    1) Off Shoulder from a diagonal
    2) Off shoulder from the horizontal
    3) Off Shoulder straight down
    4) Straight in butt strike
    5) Both hand slam long part into target
Got it! A lot of the stuff you said about being close to the body is true for punches as well!

Just make sure you get the nerves/pressure points and never hit the following areas... unless use of deadly force is necessary:
      1. Neck/Face/Head
      2. Spine
      3. Knees
      4. Kidneys
      5. Sternum
I also hear about rubbing very hard into the Solar Plexus and lower Rib Cage if the aggressor is too close to extend the baton.
Followed by what I guess would be using your left palm in an upward strike/push at the neck and then extending the baton, following up last with an upper left leg strike. or whichever pressure point/nerve is appropriate given the position of the aggressor.

I really like using and teaching this weapon because it is easy to carry and conceal (MO allows such for citizens). It is underrated as a weapon, especially if you are facing a knife attack. This weapon gives you distance which is absolutely KEY if facing a knife. Knives are so deadly dangerous in all scenarios and DISTANCE is what will save you. Even if “fighting” knife to knife, there are rarely winners. I have seen many “knife fighters” in the Emergency room over the years. None of the fighters fair well. They usually both loose to a major degree. Long story, but this weapon is so much more useful than people realize. Learn to hit with the 5 basic strike angles and it will serve you well.

The best basic baton tutorial on UA-cam!
I liked how you put emphasis on how to strike.
Over reaching is a very common mistake.
My favorite aspect of a telescopic baton is the range.
You can easily keep at bay the attacker while retreating.
I did fencing in my youth (sabre) and that style perfectly match baton defense.

Back a few decades ago I became an ASP instructor after 2 days of INTENSE class.
We did at least 3K strikes, yes that is 3 THOUSAND.
I have used one on the streets MANY times and it was MUCH more effective than my favorite HARD wood baton.
They taught us to target the hands & arms ,removing their ability to strike.
btw I much prefer the 21" and not the 26" your using

A fun demonstration might be taking one of those cheap Chinese versions and breaking it by doing the fifth strike that you showed.
In my training, I've become somewhat addicted to that fifth strike. Most of my combinations against a bag end up using that kind of strike, especially when I'm using anything shorter than a bo.

Great video. Batons have the usage.
1 if your by houses and an aggressive dog attacks you. A baton is a useful tool.
2 if a person or a pet is left in a hot car or having a medical emergency and glass needs to be broken, i Baton is a great tool.
3 its use as a push bar with both hands in a crowd to move people back is useful.
4 its a last ditch self defense tool when taser or oc spray dont work.
If your in room or tight enclosure and loose something and have to retrieve it. 😂 thats when its also useful.
It can make a good back scratcher as well

    Key notes:
    - Do not strike with big arms. (Whole arm greatly swinging to strike)
    - You are fighting behind your baton. Remember.
    - Swing your body as you hit.
    - Straight strikes
    - Horizontal strikes
    - Angular strikes (Swing from shoulder)
    - Bottom strike
    - Hold the two ends of your baton and push your enemy using the long piece of metal in the middle (Controversial)
    - Make sure it's legal in your place to carry a baton with you
    Extra tips:
    - Hit knees, inner knees, hips, elbows, shoulders, wrists (If they are holding a weapon), etc. (Do not hit neck, ribs, chest, and head. You would kill your opponent.)
It is recommended you watch the full video for proper understanding

Quick story, today my wife wanted to take a walk down the Columbus GA river walk trail. north to south. I brought my expandable baton ( 1st. time I ever brought it with me ) while walking I explaind to my wife what it was, how to use it, and I heard this specific trail had some reports of crimes. we walked 1.5 miles south then turned back and walked North to the car. Halfway back I looked back and noticed a SHADY-looking person ( shirtless, tattooed, muscular, upset looking the kind of look you get when you are on a mission that requires anger ) Coming up fast behind us. we never passed him so he came out of NO WHARE. as we approached 4 others sitting on a park bench I looked back for the 4th time and he was gone, he ducked in the trees without a sound. I asked the people sitting on the bench if they saw someone behind us and they said Yes, he walked into some tall trees. I would call that a close call. very greatfull we found others on the trail and I had a backup plan (the baton). please be safe everyone.

Target for incapacitating strikes at the vulnerable joints are: hands, wrists, elbows/forearms, knees. A critical issue is practicing fast foot-work both advancing & more importantly retreating whilst maintaining the strikes. It's v. important to keep the target at striking distance, if it can take the first blow(s)/or they are ineffective & close the distance with you quickly & tie you up in a grapple the advantage of the weapon will be lost. If u have to strike at all strike v. hard with the first blows, don't be tentative. Head strikes & eyes are a last resort target if things are really serious. Remember, violence is the last resort, keep yr eyes open to avoid putting yourself in an isolated situation with a bad guy to begin with, & if confronted, stay controlled & look about you for what you can use against him, don't panic, view them as a predator yourself - how can u draw attention to the situation & intimidate them that yr not easy prey - which is what they're after.. Personal attack alarms are also useful as a deterrent, bad guys fear them.

I have decided to purchase another laptop, being i am now having other issues with it, besides notification for your self defense classes. Even though i am retired PO, i am still obligated to obtain our County Weapons Permit, so the expandable baton can be carried legally either open and/or concealed. In a future class, can you demonstrate maintenance (ex: breakdown, keeping it dry, don't oil, etc.) for those who may not be familiar with it. Will keep checking for your classes until i get things rectified. Stay safe. Doug.

You cannot carry it concealed without a ccw permit in Florida but you can carry it in plain site in Florida. That is my understanding. I am not a lawyer.

Some batons come with a holster (usually nylon) included, and those can be fitted into your belt.

You can also take a foot of half inch copper pipe, put a threaded compression fitting on it, add a 1" adapter fitting to the end of it and voila, a piece "for your water heater".

I live in a state where civilians can legally carry an expandable baton if they have a permit. You have to attend a training class. After the class , paperwork, and successfully completing a background check you will receive a permit. Not sure I agree with very much of was presented here. If you strike someone on the head or even the arm, the baton is considered a deadly weapon. For legal self-defense, your best bet is striking the thigh between the knee and hip. Strike hard there. It really hurts. A baton is your best defense against aggressive dogs. Nearly everyone in the class was there post a dog problem. A 26" ASP friction will fit in a blue jean front pocket. Also the longest ASP button-loc. Friction locks are difficult to close relative to ASP's newer designs.

your cheap batons like the one you showed actually works fine with a few mins of work. Pull it apart, very lightly lubricate the end of the inside facing ends. Fast to come out and because it's fast it gets the speed up to friction fit itself in to place.

A bit of a late answer, but it depends a bit on how big you are, since the biggest weapon isn't necessarily the best one.
Myself, I'm 174 cm tall, and I carry 21" Smith & Wesson expandable baton on duty, and it works perfectly for me.
For someone smaller, a 16" may be the best option; the thing is that you need to remain balanced when you swing, even if you swing hard, and if it's too big for you, that will result in decreased balance and lighter hits.

Use the buttstock strike to the sternum or if possible to the collar bone. Very painful for the attacking rube. The two hand strike (No. 5) is in fact very practical. I had to use that several times while deployed overseas, in CQB situations, areas where I could not use a firearm and a knife was not practical due to the need for speed in dispatching the target(s).

Try looking into the Smartlock baton by Bonowi IPE. A EUROPEAN company it has a button release instead of slamming it on the ground.
