What helmet is she wearing??
BMW Enduro / Street Helmet GS 2015
Hi Bryan. thanks for asking. Joy is wearing the GS Carbon in light-white, that was customized from her painter Josh Trevino from Texas. Just for your information: Hubert is wearing the GS Carbon‘ in black matt. All the best, Stefanie of the BMW Motorrad Team
Bryan Fitzgerald yeah it's cool looking helmet
***** can I buy this helmet in the US?
Hi Bryan, I am so sorry, but this helmet is not available in the US. All the best, Stefanie of the BMW Motorrad Team
Toppppp🎉
who is Joy Lewis.. ? ;/ ?
Who is she?
Joy Lewis! :)
Cheers, Anna of the BMW Motorrad Team
Serious? It's in the video!!!!!! 0:54
Bikes need to be physically bigger. 20% bigger. They look so much better for smaller riders / female.
Remember when BMW’s weren’t gay?
Triumph sont pour les homosexuels anglais 😂…..tous les anglais sont homosexuels….😂
When a urban gs, without the urban? No, I don't say 1250gs...
What is an Urban GS? To put the GS moniker on this bike with 5 inches of suspension travel is kind of an insult to the name.
It's an homage to the original. Not many people want to ride an actual racing vehicle commuting to work or going to the shops.
That is why they added "Urban" to "GS." Buy an HPN bike if you want Hubert's bike.
Adrian Rubi or you can spend another 2000 euros in a elevation kit(rear shock + usd fork or cartridge)
having this Dakar bikes..... what? those are Dakar bikes? No way... Pure marketing
it was...back in the 80s. this new bike is inspired by the original
rien à voir avec la gs d'auriol
vriment pathétique ou business si bussiness
Well made marketing video but guess what? I feel that same "freedom" on a Suzuki, a Harley or a Honda :)
This isn't about "freedom" it's about pedigree and heritage. It's very obvious in the video, too.
They really fucked this Nine T up.
mmm such a wasting of this legacy..
gna gna gna gna gna...
hey, there at BMW put some money to print some catalogue for your motorcycles. ... went to a motorshow, and your kiosk was the only one that i could not get a catalogue in real paper... shame on you !
Why would they waste money printing catalogs for people who have internet access?
