Fun Fact: Current Simpsons co-producer Matt Selman's big break on The Simpsons was writing for Hit & Run. He's 100% on board for a remaster/remake of the game, but he's well aware of the rights issues plaguing it. EA currently has the rights to make The Simpsons games, while Activision might have the rights to the game through Vivendi & Radical Entertainment. Maybe Disney can sort something out? There are a lot of remakes, remasters, & ports of various old Star Wars & Disney games heading our way.
I think my favorite story about Simpsons Hit and Run was that they were planning on removing the kicking because it was too violent, however before they did they showed a demo copy to Matt Groening, who reportedly immediately started by kicking Marge down the street howling in laughter.
The PC version has a surprisingly good modding scene. Not only have fans modded new characters, missions, maps, costumes, & vehicles from the show, but from other games & franchises. Probably the most impressive mods out there are the "Fully Connected Map" mod & the online multiplayer mod. So it might be possible for you & a friend to drive around a open world Springfield as SpongeBob & Rick Sanchez in a kart from Mario Kart & the airboat from Half-Life 2.
@@LittleStrangeMan Since they would need to rebuild the game from scratch and redo the dialogue for a real remaster anyway, they could give that section to another character by changing the dialogue and a few missions in that section. For example, make it Ned. It would be a pretty easy fix.
I think one of the best things about Hit & Run is that the game is made more enjoyable by going for completion. A lot of games with collect-a-thon aspects tend to be a chore to get through, but a truly good game makes you want to 100% it.

It’s a tired argument nowadays that all licensed games suck. There are plenty of good to great licensed games out there. It’s just that there were a lot of bad ones that were basically shovelware that get so much attention nowadays because they were comically bad.
Aaahhhhhh!! One of my absolute favorite games for the PS2, and one I have a lot of fond memories of. I had to click on it right away! I never saw Jirard's first playthrough of this game, so I don't know what his frustrations looked like then, but if he was playing this game for the first time and expecting it to bear more similarities to the GTA games, then I could understand his initial disappointment. For me, and I can only presume for a lot of players at the time of this game's release, Simpsons: Hit and Run would have been their first GTA game that was, well, more appropriate to play than an actual GTA game. So the nostalgia is a strong factor, as with so many games. But I also think this game could have only worked because of the gags and references to the Simpsons show and its particular brand of humor that you wouldn't associate with the GTA games either. On another note, hearing the music tracks from the game really hit all my nostalgia buttons! BRB, gotta go and boot up my old PS2.
Thank you for making this video, this is the game that clicked with me as a kid and got me into video games. Wish I could still have this game to play, anyone know if it's on any recent platforms xbox or switch?
One thing to note about the completion bonus. When you achieve 100% across the entire game, not only will there be a gold completion sticker added to your save file on the stats screen, but it you will also unlock the ability to use a particular cheat code that will allow you to access any car throughout the entire game via the pay phones. This includes pedestrian cars, secret vehicles only found in certain levels, and even one or two cars that aren’t accessible at all while playing the main story. It really adds a lot of replay value for those looking to goof off after completing the game.
Crazy idea, but this makes me think we need an immersive sim of the Simpsons. Like make a game in the style of Deus Ex or just any of those really in depth games, and just make it the small town of springfield. People know this world so well they'd have a hell of a time just exploring around if you really unlocked the area for them.
A pretty unique case here. In most games, getting through the campaign is fine while getting all the side content can be a chore. Since it's the opposite here, you can't really give it a Finish it rating. Personally, I think there is still room for halfway ratings. There are games that have a good story worth finishing, and a good gameplay loop that encourages you to keep playing, but are so bloated with content that it becomes a chore to 100% Binding of Isaac, Borderlands 2, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and, my current grind, Age of Calamity, all fall under this.
nah, the halfway ratings don't need to exist, that's the whole point of the actual review with the Rating being the Conclusion of how Jirard himself feels

This is one of my favorite games of all time and as a big Simpsons fan since childhood it's still such a blast today, I did watch and had fun with your playthrough, but I did face palm with you failing a lot of missions that weren't really that hard (except for set to kill) and although i do disagree with you on some of the problems you had I still respect you giving the game a shot and found enjoyment out of it.
Hit & Run is definitely an acquired taste, as I notice the gameplay doesn't tend to win many first time players over, and it's understandable. There isn't much variety in the main missions especially compared to GTA, and the design is archaic, but despite that, I still love this game. I love just driving around the maps, listening to the music, the dialogue, casing mayhem with cheat codes, the bonus racetracks, all that. I just have so many great memories with this game. It'll always be special to me.
The story missions are actually super fun. I loved playing the story over and over. I guess playing the main missions on a rush might make them frustrating for some, but if my 10 year old me could beat the game multiple times, they can't be that hard.
This video came up on UA-cam autoplay and I thought 'is that hit and run music?' eventhough I've not played the game in over ten years, that's what a good game can do to you
The magic of this game comes to life when you take your time with it and explore in between missions. Theirs alot of little hidden spots to find and fun collectibles. It is a nightmare to try and speed through though because of the repetitive nature of the missions
I discovered this game as my mom found it in the bargain bin at Target back in 2005 for PS2. My brother and I were huge Simpson’s fans and this definitely itched the GTA itch as we were too young to play at the time. My absolute favorites were the last level, messing with Ralph Wiggam in his backyard, and the mini games in the main menu. Such a fun game.
Such a great game. I have fond memories playing it on my GameCube back in the day. A cool little Easter Egg, if you go to your console settings and manually change the date to certain holidays, Homer would wear a costume in the start up menu. Like set it to December 25th, the game would think its Christmas and Homer would be wearing a Santa outfit. So damn cool.
Thank you for reigniting my memory and love for this title. Took 4 days of keeping my gamecube on to beat it since I at the time didnt have a memory card. Time to run it back
Things I'd want in a remake of Hit and Run: 1) A completely connected map rather than everything split into separate levels, and more explorable locations in the map 2) More outfits, vehicles, characters (playable and nonplayable), and collectibles to incorporate tons of material after Hit and Run's release in 2003 3) New mission varieties, maybe even a "Rode Rage" mission; where it plays just like the Road Rage game, but they're now missions incorporated into Hit & Run
I've been a fan of the completionist for a long time and I can honestly say I have enjoyed most every episode and what's awesome to see is that I think the reviews are getting better with time. Jirard and his team do a really good job giving honest criticism of these games even if they have a long time fan base that could possibly disagree with what he says. Even if I don't have the same opinion on some of his reviews, he usually makes very valid points about the games he reviews. Always enjoy the show and looking forward to the next one!
I loved that you made a video on this game. The game is so good, simply perfection. And I’d never realised it before but, it’s probably the only game I’ve ever completed, to Completionist standards that is. As for the missions, practice makes perfect I suppose, it has been out a really long time. And from the game footage, you went buck wild on some of those missions.
Boy, this brings back a lot of good memories for me. Waking up early on weekend mornings to play/watch this game on the Xbox with my brother... Good times, good times.
A solid memory I have if this was me and my older cousin playing it together (XBOX version) and we changed Lisa’s outfit to the Massachusetts one(?) and then talked to Milhouse who said he liked her dress and she said “I’ve been wearing this dress for years” we didn’t even hear the mission after her responses because we were laughing so hard, we were nearly crying and were completely doubled over. It was hysterical and the last mission was where I was too stuck to continue, no matter what I tried I was stuck and could never manage to get to the UFO beam on time, much less with 5 seconds left!
Fun fact: as you progress through the game, cars on the street become bigger and thougher, meaning they are more likely to stop you as you bump into them. This makes the game much harder.
Going on a nostalgia trip of my fave youtubers reviewing the game, but I hope that for the remake, every level is connected but where the game loads for the next level, instead gives the character you're playing a return to X mission where they talk to the next playable character and then swaps over, example, after the last mission on level 1, Homer thinks to himself "I'm going to miss my favorite show! I need my show!" and when Homer gets home, Bart asks Homer a question or something and Homer says something like "go bother your weird big nose friend", then the game goes over to Bart and you make your way to meet Milhouse where the original level 2 would start. So the maps are connected, but you have an in-between mission that serves to hand the reins over to the next character of the story and carries on from there, now every character can go on each others level AND you can play as any of the other characters, maybe add in more mini games as well, because you can't be Apu and expect him to still be in the Kwik-E-Mart as an npc so maybe Apu can have Kwik-E-Mart mini-games etc.
I remember not being able to beat that final level until I was 14 or sometime along then, it was unreasonably hard. I still love the game, the characters and humor were great, gameplay felt good, and the music was amazing. Marge and Apu had some of my favorite missions and music
another thing about the whole exploration aspect vs the main missions - the time limits are really not that bad if you learn the map so you know where all the shortcuts are. so exploring the map along the way can be very rewarding for completing the story because itll show you a lot of the hidden routes you wouldnt have noticed otherwise. i beat the final mission on my first try with plenty of breathing room, really the only one that's super tight imo is set to kill from level 6

On another note, hearing the music tracks from the game really hit all my nostalgia buttons! BRB, gotta go and boot up my old PS2.
Yeah, no-one's going to argue about the time limits, an extra 30 second would definitely make them all a little easier.
Back in 2003 this was a masterpiece, a GTA done right.
paled in comparison to Vice City immensely
More like GTA clone done right. GTA was GTA done right
Thanks for helping Nathaniel buddy
One of the best game cube games I've ever played is lyrically in my top 5
Facts
Yep I have it on ps2
Lyrically? The fuck are you talking about lmao?
@@Rountree1985 I think he meant literally
Lyrically lol you wrote it down as a top 5 for good. It's in the lyrics now. You got bars
The playthrough of this on Super Beard Bros is my wife and my favorite!
We're gonna rewatch it (again) after this
Thank you for making this video, this is the game that clicked with me as a kid and got me into video games. Wish I could still have this game to play, anyone know if it's on any recent platforms xbox or switch?
It’s not, might be able to play the original Xbox Disc on Series X
Thank you ill be in the lookout to find this game, a man on a mission now
I was waiting for this!
Keep up the good work 👏

Shut up, bot
Respect for the honesty. This game has such a cult following, so saying it wasn't a very good game was BOLD. Lol
I'm waiting eagerly for him to do Legends. It'll be hilarious.
6:08 omg you just triggered childhood memories i had completely forgot about
Review the Tak trilogy! Tak and the Power of Juju Tak 2 the Staff of Dreams and Tak the Great Juju Challenge amazing 3D platformers on GameCube! Masterpiece of a trilogy! Please review them!
Yeah! Tak deserves a remaster more than Hit&Run IMO
@@eduazy the Tak trilogy needs to come back it was on THQNordics list of remakes! Tak fans have to rise up to make it happen! Tak and the Power of Juju Tak 2 the Staff of Dreams and Tak the Great Juju Challenge is a masterpiece of a trilogy!
THANKS FOR THE SHAVING PRODUCTS I REALLY WANNA WATCH THE VIDEO NOW
Right I was listening while driving and was like get to the fucking game
“Play it” gets a bad reputation. You should still play a good fun game.
I spent so much time playing with the human chess pieces in Mr burns manor or building whatever it was
19:52 "Drive around Springfield and interact with the world" as he runs over a pedestrian
I remember shortly after this game came out, my friend brought it over to show me. I was extremely skeptical, but ended up loving the hell out of it
Interesting. I don't remember thinking the game was hard when I was a kid, but I do remember finding it annoying to look for cards 😅
I just started Hit & Run again after years, and a couple days ago started watching The Completionist again after months! This is perfect!

Normal Boots.
Your intros keep getting more epic.
Best Homer impression of all time in the intro, already a 10/10 vid. Jirard is a real card. Jirard The Card! Hardest working man on UA-cam sounds way better, I reckon. Because it's gotta be true, how the hell do you even do this, it's totally insane but much appreciated!
Still the best Simpsons game
I discovered this game as my mom found it in the bargain bin at Target back in 2005 for PS2. My brother and I were huge Simpson’s fans and this definitely itched the GTA itch as we were too young to play at the time. My absolute favorites were the last level, messing with Ralph Wiggam in his backyard, and the mini games in the main menu. Such a fun game.
They really gotta bring this back! At least remaster for current gen especially Switch
Time to run it back
Things I'd want in a remake of Hit and Run:
1) A completely connected map rather than everything split into separate levels, and more explorable locations in the map
2) More outfits, vehicles, characters (playable and nonplayable), and collectibles to incorporate tons of material after Hit and Run's release in 2003
3) New mission varieties, maybe even a "Rode Rage" mission; where it plays just like the Road Rage game, but they're now missions incorporated into Hit & Run
One of my top 5 of all time tbh. Yes, I think it's that good.
I fell like the compliments intro get cooler and cooler every year
Omg I’ve been waiting for this one! Thank you!!!!!
Best reviewer on UA-cam at it again. Thanks Jirard
Boy, this brings back a lot of good memories for me. Waking up early on weekend mornings to play/watch this game on the Xbox with my brother... Good times, good times.
I never knew Hit and Run was a sequel to Road Rage. This is why I love watching The Completionist always learn something new
The drooling bit made me laugh, then the "you'll cut this before then" made me laugh more.
Not a Simpson's fan, but I like seeing the beard man get hyped about games.
This is one of my favourite games of all time, I loved it as a kid and I still love it too this day.
One of my favorite things is Ralph being charge of time trials. “1…1…1….Go!”
Still replaying this on my Samsung Fold 3 today. Love it
I still love the intro.
I remember not being able to beat that final level until I was 14 or sometime along then, it was unreasonably hard. I still love the game, the characters and humor were great, gameplay felt good, and the music was amazing. Marge and Apu had some of my favorite missions and music
Fully agree , my favourite part of each level was exploring and finding all the fun secrets
another thing about the whole exploration aspect vs the main missions - the time limits are really not that bad if you learn the map so you know where all the shortcuts are. so exploring the map along the way can be very rewarding for completing the story because itll show you a lot of the hidden routes you wouldnt have noticed otherwise. i beat the final mission on my first try with plenty of breathing room, really the only one that's super tight imo is set to kill from level 6
remember that one time jerma practically had a mental breakdown while streaming this game for 11 hours straight
