- UŽICE, SERBIA 🇷🇸 - Part number 11 of my 2021 Serbia Travel series comes from the stunning Užice in western Serbia, once again. Užice (Ужице) is one of Serbia’s lesser-known cities in relation to tourism yet is absolutely unreal in terms of Serbian food, architecture and history, but most of all, its scenery and landscapes!
I filmed a video in Užice a number of weeks ago, when we checked out Stari Grad (OId Town), which features the monstrous late 13th century fortress. We also ate Komplet Lepinja (awesome Serbian food) at the famous Šuljage, but I always wanted to film a second video!
This time, we compare the Komplet Lepinja (again!) at Blue Moon, visit Kadinjača, which is a war memorial or spomenik complex (monument complex), and walk to Velika Brana (the Great Dam), a HUGE old dam related to Nikola Tesla and the hydroelectric power plant in Užice, based on the Đetinja River (or the Kanyon Đetinje).
If you’re planning to visit Serbia and are looking for activities or things to do in Serbia, Užice has to be on your list! I stayed there for a month as a travel base and I can’t wait to go back!

That was the second and final video from Užice! It was awesome to stay there for a month and use it as my base! You're welcome Marko! That's absolutely my plan next time, to go further into Tara. I had an issue finding car rental in Užice, so next time I might just rent one in Belgrade and go from there. Hoping to be back next year at some point!

It is a very picture postcard perfect view around the dam, great that you found a way down for a closer look. The memorial park looked very sombre, the weather lended itself well to the scene. Just wouldn't be a video of yours if it didn't include water, rain, hills and a mexi dog (it was so cute though). Thankyou for another beautiful video👍

Užice (uzheetse): full of sad history and the name is a mystery but it is known that Illyrian and Celtic tribes lived in this area! Of course they are today's Serbs lol. Translated to Serbian it means "in the wires". It can mean something what the Turks did to Serbs in the town only because the nearby river called Djetinja is called Child's river due to the Turks throwing children into the river and there's a legend that the Ottomans kept Serbian thugs in a camp made with dangerous wire.
On 5:30 you can see orange boats so you can use tham from spring to the and of rhe summer and you can drive kayak through the canyon
That's awesome! I remember seeing pictures in Bajina Bašta with kayaks on the Drina but I guess at this time of the year it's not the best time for it!

On the left side of the bridge there is a way to get all the way to the dam, used to go swimming and jumping down as kids all the time
Unfortunately I couldn't see any way of getting to the left side and no one I spoke seemed to know either! I can't fly the drone that close to running water anyway so I was happy with what I got

First thing I do when I come to Serbia is to buy kajmak Lol No such thing in Melbourne Aus. Can't wait for next year and summer time in Serbia and Europe. Serbian war monuments from komunist era are very futuristic even for today's standard. It's a worthwhile just visiting different monument around Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republic of Srpska to see them.

How? By levitating? It would be great if people provided actual information instead of random 'You should have done X' comments. There's no information about it online and no one I had spoken to (locals by the way) knew any way of getting anywhere near the dam.

I don't think you would want to live in Užice for a long time, especially in winter, because it is one of the Serbian cities with the biggest air pollution. Probably the cause is a specific relief that you noticed, a city surrounded by hills.
It's funny people are always talking about air pollution, but I've not noticed it anywhere in Serbia. I must be used to pollution lol
@@davidostrowski679 As usually, it is political agenda. Plan was to shot down coal power plants using air pollution as an excuse. Now it is over cause of energy crisis all over Europe but narrative about "air pollution" is still alive. Now it is used to make people feel miserable.
If U.S./John McCain didn't sabotage South Stream, Serbia likely would have had much more natural gas by now, and natural gas is the cleanest energy source.
@@davidostrowski679 you may have been lucky to be in Belgrade, Užice, in the days when there was no air pollution. Current climatic conditions affect the degree of pollution: time of year, air pressure, temperature, winds. For example: when the southeast wind "košava" blows in Belgrade, there is no pollution, they call it the cleaner of Belgrade. Užice has a big problem with air pollution in winter. Many households use wood and coal for heating, and when the weather conditions are "suitable", that smog remains in the valley. Statistics say that a large percentage of children in Užice suffer from asthma and similar respiratory problems caused by polluted air.

Kadinjaca is one of the many monuments to the false communist myth of the "fight against the Nazis." Before the war, the Communists were an illegal criminal group, and during the war they mostly terrorized the population and fought against the legitimate armed forces of pre-war Yugoslavia. The legitimate army of pre-war Yugoslavia (also known as Chetniks, although it is not the most accurate name) REALLY offered resistance to the Nazis (that is, Germans and their allies Croats, Albanians, Bulgarians, Hungarians ...), and resistance to the Communists. At the end of the war, with the help of the British (yes, the British!), The Communists took power in Yugoslavia, terrorized the Serbs and in the next 50 years of rule spread a false myth about their fight against the Nazis.
