- Hello there! Captain Rex brings a new Clone to the 501st: a trooper from the Clone Wars 2003 animated series! Now this old veteran must learn the truth about the 2008 Star Wars The Clone Wars series, and how legends canon is quite different from Lucasfilm canon.

Huge thanks to RedSun for voicing all the different Clones in this video!
Also, background soundtracks are from JFO and Star Wars: 1313

Red Sun over paradise...
When is the next one coming out?
RedSun did an amazing job! The 2003 clone is the real Sigma Clone.
I like how Order 66 was an entire conversation and nobody was like "ayo we should report this".
You can see that on the campaign of the original Star Wars Battlefront 2 on the original Xbox and Ps2

Tbf there was a counter order where you could arrest the Chancellor I believe in the lore the Jedi knew about the Order originally but because it had a counter Order didn’t think anything of it.
I love how you absolutely nailed the contrast between the 03 clones and 08 clones, down to the voices.
The only thing is some ARCs outright loved the Jedi, look at Fordo
Gosh I love the bit the "pure" clone bit.
They got different accents

My opinion is that Captain Keeli was the closest we got. And that during development, the Mandalorians and their warrior society should have sampled more from Temuera's roots or apply some flavor from across Polynesia.
This is hilarious.
Gotta appreciate how brutal 2003 was and how much they toned it down for 2008. Both great series.

Exactly! I see no reason why both types can't exist in this vast army.
"Porque nos dos?"
Nah 2008 was better

It’s almost certain that they did. Any one of the galactic marines fits the 03 Clone personality to a T. It’s a big part of why the clones are so cool and unique as a force. Despite being literal clones of another person no two are truly identical and I’d argue that almost none of them are really like Jango Fett in any way save combat ability.
The only exception to that that I can immediately think of is Alpha 17. Still after all these years he’s still among the hardest SOBs in fiction. Cold as ice and tough as steel.

It seems perfectly rational that the war started with these high standards and strict regulations, but during the war, these boundaries slowly eroded. Like.. This is the story of every war.

Yeah, but the bad batch was intentional.
@@collinmordecai7178 I think they were the lucky few with mutations the Kaminoans saw as useful while a crap ton more had mutations that were more cancerous than helpful.
@@collinmordecai7178 which is even stupider. if the kaminoans can create clones with superpowers....why only create 4 of them? -.-
@@Cyro_2235 They are experimenting mutations. The project was recent. Only regular cloning was needed. Also a more competent soldier is more expensive. @@aamirrazak3467 Since you’re talking about forgotten canon clones, we need to bring back Kano, boomer, buzz, draa, boil, appo, and all the forgotten clones from the Clone wars.
@@chrisluong0852I can agree with Kano and Boomer because they weren't in TCW, they were in that one Clone Wars game that shut down after a few years. Either Buzz or Draa died during the second Battle of Geonosis, Waxer died on Umbara.
The clones from TCW aren't exactly "Forgotten", most of the current Disney stuff is either post RoTJ or not focused on as many recognizable characters (I.e Andor). Maybe we'll see 'em in TBB but that's the only place it would make any sense.
The crossover between 2003 Clone Wars and Star Wars The Clone Wars, a surprise to be sure.
But a welcome one.
The four scariest words for clones to hear:
"I'M COMING FOR YOU!"
"Good soldiers follow orders"
“I am the only pure clone here”
And
“ I can take him” really took the cake
“It’s like Dogma at his worst, but somehow… worse” - A background 501st clone Trooper.
"There was always something off about the 203rd legion before it was broken up and foisted on the rest of us. The first thing we noticed is that they didn't sound like Clones.. at least not Fett clones. Whether this was because of genetic differences or just being trained and raised by someone with a strong Correlian accent was unknown, especially because they never took their helmets off.
The second thing is they didn't act human, almost had more in common with clankers than the rest of us. Never took names, never customized their armor, never asked questions, never saved each other on the battlefield. Didn't even eat in the mess hall with the other clones. The only people who were more unnerved by em than us were the Jedi. They never said it but you could tell they sensed something off about em. Like they knew something we didn't. Still as much as I disliked the creeps I had to admit they were some of the most effective soldiers the Republic had."

1:32 The only reason Kaminoans didn't do that to 99 and Bad Batch is because of Shaak-Ti and also Omega as well.
And the fact the clone force 99 was Nala Se's pet projects that were purposely created to be different.
The clone army was predictable just like the droids, bad batch was purpose made to through a monkey wrench at the enemy

I mean yeah good soldiers follow orders right?
I miss 2003. Such a simple time when clones were clones and orders were orders.
I do feel like they have gotten to much away from the fact these men are supposed to be professional soldiers.
Agreed. 2003 clones were far superior.
@@Southern_Crusader And also are custom-made moral abominations raised on nothing but warfare and propaganda from birth.
The last thing they should be are "normal human beings" as portrayed in 2008.
@@Southern_Crusaderi see your point the clones seemed like they were really strict with how they manage the war just like any “good” soldier would
However I disagree with this depiction because it is unrealistic
Real soldiers were much more “human” regardless of time period
They gave each other nick names and often even rejected parts of their uniform (American helmets during ww2 were not secured to the soldiers head with a strap because of its weight and the possibility that it will cause further harm if it swings backwards resulting in bad injury)
Soldiers often also weren’t very strict yeah in camp they were shaved and what not but on the field they weren’t always uniform they could have some stubble around their jaw which was not u inform
Also modifying uniforms was also a very common thing during Vietnam people would rip off sleeves or even loose their coats to deal with the humid and hot weather
That’s all i have to offer is that while the clones in the past were more uniform and simple
The new ones bring in a whole new perspective into the lives of soldiers and truly showed that soldiers aren’t just something you can throw around on a battle field
@@Southern_Crusaderalso the clones weren’t always being unprofessional on the active war zone
They would see their men die and weep later which seems wrong but in the eyes of their generals (not referring to the Jedi this time) this is something crucial to achieve victory on the battlefield the clones show that they are capable of swallowing their emotions in the heat of battle where as not having emotions really isn’t realistic and yes we are dealing with engineered clones here but remember jengo fett was killed around the start of the war and in the show it was later revealed that they needed him alive to continue producing the perfect emotionless clones and in a way this was probably a good thing since now the clones aren’t that far away from humanity anymore instead with the new clones coming out with more complex personalities and different traits (like a real soldier) one can now depict them as they were from the start

The way I see it, some clones like alpha and Fordo didn’t want names, others like Rex and commander Cody were special cases and were different from the rest and stood out. It’s kind of like when you have a massive group of people that are together for a specific purpose, but there’s a fraction of that group that has different views from the rest.
We don’t know for sure about Fordo.
In the Republic comics, Alpha started giving the clone commanders he trained names because Anakin told him names were easier to remember than unit numbers and it caught on from there until even regular troopers had names.
That part makes sense but I struggle to reconcile the Arc troopers going from a specific type of clone that is bred to be one compared to it now being a job/rank that any clone can become

I never thought about this before, but really. They are all (or both) from the same universe, yet they are so different. I actually like it! I think it goes well with the idea of clones, like the original idea. That we see in Attack of the Clones: they all are the same (except the officers, of course). Then, as time progressed and eventually we get to Revenge of the Sith, it's clear that these changes to become more individuals, has taken place. Now I wonder, if the companies and legions like 501st and 212th existed right from the beginning and they adopted custom armor as time went by, or were these units created as the war progressed.
There are quite a few contradictions in both shows like Grievous already having a coughing problem at the start when it was earlier established that Mace damaged his lungs during the Battle of Coruscant.

It’s funny, the original clone idea was quite cold.
However, George Lucas was the one who planned to create the inhibitor chip and give them more personalities so it’s still Canon that they became more individual.
(also, let’s be more realistic out of millions of clones, not one of them defected and told the Jedi what was being planned? The secret order in bedded in the inhibitor chip was far more likely, and believable.)
I thinks in legends it was handwave away by the jedi only knowing of it as an order to Arrest one jedi, not execute every jedi in the galaxy
@@chheinrich8486 ironically it’s not really legends because this was made up during the time George Lucas was still in charge.
The Jedi knew about Order 66 from day 1, it was right there with the rest of the contingency orders, so the clones wouldn't have had any need to defect and tell them about it. They just never suspected it would be ordered because they'd never try to overthrow the Chancellor. The original idea (that really was only contradicted in the Battlefront 2 campaign) was that the Clones didn't know Order 66 was going to happen either, and so when it came down, they just followed it because that's what they were trained to do: follow those particular orders, which were basically 'break glass in case of emergency/if this order goes out, shit's gotten real serious' orders, without any question. So if Order 66 was issued, then it must be true, and they must kill or capture the Jedi, and the Jedi are formidable fighters, so better to kill them then risk them escaping if they are indeed traitors.
This was super good. Nice job. I like how the old clone has a different voice than the others

It sounds like the 2003 clones were stormtroopers, given the sort of American accent he has.
Meanwhile, Dee Bradley Baker replicated his clone voice to closely match Temuera Morrison's voice.
Anyway, great design that recreates the 2003 clone!
Clones in Clone Wars 2008 were just temuerra morsion guys with his humor sense
Dee gives an Australian accent, Tem is Kiwi accent.
That was the original intent of George. He said in the director's commentary that one of the points of the Kamino scene was showing where the Stormtroopers came from. This is why we're shown multiple generations (the kids who won't be ready for 5 years and the fetuses who won't be ready for 10) and why we have lines from Leia in the OT like "aren't you a little short for a Stormtrooper?"
@@anti-dreamstansunited3391 As an Aussie I'll say this; Dee's Kiwi accent sounds rather botched to the point where it sounds like a forced Australian accent.
@@corruptangel6793 I think George changed his mind between 2 and TCW on clones and their relationship to the Jedi. It was his idea to make em sleeper agents. He also wanted the old clones to be washed up during Underworld which is only a few years after ROTS.
Most likely he wanted Storm Troopers to be Spaarti based on some other guy because Kaminoan Fett Clones were too effective, smart and independent.
This crossover is a 10/10
But this video NEEDED the 2003 clone to mistake Rex for Fordo, and for everyone to act confused since Fordo is a 2003 CW exclusive character
Maybe even have 2003 Cody meet TCW cody?

It would be funny if he was mistaken for Alpha-17, who was even more obscure as he only appeared in the comics. A lot of his characteristics in early episodes where based off of Alpha 17 before he diverged in later episodes.
I love that zoom in to when Rex was told about Order 66, like the meme.
“The *WHAT* !?”
Lmao Jesse’s little smirk when Rex gives Buzzkill his name
And yet the 03 Clones were actually proficient in combat unlike the Proto-Stormtroopers from TCW.
I'd prefer a combination of the classic and TCW Clones. No Inhibitor Chip, but also no foreknowledge of the order aside from protocol in the event of a Jedi Rebellion. They'd have emotions, but they'd be loyal. You'd have your Rex style Clones who aren't loyal. But they'd be the minority.
Isn't that just the classic way though? I mean I never heard of Order 66 being more than a protocol. If Rex was Alpha 17 he would be free to not follow order 66 to. All clones were free thinkers but only Alphas and Nulls were free to choose.
Nah That’s one thing better about canon the inhibitor chip storyline in TCW was so good it added the potential for order 66 to be prevented meaning it hits even harder when it happens.

I always thought that this is basically the difference between the Clone Wars clones and the specific batch that went to Geonosis before the clone numbers grew rapidly. Some Clones like "Buzzkill" here, were still present and typically the ones still on Kamino or in the Coruscant guard

Looks like I’m the odd one out, but having watched the 2003 & 2008 clone wars and read a bunch of the books, I liked the lack of inhibitor chips in legends. I don’t think it was the original intent when Episode 2 came out, and the believability of order 66 was still there when you read the legends explanations of how bad/careless the Jedi were as generals sometimes. Adding inhibitor chips seemed like an easy way to explain things for kids when I saw it in the 2008 show. Either way, love anything having to do with both shows.
Exactly, I mean yes the Jedi were usually good-ish people, but often acted without consideration or thought, for example, mace windu used the clone commandos as shock troopers for the geonosian assault, resulting in over 50% fatalities for the commandos, when commandos are trained specifically for small team operations, they were used poorly, and died horribly as a result, mace is a good Jedi, but a bad military officer, and this is what caused horrific casualties amongst his unit, only a handful of Jedi were proficient at being a field officer.
Those few were the only ones not outright despised by the soldiers beneath them, the real world analogy would the battles of isonzo, look it up.
It happened 11 times.
As for order 66, it was merely 1 of 150 contingency orders known to both the senate and Jedi, can’t recall if it was public knowledge.
It covered everything from mass evacuation of coruscant to any number of parties betraying the republic, including the senate, the Jedi, the chancellor and a dozen other groups/offices.
It wasn’t suspect because everyone had one prepared for them, it’s just good planning.
Real world analogy would be how the US military literally has a plan for everything, from alien invasion to Canada becoming an enemy, both unlikely. But everyone knows the US has those plans, and has plans for each and every country, or major theoretical event.
The chips don’t make sense because they are an unnecessary contrivance that take away from and detracts from the complex characterizations of the characters we enjoy.
Giving people a moral get out of jail free card is awful storytelling.
@@thehammer4607 great comments and insight. The chips ruin the story and are a totally unnecessary plot device.
I think the Chips were meant to answer the key problem of the TCW clones: they were too human. Too independent. It was no longer believable that they'd just spontaneously turn around and massacre the Jedi just because Palpatine ordered it.
@@corruptangel6793 No hate because it’s all a kids sci-fi show at the end of the day, but the legends canon answer was that order 66 was for an attempt to overthrow the chancellor, and technically speaking that’s exactly what the Jedi did (right or wrong). Obviously as a star wars viewer, you’d think that was obviously wrong, but now imagine you’re a cloned super soldier genetically predisposed to obedience who’s spent your entire life training to serve the republic and now some “religious zealots” you don’t think are good leaders to begin with attempt to overthrow the government.
@@tropicalpines4585 In Legends, Order 66 was for any Jedi traitor scenario. It stripped the Jedi of their authority, granted said authority to the Clone Commander on site, and ordered the immediate arrest or execution of the Jedi traitor. Pong Krell, for example, is exactly the kind of situation it was made for. I'm actually annoyed they didn't use the Umbarra arc as a setup to introduce the Executive Orders. It would have been the perfect follow-up episode
Wonder what the Jedi would think of him if Anakin met him he would say "you would fit in Obi Wans batallion Cody and you would be bffs"
If he joint the 212th he would be the Dogma and kissing Cody's and Obi Wans ass to the point where even they would be annoyed
great video! I wish we could make seen Fordo in this!
Indeed
a vast majority of clones in the grand army of the public acted like the phase one trooper seen in this video. Clone Wars has a very inaccurate depiction of how clones generally acted throughout the war while it is true that Jedi wanted each clone to have his own personality, most clones did not want they're on level of individuality to an extent. Me personally I'm much prefer the type of clone trooper who was a perfect soldier like the onesie in this video and I think it is an aspect that does not touched upon enough in the clone Wars
Yeah in the end all the clones we see in the 2008 show account for only a small fraction of the entire clone army, more than enough room for most clones to be like in 2003
I love how Buzzkill was so confused at how Grievous was nerfed
2008 Clones: W- wait.. you had a choice? And you just slaughtered them?
2003 Clones: Yup, orders are orders 🤷♂️
Disney and Legends Canon is really a stark contrast and you succesfuly illustraited this beautifully.
Both 2003 and 2008 Clone Wars predate the Disney takeover.
Technically CLONE WARS 2008 wasn't Disney at all
@@Toto-TK88 I know, It was Cartoon Network first, I remember back in my childhood.
I feel like the og bf2 clone narrator should show up too he might have some different options on everything aswell.
One like cannot begin to express how much I enjoyed this. Extremely well done :)
Perfect way to explain the difference between 03 and 08 clones
If Anakin met him
Anakin: your a bigger buzzkill than Obi Wan you would fit right in with his Battalion
I loved the 2003 clones sooo MUCH
