The Simpsons: Hit & Run is an action-adventure video game based on the American animated sitcom, The Simpsons. Hit & Run has seven levels, each with missions and sub-plot. The player can control one specific character in each level. The game’s playable characters are Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge, and Apu. Homer and Bart are played twice. When travelling on foot, the player character can walk, run, and perform three types of melee attacks: a normal kick, a jumping kick, and a smashing move. To drive, the player can either commandeer one of the many civilian vehicles that drive endlessly around town, or use a phone booth to select a car. The game’s driving missions are also similar to those of Grand Theft Auto III. In both games, the player races against other characters, collects items before a timer runs out, and wrecks other cars.

Fun Fact: Current Simpsons co-producer Matt Selman's big break on The Simpsons was writing for Hit & Run. He's 100% on board for a remaster/remake of the game, but he's well aware of the rights issues plaguing it. EA currently has the rights to make The Simpsons games, while Activision might have the rights to the game through Vivendi & Radical Entertainment. Maybe Disney can sort something out? There are a lot of remakes, remasters, & ports of various old Star Wars & Disney games heading our way.
Matt & Matt - the unstoppable duo
Don't worry, it's just a matter of time before either Microsoft or Disney buys them both
Hopefully not make changes to the voices and sight gags.
@@heardofrvb They probably won't change the gags, but they might replace Apu & Dr. Hibbert's voice lines.
Speaking of Disney Remakes, where’s that remake by PlayMagic that was rumored?
The PC version has a surprisingly good modding scene. Not only have fans modded new characters, missions, maps, costumes, & vehicles from the show, but from other games & franchises. Probably the most impressive mods out there are the "Fully Connected Map" mod & the online multiplayer mod. So it might be possible for you & a friend to drive around a open world Springfield as SpongeBob & Rick Sanchez in a kart from Mario Kart & the airboat from Half-Life 2.
There’s a pc version?
Haa!
Ridiculous.
Sounds great.😄👍
bruh i pirated the PC Version and downloaded the online multiplayer mod it's fire af
@@Slick1512 the online multiplayer mod is a must play
i'm gonna have to track down the PC version.
I think my favorite story about Simpsons Hit and Run was that they were planning on removing the kicking because it was too violent, however before they did they showed a demo copy to Matt Groening, who reportedly immediately started by kicking Marge down the street howling in laughter.
This game definitely needs a sequel or remaster. If Battle for Bikini Bottom can do it, we can to!
Seriously
With Apu missing from the show, can that happen now?
@@DnoSauce apu was a side character, he can be replaced.
@@Super_Broly he’s a playable character for a whole level in this game, not a side character.
@@LittleStrangeMan Since they would need to rebuild the game from scratch and redo the dialogue for a real remaster anyway, they could give that section to another character by changing the dialogue and a few missions in that section. For example, make it Ned. It would be a pretty easy fix.
I think one of the best things about Hit & Run is that the game is made more enjoyable by going for completion. A lot of games with collect-a-thon aspects tend to be a chore to get through, but a truly good game makes you want to 100% it.
Honestly the collect-a-thon stuff for me in hit n run was the main reason I played it don't mind the missions but they aren't what I remember fondly about the game
I hated looking for the wasps. I could never find them all.
@@chesspunk489 My main problem was the gags. In every level there were always 1 or 2 gags that I would spend hours searching the whole map for them (especially because there are some gags that for some reason didn't count as gags).
@@danielbueno8474 Since there wasn't that many gags it wasn't hard to look them up online. Wasps were a different story since there were so many.
I agree, Spongebob battle for bikini bottom is the only game I've platinum trophied lol
Dude must have spent 600,000 on that intro
Jirard looks so much healthier than he ever has, so glad he has been focusing on his health and still putting out amazing content! keep up the amazing work Jirard!
Yeah he's a bit less morbidly obese!
@@snicksandstones he was never obese, he definitely has lost some weight though. I was talking more about the disease and surgeries he’s been going through the last year or so which has been effecting his health and energy levels. I was just saying how much life he seems to have again
@@crispymelon2114 to be completely fair, he was for sure obese, and that's not a knock on the man, he's fucking awesome brotha!!!
@@crispymelon2114 Wait, what was he suffering from?
Yeees! His face is less pale ans his beard is darker!
I’m the biggest fan of the Simpsons and have seen every episode, even the Tracy Ulman Bits, thank you for making this Man I never was allowed to play it as a kid!
Damn, you missed out, it's a classic
Allowed to watch the show but not play the game?
@@eduazy yeah that makes no damn sense
watching the newer episodes must be a pain in the ass
@@Pwilliams4000 the newer ones aren't that horrible, they are a definite improvement over the middle slump of the series (seasons 19- 23) I still think they tried turning it around after the negative response to "Lisa goes Gaga" episode. The show will never be as good as the Golden era, but at least they're some what trying, but that's just my opinion tho.
One of the all time greats, and a favourite of mine. For those looking to play this now, look into the PC version, esp with the Donut Team mods/mod launcher for it. It has a lot of quality of life improvements and new missions and all sorts of cool stuff (including things like freezing timers for those missions that are a pain in the butt etc). Highly recommended.
Played it long time ago, thanks for this, i didnt know this existed
Man this is my favorite game of all time and one of the first games I ever 100% complete glad that there's a completionist video about it now
I remember hearing in an interview with one of the developers that the idea for this game was the idea of taking Road Rage and asking the question, "What if you could get out of your vehicle?". When they realized how fun it was just to walk around, they designed a game around that concept. It wasn't exactly designed to be a GTA clone.
Completed this earlier this year on the ol’ ps2.. absolute gem that ain’t gonna hold your hand in some races, loved every second and hope even a non Simpsons fan would share these feelings
This was a fun ride on Super Beard Bros. The last level was just amazing.
This was the very first game I personally 100% completed. Brings back so much nostalgia for me booting up the old PS2 at my late grandmas house and finding all the collectibles and after I 100% the game I would go around with cheats and try to glitch the game as much as possible. Good yet stressful times (Those damn strict time limits haha). So happy that you are covering this game! Also fun fact that wasn't mentioned in the video but when you get 100% you get access to another cheat code! Idk what the code is on PC, Xbox or Gamecube but I remember on PS2 it was X O X O. It let's you use any car in the game including NPC cars, level exclusive cars (like the rocket car or the monster truck) and even unused cars that were just left in the game files!
Code is ABAB on GameCube and Xbox
I ducking loved this especially cause you got cars like the black sedans which sure are just a ferreni colour swap but there Cool
the intros to these get more and more impressive every damn time
Idk I skip
@@V3RM1LI0N I skip your comment. Never read it even once.
@@Zhylo ok so whta that got to do with me
And longer haha

unpopular opinion: Bart's Nightmare is awesome. It's dated, obtuse and overly-difficult but that doesn't stop LITTERALLY HUNDREDS of other games from being beloved and I think it has way more redeeming values and fun gameplay than a large portion of them. It's not perfect but it's way above average.
I still remember this game as being my very first game that I've ever 100% completed. I will never forget that.
You completed it?!? You are an absolute mad lad Jirard. Big shout out to you for completing this frustrating classic!
His channel is called the Completionist, kind of gives it away doesn't it?
Just recently beat this again on the GameCube. This is a top tier game. One of the best licensed games of all time
I just played it for the the first time all the way through and it mostly holds up well. Wish for a switch remaster port
I remember playing this as a kid, it was amazing. BULLY and Hit & Run were my 2 favorite childhood games
the intros to these get more and more impressive every damn time, and it never ceases to amaze me how much work is put into them
Why copy & paste a comment, if you’re also going to put in the effort of adding parts to it too?
@@Evanz111 The other comment I saw with the first part was posted 1 hour ago, whereas this one was posted 2 hours ago. So seems like this guy said it first
I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS !!!!! THE BEST SIMPSONS GAME OF ALL TIME!!!!! (In my opinion)
@@99Fishing_ It's a good game, don't be cringy having an "impopular opinion"
Road Rage and The Simpsons game are very good, but they do not even come close to Hit & Run
@@99Fishing_ it’s your opinion man
I Respect it
but keep it to yourself
@@99Fishing_ Still a good game, this review sucked hard
@@99Fishing_ Do you have some sort of psychological disorder?
Interesting. I don't remember thinking the game was hard when I was a kid, but I do remember finding it annoying to look for cards 😅
“Play it” gets a bad reputation. You should still play a good fun game.
Here's a weird thing. My parents didn't want me watching the Simpons show when I was a kid but for some reason, they were cool with me playing both this and Road Rage. I remember me and my brother constanstly playing it and making fun of the pedistrian lines.
The Simpsons Game from 2007 is massively underrated. Fight me.
problem with that game was most of peoples experience was the PS2 version and in reality the game doesn't pick up for a while and the marge levels were boring
the xbox 360 version had a hub world
I am so, so happy you decided to take a look at my favorite third-party game of all time. I have watched your Beard Bros. playthrough of the game (twice) and now seeing you properly complete it brings me joy. This game was my childhood
Still the best Simpsons game
Man has a 7 minute long intro which takes up a THIRD of the entire video, and yet I don’t care because he does such a good job at setting up the story and giving context behind the projects he works on
3-4 years later, he finally does this game on this show, exciting!
I just started Hit & Run again after years, and a couple days ago started watching The Completionist again after months! This is perfect!
Just some constructive criticism. I would love the completion series if you focused more on actually completing the games. 7 mins in and we still haven’t gotten to the game. I notice you focus more on telling the history of the brand and past games and your memories with them rather than completing said game. The series feels more like a history lesson and review rather than a completion series
I actually consider the "Play it" rating to be the highest rating you give a game. It means you actually enjoy just sitting down and goofing off in the game...you know...for fun.
But wouldn't Finish/Complete it usually mean that you can enjoy just sitting down and goofing off in the game AND you can get enjoyment out of finishing or completing the game too, which would make those better ratings
@@MysticClaws100 I always felt the Complete/Finish ratings meant you play through it to the completion/credits and then put it away because you got all the enjoyment you could out of it.
This video gave me war flashbacks of that final time trial. All the times the barrel exploded on me... And all the times I came up a few seconds short... Good times
I was waiting for this!
Two years and two full watches through your channel later and i gotta say. Thank you for doing what you do man. This channel reinvigorated a love for gaming in me i never thought I'd ever get back. Can't wait for game #428🤙🏼
Finally! A review of Simpson Hit & Run!
I know this is random to say, but this was the very first video game that I ever managed to complete at 100%!
God this game needs an HD/Remake
Apparently there’s a crappy rights issue holding the HD/Remake back.
@@Dragoon1809 yep pretty sure EA still owns the rights to the simpsons games licence
And EA is still promoting garbage games like tapped out so after the simpsons game which came out when the simpsons movie was released we haven't got any new original content unless you count that one lego dimensions level
Super lame.
I loved that you made a video on this game. The game is so good, simply perfection. And I’d never realised it before but, it’s probably the only game I’ve ever completed, to Completionist standards that is.
As for the missions, practice makes perfect I suppose, it has been out a really long time. And from the game footage, you went buck wild on some of those missions.
this opening is better than the other one imo. the annoying noises are gone and such which makes it far less obnoxious. also, thats a damn good ending man! cheers! that was very well presented overall. really really liked this video even if i dont have any attachment to this game.
Aaahhhhhh!! One of my absolute favorite games for the PS2, and one I have a lot of fond memories of. I had to click on it right away!
I never saw Jirard's first playthrough of this game, so I don't know what his frustrations looked like then, but if he was playing this game for the first time and expecting it to bear more similarities to the GTA games, then I could understand his initial disappointment. For me, and I can only presume for a lot of players at the time of this game's release, Simpsons: Hit and Run would have been their first GTA game that was, well, more appropriate to play than an actual GTA game. So the nostalgia is a strong factor, as with so many games. But I also think this game could have only worked because of the gags and references to the Simpsons show and its particular brand of humor that you wouldn't associate with the GTA games either.
On another note, hearing the music tracks from the game really hit all my nostalgia buttons! BRB, gotta go and boot up my old PS2.
Easily one of the best Gamecube games ever made. I used to spend so much time on it back in the day.
This is one of my favorite games of all time and as a big Simpsons fan since childhood it's still such a blast today, I did watch and had fun with your playthrough, but I did face palm with you failing a lot of missions that weren't really that hard (except for set to kill) and although i do disagree with you on some of the problems you had I still respect you giving the game a shot and found enjoyment out of it.
Omg I’ve been waiting for this one! Thank you!!!!!
Review the Tak trilogy! Tak and the Power of Juju Tak 2 the Staff of Dreams and Tak the Great Juju Challenge amazing 3D platformers on GameCube! Masterpiece of a trilogy! Please review them!
Yeah! Tak deserves a remaster more than Hit&Run IMO
@@eduazy the Tak trilogy needs to come back it was on THQNordics list of remakes! Tak fans have to rise up to make it happen! Tak and the Power of Juju Tak 2 the Staff of Dreams and Tak the Great Juju Challenge is a masterpiece of a trilogy!
NOOOO! Not a licensed game! You have so much to live for Jirard! Wait… it’s Simpson’s Hit and Run. Never mind, this will be good.
It’s a tired argument nowadays that all licensed games suck. There are plenty of good to great licensed games out there. It’s just that there were a lot of bad ones that were basically shovelware that get so much attention nowadays because they were comically bad.
Best Homer impression of all time in the intro, already a 10/10 vid. Jirard is a real card. Jirard The Card! Hardest working man on UA-cam sounds way better, I reckon. Because it's gotta be true, how the hell do you even do this, it's totally insane but much appreciated!
I never knew Hit and Run was a sequel to Road Rage. This is why I love watching The Completionist always learn something new
Well I guess we can add "gets to be a main character in the best game" to the long list of reasons Apu is a fantastic character that nobody should have any shame in being compared to.
Back in 2003 this was a masterpiece, a GTA done right.
paled in comparison to Vice City immensely
More like GTA clone done right. GTA was GTA done right
Man this game brings back so many memories. The monkey collecting mission took me forever, I still remember the little song that would play.
I love how over the top your intros are, they have so much personality!
Thank you for making this video, this is the game that clicked with me as a kid and got me into video games. Wish I could still have this game to play, anyone know if it's on any recent platforms xbox or switch?
It’s not, might be able to play the original Xbox Disc on Series X
Thank you ill be in the lookout to find this game, a man on a mission now
Keep up the good work 👏
Bot
Shut up, bot
Still replaying this on my Samsung Fold 3 today. Love it
Thank you for reigniting my memory and love for this title. Took 4 days of keeping my gamecube on to beat it since I at the time didnt have a memory card. Time to run it back
Crazy idea, but this makes me think we need an immersive sim of the Simpsons. Like make a game in the style of Deus Ex or just any of those really in depth games, and just make it the small town of springfield. People know this world so well they'd have a hell of a time just exploring around if you really unlocked the area for them.
A pretty unique case here. In most games, getting through the campaign is fine while getting all the side content can be a chore. Since it's the opposite here, you can't really give it a Finish it rating.
Personally, I think there is still room for halfway ratings. There are games that have a good story worth finishing, and a good gameplay loop that encourages you to keep playing, but are so bloated with content that it becomes a chore to 100% Binding of Isaac, Borderlands 2, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and, my current grind, Age of Calamity, all fall under this.
nah, the halfway ratings don't need to exist, that's the whole point of the actual review with the Rating being the Conclusion of how Jirard himself feels
I'm waiting eagerly for him to do Legends. It'll be hilarious.
Fun Fact. UA-camr Reubs is teaming up with other small designers to remaster The Simpsons Hit and Run with "current" graphics and better controls. I highly recommend giving them a watch. Very entertaining and nostalgic for us 90's babies
6:08 omg you just triggered childhood memories i had completely forgot about

Such a great game. I have fond memories playing it on my GameCube back in the day. A cool little Easter Egg, if you go to your console settings and manually change the date to certain holidays, Homer would wear a costume in the start up menu. Like set it to December 25th, the game would think its Christmas and Homer would be wearing a Santa outfit. So damn cool.
So many memories in this game. Absolutely amazing
I remember watching you guys play this years ago....Man a long time has passed.
I fell like the compliments intro get cooler and cooler every year
The drooling bit made me laugh, then the "you'll cut this before then" made me laugh more.
Yeah, no-one's going to argue about the time limits, an extra 30 second would definitely make them all a little easier.
Been waiting for this😁
As a child hit and run was the first game I've ever completed 100% because I played it for hours. I loved this game and I loved the fact at how easy you could break the game with chest codes etc... This video is nothing but nostalgia
Boy, this brings back a lot of good memories for me. Waking up early on weekend mornings to play/watch this game on the Xbox with my brother... Good times, good times.
Woo-hoo! I've been hoping to see you do this one for a while, it's such a fun game! Your criticisms are all really accurate but I've always found it fun. Maybe it's the nostalgia but I still revisit this game every couple years.
out of all the games that deserve a remake, this should be top of the list
I remember not being able to beat that final level until I was 14 or sometime along then, it was unreasonably hard. I still love the game, the characters and humor were great, gameplay felt good, and the music was amazing. Marge and Apu had some of my favorite missions and music
The playthrough of this on Super Beard Bros is my wife and my favorite!
We're gonna rewatch it (again) after this
My FAVOURITE childhood game
Dude your intros are always great! this one slaps soo hard lmao love it! Thanks for always putting in so much effort to make high quality content!
I remember this game so fondly man. So many good memories. I replayed it soooooo many times. Only think I didnt like is some of the timed missions are tough. But the vibe and characters are spot on. I'd love to see a full remake of this in 4k and 60fps with better lighting and textures and sound design.
Jirard. You are killing it my guy!
Always nice to re-play a game and have a more enjoyable time with it. Glad you were able to have that experience with this game, Jirard!
This is one of my favourite games of all time, I loved it as a kid and I still love it too this day.

Normal Boots.
Your intros keep getting more epic.
This video came up on UA-cam autoplay and I thought 'is that hit and run music?' eventhough I've not played the game in over ten years, that's what a good game can do to you
THANKS FOR THE SHAVING PRODUCTS I REALLY WANNA WATCH THE VIDEO NOW
Right I was listening while driving and was like get to the fucking game
Such an amazing game! My neighbor was dating a girl who had three kids that me and my brother hung out with. We were playing the last level and none of us could get past it. It was the oldest sister Shelby that beat it for us. She was unfortunately killed one day and I can't help but remember the times we hung out and I will always be thankful that she beat that ungodly difficult last level. Rest in peace Shelby and thank you.
I discovered this game as my mom found it in the bargain bin at Target back in 2005 for PS2. My brother and I were huge Simpson’s fans and this definitely itched the GTA itch as we were too young to play at the time. My absolute favorites were the last level, messing with Ralph Wiggam in his backyard, and the mini games in the main menu. Such a fun game.
Jirard always manages to look professional no matter the times. Always loved watching you bro!
This is probably the first game to make me take a sick day 🙃
I knew jirard was gunna say “why do you love this game!?” The rage he had at the end was crazy
Keep up the great work completionist
Your videos always feel like essays about a game instead of progression to 100%
I remember getting ready for school and instead of adverts, at that specific time between cartoons, for a month at least, they'd show the entire Bartman music video. This was on a channel in the UK, but I can't remember which satellite company. Either Sky or BSB (who Sky later bought out anyway).
Dude, I have no idea how you do G4, do this, and whatever other projects you have going on. Your work ethic and drive is honestly inspiring!
WOWOWO so hyped for this!! I loved this game as a child
