What a legacy! I had the privilege to go to one of those summer camps that Pete spent time at in the mid to late 1950’s. For three years, he spent 10 days a year with us, teaching us, singing with us, inspiring us. He was my mentor; I play the guitar because of him. The energy and enthusiasm Pete brought with him and mobilized in us stays with me. Happy Trails, Pete, until we meet again.
It's 1942. We've just come from a union meeting in Kalamazoo Michigan. I'm 3. Pete was singing and inspiring the "troops". After, everyone came to our house. I was put to bed. Pete commenced singing with the group in our living room. I climbed out of my crib& hung out at the banister. Pete told me to come on down. He put me on his lap, commenced singing & utterly changed my life forever. I've been singing ever since. I formed a group in 1974 of families in Oakland, ca and we sang rounds, shanties, folk songs from everywhere. No song sheets. Eventually we added a group in Berkeley and then one in San Francisco. We will be on Zoom until the Pandemic is no longer a threat. Thanks, Pete. I will forever be in your debt. Hopefully, I'll work it off with songs.
I was waiting for a subway at Lincoln center after seeing a concert. A geezer ambles in carrying a banjo and a guitar. He was yodeling. I recognized him immediately as Pete Seeger. When we got on the train a young Hispanic man got up and gave Pete his seat. He recognized him too. Pete, you will be missed.
@George Turner my matey i believe u 110% but i was intrigued why the other guy seemed to accuse u of telling porkies which i thought was, a) unfair as he had no basis to accuse u and, b) ur story was and is totally plausible to randomly meet and to recognise as did the other guy the leg end that was Pete Seegar. @@simonmcgrath4112 The banjo and guitar helped me recognise him. And his voice would have been hard to miss. I found him taking the subway home from a gig to be the most Pete Seeger ever.
Met Mr. Seeger when he came to visit and perform at his former boarding school-Avon Old Farms. The most inspirational person I have EVER met....I literally had goosebumps from hearing him talk and talking with him. A true inspiration. For the 6 people who clicked "dislike" on this-Pete loves you anyway.
What an incredible video! Amazing, truly AMAZING!!! +The Glastonbury Ferryman - I laugh every time I see this, and realize what a crock of shit that is Martin Lewis. He didn't "produce" the 70th anniversary (Happy Birthday John) concert, I brought him to be the emcee, and at the last minute he took co-producer credit. You'll see "Produced by Thom Wolke & Martin Lewis" on an actual poster, instead of the editing you see on the poster in this video. By the way, he also stole without permission, video footage of the concert without properly crediting the videographer, Sandi B. And the funniest part is how he childishly blurred me out in the video as we all sang the finale. Check it out from 1:14 to 1:18. Martin makes it sound like he got Pete Seeger to the concert. That was all me, with the help of old, dear Hudson Valley friends like DE and TJ. This, along with the fact that I actually had the Quarrymen sit in for a song with Pete the very first time I brought them to America in 1998. They performed together at the 150th anniversary of Dain's Lumber in Peekskill, NY. You see, I was the Quarrymen's defacto U.S. manager/handler/booking agent/fixer for 12 years, culminating with a tour celebrating John Lennon's 70th birthday. The Quarrymen decided to retire from touring in the U.S. after this trip because it wasn't get any better than the final tour, and they wanted to go out on top. The thing I find sadder than Martin Lewis, is the supposedly wonderful Amnesty International. I never even got so much as a thank you from them after sending a sizable check of the proceeds from that night. Maybe they were mad because Martin had promised them a lot more. But the amount was probably a month's pay for the Director, so you'd think I'd at least get a form letter. C'est la Vie for them. Lastly, I know for a fact how unhappy the Seeger family was during the making of the "Forever Young" video. I tried to warn them, but Martin initially charmed his way, then caused untold grief during the filming. You can find me online as the manager for Guy Davis on his website, where you can email me if you have any questions. I have a raft of proof for everything I state here.
May our elders continue to share wisdom. I sure become inspired by Pete because he always wanted everyone to be included. I watched some of the UA-cam 90th birthday and seeing so many honoring Pete and how the audience responds. Let's go out there and make a difference. He makes hope contagious.
I have been to very few concerts in my life but I'm glad that two I did go to were Pete Seeger concerts. The first one, almost 40 years ago, also included Arlo Guthrie and was at the University of Connecticut. The second one was in Providence, Rhode Island - just hours before a hurricane hit but no one left as we all knew that this might be our last chance to see Pete Seeger. His voice was starting to go at that point but his enthusiasm was still there. Those two concerts are among the highlights of my 59 years of life.

Pete Seeger 1919-2014. Folk hero - contemporary of Woody Guthrie, mentor to Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. “Freedom is in jeopardy whenever the evil hand of power or greed is ready to snatch it away.”
don jenkins You will be surrounded by the music of Pete Seeger, Mr. Jenkins, and you will be obliged to surrender. This is not about politics or even religion. It's about history and fate.
Imagine being in your 90's and still zooming over an hour by yourself on the interstate on a Saturday night to downtown New York City to jam with your buddies. What a blessedly long run of physical health this man had, and what a blessedly long run of iconic music he graced us with.
Pete was a legend already in the 80s when I went to college in Poughkeepsie. He had a sloop on the Hudson to bring attention to the ecology of the river.
this was great, made me cry, what a great man Pete I wish I lived in your home town lol. I just started playing banjo and learning clawhammer and just tonight I watched someone showing how do play " The Pete Seeger" way and I'm planning on my first song to be "This Land Is Your Land" by Pete Seeger.
I furst hrard of Peye when he appeared on Sunday Night at the London Palladium TV show. He was so good hr appeared thr following week by public demand, thst never happened on thst show and nevrr did again.
Pete Seegar Inspired the anti-war movement and the music of many musicians and people who supported freedom, justice, and the work of amnesty international! The work of Amnesty International members in South Africa is fundamental to our development as Pete envisioned it!
Love this song, love singing with children, but I LOVE Pete Seeger, my role model and hero. Raven, "TLIYL" was actually written by Woody Guthrie, Pete's very good friend but Pete spread it far and wide. Pete is the reason so many singers and songwriters around the world write and perform the kind of music and practice activism. Yes yes yes, Pete Seeger. Go to see him whenever and while you can.

I'm an Australian, living in Vanuatu, and I've developed a sudden and overwhelming urge to be in the presence of Uncle Pete Seeger, playing his banjo. He lives in NY State? Is that right? Pete still performs, occasionally. Is that right? I know not much about America and have (obviously?) never been there. Any sane advice as to how I'd go about realising this sudden urge/dream?
Seeger doesn't tour anymore but every June he hosts the Clearwater Festival, a very Woodstock-themed festival just outside New York City. I was there in 2013. Plan your trip accordingly. Oh, and the CF has a website and Facebook page.
WhiteCamry The Clearwater Festival , is a fund raising concert to raise funds for Operation Clearwater , which Pete , Joe Kennedy, ex Gov Pataki, and The Chapin brothers formed to clean up the Hudson from her head waters all the way down to the Ocean. 30 years ago you could not swim , fish or eat the fish out of the Hudson . And Sally Webb yes he lived in NY up near Newburgh, if I remember right on a farm that his wife and Pete raised their own food and basicly lived off their land.
OK Pete, gone now, but grateful thanks from my heart, am just a guy on his pension checks, lucky I guess compared to lots of people that are struggling , still injustice is rampant and the middle class is shrinking fast, sadly we are heading to a two class social entity, the ultra rich minority and the ultra poor majority. l

Thank you so much, Pete Seeger. You're gone on ahead but in my heart you're forever young. :)

Its like the elder of our tribe! Thank you so much!
Pete Seeger 1919-2014. Folk hero - contemporary of Woody Guthrie, mentor to Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. “Freedom is in jeopardy whenever the evil hand of power or greed is ready to snatch it away.”
pete. was. my mentor. as well rip
Pete Seeger is dead. Long live Pete Seeger. The flame is NEVER extinguished !
Because he is burning in hell, the Commie puke.
You are a laugh riot old man !!!
I grew up with this mans influence and if there is a heaven he is having a ball.
don jenkins You will be surrounded by the music of Pete Seeger, Mr. Jenkins, and you will be obliged to surrender. This is not about politics or even religion. It's about history and fate.
MrWdh2
seeger makes noise not music and it is about politics!
Imagine being in your 90's and still zooming over an hour by yourself on the interstate on a Saturday night to downtown New York City to jam with your buddies. What a blessedly long run of physical health this man had, and what a blessedly long run of iconic music he graced us with.
NIce little walk through the inspiration for the Forever Young song project with Pete and the Rivertown Kids
Probably for Harris-Biden insteaad
Pete was a legend already in the 80s when I went to college in Poughkeepsie. He had a sloop on the Hudson to bring attention to the ecology of the river.
this was great, made me cry, what a great man Pete I wish I lived in your home town lol. I just started playing banjo and learning clawhammer and just tonight I watched someone showing how do play " The Pete Seeger" way and I'm planning on my first song to be "This Land Is Your Land" by Pete Seeger.
What a wonderful and sweet man.
Big Respect for this Man. Respect Sir
I loved this documentary. It's great to see Pete Seeger's joyful face at 91. So much kindness and intelligence.
Incredibly uplifting.
Pete is the man. Love you man. Peace Out and Love MMLZZZ
Just seen this. Very moving! thank you. x Wonderful man!
An inspiration to many... and long affiliated with The Friends of Clearwater. Rest in peace...
Thank goodness for Bob Dylan!
this is a great part of my life part of this story called Sal Valela 1959 this is part of my time life on my post
If ever there was an example of someone living the spiritual life, it was Pete Seeger.
Pete and my dad talked at a Clearwater event and he was an amazing guy.
Never see tge lights of another man like him😣😥😭😢
I furst hrard of Peye when he appeared on Sunday Night at the London Palladium TV show. He was so good hr appeared thr following week by public demand, thst never happened on thst show and nevrr did again.
simply inspiring !
Pete Seegar Inspired the anti-war movement and the music of many musicians and people who supported freedom, justice, and the work of amnesty international! The work of Amnesty International members in South Africa is fundamental to our development as Pete envisioned it!
Beautiful video.

I laugh every time I see this, and realize what a crock of shit that is Martin Lewis.
Beautiful.
Fabulous video!
Pete is..beyond words
this is very nice....this is on my opening page
we all should understand.....why...why....we all make mistakes ...very home has its CROSS....THANK YOU.. Mr. Dylan...I was a boy when this all happen ...I was lost
to the lord ..why was I to meet... Paul....he is a very good person worked with me at CNR...IN SO MANY WAYS, he use to buy toys for his kids.....and make them also...he saved my life ...Paul...is the person who let me hear Dylan again in 1986...now because of this computer it help me to see you Mr. Dylan again when is was a boy you when to save him from jail.....we are to understand what you did with others
Tears of joy
Sounds like we need more men like Pete Seeger.
We are singing not because we are together, we are together because we sing.
This world is beyond safeing now ..thanks
just a great great man lots of love Jim dad
If Mr. Seeger doesn't get a Nobel Peace Prize before he dies, then there is no justice in this world.
Mate the greatest this, the greatest that the legendary this etc. Boy all these people you think are just the greatest ever, Well there are probably better musicians and singers in many back streets, but with little money and no production, just because they are famous it doesnt mean they are the greatest, all really good musicians are great.
dont get to carried away with the hype.
regards Colin. UK.
+colin warner its not just about the music. Maybe you should sit still long enough and watch and listen to the video.
+colin warner you do realize people you know actually will see what you wrote? When you graduate from high school and your still have this disconnected from known reality, colleges will want more tests to check your mental status:):) Unless your a crackhead christian fundamentalists, they will draft you in the first round, LOL!
ok hope you feel better

Appreciate and learn from the best, envy and jealously are signs of immaturity, just in case your high dchool teachers have not informed you.
He still is. He ain't dead yet, m'dear.
Thak you so much!
RIP PETE SEEGER .....FOREVER YOUNG
WhiteCamry The Clearwater Festival , is a fund raising concert to raise funds for Operation Clearwater , which Pete , Joe Kennedy, ex Gov Pataki, and The Chapin brothers formed to clean up the Hudson from her head waters all the way down to the Ocean.
30 years ago you could not swim , fish or eat the fish out of the Hudson .
And Sally Webb yes he lived in NY up near Newburgh, if I remember right on a farm that his wife and Pete raised their own food and basicly lived off their land.
Is that Kenny Rogers blotted out at 1:14 - 1:18?
esse video è historico conta os primeiros tempos da carreira musical de Bob Dylan
Pete Seeger is the embodiment of staying forever young.
He should be a National Treasure!
Beautiful ♥️
something got in my eye.
great
Wonderful, what an inspiration
I think the world would be better if everyone would just light one up and listen to some folk songs
excellent.. excellent
OK Pete, gone now, but grateful thanks from my heart, am just a guy on his pension checks, lucky I guess compared to lots of people that are struggling , still injustice is rampant and the middle class is shrinking fast, sadly we are heading to a two class social entity, the ultra rich minority and the ultra poor majority.
l
nitropost Yes the middle class is sinking . Never said more eloquently than when Bob Dylan sang that the ends of Right and Wrong are closer.
very interesting!
Pete Seeger...what a wonderful man who lived a focused and compassionate live to the very end.
yeah man AMEN PETE
Thanks.
Fantástico...
RIpeace dear Pete!
1:17 Why is the face of that man covered? What is wrong with showing him?
Mi mayores respeto para este Señor me cae super bien
Are you kidding me ,i thoughtp, p .p and mary wrote this song but it was already ten years old. They presented it like it was their concept.
~ You're never too old to change the world.
Poor title. Mis-labeled. This is the story behind Pete Seeger's recording of Forever Young.
How long is forever?
I CAN HARDLY GET MY FEELINGS OUT ON THE PASSING OF THE GREAT PETE SEEGER. I AM ALMOST 49 YRS. YOUNG AND I GREW UP LISTENING 2 THAT GREAT OLE PETE, AND ALTHOUGH MY GREATEST WISH WAS 2 MEET PETE, I NEVER DID. BUT HE WAS A BIG PART OF OUR FAMILY, AND A GREAT INSPIRATION 2 MY ENTIRE LIFE. I LOVE U SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH PETE AND ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL UR CONTRIBUTIONS 2 THIS ENTIRE WORLD. I WILL MEET U SOON SINCE I'M DYING FROM THE RARE AGRESSIVE FORM OF MS THAT ONLY 1% OF THE WORLDS POPULATION THAT HAS MS HAS AND ITS THE ONLY FORM OF MS THATS A KILLER. I'M NOT AFRAID OF DYING, PLUS AFTER SEEING GOD AND JESUS, THEN MY PARENTS THE NEXT PERSON I WANNA SEE IS MY BELOV-ED PETE, SO TILL WE MEET PETE, ENJOY PEACE AT LAST.

Thom Wolke. His comment is above. 😟
