I like both and have driven both, but after spending a week and several hundred miles in a 2018 Grand Cherokee, my vote goes to the Jeep. The absence of a third row is not a negative for me. The Sorento just has more of a minivan look and feel to me. That phase in my life has passed.
I got a new 2016 Grand Cherokee LTD for just under $50,000 two years ago. It has Quadra-Trac, Quadra-Drive and Quadra-Lift suspension? The best part, though, is the engine: 3.0 liter V6 diesel. It's rated the same towing as the Hemi (a little over 7,000 pounds), and I can pretty easily knock down 35 mpg on the highway. Two years into owning it (a little over 15,000 miles) and I'm still in love. The diesel is the thing that puts this little beauty over the top. And 18" rims! Anything bigger is counterproductive and for looks only.
Hyundai, Kia, Genesis are on a roll with the transmissions.
Haven’t had any issues with my 17 Sorento! Drives like a breeze through the winter in Washington with the stock tires.
It’s a Kia 💩 …… that Sorento 🤢🤮
Fake plastic in the grill? That plastic is 100% genuine buddy. Kia don't screw around.
East Coast Resident it’s 100% plastic. Still sucks
Hahahaha 😂
You made my day
East Coast Resident lolz
😂 thank you for this comment!
This niggah called them trucks.
What isn't discussed is just how competent the Kia Sorento's AWD system is. With it's locking differential that sets it apart from MANY other vehicles in it's class. The only thing hindering it is ground clearance but for light off roading or snowy unplowed roads. That V6 is very potent and will do 90% of folks just fine.
I like how you sharply decide which car is better, at the end. Most of the youtubers doesn’t. Subscribed.
Had a Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel from new for 30 months and 25000 miles. It’s been absolutely spot on. Love it!
Great review
I have a 18 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk 6.2Lsc and a 18 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 5.7L. I used to have a 15 Grand Cherokee SRT and I put over 60,000 miles on it and never had one issue. I'm not sure where people get the perception that these cars are not reliable but I've never had a problem and I love them so much that I have two 2018's!
Nice review..Thanks.
What's fake plastic?
B Blackwell I think gloss plastic but it isn’t fake. Lol
Plastic that is intended to emulate another material but is obviously and disappointingly fake. I suppose.
DarkRendition then wouldn't it be fake whatever material. Like I guess he means fake chrome in the grille.
that’s what i’m sayin
B Blackwell it means that it looks like alluminum or something else but its plastic
I have a 2006 Grand Cherokee and love the loose/crashy feel of the car. It's just so much fun to drive off and on road.
Grand Cherokee owners dont want the 3rd row seat , compare the Durango nxt time !
Durango is Dodge and not Jeep
Just wait for the Jeep to start crapping out after 2 years...
got a 2015 JGC and its going strong!
Yeah basically the jeep is actually pretty reliable these days. Back around 2001 it was stereotypical to hear about transmission issues here or there that's all been resolved years ago when they switched to the Mercedes transmission, and now the ZF 8 speed is bullet proof
I think the Kia is the better overall car but the fun truck is the grand Cherokee.
Jeep is reliable with a better engine
@@absundog9938 jeep reliable hhhhh
kia is top 5 on reliability
Audilife then u on the wrong site buddy
@@absundog9938 Or you just don't know the FACTS
Kustu why tf would I care about a comment written over a year ago? And plus you would get the CORRECT facts if you look on better websites 🤣
Wasn't this review done over a month ago?
It’s not a F*king Truck!!
I have a white Jeep GC overland edition with a 3.0 diesel... I really like it, drives smooth, has plenty of torque and power to tow, and it's very quiet for a diesel.. and really nice inside with a ton of features also can lift itself pretty high for off roading. I'll stick with that for a little while, so far it's my favorite suv.
The Differences
If you want surround view camera and IIHS safety SUV, answer is;
Sorento.
If you want more power and better capabilities or truck like, answer is;
Grand Cherokee.
This guy is the best presenter you guys have.
And the brand snobs here yet saying Kia is crap etc?
I know it's so annoying
They know nothing about cars there kids fanboys
Have the same car he is showing- safety features are amazing. You could die with the cruse control on and as long as your hand remained on the wheel it would drive until you ran out of gas. Also got lifetime warranty on power train from dealer and 8500 off sticker
which of the is better kia sorento or jeep grand cheroke ? Plis
The Kia Sorento looks promising and will be super reliable, but.......... It's really hard to resist a Jeep especially if it's a Grand Cherokee!!!!!
I'm not sure about your "super reliable" thought. Long term reliability isn't there. Not saying FCA is better.. just saying I think you're confusing Kia's long warranty and actual long reliability.
Russell C Kia is very reliable don’t go spewing Kia hate
Power of Pine Sol let's not forget who helped Hyundai/kia with that 2.4l ( Chrysler and Mitsubishi)
Trenton_ A the GDI engines have nothing to do with Mitsubishi or Chrysler (all in house by Hyundai). Mitsubishi and Hyundai sold there shares of the Global Engine Alliance in 2009, probably because FCA manufactures pieces of shit and they wised up to it.
Knuckles300 the hyundai/kia 2.0t and the 2.4 are the same design from the GEMA alliance just updated and Mitsubishi's 4b11,4b11t and 4b12 are the same designs just updated and Chrysler's 2.4 is the same design as the others I mentioned but when Fiat took over it was updated and is now unreliable look it up instead of being so quick to dought someone thanks for your input tho
I have the 2018 Grand Cherokee Sterling Edition Equipped With The 5.7L Hemi and I've Never Been Happier. The best part? I'm paying less for this car then the Kia. Jeep For The Win All Day Everyday!
There's nothing like a Jeep
Da Car Guy Come on back when you drop the first transmission out of that piece of shit! Don't forget, you own a Fiat and nothing more. It's only a matter of time before Fiat is looking for a buyer for the pitiful Dodge, Ram, Jeep line.
Da Car Guy yep I got one too, it’s definitely amazing
"Hose A" So the 8 speed german designed ZF Grand Cherokees shifts like butter but how would you know the Difference between a Grand Cherokee and the troublesome 9 speed FWD Cherokee? How about those Japanese cars with CVT transmissions ho are those working out??
Hose A that's exactly why I LEASED my Jeep. Would Never Own One
The Jeep has a 24.6 gallon gas tank which gets you 500+ miles in between fill-ups.
Not the way i drive
Man, I have both of these and they have done well. I like the KIA's navigate system much better. I had to get use to the steering system, slightly, slightly go cartish.
Had a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited brand new, within a week the fan relay blew,at 39000 miles the transmission would not go in reverse,4 broken window lift mechanism, air bag light, and radiator that cracked and broke apart at the neck(Plastic) and HVAC in dash broke that required to remove the dash and Steering column. Traded that POS at 72,000 also bad resale value, the dealers Know the problems with Jeeps for a KIA SORENTO SX AWD 2018 November last year and we love it,very quiet, smooth ride and i don't have the AAA on speed dial anymore!!!10yr-100,000 mile warranty can't beat that!!
Don C Nunez well u must of got a bad one because mine hasn’t had a problem yet and I have owned it for 3 years
My neighbor 2 house from me has a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee i know for a fact been in the dealer 3 times for transmission issues and cooling issues but its still under warranty, told him get rid and trade for something more reliable, after the warranty goes Jeeps are MONEY PITS!!
How did I know that the KIA would be selected as winner by the reviewer in this video.🤔
"Basically what I'm saying is..." Kia paid us for this comparison, and I'm trying really hard to make the lack lustre Kia look better than the Jeep. -MG
This was a fair review and comparison. People who need a vehicle for more serious towing or off-road use will be more inclined to the Grand Cherokee. The Sorento is better for people using it as a commuter vehicle with good road manners; and, really, 5,000 pounds towing capacity will be plenty for most users. One important note: to get the full towing capability of the Grand Cherokee (6,200 in the V-6 models, 7,200 with the V-8), one must order it with the Trailer Tow Group IV package; without that package, it is only rated at 3,500 pounds.
But which one has better resale ability?
“The fake plastic in the grill”...This guy must be screwing the editor or owner of AutoGuide.I have no clue how these guys are auto reviewers.
Smooth Operator I’m pretty sure he meant to say the fake metal lol
So used to hatchback parallel parking and thinking I'm good. looking to upgrade to suv, parallel parking on this seems pretty hard.. sigh
All you guys are just having trouble coping with the fact that Kia is actually making a nice car now. Yes Jeep is American and I love Jeep too. But I have had both a new Kia and a new Jeep. And tbh there both wonderful cars. And the Kia did out preform the Jeep in many ways. And so did the Jeep. There both great cars in there own ways. Just depends when YOU personally need the vehicle for!!!
Legend has it my Jeep is still in the mechanics shop.
What year and version do you have and what problems do you have?
Never took either off road, only on pavement!! Would love to see both on and off road, with stock tires!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My 1999 Jeep Cherokee Xj has almost 350,000 miles and is just like new.....4.0 AW4 BEAST!!!!!!!!!
Both are really nice SUV’s I currently own a 2015 Kia Optima SXL I’m trying to figure out which Kia I should get as a graduation gift the Stinger or Sorento?
Lavonte A stinger
Stingerr
I laughed so hard at this
Get a Stinger
Power of Pine Sol me too!!!!!! Lmao, like he got what he wanted speaking about cars the he doesn’t have
15 years ago we'd be laughing at Kia. The Grand Cherokee is getting old; but still a good car. I'd take the Sorento, however.
Kia looks dope
This guy looks like a turtle without a shell
I bought a 2012 Kia Sorento and have been really pleased with it. At the time no one could match the value for money and I've been pleasantly surprised with how capable the awd system is for not being 4wd. That being said I feel like Sorento's are becoming overpriced and becoming the exact thing I was trying to avoid in 2012.
Anything that comes standard with front wheel drive is not a truck. That’s why I love the Jeep so much for keeping the superior drive wheel set up alive
The materials inside of the Jeep look so much better.
Who can turn down the grand cherokee
Jeep looks better and is more luxurious with the summit/ overland trim.
More refined, reliable, less expensive, better warranty, 3rd row seat, better interior quality, and safer...
Hmmm why would anyone get a jeep for just a family car? Awd? I'd rather get a 4runner in that case.
Nice work Kia. People need to wake up.
leki kelekona Kia: less fun to drive, uninspired drive train small 3rd row seats
leki kelekona Because in two years my jeep is only going to lose 5000 in its value
leki kelekona The Kia basically becomes worthless when you drive it off the lot
leki kelekona first of all, 4 runner looks like a toy. But that’s beside the point. Jeep is way more refined, better interior quality and safer for a couple thousand more, the Jeep also looks more sharp.
I wish he would have taken them both on a reasonable offroad course. What I find odd is the tires on that Jeep look pretty useless for offroad use.Which is a shame considering Jeep's offroad heritage.I'm also curious as to whether or not the KIA can do any offroading.
isn't JGC rated for 7200 lbs towing?
Mike probably with the V8. But with the V6 that he had in his, is about 5,000-6,000 lbs depending on set up. I think he said 6,100 max
Both are very decent SUV's, I'd take the GC because it can tow a little more and is more capable off road. The Sorento is better in mpg. Both have good features.
Fruitable YT Literally said in the video that they both get 21 mpg combined
John Frantz Ik. But at the same time my uncle owns a GC and a relative of my family's owns a Kia Sorento, the GC (with the Pentastar) that gets less than the Sorento.
That was a sthpectacular review!
Lolol
😂😂😂
Grand Cherokee 5.7 V8 Hemi is hard to beat.
There’s a reason the kia’s are cheaper, I had a friend who was stupid and BOUGHT a 2018 Kia Sorrentino, didn’t lease one. After the first month the wiring harness failed throughout the whole vehicle, and after that was fixed the engine started having major issues and it was a brand new car! Only a few months old!
Can't compare these two...but Jeep Grand Cherokee all day
I like the wheels on the Jeep. They look like a modern twist of the early 2000s Grand Cherokee wheels.
jesse munoz agree it's called the Heritage rim , will be standard on 2019 Overland !
I love all the comments of people talking about jeeps being junk, unreliable, and so on. I own a 2004 Grand Cherokee with 201k and still starts runs and drives anywhere you want to go it has never left me on the side of the road. Explain to me how that is junk or unreliable the 4.0 straight sixes are tough motors keep proper maintenance and they'll never let you down.
I love my Grand Cherokee!
kevin szarell I had a grancherokee drove it for 25 yr never had a problem.
Right on i had an 04 grandcherokee as well and i sold it to my friend with 160,000 with no issues at all and his still driving it to this day with no problem i bought a 2011 with the v6 pentestar also no issues and past it on to my mom wich she loves and now a got a 2016 with the hemi no kia is better then a jeep
At the back the jeep grand Cherokee and kia sorento has the same light extiror but more different
I just debated on Kia sorento w 3rd Row or Durango and went with the Durango for few more features and more Room but the loaded Sorento is sharp. Lower models not so much
Sorento's lower trim models are more affordable than Durango's.
Not really a lot of cargo space in these less or the same as an Outback or TourX.
I’ve driven both, I’d pick the kia over the Jeep, unless you want a suv/crossover thats made to go off road.
Respect to the legendary Jeep Grand Cherokee all the time. Jeep always # 1.
I like both but price and the versatility of a 3rd row seat is making me lean toward the kia. Not to mention I have owned both jeep and kia and so far kia has FCA beat in the reliability department. Although FCA does offer a mopar LIFETIME warranty which if you buy their vehicles you should purchase 5he warranty
This comparison wasn’t fair. You compared a fully loaded Kia to a limited JGC why didn’t you guy compare a JGC Overland or Summit?
What are other grills made of? BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Toyota, Mazda, VW all have plastic grills. So does the Jeep.
Dude people like this idiot hate kia in everything
it should be plastic to prevent high injuries
My Jeep crapped out in two weeks 😂 got rid of it a year and a half later because it never stopped. Got me a Sorento and love it!
"Sufferin' succotash! " all I can say is my wife has a jeep { and it always got something going on with it }
A lot of people dont know anything about the jeep grand cherokee or the Kia sorento but yet you see them talking crap about one or the other. I own a jeep grand cherokee summit with white seats and fully loaded and my wife has a sorento fully loaded too and the jeep is a little more luxurious than the sorento and so far both of my cars warranties are awesome, sometimes is not the warranty is the dealer weather they are good or bad at their jobs.
It's a hard decision to me. If I could buy the Sorento the third row seat it would be folded all the time, and it's easier to find parts (in my country). The Grand Cherokee is not a bad choice, but parts are more expensive.
Did he said " Trucks " at 0:40?
Hybrids Vader I think he said "Truss" lol
lynn thacks lol.
These cars aren't in the same league. At least not in South Africa
Kia is a car underneath, so of course it is going to ride slightly better. The Jeep can tow up to 7400 pounds and has unibody construction. You tested a Limited-grade GC. Test an Overland and especially Summit GC and say that the interior isn't as posh as a Kia.
The Kia is a good crossover. However, it's true class is the Highlander, Acadia, and CX9 on the small end, and Durango, Explorer, Pilot, and Traverse on the larger end. It may be somewhat competitive here and there with some of them(Kia's infortainment is great), but there is a reason why its sales are depressed against those competitors.
Gimme the Jeep!
Kind of weird comparison. I think Sorento goes more against Highlander and Pilot or Santa Fe than a Jeep Cherokee
Why the sorento sxl &jeep grand cherokee isn,t summit ????
Should have reviewed the Durango instead
Wrong Jeeps capability is useful. How is kias luxury useful? Luxury doesn’t help with towing or in rough terrain aka snow! Jeep is the better tool.
Jeep is a tool, as you say. Sorento is a people mover -- comfortable, reliable, handsome.
Delcy Voisine u take ur people mover. That’s fine , but when the weather turns to shit no one is choosing Kia over a Jeep!
I guess it depends on what use you want. From what I gathered the KIA had more cargo area and was the better people mover. While the JEEP is better offroad.
Didn't they take a Sorento up Hell's Gate with just detached sway bars and all terrains? I got my mother in law a Grand Cherokee but that is impressive.
Russ Freed check more videos and talk after that
Compare against the Dodge Durango GT or RT
The sorento hands down
Vel Boone sorento hands up, grand Cherokee hands down. Vel u got it backwards.
Kia's new slogan should be, "Kia, sorry, its a kia"
Love Kia, hate Jeep, but I’d buy the GC no question.
Jeep.
May not be as luxourois but its more than enough for me
Is this seriously a debate? I've never heard these two models in the same sentence. They're for totally different audiences aren't they? But I guess Jeep has dropped the V8 option on any trim below the SRT for this year so they arent as macho as they were even a year ago
According to the Jeep website there is a option for a V8 5.7 starting at the limited trim
The two vehicles are within a few hundred dollars of each other, but he rounded the price of the KIA down $500, and rounded the Jeep up $2000. The jeep has a much stronger drive train, and superior off road capability. Not actually an apples for apples comparison. It is in fact do you want a stain wagon for your family, or a vehicle that will take you nearly any place you want to go.
It should’ve been Sorento VS Durango
I agree that the comparison is with the Durango with the Sorento due to the fact that they’re both 3-row crossovers. However, Autoguide only had the Grand Cherokee available.
They’re basically the same but the doge has a even worse interior
I think the Jeep is even too badass for the Kia, Kia don’t even compare to Chrysler lol
Something wrong with your mic.
Trucks? No. Unibody frame.. front drive
No
dygardion 91 Yes, that's what I thought when I heard him say " trucks ". If anything, the Honda Ridgeline is much closer to a truck than these twos.
dygardion 91 JGC is rwd/4wd
Trenton_ A But it's still a unibody design.
But I can get a 6.4 hemi in the jeep
Mitchell Mackenzie engine doesn’t mean it’s a truck.
Jeep looks better and its stronger. For almost the same price as sorento,i prefer to sacrifice the 3rd row.🙂
Is it me, or the Kia Sorento’s back looks like the Jeep Grand Cherokee Back?
If anything, the Jeep Cherokee back looks like the Sorento's back.
Delcy Voisine Jeep was made first
You can start from here:
Sorento = Front wheel drive based 4WD
Grand Cherokee = Real wheel drive based 4WD
Grand Cherokee doesn't have extra 2 seats + not enough cameras also cross over fans doesn't like SUV.
If you want a more luxurious Jeep Grand Cherokee, there is the Overland trim and for superior luxury there’s the Summit... which brings the price in the $55,000 range.
Billy Sou no it brings it in the 60 thousand range which is way overpriced for that outdated shit
Power of Pine Sol Referring to base price.
SUV vs MUV ??
Sorento has low power engine options. Jeep has Hellcat and SRT engines!
These days Kia handily beats FCA when it comes to build quality and they're about even when it comes to drivetrain reliability.
It’s a Kia great affordable vehicle for most who don’t go anywhere near off-road or snow.
it's car with a little truck body, awd comes in almost anything now but the jeep goes where you point it.
Like how he didn’t mention the Jeep did horribly in the crash tests lol.
Hyundai and Kia are not just the very best vehicles value wise, but also have the very best warranties in the automotive market ... bar none.
Grand Cherokee
The rear ends look very similar
