I'm from Sheffield, well, have been since we moved from Salisbury in 1993 but currently living and working in Saudi Arabia. These videos are just fantastic and bridge that gap from here to home especially as I won't be back home for a few months, and even then only for a couple of weeks. All these places I know so well - Alport Castles, Kinder Scout, Edale, Glossop, Derwent and Ladybower and Sheffield itself. Every time I feel homesick, which is often, I just watch Patrick for half an hour and job done, spirits lifted and another half an hour closer to home. Wouldn't mind a guided tour of Megatron!!
Hi Charles ye you left some beautiful wild countryside behind but careers and family etc all take precedence, one day you'll be back, I,ll try and keep you connected to the Peak District untill then, thanks Pat

Hi Martin there's always a first time for everything, and your not far from here in Manchester, just a train ride away. Took a bit to pull me away from the tunnels, there such sheltered and comfortable places, all the best Pat
I’ve always said. You can watch the rain from your house or from a tent.. it’s always better from a tent!! Well done as usual Pat. I enjoy all your videos..your an inspiration to us all! Thank you for sharing
Hi Pat, it's great discovering some of your older Videos. I enjoy all of your content & this is no exception, thanks very much for the great quality and entertainment
Hi Neil that's great to here I,be woken some happy memories of your younger years, it's no so good this getting old lark, as I,am finding out myself, thanks Pat
Really enjoyed this. Thank you. I've started watching your videos in chronological order from the beginning. I'm now here, and I don't want them to end. All the best.
Just found these vids so binge watched. The quality and comentary are brilliant. As a fellow retiree from the board it's good to see how you're enjoying your time. Thanks.
Hi Peter your name rings a bell, the word Board must be the old YEB, don t know how many times they changed the name after that, I left " Northern Power Grid " in 2012 and have never regretted it. I started in 1971 and still in touch and out for a drink with friends from that era, nice to hear from you Pat
Subscribed three days ago after watching the camping in the canopy vid. I'm watching a couple of video's each night, and enjoying this channel so much. Well done to you Sir.
Brilliant video Pat - great to see you out and about again! I'm going to have to get my rear end in gear and get out more too... Looking forward to the next one! Cheers, Dave.
I've just recently found your channel and I feel I must thank you for your superb content! Your wild camps are just how I like them - WILD!! Your shed pub is to die for, and your down-to-earth personality is bloody brilliant. I'm not so far away, in the Yorkshire Dales. I love the Peak District - it's an area I have walked and caved/potholed in many times over the years. Cheers to you! Keep up the great work! :-)
Thanks Andy, I think we have similar interests and general out look in life, why camp on a quiet valley when you can camp on the wild summit, hopefully back out soon, thanks Pat
Hey Pat a good trick is to carry a scalpel blade in your wallet (Wrapped in Foil). Doesn't matter where you are you always have a small extremely sharp blade on you that takes up no space. Very handy for splinter removal too. Enjoyed your video...they are always worth the wait! Cheers Russ (Australia)
I use sterile disposable surgical scalpels, e.g. B|Braun Cutfix, they have a nice plastic handle and come with reusable plastic sheath. They are very handy not only in the lab or for surgery but also at home or outdoors. And not too expensive either.
Weather is blue skies and about 28c here Pat in tropical North Queensland. Love your videos mate and great to see your adventures. The scalpel blade in the wallet is something I have done for years and it is surprising what a useful tool they are. Wishing you warm weather, blue skies and good health...cheers Russ
Thanks for the vid Pat. Atmosphere and coping with what nature throws at us is what camping is about and you do it well, for yourself and us. Regards Pete.
I've never seen Manchester looking as good as that Pat 😂 Another awesome video! I know there are a lot of people who don't really like the mix of videos but I love the fact you mix your videos up a bit. It keeps me wondering what's coming next but to be honest, I'm not bothered what it is, I just love your videos. Thank you for taking the time (and I know it's a lot of time) to make them 👍🏻
My interests change every few months so my vidios follow as they are basically a film record of what I get up to, thanks for watching appreciate your comments Pat
Pennine Way 1990 and Bleaklow was exactly the same as in your video, great memories of turf bog and mist. It didn't stop raining until I got to Hebden Bridge, a testing few days. Thanks Pat..
Hi no it's the pull of the underground drains and tunnels can tkeep out of them, also easier to film in a nice dry tunnel than a wet moorland, but great to be back out, thanks Pat
My fiancé and I absolutely love your videos, Patrick. I know I've told you this before but they're so enjoyable, even when the weather is bleak you make it entertaining! We're re-watching a lot of the old ones at the moment. I hope you get to go on another camping trip soon and may the sun shine upon you! Natasha x
@@patrickdickinson6492 Hello Pat. Your videos are fantastic. I am amazed at all the different subjects you cover. I never knew people camped in a treetop. I never knew there are caves under Sheffield. You showed some smashing pubs. Your photography is really good. I will write a blog post about you in the next day or two. Toodle pip. ilona
Hi Pat, Really enjoying going through your videos, its prompting a lot of my own memories of camping. Glad you enjoyed it.Thanks for keeping in the comedy gold of having packed away your glassses, would nt have been any good in the rain!! Good luck from Spain!!
Glad my videos have brought back so many happy memories, this camp did not quite work as planned due to the rain, but as usual, so many other things happened..... thanks Pat
Hi Lee yes I vary my vidios alot but always come back to a wild camp at some point, I get a sort of feeling the hills are drawing me back every so often, thanks Pat
Great to see you back out there camping again Pat. Thanks for leaving the segment in when you realised you'd packed your glasses with your tent. The expression(s) on your face was comedy gold lol.
Pat - My husband and I thoroughly enjoy all your adventures. We were brought by the Fred Dibnah steeplejack & train videos. Keep doing what you do. Love from Los Angeles.
Thanks for an excellent video Pat. Done a fair bit of wild camping. I too enjoy a night in a tent whatever the weather. Most people can't understand it!
Another great video Pat, I have only just found your channel within the last couple of weeks, so , lots to catch up on. Better than watching TV. Excellent
Just discovered this after my annual walking trip to Castleton and Kinder Scout (not camping) Always wanted to go to Bleaklow, can almost see it from where I live. Brilliant stuff. Greetings from Huddersfield.
Hi Jill, I think you will love Bleaklow for its isolation and unspoilt wild moorland, but becareful, so wasy to get lost in its vastness and remoteness .....all the best Pat
Found one of your railway tunnel videos 3days ago, since watched your wild camp videos! Not sure about tree camping as you must get bitten by everything going!! Your videos are addictive, love the way its all filmed inc. script and accent! absolutely fantastic sir!! keep up the great work, its very relaxing to watch after a long day in the office! Cheers Dave.
pat as always great to see you enjoying the surroundings whatever the weather ! on the knife front ... my brother brought me many years ago a swiss army knife [multi champ] i thought i would never use it ... how wrong! ... and when it suffered things not opening /shutting [maybe my fault abit] i sent it to them ... it was returned to Switzerland ... and was fully reconditioned ! .... amazing ... they have a full life warranty and is used on a daily basis ! was impressed how compact your tent skin compacted ... im sure very essential for wild camps ! look forward to many more !
Hi Carl, yes I know things have changed about knifes, but I,be carried one, responsibly with me since about 10 year's old so useful, and , such beauty in the craftsmanship, amazed at your Swiss Army knife story, thanks Pat
Great video! Looks like you enjoyed your camp. The dehydrated food is a great idea, especially for grab and go when you haven't planned a camp. I remember watching your old videos on de-hydrating. Thanks for sharing.
Sounds like a great winter project! Let us know if you make any really interesting combinations, I am always really uninspired when it comes to camping food and opt for buying something convenient. It was good to see you out in the hills again despite the weather.
really enjoyed the video and always get excited when there's a new upload :) me and my boyfriend always snuggle up with a cup of coffee to watch your videos and they always make our day :) hannah
Hi Hannah, that's great that you enjoy my vidios, I try and vary them as my interests change, just not enough days in the week to do everything I want, thanks for watching Pat
Brilliant wild camp vid for me, i learned that i'm not doing wrong in compressing my tent, something that was worrying me.. I will be getting some of that powered milk for sure.. I think the weather is part of the adventure, people say I am mad doing my first wild camp in march and that spring summer better, I want to test myself and my equipment I have spent the last year putting together.. Just home from my night shift, and with a bottle of beer and a cheese sandwich I really had a great half hour watching your wild camp.. Thanks pat..
Hi and nice to hear from you any time is a good time for a first wildcamp, just be aware were you campif things go wrong. I,ve always compressed everything for carrying to get it in my rucksack, the tent spent 3 days on the garage drying out, I put up a line and hooks to hang it on, all packed away dry ready for the next adventure, because that is what they are, each camp is a adventure on its own which you will remember all your life, thanks Pat
Yes a memorable moment, and so true, I now check where my glasses are after every camp, I did actually stuff the tent, and glasses into a stuff sack, don't know they survived....... thanks Pat
Love the bit where you realise where your glasses are - glad I'm not he only one to have 'senior moments' on the hill! A small tip if I may: when taking down a wet tent, it pays to give it several vigorous shakes with the wind behind you. This will shed a surprising amount of water which you can do without carrying in your pack. And like you say, they're all great camps (apart perhaps the one where I set fire to mine by poor stove management, but that's another story).
Hi David yes I should of shook all that water off the tent would off got rid of some weight. Alot of things to think about on a camp especially in bad weather so can expect, a few , "senior moments". Thanks for watching Pat
Another fantastic video. You have definitely showed us that no weather can stop your wild camping. The part in the beginning where you nearly tripped was close. Lucky you found your glasses on the way down as the visibility was terrible and dangerous. The dehydrated food is such a good idea. Keep the videos coming Pat and as I always say to you, Be careful out there.
Hi yes I did think it would clear up at night to give me a view of Manchester at night but no, the low cloud was here to stay. Still a enjoyable camp, like every camp is, thanks Pat
Thank you Pat for another adventure . You have inspired us to go ( small & light ) hiking . We walked up to Wynn Hill & Lady Bower & Cave Dale . Not as adventurous as you . I thought the best part of the vid was the " where are my glasses " part , you had a look on your face that I have often .. Hope you get to visit the Plane Wreck … I was really up for that . Regards .
You do it so well. I appreciate how you set up the camera than you have to walk away and come back to it. It wall takes a lot of time and of course you have to edit. I love your naration too. Very well done. 60 years ago I cycled from Wellingborough to the Peak district and cyled up the pass, went into some caverns and stayed at Youth Hostels. Best wishes
Hi yes a lot of running back and forth but it gives me the vidio I want, what you don, tree is when I make a mess of it and have to film that bit again and again. Winnatts Pass that you probably cycled up near the caverns is as steep as ever, you did well getting up there, all the best Pat
Another fantastic video Pat. I love the way you just tell it as it is, no bullshit just get on with it approach. Don't we live in a gorgeous country some stunning scenery on the way down . Looking forward to your next video. Take care.
Sat in the beer garden at the Crown in heeley watching this with a gorgeous pint of farmers blonde,Another great video really enjoy watching them, the ones with the beer are my favourites
Hi Pat, and thanks for your, as always, interesting video. And, in other order of things, I'm always pleased to listen you; I'm from Catalonia, my understanding of spoken English is not as good as I'll would desire, but... you are ALWAYS understandable. Your calm and very clear talk is perfect for learn. Warm regards from our catalan warm october!
Didn't see too many hardy souls up there experiencing the joy of wild camping in the mist and rain. There is nothing nicer though than being safe inside your tent while the weather is a bit on the dodgy side.I must say Pat,personally I would have loved the jets coming over on approach to Manchester, being an airline geek!.I have once more been entertained and wholly enjoyed your wild camp old son,as I do most of your expeditions.I have to say from your past vids I loved the Eurostar trips also and the pub crawl! cheers matey
Hi Dave I yes enjoyable camp whatever the weather, the jets look impressive in the daytime so big and so slow, they look like they could fall out the sky as they decided into Manchester. All the best for now see you on my next adventure, Pat
@@johnfrancis7765 You know what, when I was back home November 2016 I saw a Japanese company had a small place at the bottom of Wincobank as I walked to Meadowhall interchange. Barrow Road (B6082) I think, on the right hand side walking toward Meadowhall. Then 3 month later I saw their knives in Calgary proudly stating "Made in Sheffield".
Nothing like good tucker when you're out camping.I traveled to the Northern Territory Every year from Newcastle NSW over 3,000km barramundi fishing . Camped on a billabong for 2 weeks Catching cherabin shrimp, & Barramundi . AIl sorts of ways two cook Barramundi ,Sweet and sour, Fish and chips ,Oyster sauce .Nothing like it . Its the Crocodiles you have to be careful about . Not the weather ...Love your videos ....
Excellent thank you Pat for taking the time and trouble to set up, film and edit. Although I'm from East Kent near Ramsgate I feel I'm getting to know your area well! I look forward to your next production with great excitement :-) take care and keep filming! best regards!!
Reminds me of weekend back in the early 90's. Headed out from Glossop onto Bleaklow and gave the map to someone who then decided to take a direct route to the Snake Inn. Very very bad idea. There's no such thing as a short cut across a peat bog. Finally got to the pub and they kindly let us use the camping barn. Following morning set out for Kinder, half way there down came the snow. Long walk back to Glossop and a very scary drive along the A628 to Barnsley. By the time we got there Snake and Woodhead both closed due to snow. Wouldn't have missed it for the world. Good memories. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Steve yes certainly sounds like a adventure to remember, when the snow comes down it really does up there, and so easy to get lost on Bleaklow, it's about the only place I take my GPS with me, thanks Pat
Another great video Pat - not much fun to pitch a tent in those conditions, but okay once you're inside it - the first time I walked Bleaklow from Glossop, up to Dr's Gate and back down through the quarry to Glossop, we had a total whiteout (Boxing Day in the 90's). No snow to start, but by the time we got to Higher shelf stones, knee deep and about minus 7 or 8 - good thing we were fit and had the right gear, food and hot drinks and a map and compass; as we had to use the compass to navigate from Lower shelf to higher shelf stones as we couldn't see more than 20 yds - have camped there in Germany army sleeping bag in summer and the peat groughs are still as boggy as hell - love the place!
Yes Andy it's wild and unforgiving up there on Bleaklow and Kinder but what wonderful places It's the wildness that attracts you and then you need to come back like visiting a old friend. You had some wild weather but you were prepared, what adventurs are made of. All the best for 2019,. Pat
The realisation you’d packed your glasses away with the tent was comedy gold pat 😂 Another great vid 👍

Hi Brian yes agree all tent time is good thanks Pat
pat as always great to see you enjoying the surroundings whatever the weather !
on the knife front ... my brother brought me many years ago a swiss army knife [multi champ]
i thought i would never use it ... how wrong! ... and when it suffered things not opening /shutting [maybe my fault abit]
i sent it to them ... it was returned to Switzerland ... and was fully reconditioned ! .... amazing ... they have a full life warranty
and is used on a daily basis !
was impressed how compact your tent skin compacted ... im sure very essential for wild camps !
look forward to many more !
That was my last dehydrated meal from a couple of years back so time to make another batch, good winter project. Nice to be back out in the hills, Pat
Sounds like a great winter project! Let us know if you make any really interesting combinations, I am always really uninspired when it comes to camping food and opt for buying something convenient.
It was good to see you out in the hills again despite the weather.
@@underwaterdick thanks Pat
really enjoyed the video and always get excited when there's a new upload :) me and my boyfriend always snuggle up with a cup of coffee to watch your videos and they always make our day :) hannah
Hi Hannah, that's great that you enjoy my vidios, I try and vary them as my interests change, just not enough days in the week to do everything I want, thanks for watching Pat
Great video Patrick..Thanks for taking the time..
Hi and thanks for watching, Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 Thanks Pat, an adventure is exactly what I'm looking for, before it's to late.. ;)
The glasses bit was HILARIOUS, as always really enjoyed it Pat 👌🏼👏🏼😁
Yes a memorable moment, and so true, I now check where my glasses are after every camp, I did actually stuff the tent, and glasses into a stuff sack, don't know they survived....... thanks Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 🤣🤣👍🏼
Nice to see you out & about again Pat.....I always look forwards to your videos....Take care out there x
Hi yes always out somewhere, great spot up on Bleaklow, days to remember, thanks Pat
Great channel Pat.
Camping reaffirms one's self sufficiency :-)
Thanks Amin a night in the hills just seems to recharge my system, feel a lot better afterwards, thanks Pat
Great vid Patrick. Thanks. Hope you’re well.
Thanks Daryl my next vidio could be in the Penistone area thanks Pat
I thought the best part of the vid was the " where are my glasses " part , you had a look on your
face that I have often .. Hope you get to visit the Plane Wreck … I was really up for that .
Regards .
3rd time watching this one. One of my faves !! Great work pat massive respect.
Thanks Steve nice of you to say, I was hoping for a view of the lights of Manchester, but it will have to wait for another time, all the best Pat
Hi Pat, I live in Seattle US now but grew up in Manchester and Hull. Great videos and lots of memories from outdoor walking. Great videos
Hi Mark never saw Manchester, maybe next time, thanks Pat
Another fantastic video Pat. I love the way you just tell it as it is, no bullshit just get on with it approach. Don't we live in a gorgeous country some stunning scenery on the way down . Looking forward to your next video. Take care.
Yes feel very lucky to have this beautiful area on my doorstep, back up there soon, thanks Pat
Sat in the beer garden at the Crown in heeley watching this with a gorgeous pint of farmers blonde,Another great video really enjoy watching them, the ones with the beer are my favourites
Lucky you Daz, I,am a couple of miles away fitting oak doors, hopefully when I,ve done them she will let me out for a pint, all the best Pat
PS..The weather is a bit different today :-)
@@contenderdaz Not bad were I,am up at Ecclesall, pity zI,am stuck inside, Pat
Great to see you back Patrick..always look forward to your videos we'll done mate.
Thanks it was great to be out in the hills again, thanks Pat
Hi Pat, and thanks for your, as always, interesting video.
And, in other order of things, I'm always pleased to listen you; I'm from Catalonia, my understanding of spoken English is not as good as I'll would desire, but... you are ALWAYS understandable. Your calm and very clear talk is perfect for learn.
Warm regards from our catalan warm october!
Really kind of you to say, and glad you hear me clearly, my wife says I shout too much, but I want people to hear me clearly, thanks Pat
Rain camping has it's own mood. Makes you appreciate what is dry and warm.
Yes once inside a warm dry tent then the world is a great place to be, thanks Pat
hello Patrick, another wonderful video
For some strange reason Bleaklow is one of my favourite places to walk.I think it's the sense of solitude that you get from visiting there.
Yes agree Simon, the solitude isolation and wild envioroment is what attracts me, beautiful place, thanks Pat
A Sheffielder without a knife!!!!!! he he great video pat
Yes made a error there, hopefully remember next time, thanks Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 let yer off pal, do we still make any?
Yes quite a few. I carry a Sheffield made pen knife with me most of the time.
A great video Patrick that was a wild camp indeed, glad you found your glasses I do like your videos, first time have commented on your videos.
Thanks for the comments, nice to hear from you and thanks for looking at my vidios, I,am surprised my glasses survived but they did, thanks Pat
Hello Pat hope all is well with you it certainly looks like it is. Thanks for another lovely (if wet and windy) Vid, loved it.
Thanks yes another enjoyable camp, all camps are enjoyiable thanks Pat
So nice to see you back Patrick.
Thanks Ian great to be out, Pat
Thanks Rob, getting the right footage and photos are all part of the fun and challenge of a wild camp for me, thanks for comments, Pat
Great vid Pat,love your style, keep warm and dry and stay safe buddy
Thanks for that, did manage to keep warm and dry In the tent, thanks Pat
Excellent video Patrick. So interesting.
Thanks Tony glad you enjoyed it , Pat
Great stuff as always Pat, always look forward to your excellent content and subjects, looking forward to the next one.
Hi Lenny enjoyed this one even though a bit wet, thanks Pat
Hi Patrick we all enjoy your videos and thank you for sharing with us all looking forward to more videos. ATB :)
Thanks for those comments ,thanks Pat
You were great in that TV series The Royal Family. It's great to see you have moved on. Well done mate.
Thanks for that glad you noticed, all the best Pat
Pat
Hope the new year treats you well Patrick. Love from over the border (chesterfield) all the best mate.
Nice to hear from you all that way down south, looking forward to 2019, all the best Pat
great to see you back with another cracking video, keep safe on your adventures and hope another video soon.
Hi Mick yeah managed to drag myself out the tunnels and trees and get back out on the hills, great it was, thanks Pat
