The Kia #Sorento is responsible for a large chunk of Kia's sales figures in North America. It competes in both the Compact and Mid-Size 3-Row Family Crossover SUV segment against the likes of the Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, Nissan Pathfinder, Dodge Durango, Volkswagen Atlas, Mazda CX-9, Hyundai Santa Fe XL, Ford Explorer, etcetera. Despite this very large competitive set, the 'Sorento' nameplate holds the title of being Kia’s 2nd best-selling crossover SUV in America, right behind their beloved “sub-compact utility vehicle”, the Kia Soul.
Kia knew that if they wanted to continue outselling competing SUVs, and consequently keep up the pace with other newly introduced (and recently refreshed) 3-row crossovers… They had to give the Sorento an update that would keep all of the aspects that buyers have come to love about the Sorento. While tweaking the aspects that didn’t necessarily abode so well with consumers.

Marcus, very thorough review for those who want to know every possible detail about the features of the Sorento. If possible, though, it would add immeasurably to your presentation to provide driving impressions. I'd note a couple of points...
You're certainly correct that a minivan (or a full size SUV or Crossover) is a far better choice than any midsize crossover if one needs to provide both seating and cargo capacity for six or more passengers. The third row of seats in virtually any midsize crossover is best reserved for short trips with one or perhaps two (small) adults or a couple of kids. As far as competitors that offer seating for three in the last row, it's worth noting that putting three seat belts in the third row doesn't mean the seat can actually accommodate three passengers. A prime example is the Toyota Highlander with three seat belts in the third row but actually offering less passenger room than the smaller Sorento. In fact, the Sorento provides four plus inches more legroom in the third seat than the Highlander. Even the much longer CX-9 offers three inches less legroom in the third row.
When my wife and I bought a 2018 Sorento earlier this year, its size and efficient use of space were among the most important aspects of our choice. As a family of three with a big dog (who goes almost everywhere) we seldom need third row seating. But when we go out with another family and need seating for six or seven or when we chauffeur my teenage daughter and two or three of her friends, it's great to be able to take a single vehicle or put the teens as far as possible away from the front seat. :) That flexibility comes without the permanent penalty of a vehicle that is difficult to fit into a standard parking space and maneuver in daily traffic.
The Sorento is my wife's daily driver and though she hates to hear me say it they'll have to pry her cold dead fingers from the steering wheel before she gives it up. For us, its Goldilocks size, its wealth of standard features (in SX-L trim), and its great ride and handling in both the jungle of suburban traffic and on long freeway slogs is best of breed.

Hi there, Rick! Absolutely. The Sorento offers incredible bang for your buck. The Sorento is actually rated as a mid-size vehicle, meaning it is larger than the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CRV. Also, another plus is the standard 3-row seating. And the best thing of all is the modest price tag!
A new one has a starting price of around $26k which is the same as some compact SUVs. So, when you think about it. You are getting a mid-size SUV (with 3 rows) at a compact SUV price.

I ve bought Prime Liga Europe SRDi 2.2 (AVTOTOR, assembled in Kalinigrad, Russia). I am really happy about this car: 200 h.p. diesel, great design, smooth drive, a lot of modern staffs. And the price is at that of Honda CR-V. The last sukks.
Thanks Marcus! What I don’t understand from every domestic and almost every non domestic vehicles is lack of CARPETING which was standard issue on the cheapest cars back in the day. If you go further back they had rubber flooring on the cheapest cars but todays floors seems to have this felt like sprayed on texture and it stands in for carpet. On a $50K plus vehicle this really bothers me along with the cheap lower door plastic. Almost every car in the 70’s and 80’s and and 90’s had lower door carpeting where as today it’s all cheap plastic padded, or not. When did we dicide that this was exceptable? Great Review!
Thanks so much for commenting, gene978! Those are all really good questions. Hard touch plastic trim in the lower door panel has pretty much become the norm nowadays. Along with carpets being dealer accessories... Honestly, I think carpets should come as standard equipment on all vehicles (and only all-weather mats should be an extra charge).
I'm sure the times will change once again and we'll all be critiquing on other aspects. At least, technology advancements are at the forefront of this generation. So, I am absolutely excited to see what will be coming out in the very near future.

Does sorrento have more 3rd row room than VW Tiguan ? Can a human fit ?
Yes!! The Kia Sorento has more 3rd row room than the VW Tiguan.
This is because the VW Tiguan actually features the smallest 3rd row seat room in the Compact SUV class... All in all, meaning that the Sorento will offer a bit more space. You can check out the 1:19:48 mark of this video. In that section of the video I demonstrate how easy it is to get into the 3rd row and how spacious it is once actually in the 3rd row (I am approximately 5'11" for reference).
It is important to keep in mind that the Sorento is an overall larger vehicle. Meaning it can compete against smaller SUV entries such as the VW Tiguan or larger SUV entries such as the Chevy Traverse. I mentioned where the Sorento fits into the 3-row SUV segment at the 24:28 mark of this video. I tried my best in that section to describe the Sorento's competition in a more understandable way.
Personally, I recommend if you want an even more spacious 3rd row of seats, you should step up to the Kia Telluride or even give the Hyundai Palisade a look. Those vehicles will offer a lot more 3rd row space than both the Tiguan and the Sorento, but will carry a slightly higher price tag.

What's with all the excessive engine revving with every reviewer? We get it!!! It has an engine, an accelerator and an exhaust. 2 times pushing on the accelerator pedal is sufficient. So many car reviewers just keep pushing the pedal as if we can't hear the exhaust. WE HEAR IT!
Thanks so much for commenting, Barry Fellure! I am sorry if I went a bit too over-the-top with the excessive engine revving. I usually rev the vehicles that I review so that viewers can get a good feel for how a vehicle sounds (from both the exhaust pipe and from under the hood). I'll definitely take your advice into consideration when I record my future reviews.

⚠️ Kia is a total RIP OFF! My mom had a 2014 Kia Sorento. She was on the highway and suddenly her engine totally shut off! She almost had an accident. I also found out Kias where burning due to that problem. It seems her Kia dealer is scared to touch it because it has been sitting there since September! I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANY KIA EVER!! ⚠️

I've heard this anecdotal nonsense before. These problems are almost always due to poor maintenance. My Kia has been trouble free for 100k. The difference between me and the idiots? I perform the required maintenance per the manual.
