I am from the southern tier/finger lakes region of upstate NY. I left the area when I was about 12 and have recently moved back. In between I have lived in the adirondacks, nothern and southern VT as well as college in ME. I have been fishing since I was 4 but didn't get into hunting until more recently. My favorite type of fishing is chasing wild trout on small streams with a fly rod. However I also have spinning and trolling gear and own a kayak, a 17ft center console w/outboard and a float tube which I like to use to chase trout and bass on larger bodies of water. I have been hunting deer for the past several years, mostly on my own 35 acres but do explore state land as well. I also have killed a few turkeys and other small game. I would like to get more serious with the video aspect of my outdoor adventures and have purchased a newer gopro and accessories which I am looking forward to using this year to get some of my adventures on film. Hope you enjoy....
My First Buck in 3 Years!! NY Rifle Season - Southern Tier, NY
It had been a few years since I had gotten a buck so I was really hoping to have an opportunity this season. I got a doe during archery and had a few encounters with bucks but no shots. The first few days of rifle season I saw some smaller bucks and lots of does but no mature bucks. I almost didn't get up this day but I am glad I did cause I got a shot at a nice 10 pt buck coming in to check a doe. I got a nice shot on his shoulder and he didn't go far. Great way to break the drought!!

Its been a couple years since I have been able to take a deer with a bow. I have had some opportunities but things just didn't quite play out in favor. I had hoped to break my streak and get a doe in the freezer early in the season and after a missed shot the first week got a good shot and harvested a nice doe for the freezer on a beautiful October day.
Amazing Dry Fly Action (ISOs and BWOs) | Autumn on the West Branch Delaware River - Hancock, NY
Переглядів 6 тис.Місяць тому
All the local creeks have been super low with little rain recently so it made sense to head to the best tailwater around and I got out for a day on the WEST BRANCH DELAWARE RIVER. The upper WB was a little high and turbid so made my down to Hancock, NY. The fishing was great with plenty of ISOs and a mix of BWOs in the afternoon to keep the fish rising. Got a bunch of wild browns and rainbows o...
Wild Trout Slam on Overlooked Stream | Fly Fishing - Southern Tier, NY

Decided to fly fish a stream I had drove by/over many many times on my way to other destinations. Had a hunch it held wild trout as it was a trib to a system with wild and stocked fish and looked like it had decent flows and habitat. It wasn't my greatest day of flyfishing and I didn't catch any big ones but I did find 3 species of wild trout and might have just scratched the surface of a reall...

Fly Fishing a New Wild Trout Stream | Finger Lakes Region - NY

I have drven by this small stream for years. I always suspected it might have wild trout and one day I finally stopped and took a few casts. I was pleasantly suprised with a wild brown in the first small pool I fished. I did some scouting and found some access points. The next week I dedicated the day to exploring and fishing this hidden gem. I had some challenges but eventually found success a...

12 Tips/Tactics for Finding and Fishing Brook Trout Streams - Central, NY
Congratulations on a nick buck! I really enjoyed your video. Great production value with the drone footage and everything. Keep up the good work! - Hat tip from the ADKS
My grandparents had a camp there and we would go every weekend in the summer in the 1970’s what a great peaceful place
Nice buck ! Great southern tier deer right there. We don’t have big agriculture around here so deer are fed naturally for the most part. Dave.
This is the kid that showed you my UA-cam account that all showed you my buck I shot last year
Thats awesome man I remember you! Thanks for checking out my vid and commenting bud I appreciate it !!
Beautiful buck! Congrats!

Poor guy never had a chance. It's been a long time since I had some deer meat.
Nope he pretty much walked right to me. Tough to miss broadside from 90 yards !
Congratulations Jon and a good shot. You have had a good season
Thanks so much I appreciate it!
Always a nice suprise from you jon!! Right there with you!
Thanks bud I appreciate it!
🎉 Dramatic end to that really nice buck, thanks for taking us along!!!

Nice buck. Backstraps for dinner tonight
Yes indeed!
You did sutures in my finger last night and the ER doc you were talking about I know!! Dr J. Grew up with them and his mother they go to my church!! It’s a small world. Great job and no pain at all today and I’m working!!
Haha I remember you! It is certainly a small world! Hope your finger healed up nicely! Thanks for checking out the channel!
very nice, gets me excited to fish for trout again. Cool to see the silk line back out :)
Yeah it adds a nice element to it!
So here's my Christmas wish for you: 100K subscribers with about a million views per vid. All translating to some serious cash to fund your ever improving skillset with video, video editing and more time on the water!
I wish! I'd be happy with 10k subscribers... Slow and steady wins the race. Thanks as always for your kind words!
Ok jon...moon is full...rut is on...get back up in your treestand ...be careful and whack a nice one!
Thanks man I'll try!
You’re on my home stream we should hook up sometime.
Yeah I try to get up there 2-3 times a season
@ There are some giants in there. We fish many of the same streams I appreciate the fact you don’t name them in your videos. Enjoy the videos.
No doubt, fall is the best season for flyfishing.
It certainly is hard to beat!
It really is. Have had more bites and catches in two outting then I did all summer and the fish are much bigger . Making it hard to sit in the tree stand knowing the trout are biting .
John, great video. Love the bamboo rod!
Thanks! It's a fun rod to fish with, and it's definitely a work of art.
John your videos never disappoint. Always great at capturing your surroundings. The epitome of trout don't live in ugly places. Great job capturing your takes.
Thanks so much, I appreciate your comment!
"The epitome of trout don't live in ugly places." Well said!
How are the tick? Horrendous down here in central PA at this time of year.
Haven't had much of a problem
Yes! Fly fishing on the river in the fall is truly BEAUTIFUL! Thanks for the great video!
I agree it is a beautiful time of year!
Hi John, loving your videos and so jealous. Here in the UK it's closed season for brownies on the rivers although we can fish for grayling. Do you have a 'closed season' in the US for spawning? Cheers
In NY we used to have a closed season but now they leave pretty much everything open catch and release all year
That is an absolutely beautiful setup.
Thanks so much I agree!
Where is this stream? What stream is it?
It's a secret...lol
Madison County NY
This must have been about 3 weeks ago?
yeah it was mid october
John, you won't believe me but I drove by you as you were finishing the day and walking back to your car. I wanted to roll down my window and yell "Dead Drift Outdoors!!!!" I have been waiting for this video. You do a great job with these videos!!
No doubt, fall is the best season for flyfishing.
Haha thats awesome!! You should of yelled I would have got a kick out of it!!
Nice looking water and fish. Does the rod builder have a website. I don't have, and don't want an Instagram or Facebook account. Tried link can't get in.
This is Teddy... I dont have a website done yet...sorry...we pretty much sell out of our shop...but we are working on a site
Great day out right there! I was planning on redoing an old bamboo fly rod this winter. Now I'm really torn on whether or not I want to keep it a fly rod or switch it up to another inland centerpin build.
Ive never used a centerpin
@deaddriftoutdoors2940 I started out teaching myself to fly fish, then tie flys, then make furled thread leaders and that was fun and all, but ever since I went to a centerpin I would much rather use it than my fly rod most days. For small pocket water, riffles, or heavy fishing (think salmon river) you can't beat the fly rod, but when there's room and more than 1' of water earthworms or flies under a float on a centerpin is super effective. It's basically what looks like a fly reel with tighter tolerances and (usually) no drag system besides feathering the spool mounted on a spinning rod.
What a gorgeous stream on an autumn. Thanks for sharing the adventure, Tight Lines!
You are most welcome thanks for the nice comment!
What I miss most about NYS is the fall. You captured the whole "feel" with the colors, the stream and the solitude. Just superb!
Thanks so much the light in the morning was so nice and made for some really nice B ROLL
Is this stream open all year round or does it have a closing date like most small streams ?
Here in NY, the regulation has changed where all streams are open all year. You can only keep fish from April 1st to Oct 15th, the rest of the time it has to be artificial lure and catch&release only, unless the stream has other regulations. I hope this helps.
What a surprise!...and what a beautiful day...and super fish!! Quintessential southern tier day with a fly rod... I haven't fished that spot in decades...some things never change...so happy you had a great time
Thanks Teddy I appreciate it man it was a great day for sure!
Nice with the bambooski
Thank you sir!
What do you use to film your videos? Those are some great shots!
I have a Canon 90D
Huge believer in dropping a line in if you're driving over a culvert/low hanging bridge or past any body of water. It's always so fun because you never know what you'll get! I stumbled upon a few culverts on some backwoods roads on a stream near me with a healthy native brookie population this past Summer. Became my favorite place to fish! One other tip to add you can check to see where and when your State stocks trout (NYS DEC always publishes their list on the website). I'm in the ADK & check it over and always find a few "new" places thanks to it. Great video!
Great ideas!
i dont want much hunting content but I knew this one would be a good one. good work out there and recording it all!
Thanks so much. I haven't done many hunting videos these past couple years but really wanted to this year. I'm glad you enjoyed!
Yum venison burgers
Yup!!
Beautiful morning and great footage. Thanks for sharing another adventure of a picture perfect day outdoors.
Thanks for your comments! You are most welcome!
beautiful water full of wild brookies. heaven
I agree!
Beauty and about 60 lbs of good venison
Absolutley!
🎉 Great footage and editing!!! Heck of entrance wound 😮
Yeah it was HUGE!
No "catch and release" in hunting!
Nope except that first one I missed LOL
Great to see hunting videos again
Glad you enjoy, they get way less views than my fishing content but its nice to mix it up
Great video. Felt like I was there! Perfect morning.
Thanks so much, it was a great morning!
