20:00 According to the source code leak a while back, originally your characters sprint was not infinite and required filling a food meter to use. The lines the characters say to Apu and the Squeaky voice teen about ordering food are probably leftovers from that idea as well
@@ExaltedUriel Definitely lol. Honestly kinda suprised the considered it given how there's only like 2 missions that are mainly on foot. Then again maybe it was used more often for missions earlier in development. The source code kinda confirms this with a climbing section intended for Petty Theft Homer and mentions of a hedge maze in Level 1
I found when I grew up progressing through this game, it got more unsettling as the story continued. Level 7 is the icing on the cake, the story is paced as if you're in a dream and you are aware a nightmare is forming before your eyes.
Level 1 is the most relaxing level of any game in history. A bright sunny morning, the iconic relaxing music, most of the missions are a slow steady pace. Like you mentioned the way the story goes from that to level 7 is a trip to say the least
@@jakemcdonough7712I used to roleplay as a kid on Level 1, 3 and 4 sometimes, just pretending it was a normal day and I had chores or things to do, taking it slow. It was nice to have a free roam game where everything was just nice and normal and friendly for a change sometimes.
One additional fact. In Level 7 during the Alien Autopsy mission where you drive your own vehicle. Pick up the waste and park your car. Homer will start punching the air to the beat of the music, same is true if you cancel the mission while still parked. This is an intentional easter egg due to references to something called HomerRocksOut being in the coding of that mission.
@@therunawaykid6523 Yeah. I think the guy that made the connected map mod has a video up on his channel about it. You can also try for yourself on your own copy of the game. I've tried it on PC and PS2 and it works on those 2 versions at least
38:35 it's an obscure word but "ungulent" means "animal with hooves" - cows, pigs, sheep, horses etc. So "genuine ungulent milk" seems to be one of those "well now you're being so specific, I'm beginning to question it" type gags; as in, if it really was cows' milk would they even draw attention to it?
11:01 blue shirt bart is a graphic design choice. his shirt is adjacent to a red car surrounded by fire, + Lisa's red dress. you wouldn't want to make barts shirt orange if you don't have to.
This part confused me. I can clearly see it being red (Probably orange, but because of the distance and perspective it looks red). Absolutely not blue, aside from the car's glass obviously.
I think the absolute weirdest thing about this game (that only happened to me as far i am aware of) is that there are some versions where all cutscenes (except the intro) are replaced with the radical logo movie. This means that the cutscenes you get when finishing a level are just this 3 second logo. I grew playing this version on the ps2 and I thought this was normal. Just imagine my shock when I played the pc version and saw the intended cutscenes lol. I don't know if i had a weird pre release version or a defect one as I never saw anyone adress this before.
It was most likely a pirated version of the game. Cutscenes was cut to save space on the disk.Lots of pirated games for ps2 was like that in that time.
your friend gaslighting you about the purple dinosaur car reminded me of something i was always convinced as as a kid, and i never once saw anyone talk about it to this day, but when i was a kid playing this game, i would watch the intro movie often enough to take note that the game shows a clip of homer driving the monster in level 1, and that clip always perplexed me because the monster obviously isn't in level 1. so i became obsessed over tracking it down, and making up my own criterias i convinced myself of try and find it. my first running theory was it was some kind of hundo reward, so when i beat the game 100% for the first time, the first thing i did was go to level 1, and i searched literally every nook and cranny of the map, doing MULTIPLE laps of it to try and track down the monster, and was inevitably disappointed. nowadays, i know that you can get the monster from the phone booth after getting hundo and inputting that one cheat code to get any car from the booth, but even now im just thinking, why in the fuck would they put that clip in the intro movie? i mean, maybe the monster was initially the special car in level 1 instead of the rocket? still fucked up they left that clip in the final movie because it turned little kid me into a conspiracy theorist, racking my brain why in the fuck i couldn't find the dumbass car ever.
gaslighting yourself into believing bullshit is a childhood staple, like I was so adamant about Krystal from Star Fox Adventures being a playable character in brawl to the sad degree of spending all night in Subspace trying to unlock everyone just to prove it.
@@AnAverageGoblinThis is so true 😂 my best friend told me there was a secret colossus in Shadow of the Colossus and I spent hours and hours as a kid trying to find it but obviously it wasn’t real.
Dude that’s not as dumb as what I use to do, in the lvl 1 mission there’s some stuff used in the background (out of bounds) me as a kid thought that there was more to the map than what we could get to, the amount of hours I spent trying to get to the out of bounds areas lmao.
Nice video mate, i'll just point out that at some spots the audio balancing isn't as good as it could be, 35:09 for example the music is almost overpowering the narration, you want it to be 30% tops so it doesn't interfere with the voice audio.
5:51 I FOUND THIS YEARS AGO AND NO ONE EVER BELIEVED ME! I thought it was a fever dream so thank you for showing me I’m not crazy cos this thing scared the shit out of me when I found it
Fun Fact: Kwik Cash was originally supposed to have a 3:30 time limit to destroy the armored truck, so had that time limit not been scrapped, it likely would’ve topped Set To Kill as the hardest mission in the game
@fp45 The time limit probably wouldn't have been so bad had the Bandit been given invincibility like the Canyonero in Bonestorm Storm, but since it didn't have that, it was a good thing they ditched the time limit
@@benthecat4345 would have been super hard but once you know you dont have to tun into the armored truck but to deviate his trajectory into a wall, 3.30minuts is more than enough
6:00 That texture isn’t a clock it’s the texture for the car’s wheel pulled over onto it. Just a texture glitch. Also, there really IS something for 100% completion. Once in the phone booths, press both triggers (I had the GameCube version so L+R) and you can access EVERY car in the game. The milk truck, the minivan with 8 kids in it from when the mom was trying to buy all the diapers, the bonestorm 2 truck, all NPC cars from every level, the black non-convertible version of Bart’s car- Everything! And no this isn’t a joke like the dinosaur car thing. Also also, NO WAY I’m buying one of those hats rn lol
I was still a Simpsons fan back when I first played this, and I remember feeling delighted by Level 7 because I thought it was mimicking a Treehouse of Horror episode. It probably isn't, but it's theme made the level more special.
@@alsocool1 Definitely mimics Treehouse of Horror, which is kind of unfortunate because little me genuinely thought it was just a themed level, I had an idea that all the levels were somehow connected but didn't quite get the larger narrative and I think that association of the big finale being a non-canonical episode sort of broke the momentum a bit for me. Watching this video after not touching the game for god knows how long, it does make sense why that is the final level though.
I feel like you could fairly easily do a part 2 to this video including even more obscure things like the nuke car glitch that most people (even people who know the game really well) don’t even know about!
Surprised the Red Brick car didnt get mentioned, it was a cheat code I think that replaced all secret cars with a car made of lego. I feel like I remember seeing it in a magazine too which made me think there was a maggie level because of the toy theme hahaha
Great video. If you ever do a part 2 here's some stuff you could include: Unused Evergreen Terrace homes - Source code leak had mailbox props for the homes of the Skinner's, Lovejoys and Milhouses(for some reason there mailbox said Milhouse rather than his actual last name) Unused NPCs - Krabapple has several unused gags in the SC leak as well as a screenshot in the sc leak. Sc leak also mentioned plans to add Sideshow bob if they had enough time and Poochie has an unused model. Unused gags - such as the previously mentioned Krabapple one, a bull ride in Moes bar(sc leak) and an inflatable doll intended for the Androids dungeon (data in final game, model found in SC leak) The Area code signs in Levels 1, 4 & 7 showing an early version of the map in the image. Nintendo E-reader card support - SC leak has mentions of an idea for purchasable IRL Buzz Cola cards that could be scanned to unlock stuff such as hints and other stuff in the final game. Earliest script idea - probably never intended for the final but SC leak details a storyboard for a mission where homer would drive Louie and Tony to the school. Level 7 Rock out easter egg The Audi TT and other unused cars. 4 maps/ Level 8 - SC again details originally there would be 4 maps repeated twice. Ideas for locations in each map were written out and what would be in each zone. However most of the 4th maps ideas got recycled for the other maps. 8 missions per level - originally some bonus missions were part of the main story line Boss fights - 3 boss fights were planned but all seem to repeat the same idea being Truckasaurus in L2, Fossil Dinosaur in L5 and Duff/ buzz cola Dinosaur in L7 (Last one was gonna be Ralph controlling it through a motion capture suit somehow???) Barneys L6 appearance- SC leak mentions Moleman being considered for the role. Ps2 texture bug when calling cars repeatedly. Happened to me as a kid alot. Unused dash mechanic where food would be required to fill a sprint meter. Placeholder texture. You made reference to Kearneys shirt being orange. I believe this is simply a Placeholder. The scratchy Balloon in the L5 bonus mission and early footage has the same orange texture in it's gloves Cover art error - on the box for the game the water coming out from the hydrant is actually misplaced to the left a little making it look like the water is coming out of nowhere. The original level 1 - my absolute biggest mystery with this game. The SC leak makes mention of L1 being completely overhauled during development. Amazingly we have a screenshot in the leak that shows home in an estate near the Kwik E mart that looks nothing like the final game. The leak also mentions originally platforming would need to be used to get ontop of a bus stop to get Flanders cooler. Also originally Chief Wiggum would chase the player in the same mission. Removed because playtesters had difficulty escaping him
Oh also Jasper may have had Abes role in L4. He has an unused talk too objective and an unused cutscene model. The icons used for missions are also colour coded depending on the objective Development beginnings - 70s sports car concept art predated the release of Road Rage by 10 days L2 diffrent skyboxes - originally L2 was gonna take place in early morning going by the scrap book, then during a cloudy day based on early footage and the bonus game, before appearing in it's final form
@@fp45 Awesome ^_^ if you need anymore facts about the sc leak or just SHAR in general in the past I was keeping a list of every interesting thing I could find. Of the top of my head the house across from the simpsons originally had a gag where you could hear Gerald Fords voice coming from inside his house (probably similar to Rod & Todd in Neds bomb shelter. Crash team racing also re-uses some elements from shar. Most notably the exact same coin sound effects. Speaking of racing. There's a video on UA-cam of an apparently cancelled simpsons racing game possibly developed by Radical that used Hit and Run music in the background. Edit: looked into it more, it was a prototype found on a XBox dev kit made for Vivendi Universal Games.
@@fp45 Found my old list. Here's everything I made a note off. Originally the Wasps had a diffrent textures being more prominently black rather than yellow. Donut truck is listed in L1 traffic for some reason 3 unused gags of kissing between Krabapple & Skinner. One inside School, one outside and the final being outside CBGs store in L3 Gag of Grampa riding a mechanical bull in Moes Gag of Homer eating cheese was originally gonna be in Moes as well Originally Springfield Gorge was visible from the observatory in L3 and there would be a gag of Homer failing to make the jump on a Skateboard. Gag of Bart writing on the elementary schools chalkboard. Gag of Jimbo and Kearney stealing the Mechanical bull and Love tester from Moes Gag of Carl and lenny punching each other in the corner of Moes. Smiling and yelling i-so-topes Another L3 gag from the observatory of Otto spewing cream corn from a truck into the Springfield Gorge. Spinemelter card was originally located at the barn near the powerplant. Rather than the pathway near the Stonecutters building. Marge and Apus levels once took place at daytime, gloomy weather was planned for Apus. Wolfcastle was planned to appear as an NPC Wiggum, Jasper and Eddie have FMV models. That are never used to my knowledge. Going back to the unused food mechanic. Marge could give homer food in level 1 & Lisa could give Marge food in level 4. Orinally in L1M2 Flanders could be seen watering his flowers Here's some info for buildings meant to appear in different Zones. The L1 zones are probably before the map redesign: Evergreen Terrace - Miss Glick, Lenny, Apu and Lovejoy had homes planned for Evergreen Terrace. But not Wiggum. Commercial building area - Wiggums house was near the Kwik E mart, Phineas Q buffet was also near there. Krusty burger had a drive through similar to what you mentioned as being in L3 School area - Skinner and Milhouses homes were located here. Municipal - Church, retirement castle, Stonecutters, supermarket and community centre located here Burns mansion had a Maze garden Sticks- Mainly the same but snake also had a home here Cemetery - Originally there was a working drawbridge near here L2 Originally had more adult stores planned to be around town. Most were removed prior to launch The History Museum and Stadium had planned interiors for the scrapped boss fights. Inside the museum adverts for cardboard boxes throught history and other funny ads would appear. Springfield prison was to be in L2 near the police station rather than in L1 on the hill beside the School. In L1 Miss glicks hedges were gonna be a jumping puzzle L3M6 had a car that would drop fish The iconic DIET sign was planned to be on the map. The planet of the apes the musical billboard seen in road rage was planned to return. All generic houses had usable doorbells There was an unused answering machine gag. Most audio for it still exists in the files of the final release. A line of Dialogue from Louie is removed in some countries. Random skinner lines could trigger when entering school Larry the looter cutscene originally ended with a dont do drugs messages Chief wiggum could Originally be found inside the squishy machine in level 7, activating it would cause his body to stir within the machine. Originally kicking the popcicle skyscraper in L2 caused popsicle sticks to fall out Red car in try & save was enterable but would fall apart causing Nelson to laugh, it was also once driveable. Pig head gag in L3 originally caused bart and lisa to say Ew! Springfield sign was once breakable (maybe still is with the honk to jump cheat) Ralph and Moleman could spawn in the monkey teleporter sometimes Kwik-E-Mart was going to be unavailable in level 7, explains why Apu can be called from the phonebooth in the final. Originally Willy who appears behind Springfield Elementary School could have been Skinner or Krabapple if Willys VA was unavailable. Agnes could appear in or around the comic store. Ralph could be found on a crate at the seaside. Considered character costumes: Dancin homer, big foam hat homer, wedding dress homer, Jamaican homer, Naval war uniform homer, homers bathrobe, snakes hair homer. Fallout boy bart, fly head bart, Equestrian Lisa, Lil miss Springfield lisa, braces Lisa, black dress lisa. High school marge. Wedding Apu Moe, Lovejoy, Bumblebee man, Barney, Scorpio and Carl in zombie car. Could Originally be called from phonebooths as drivers of there cars. Bart in his Ferini was gonna appear in L7M1 as an NPC vehicle Passanger characters could once point at different things. Like maybe important NPCs or mission objectives Lard Lad was once a boss battle in L7 Coins would not carry over between level (thank goodness that was removed) Cheat codes were originally found on the tenth collector card of each level There was a bullet time like mechanic in the racing minigame. The team had an idea where the first 1000 people to submit a code for collecting all cards would recive a real life card Also a real life card game was planned Cars could be unlocked by destroying certain objects. For example you would get a car by destroying Mr Burns mailbox in order to prevent an embarrassing letter from Homer being received. An unused mission mode similar to Road Rage Alternative playable characters for collecting all cards in a level. Not sure how this would work. Originally the Police Station, Krusty Burger, Church, Prison and Social club all had planned interiors Moe originally could ride the Duff Truck Flanders Motor Home and McBains hummer were planned to be used as cars 5 celebrity guest stars were planned Police and other enemies could call for backup and create blockades Family portrait once located on or near monkey bars Coins for kicking peds Originally wasp cams would show up if the player was doing something interesting. Such as leaving a store in a new outfit.
Dude im sooo glad i found this vid, you popped up at the right time lol, ive been replaying this game and been obssessed with all the small stuff that make the game so cool. Id be really interested in more in depth videos on the last section of your vid !
"A time before the internet..." "2009" ??? Before the internet, 2009? TF? Bro, the internet was such a big thing by then that GTA IV had a full blown in-game internet parody lmao
36:56 oh i get that completely i was the same way. i remember i was scared of level 7 as a kid because of the opening where you overhear kent brockman getting mauled alive by the zombies over the news, then walking outside and seeing zombies *everywhere.* for some reason i thought that the zombies would be aggressive, so i always stayed in my car and never walked in the street, until realizing that the zombies behaved like normal civies. i completely get where you coming from on that, and kinda want to thank you for opening a door of nostalgia thats been closed for over a decade with that. great video brother, you got yourself a subbie-wubbie!
I never realized that pushing Karl into the power plant was another way of cheating that race, I always just parked my car partway into the entrance and did it that way
Wow, I learned so many new facts from this video! I've spent thousands of hours playing and watching speedruns. Can't get enough of it. Thanks so much for the effort you put into this! Would love to see more. Cheers!
Man thanks a lot for this video! I love little niche facts like the ones present through the entirety of this iceberg, cause Hit&Run was also one of those games i obsessed over as a kid, but either i dont recall em or i just flat out never knew a single stuff that was on the video lol, guess i wasnt that much of a fan Nah but really, i would spend the evenings exploring the town and checking the references, but never stumbled upon any of these glitches or anything, makes me wanna replay it with all this new knowledge Oh and one more thing, i really like how you included things such as the taste of krusty burgers or the fake dinosaur car, one may think they add nothing since they are just personal experiences unrelated to the game itself, but they remind me of that kid age where everyone would've been onto those thoughts
Great video! Ik u said u cut stuff but i cant help but bring up more. During the bart shirt on the cover and the game manual bits i couldnt believe u didnt say abt the hydrants water being misaligned in some versions of the boxart. One of my favourite hidden mistakes abt the game. Theres a bunch of weird shit abt the vehicles too. Like the all cars cheat when u 100% the game has unused cars, unused audi in the games files (im pretty sure its an audi), car speeds, the fact the longhorn is brown when it should be red (my theory is that they had it next to marge with canyonero and barts ferrini so wanted it to not be red for variety) and the glitch where u can have no driver in vehicles that usually have one or the fact that the drivers dont appear in some levels due to them being npcs. Those kinda things could probably make their own video. Again, amazing video. My kind of niche. Its the kind where it just makes you wanna comment every minute fact abt the game. Also, as a kid i seriously thought i was the only one in the world who found out that Snake drives around the whole map forever in level 2. I had never seen footage of anyone doing it. Thank u for covering it
Didn’t know about the fire hydrants, a longhorn makes sense. Thanks for the words there a lot of stuff I could still cover, the Cara stuff is cool, I forgot to mention that the car pileup in level 1 is road rage assets and there is a black ferini in the 100% all cars cheat. Your welcome and thanks for watching
'Krusty Burger Imprinted Taste' - now this is exactly the type of absolute NONSENSE that I love. But honestly, this was such a fun and well made video. Haven't played this game probably since I was about 7 years old but now I really want to fire it up again. It's insane how much I remembered about the game seeing as I hadn't even seen this game, let alone played it, in over 15 years lmao. Please do more content like this (and more Joeyy stuff bc he is the GOAT).
Finally another good post 2020 iceberg and video. Can't believe you could leave out the groundbreaking find that was a beta build with Graggle still in it though! lol
you have a very nice narration voice :) easy subscribe for how lovely this video was. i played this game at least 3 times all the way through as a kid with my dad on my xbox , I would love to see more content talking about easter eggs or glitches and stuff! thank you
This is a fantastic video! Honestly, my only complaint is that it isn’t longer. But pretty sure that’s one of the first rules of show-business, leave them wanting more. Definitely a well earned subscription, can’t wait to see what future vids you got
this will forever be my fav game ever even if it's very limited in mission variety and quantity. The soundtrack and feel just hold so much weight for me personally
If you have the pc version of hit and run I highly recommend trying all the cool mods people have made I think some people are even making new mods today
As someone who spent hundreds of hours on this game over the years of my childhood, I can’t tell you how amazing and interesting it is to find out new information and secrets that were there the whole time but which I never knew about! Amazing video☺️
When I was a kid, the Lard Lad specifically used to terrify me so I never played Level 7 at all when I was young. I've technically never even completed the game as a result as I don't have the game anymore but that memory is so vivid to me.
Something also not known much is that you can do burnouts in this game, when done successfully it'll leave a slight fire trail on the ground and the car will accelerate very quick. Just hold the handbrake and gas at the same time for few seconds and then let off the handbrake when slight fire appears on the wheels and the tire smoke becomes dark black, when you let go off the handbrake the car will dart off very fast. This can be done most consistently with the faster cars like the Police Car, Hearse, Ferrini and such, but I believe other high speed stat cars can do it too.
The purple dinosaur car you mentioned reminded me of one of my friends telling me a similar lie when we were in 4th grade or so. He told me there was a "Heaven" and "Hell" car respectively, the "Heaven" car in Level 1 and the "Hell" car in Level 7. They both looked modeled after the rocket car from Level 1. How he told me to get the Heaven car was never get a Hit and Run or run over anybody, or anything for that matter. To get the Hell car you needed to get a Hit and Run 666 times. It's hilarious the lies we kinda just believed as kids, but it makes me nostalgic too.
2:43 To my understanding, that kick launch bug is the game erroneously thinking the character is below the ground. Normally when a character is in a flail state, the game will try to push them upwards if they are below the ground. When an NPC is kicked for the first time, they'll either get launched upwards or topple awkwardly without being pushed. The game probably still thinks that NPC is out of bounds somehow and soon corrects this after the NPC enters a flail state for the first time. 10:57 It's just a mistake. It's like the water from the fire hydrant being improperly placed. Older instances of the blue shirt was because they were based on old promotional art for the show where Bart had a blue shirt. 15:36 Funny, because the jumpzone trigger is misplaced for that shortcut. It's placed to the left of the fence instead of on the grass like it was intended. 19:54 I believe these were leftovers for when SHAR originally had a stamina gauge for the player. From the looks of it, you could've talked to the SVT through that window to buy food to regain your stamina. Some lines were meant for this feature like characters complaining about sprinting for too long and when you talk to Apu or the SVT when not on a mission.
Interesting thing about the CIA conspiracy theory at the end. There is one car in this game that is immune to the Level 7 UFO's tractor beam. The Black Ferrini's that are labelled as Alien Probes by the Comic Book Guy. The car has this effect so that it can sit underneath the beam before you start Long Black Probes.
Amazing vid. Grew up with the game, it reaaally meant alot to me as a kid when I was too young to play GTA like my older cousins, but had this game is the perfect fill-in. The theatre text being different everytime blew my mind, this game always held a mystique to me, but really shows for what it is in this video. Hope they remake it in the future without changing it too much, the charm of this game is immaculate.
kinda same here, most of my buddies played san andreas at that time but hit and run is so goated its not even close, gta 3 has really dated gameplay but the aesthetics and feeling of it is so unique, absolute hood classic for sure
One not on here, the unused Agnes Skinner model. She's in Skinners car but she was supposed to have a proper in game NPC model. You can find it with a cheat that lets you play as every character model on Action Replay. Also #ReleasetheDinosaurCar
"This van is already dead, it just doesn't know it" ahh music On the side note, beautifully constructed video, as someone who basically also plays the game for over a decade now, I was almost completely lost on the last stage, especially the CIA + Aliens, you're the definition of underrated 🤝
Yeah, Level 7 felt absolutely dire. Completely contrasted with the rest of the game. The loading screen was horrifying. I expected Homer's tuba cues to come back... I remember feeling unsettled when Bart became sloshed, and the tension easing when you played as him a second time. Going from that feeling of relief to level 7 caused me to not touch the game for a year. I also expected the NPCs in 7 to be hostile as a kid.
7:34 I thought I was going crazy when I discovered that bug on the Apu level at the unfinished road jump, I'm glad other people are aware of this one lol
Damnit, i didnt think id sit through this whole video, but here i am. you showed me everything i never knew about this game as a kid, now i have to bust it out and investigate and see these things for myself.
The idea that Set to Kill ended up being so difficult because of a developer oversight makes me feel a lot better about those times I threw the controller at the wall because of how much I felt I sucked at the game for being simply UNABLE to beat this mission as a kid.
11:00 his shirt is blue because it’s meant to be shadowed by the windshield, seems like they accidentally colored his sleeves the same color, despite them not being behind the windshield.
I was 9 when this came out, and had to do some serious negotiating with my parents that it wouldn't be too violent so that they would buy it for me 😅 Great video, so much nostalgia!
The Kearney gag models use the same character swatches as all other characters in the game, i suspect in development they moved the colours round on the swatch texture and thus the UV mapping made his gag model appear orange and white and it never got rectified properly.
12:12 I wanted to check if it's actually true because I had the Xbox version of the manual by hand and every icon was old 3D, EXCEPT Flanders. His icon is the new one. But the rest uses the old beta icons. I didn't find anything else different with my manual and the manual in the video.
Just wanted to tell you I really enjoyed the video and that particularly the Krusty Burger segment is gonna live rent free in my mind for a long while, holy shit that was funny
I recently bought a PS2 and a bunch of games including Hit & Run, I only got to watch the game get played by my older cousins at our local Pizza Ranch which had a small side room with a PlayStation that had no memory card. I only realized replaying nowadays there’s more then just driving around as Homer.
There was this specific glitch which went viral in the speedrunning community of this game, there was a video of hit and run of a guy playing through it or something, and he discovers a cola machine which would basically give him unlimited coins, as it was unbreakable. i believe it was in barts 1st level somewhere. but once it was discovered in that vid years later, no one has ever been able to replicate that glitch even with the source code now. maybe you could dive into that? i could try find the video if it peaks ur interest too haha
That's fake. He modded the vending machines so that they don't change states when damaged. I pretended that it was real on that video because it was funny to join in on the tomfoolery. And before you think about harassing him about it, just leave him be. Both of us have already been through enough hate brigades.
@fp45 there was something else on the cover that wasnt mentioned! On the ps2 cover the water coming from the fire hydrant is misplaced. Theyre far apart. Oh, and in level 1 i swear theres a glitch that converts all pedestrians into power plant workers
32:39 I always assumed level 6 actually takes place during the AMs rather than evenings. Judging by the moon and sun being around the same position in levels 3 and 6
@fp45 I think the newspaper are there to tell you what day it is mostly and have funny headlines to go with them and this game happens across several days from October 25th to October 31st
I'm surprised that there wasn't an entry for being able to get into Mr. Burns' giant Chess Board on Level 1, I guess it's not that out of the way but I have fond memories of finding it myself as a kid
okay realtalk tho that krusty burger phenomenon is legit! whenever i see someone on tv or in a youtube video eat something spicy, i start to get like physical empathy and start tasting whatever theyre eating and sweating. it only works for spicy food for me but theres got to be some rare psychosomatic trigger that's linked to this.
Also i loved level 7, and hated it, the mountains evil faces in the background skybox and the (Seemingly giant) witches flying in the sky. i did love the fact it was Halloween themed otherwise at least to me. Don't know if some of these comments are true or not but that's what kept me interested as a kid, the unknown myths and rumors as well, love it.
One of my earliest memories of finding a glitch came from this game. In levels one, four, and seven, take the fire truck to the immobile fire truck ramp beside the Kwik-E-Mart and drive up it slowly. Let the fire truck teeter on the end of the ramp so that it will fall to the ground. Get out and you should be stood on top of the fire truck. Let it fall to the ground while you're standing on top of it and when you get in it again, the fire truck suddenly gains a massive speed boost (as if you had the fast vehicle cheat activated). It's a completely useless find (so it's no good for speedruns for example), but it's obscure nonetheless.
So not sure how serious you were about the last thing about the aliens and CIA working together. But a few corrections. Either the "Black Van Pizza Delivery" was always a red herring or just a way to aquire more footage for the show Foolish Earth Creatures. The self driving car thing is weird I admit. The black cars you see in level 7 are, as described as Comic Book Guy, "advanced probes from the mothership", as for why they have dudes driving them, no idea. The "distracting" mass panic of the dead rising wasn't a diversion tactic, that was the intention. To make big rating for "Foolish Earth Creatures". That being said, I think you're at least onto something. That perhaps Kang and Kodos acted as puppet masters on cola intoxicated people to advance their goals.
One thing that I found quite interesting is that I grew up with the gamecube version and you could drive the cars with the right trigger, which you can’t do with the ps2 version. Interesting thing though is that the trigger on a gamecube obviously is different to the ps2 R2 button (which is just a button) meaning you can drive your car slower. I remember the rocket car even had an animation with this where the rocket could be made smaller. Found it so weird that the vehicles only have one speed on the ps2 version
I reckon Bart having a blue shirt in some promotional material may have something to do with standing out against Lisa. They both have the exact same colour scheme from the waist up, and in order to make it more eye catching, they changed his shirt colour. That’s why in the other ones you mentioned he still has his normal shirt, because he’s not positioned next to Lisa (in fact Lisa isn’t on the box art at all).
One thing i realized was never mentioned; on the ps2 cover, at least on mine, the water coming from the fire hydrant is way out of place. There is a noticeable gap between the hydrant and water.
they misspelled ungulate on the milk truck, it could be hippo milk or even whale milk if the ungulate label is correct, but not rat milk. rats are rodents, not ungulates.
As a child on the GameCube version, in Level 1 you could drive the rocket car from the Power Plant tunnel at full speed on the pavement in front of Mr Burns Mansion and hit the corner at the end to clip out of bounds.

20:00 According to the source code leak a while back, originally your characters sprint was not infinite and required filling a food meter to use. The lines the characters say to Apu and the Squeaky voice teen about ordering food are probably leftovers from that idea as well
makes sense
And isn't the squeaky voice teen always outside the Krusty Burger in each level? Because this can also be leftovers to this cut feature.
@@nokori4415 You might be right. I know he's there in L7 and in a mission in L2, L3 he's outside the Krusty Burger.
Goddamn that would have made the game so much more tedious, thank god they got rid of that, lol
Level 7 is the icing on the cake, the story is paced as if you're in a dream and you are aware a nightmare is forming before your eyes.
damn
Level 1 is the most relaxing level of any game in history. A bright sunny morning, the iconic relaxing music, most of the missions are a slow steady pace. Like you mentioned the way the story goes from that to level 7 is a trip to say the least
Hes right
Xhe's right you know
@@jakemcdonough7712I used to roleplay as a kid on Level 1, 3 and 4 sometimes, just pretending it was a normal day and I had chores or things to do, taking it slow.
Oh really? Never knew that will have to play that again myself

11:01 blue shirt bart is a graphic design choice. his shirt is adjacent to a red car surrounded by fire, + Lisa's red dress. you wouldn't want to make barts shirt orange if you don't have to.
huh, never thought of it that way
high IQ take
The shirt isn't even blue. It's just the shadow behind the windshield. You can see his sleeves are still orange

Cutscenes was cut to save space on the disk.Lots of pirated games for ps2 was like that in that time.
your friend gaslighting you about the purple dinosaur car reminded me of something i was always convinced as as a kid, and i never once saw anyone talk about it to this day, but when i was a kid playing this game, i would watch the intro movie often enough to take note that the game shows a clip of homer driving the monster in level 1, and that clip always perplexed me because the monster obviously isn't in level 1. so i became obsessed over tracking it down, and making up my own criterias i convinced myself of try and find it. my first running theory was it was some kind of hundo reward, so when i beat the game 100% for the first time, the first thing i did was go to level 1, and i searched literally every nook and cranny of the map, doing MULTIPLE laps of it to try and track down the monster, and was inevitably disappointed.
nowadays, i know that you can get the monster from the phone booth after getting hundo and inputting that one cheat code to get any car from the booth, but even now im just thinking, why in the fuck would they put that clip in the intro movie? i mean, maybe the monster was initially the special car in level 1 instead of the rocket? still fucked up they left that clip in the final movie because it turned little kid me into a conspiracy theorist, racking my brain why in the fuck i couldn't find the dumbass car ever.
that is so fucking true
gaslighting yourself into believing bullshit is a childhood staple, like I was so adamant about Krystal from Star Fox Adventures being a playable character in brawl to the sad degree of spending all night in Subspace trying to unlock everyone just to prove it.
Dude, I used to think getting all the Precursor Orbs in Jak 3 would restore Haven City to look like the map from Jak 2.
I thought it was a fever dream so thank you for showing me I’m not crazy cos this thing scared the shit out of me when I found it
37:07
Can confirm that I used to find this level very creepy, in particular the skeleton props in areal like the Kwik-E-Mart
Fun Fact: Kwik Cash was originally supposed to have a 3:30 time limit to destroy the armored truck, so had that time limit not been scrapped, it likely would’ve topped Set To Kill as the hardest mission in the game
damn fr? thats brutal
@fp45
The time limit probably wouldn't have been so bad had the Bandit been given invincibility like the Canyonero in Bonestorm Storm, but since it didn't have that, it was a good thing they ditched the time limit
There's also the brick car too!
(Apologies if this was mentioned in the video already)
Your description of how you think a Krusty Burger tastes seems very spot on to how it would probably be if it was real.
I was still a Simpsons fan back when I first played this, and I remember feeling delighted by Level 7 because I thought it was mimicking a Treehouse of Horror episode. It probably isn't, but it's theme made the level more special.
It 100% mimics the treehouse of horror. 2 of Homer's costumes in level 7 are from the Treehouse of Horror episodes.
@@cyqry The entire game is essentially a treehouse of horror game, it's just most explicit in the last level.
I feel like you could fairly easily do a part 2 to this video including even more obscure things like the nuke car glitch that most people (even people who know the game really well) don’t even know about!
Awesome video, great to see some fresh Hit and Run content! There's tons of cool stuff here I've never known before!

Surprised the Red Brick car didnt get mentioned, it was a cheat code I think that replaced all secret cars with a car made of lego. I feel like I remember seeing it in a magazine too which made me think there was a maggie level because of the toy theme hahaha
You’re telling me you’ve got hundo thousands of times and still haven’t driven the purple dino car?
hahahaha
Great video. If you ever do a part 2 here's some stuff you could include:
Unused Evergreen Terrace homes - Source code leak had mailbox props for the homes of the Skinner's, Lovejoys and Milhouses(for some reason there mailbox said Milhouse rather than his actual last name)
Unused NPCs - Krabapple has several unused gags in the SC leak as well as a screenshot in the sc leak. Sc leak also mentioned plans to add Sideshow bob if they had enough time and Poochie has an unused model.
Unused gags - such as the previously mentioned Krabapple one, a bull ride in Moes bar(sc leak) and an inflatable doll intended for the Androids dungeon (data in final game, model found in SC leak)
The Area code signs in Levels 1, 4 & 7 showing an early version of the map in the image.
Level 7 Rock out easter egg
The Audi TT and other unused cars.
4 maps/ Level 8 - SC again details originally there would be 4 maps repeated twice. Ideas for locations in each map were written out and what would be in each zone. However most of the 4th maps ideas got recycled for the other maps.
8 missions per level - originally some bonus missions were part of the main story line
Boss fights - 3 boss fights were planned but all seem to repeat the same idea being Truckasaurus in L2, Fossil Dinosaur in L5 and Duff/ buzz cola Dinosaur in L7 (Last one was gonna be Ralph controlling it through a motion capture suit somehow???)
Barneys L6 appearance- SC leak mentions Moleman being considered for the role.
Ps2 texture bug when calling cars repeatedly. Happened to me as a kid alot.
Unused dash mechanic where food would be required to fill a sprint meter.
Placeholder texture. You made reference to Kearneys shirt being orange. I believe this is simply a Placeholder. The scratchy Balloon in the L5 bonus mission and early footage has the same orange texture in it's gloves
Cover art error - on the box for the game the water coming out from the hydrant is actually misplaced to the left a little making it look like the water is coming out of nowhere.
The icons used for missions are also colour coded depending on the objective
Development beginnings - 70s sports car concept art predated the release of Road Rage by 10 days
L2 diffrent skyboxes - originally L2 was gonna take place in early morning going by the scrap book, then during a cloudy day based on early footage and the bonus game, before appearing in it's final form
WOW. i am writing this down thanks for the input

Donut truck is listed in L1 traffic for some reason
3 unused gags of kissing between Krabapple & Skinner. One inside School, one outside and the final being outside CBGs store in L3
Gag of Grampa riding a mechanical bull in Moes
Gag of Homer eating cheese was originally gonna be in Moes as well
Originally Springfield Gorge was visible from the observatory in L3 and there would be a gag of Homer failing to make the jump on a Skateboard.
Gag of Bart writing on the elementary schools chalkboard.
Gag of Jimbo and Kearney stealing the Mechanical bull and Love tester from Moes
Gag of Carl and lenny punching each other in the corner of Moes. Smiling and yelling i-so-topes
Another L3 gag from the observatory of Otto spewing cream corn from a truck into the Springfield Gorge.
Spinemelter card was originally located at the barn near the powerplant. Rather than the pathway near the Stonecutters building.
Marge and Apus levels once took place at daytime, gloomy weather was planned for Apus.
Wolfcastle was planned to appear as an NPC
Wiggum, Jasper and Eddie have FMV models. That are never used to my knowledge.
Going back to the unused food mechanic. Marge could give homer food in level 1 & Lisa could give Marge food in level 4.
Orinally in L1M2 Flanders could be seen watering his flowers
Here's some info for buildings meant to appear in different Zones. The L1 zones are probably before the map redesign:
Evergreen Terrace - Miss Glick, Lenny, Apu and Lovejoy had homes planned for Evergreen Terrace. But not Wiggum.
Commercial building area - Wiggums house was near the Kwik E mart, Phineas Q buffet was also near there. Krusty burger had a drive through similar to what you mentioned as being in L3
School area - Skinner and Milhouses homes were located here.
Municipal - Church, retirement castle, Stonecutters, supermarket and community centre located here
Burns mansion had a Maze garden
Sticks- Mainly the same but snake also had a home here
Cemetery - Originally there was a working drawbridge near here
L2 Originally had more adult stores planned to be around town. Most were removed prior to launch
The History Museum and Stadium had planned interiors for the scrapped boss fights. Inside the museum adverts for cardboard boxes throught history and other funny ads would appear.
Springfield prison was to be in L2 near the police station rather than in L1 on the hill beside the School.
In L1 Miss glicks hedges were gonna be a jumping puzzle
L3M6 had a car that would drop fish
The iconic DIET sign was planned to be on the map.
The planet of the apes the musical billboard seen in road rage was planned to return.
All generic houses had usable doorbells
There was an unused answering machine gag. Most audio for it still exists in the files of the final release.
A line of Dialogue from Louie is removed in some countries.
Random skinner lines could trigger when entering school
Larry the looter cutscene originally ended with a dont do drugs messages
Chief wiggum could Originally be found inside the squishy machine in level 7, activating it would cause his body to stir within the machine.
Originally kicking the popcicle skyscraper in L2 caused popsicle sticks to fall out
Red car in try & save was enterable but would fall apart causing Nelson to laugh, it was also once driveable.
Pig head gag in L3 originally caused bart and lisa to say Ew!
Springfield sign was once breakable (maybe still is with the honk to jump cheat)
Ralph and Moleman could spawn in the monkey teleporter sometimes
Kwik-E-Mart was going to be unavailable in level 7, explains why Apu can be called from the phonebooth in the final.
Wedding Apu
Moe, Lovejoy, Bumblebee man, Barney, Scorpio and Carl in zombie car. Could Originally be called from phonebooths as drivers of there cars.
Bart in his Ferini was gonna appear in L7M1 as an NPC vehicle
Passanger characters could once point at different things. Like maybe important NPCs or mission objectives
Lard Lad was once a boss battle in L7
Coins would not carry over between level (thank goodness that was removed)
Cheat codes were originally found on the tenth collector card of each level
There was a bullet time like mechanic in the racing minigame.
The team had an idea where the first 1000 people to submit a code for collecting all cards would recive a real life card
Also a real life card game was planned
Cars could be unlocked by destroying certain objects. For example you would get a car by destroying Mr Burns mailbox in order to prevent an embarrassing letter from Homer being received.
An unused mission mode similar to Road Rage
Alternative playable characters for collecting all cards in a level. Not sure how this would work.
Originally the Police Station, Krusty Burger, Church, Prison and Social club all had planned interiors
Moe originally could ride the Duff Truck
Flanders Motor Home and McBains hummer were planned to be used as cars
5 celebrity guest stars were planned
Police and other enemies could call for backup and create blockades
Family portrait once located on or near monkey bars
Coins for kicking peds
Originally wasp cams would show up if the player was doing something interesting. Such as leaving a store in a new outfit.

Man thanks a lot for this video! I love little niche facts like the ones present through the entirety of this iceberg, cause Hit&Run was also one of those games i obsessed over as a kid, but either i dont recall em or i just flat out never knew a single stuff that was on the video lol, guess i wasnt that much of a fan
Nah but really, i would spend the evenings exploring the town and checking the references, but never stumbled upon any of these glitches or anything, makes me wanna replay it with all this new knowledge
Oh and one more thing, i really like how you included things such as the taste of krusty burgers or the fake dinosaur car, one may think they add nothing since they are just personal experiences unrelated to the game itself, but they remind me of that kid age where everyone would've been onto those thoughts
Thank u for covering it
Didn’t know about the fire hydrants, a longhorn makes sense. this will forever be my fav game ever even if it's very limited in mission variety and quantity. The soundtrack and feel just hold so much weight for me personally
If you have the pc version of hit and run I highly recommend trying all the cool mods people have made I think some people are even making new mods today
2:43 I remember doing the kick launch to Groundskeeper Willie as a kid by accident and didn't know how to do it again lol.
This can be done most consistently with the faster cars like the Police Car, Hearse, Ferrini and such, but I believe other high speed stat cars can do it too.
yeah i kinda forget you can do burnouts they're neat but i never really use them
The purple dinosaur car you mentioned reminded me of one of my friends telling me a similar lie when we were in 4th grade or so.
Some lines were meant for this feature like characters complaining about sprinting for too long and when you talk to Apu or the SVT when not on a mission.
writing this down
Interesting thing about the CIA conspiracy theory at the end. There is one car in this game that is immune to the Level 7 UFO's tractor beam. The Black Ferrini's that are labelled as Alien Probes by the Comic Book Guy. The car has this effect so that it can sit underneath the beam before you start Long Black Probes.
wtf yeah your right
Amazing vid.
Great video. Felt like taking a joyride down memory lane.

I remember feeling unsettled when Bart became sloshed, and the tension easing when you played as him a second time. Going from that feeling of relief to level 7 caused me to not touch the game for a year.
I also expected the NPCs in 7 to be hostile as a kid.
Nice vid. You lost me at the Krusty Burger taste thing tho.
The most mind blowing fact for me is the manual saying you can evade the cops by switching cars at phone booths ala GTA. Never knew that!
28:02 - There exists a Krusty Burger at Universal Studios, perhaps you have memories of eating a Krusty Burger there?
The lightlole launch glitch happened in level 3 at that weird gate thing by the bowl-a-rama
39:00 the idksterling music my brain is fully rotted 😭😭😭
OHOHOHOOOO
ahahahhahahaaaaha
Just leaving a comment for the algorithm, great vid
I was 9 when this came out, and had to do some serious negotiating with my parents that it wouldn't be too violent so that they would buy it for me 😅 Great video, so much nostalgia!
ty
The Kearney gag models use the same character swatches as all other characters in the game, i suspect in development they moved the colours round on the swatch texture and thus the UV mapping made his gag model appear orange and white and it never got rectified properly.
12:12 I wanted to check if it's actually true because I had the Xbox version of the manual by hand and every icon was old 3D, EXCEPT Flanders. His icon is the new one. But the rest uses the old beta icons. I didn't find anything else different with my manual and the manual in the video.
Just wanted to tell you I really enjoyed the video and that particularly the Krusty Burger segment is gonna live rent free in my mind for a long while, holy shit that was funny
ty
i love this, the best simpsons hit & run iceberg, imo
ty
I recently bought a PS2 and a bunch of games including Hit & Run, I only got to watch the game get played by my older cousins at our local Pizza Ranch which had a small side room with a PlayStation that had no memory card. I only realized replaying nowadays there’s more then just driving around as Homer.
Very interesting video! It would be really cool if you could do a video only on the pre-release changes
Holy shit
That's fake. He modded the vending machines so that they don't change states when damaged. I pretended that it was real on that video because it was funny to join in on the tomfoolery. And before you think about harassing him about it, just leave him be. Both of us have already been through enough hate brigades.
@@ObsoIeteQuality yo did you make the giant cog mod? If so I fuck with it hardcore
@@fp45 Guilty as charged.
@@ObsoIeteQuality Was it the really old video? Not the one where the guy specifically says he found it
I've had this game for almost two decades now and I'm just finding out that Bart is wearing a blue shirt on the cover
hahahahahaha
@fp45 there was something else on the cover that wasnt mentioned! On the ps2 cover the water coming from the fire hydrant is misplaced. Theyre far apart.
Oh, and in level 1 i swear theres a glitch that converts all pedestrians into power plant workers
32:39 I always assumed level 6 actually takes place during the AMs rather than evenings. Judging by the moon and sun being around the same position in levels 3 and 6
that would make some sense for sure, i dont think anyone has a concrete timeline of events
@fp45 I think the newspaper are there to tell you what day it is mostly and have funny headlines to go with them and this game happens across several days from October 25th to October 31st
goddamn bro this is a long ass video, lets gooo
I'm surprised that there wasn't an entry for being able to get into Mr. Burns' giant Chess Board on Level 1, I guess it's not that out of the way but I have fond memories of finding it myself as a kid
11:06 its cause of the car he is driving, his shirt is behind the blue front glass so it looks blue, but you can slightly see orange in his sleeves
11:00 barts shirt is clearly red/orange, the part thats behind the window is blue but thats because its through the window
okay realtalk tho that krusty burger phenomenon is legit! whenever i see someone on tv or in a youtube video eat something spicy, i start to get like physical empathy and start tasting whatever theyre eating and sweating. it only works for spicy food for me but theres got to be some rare psychosomatic trigger that's linked to this.
10:08 oooooohhhhhh, so that's why I could only play 3 missions on my old pc
lmao
20:40 me and my brother discovered this last year and started testing it in different situations.
very good video, i enjoyed it
Also i loved level 7, and hated it, the mountains evil faces in the background skybox and the (Seemingly giant) witches flying in the sky. i did love the fact it was Halloween themed otherwise at least to me. Don't know if some of these comments are true or not but that's what kept me interested as a kid, the unknown myths and rumors as well, love it.
Level 7 scared me too lol the spider dropping from the tree did it. Also it took me ages to find the level 6 car
The aliens probably controlled the probe cars drivers
This was my favorite game as a kid and finding out things i never knew Is awesome keep up the food work
One thing that I found quite interesting is that I grew up with the gamecube version and you could drive the cars with the right trigger, which you can’t do with the ps2 version.
You can also control the car with the triggers in the xbox version aswell so it seems to was removed from ps2 due to the lack of analog triggers
Surprised there was no mention of the unused music triggers OOB in level 7
