I drove around with a shudder on 2011 Chevy Traverse for about 8 months. First the shop said it needed a tune up, plus I needed a power steering pump. That was $4,400! The car ran almost like new except the shudder was still there! At that moment I knew it was a torque converter. Took it to a transmission shop and they confirmed it. They used Shudder Fix, and said I will know in 50 miles or not if it works. It did make the shudder much less noticeable but it was still there. The shop told me I would need to replace the whole transmission. They won't install a new torque converter on an older transmission. Wanted $4800. I chose to buy the Torque Converter. Remanufactured Converter Cost me $293, and a New Torque Converter Shaft seal was $7.09. Then I took it back to the shop that did the previous work for me. They charged me 9.5 hours labor, plus 7 liters of Transmission fluid, and they had to replace 2 Exhaust gaskets due to dropping the transmission down. Plus I needed an Engine Mount that was going bad. They charged me $1,464 for all of that. All in All $1764 + the $4400 I spent 2.5 months ago. $6,164 later, and the car better last me at least another 2 years! I will say the new torrque Converter runs like brand new, but it makes a slight tinty whistle sound when the car is moving. I guess a bearing inside of it is not the greatest, or it just needs to be lubricated more while I drive it around. But you can only hear the sound with radio off and windows down so I can live with it! I put over 7,000 miles on the stock converter while it was slipping before a reman one was put in. Just thought I would share my experience.
Stole my thunder, many times a spark plug, wire, coil pack ,will cause what seems like a T.C. shudder.. Bit generally this will trigger a code, misfire. So yes the Lubegard shudder fix , will many times fix. Reason all fluid may not be the same, slipperyness. not a word i know. , its called friction coefficient. I wet my valve bodies down with lubegard when i build one. Keeps the valves from sticking ,if the unit sits in the floor for a while, waiting to install.

I brought my car in for that problem. I told them what was going on and whatvi felt it was. I also asked someone i know who is a mechanic at a GMC dealer, and he said it sounds like the torque converter confirming my thoughts. When i the mechanics looked at, they told me it was just a broken engine mount. 2 weeks later, I brought it back for the same thing. Now they are replacing the transmission. When i would accelerate getting on to the highway when i was about 40mph the car would shake. It would also do at other times, and more when it was raining or very humid out.
Never thought I'd be listening to Aaron belisle for vehicle advice, but here I am! :D I think I might have Torgue converter issues. While sitting idle at a red light, I can vehicle my shaking underneath my chair, and there is a constant knocking sound every few second (I thought it was the fuel pump sloshing back and forth, but now I'm thinking it might be this instead. I also have occasional rough acceleration where I'll be accelerating, aand then it almost feels like the car slams on the brakes. The acceleration stalls, the whole weight of the vehicle shifts forward, and then it finally kicks in again
Thanks for this vedio. have an auto civic, After few minutes of start/move, Slipping happens then after not entering for gears. Then if starts again first minute or two work and over. Why this happens pls.. Thanks.
A stuck or binding servo can cause your RPM's to run higher at the same speed because the servo is not holding line pressure causing engine to run higher to produce the same pressure from the pump. Also the servo holds the band(s) in place under pressure, if binding the bands are not holding because of the reduced line pressure and again you need more rpm, n if not fixed soon, you will burn up the transmission... The servo is an easy fix in some vehicles, the transmission does not have to be removed from the vehicle...
Trans is slipping in 3rd gear. 1st and 2nd are good and have no lost in pressure so I’m not sure why it’s doing it in 3rd. No cel codes, all shift solenoids tested good and the temp sensor. Even changed the filter and fluid as a last resort. So I have to replace the TC now?

I just installed a so called Remanufactured Transmission in my wife's Honda Civic. Same problem. The Live Data shows the Shift Solenoids are activated, but the car doesn't move forward or backwards. No fault codes for the Engine and Transmission. I'm sure the Torque Converter is defective. The Transmission has a three year warranty. The Shift Cable is installed and not broken.

Another up date: talked to another mechanic and he had a very good way of describing the shutter. It about the same as running across the washboard on the sides of a freeway. That same vibrating but with a power loss. He had suggested to change out the trans fluid and possibly flush the system. And if that don't take care of it,. Most likely a Torque converter problem.
@@jerrycrafts5301 I changed the tranny fluid in my BMW in spring and also the filters. The problem with the gearbox started in september this year, i.e. shuddering at 30 - 40 mph, weird low hunming noise at idle and slippage + hickups in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear.
I would check for accurate transmission fluid level first. Drive your car until it reaches running temperature. Then engage neutral gear and then check the transmission dip stick a few times to make sure the fluid level is in the area that indicates "Hot".

I'm looking for specific sounds and what they mean. Such as a swishy-swish sound when in gear but holding at a stop light. Swishy-swish sound is louder upon initial acceleration but disappears at cruising speed, whether cruising speed is 20 mph or 60 mph. Most of the time no swishy-swish sound and the car feels great while driving. Swishy-swish sound not present while in Park or Neutral. No engine flaring. Normal feeling acceleration on freeway on ramps and out of stop lights, whether swishy-swish sound is present or not. So what causes the swishy-swish sound? When a torque converter goes bad, you will NOT only be replacing the torque converter; you’ll be replacing the entire transmission. Why? When a torque converter goes, it will blow metal fragments through the front pump and into the transmission. It’s easily $5000+ for a new transmission.
What's happening when in the mornings, after maneuvering to exit from a garage, using reverse an D positions very normal, but in the road gear doesn't shift around 4 minutes, after that the car runs normal. Sometimes even the engine revs but traction is gone for a few seconds during those 4 minutes. Please help, before I go to the mechanics, just for information.
It cost quite a bit to replace a torque converter. And I understand why. But why don’t the manufacturers design a better way to change the torque converter in an automatic trans.? Maybe they could design a better way of transferring power from the engine to the transmission. Getting rid of the one that holds 8 to 12 quarts of freshly refined crude oil. Why doesn’t the government say anything about the use of these large amounts of chemical fluids that an auto holds? On the lighter side, did anyone else think that our host sounded like a robot?
