Enchanted April: A Fly Fishing Adventure in Central, NY

- Spring is here and I got out on a beautiful April Day to chase wild brook and brown trout with my fly rod on one of my favorite medium sized upstate/central NY freestone streams. Things were slow in the morning but picked up in the afternoon with a bunch of beautiful wild browns and brook trout including a huge wild brown that gave me an amazing fight!

I agree it is one of my favorite places to fish. I literally stumbled upon once driving and had my flyrod in the car and caught a little brown on my first cast and said to myself I need to come back and fish this someday. A few years later and its one of my favs. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Great video, nice brown, but the question of the day is: Which do you prefer, a slow day and one or two big fish or an active day and lots of smaller fish. I can honestly say that I am not sure which I prefer!
Hmmmm that is an excellent question. For filming purposes I probably prefer an action packed day. But sometimes I will go out just to target the big boys

Yes absolutely some sleepers. I drove by a stocked creek a few minutes from this creek and there were 4 guys lined up fishing the same spot. I am not a big fan of stockers but they give people an easy option to catch/cook and take the pressure off these types of streams!
@@deaddriftoutdoors2940 Yes, I agree. But some of those stocked fish become residents of those creeks and get to be pretty big. 😍 I'm not up on the stocking practices now, but years ago the state plus Carpenters Brook hatchery stocked a few of those creeks. The state limited their stocking after awhile. I haven't been fly fishing there in a few years. In any case your videos are a pleasure to watch. It's like I'm fishing with you, picking the same spots. Thank you! 👍

Refreshing to see a trout fishing video that does not involve euro nymphing!
Yeah I have never tried it but it does look super effective so don't hate on me if I try it someday, but I honestly like the style of fishing I do so probably won't change anytime soon.
Nice creek, I fish a similar size last weekend. Hooked 5 fish, couldn’t get one to stay on long enough to net it. Tough start of the season for me!

Hi John 👋 Great 👍job on all your videos, I not only enjoy the fish content but also enjoy the variety of Nature you blend in as well!! Do you sharpen your flies before casting them? A needle sharp hook point will give you greater penetration with less effort! Just because a new or never fished hook has a point doesn't necessarily mean that it is sharp. If the hook point can drag across the top of your thumbnail and not grab immediately it isn't sharp 😒 hope this helps you with a higher percentage of hook ups! I have been fly fishing for 48 years now and owned and operated a fly fishing shop in the Northern Finger Lakes Region for several years. Autoimmune disease has mostly taken me out of the game unfortunately! Watching your videos has reignited the flame in me and I am going to push myself to go fly fishing again Thank You 😊🙏. I am even considering tying on my Nor-vise again which I love, I have one of the original ones made by Norm Norlander check him out here on UA-cam.
I rarely check for sharpness but that is a great tip, I will try to remember to check next time! I'm sorry your health has affected your ability to get out there but am glad my vids have sparked the urge to get back out there!! Hope to see you out catching trout sometime!!

Yeah he was so fit and such amazing coloration a real specimen for sure. I have caught bigger but not prettier. I love that my vids are part of your morning routine thats awesome!!
