Rest in peace Pete you spent your entire life from the 1940s to 2012 fighting for justice and equality! Your belief in the power of music to change the world will always inspire me if I can accomplish a fraction of what you accomplished in your life I would be happy you will always be alive in my heart and in every person that you inspired

About 20 years ago on the Hudson river in NY, I took a 4th grade field trip on a boat ride. Me and my classmates, about 20 of us. We ended up getting stuck on a sandbar and we needed to get plucked off this sail boat by the coastguard. So they decided the best way to keep 20, 8 year olds entertained, while we waited, was to play us some songs on a guitar. We all ended up piling into the cabin and listened to some guy play his guitar. Well that boat was the 'Clearwater' and i didn't appreciate it then, but i found out later that that guy playing his guitar was Pete Seeger.
I still remember being bored lol, and thinking the songs he was playing sucked, I'd like to relive that experience now that i have a little more taste, but i'll never forget my dads reaction, in the car ride home. After i told him someone played us music, his jaw dropped and he just started laughing and said "that 'guy' playing stupid songs was Pete Seeger". I had no idea who he was lol, and it took a few more years for me to appreciate the experience he gave me but I'll certainly never forget it, thanks Pete R.I.P.

Dylan Thibault Love this story Dylan. I play guitar and was playing at a nursing home in northern New York State and a nurse there said to me, "Hey, you remind me of my old neighbor." She told me about this neighbor who used to stop when she was hitching a ride to town and scold her for doing such a thing... then he'd give her a ride to town. Yes, her neighbor was Pete Seeger. I never got to see him in person, but I sing his songs. I also got a bit of a tear reading your story, thanks.

While attending a rally for Jesse Jackson, my wife noticed that Pete Seeger was scheduled to perform. As we filed in to the auditorium, my wife noticed that Seeger was just up ahead, banjo strapped on his back, walking in the front door, along with everyone else.
That alone speaks as loudly as his music or commitments.

A socialist? The MAGA cultists are the Hitler Jr’s Christian Nationalist Socialist and the bath salt wing of the failed Republican Party. There’s nothing left of the Republican Party. They jumped ship when it began to sink under #Stupid45’s dictatorship and they joined the 2 largest parties, giving both more strength.

    • @MouseGuardian
      @MouseGuardian Рік тому +15

@@BL-no7jp I see, sir. Nationalist Socialist has nothing to do with socialism other than in name. The nazi party took the left wing term socialist and the right-wing term nationalist and put them together, claiming to be a centrist party for all germans. Political historians place them as a far right authoritarian party, no more socialist than the People's Democratic Republic of (North) Korea or the Democratic Republic of Congo are democratic.

Names don’t count for sh*t. You judge people by their actions, not their words.
The Nazis were no more “socialist” than Antifa are “anti-fascist”.
It’s not Left or Right that’s the problem, it’s extremism and authoritarianism…and that can come from any ideology, whether it’s political, religious or philosophical.
Just look at the present day extremist trans/gender ideologues.
Any ideology taken to extremes becomes authoritarian. When people start thinking THEY know what’s right for everyone else, then they become the problem.

I feel the same and I feel obligated to share his music. I'm a history teacher and his music is part of my curriculum. about 8 years ago, while teaching about the Civil Rights Movement, a student came in and told me that she had discussed "We Shall Overcome" with her father. Her father knew about Pete's activism and they had a nice discussion about it and listened to some more music together.

In my own eyes, I would probably guess in most of my peers eyes as well. Even looking back I think I wasn't cute or stuff at a few different points in my life. I was a very cute baby and up until 2nd and 3rd grade where I hit a little awkward phase. I mean I wasn't but ugly, or anything but just middle of the pack, blending in and nothing about me really stood out except probably my eyelashes which I've always had and my son got from me as well. Then around 7th-8th grade my hair changed a little bit darker and just a little differnet in growing to where I could style it, I started getting taller, and I turned into something good looking in my own opinion and I would say many others as well. I try to be rather honest about looks of everyone. I said if my child was born an ugly kid I would be honest, I would still love the hell out of him or her as my life long dream was to be a father, an awesome father that I never had, but I wouldn't be a parent that said isn't he Soool handsome and he looks like chuckie lol. That's just me though and luckily my son is Cute AF

I had the amazing chance to work with Pete for a very long time and I was actually in this video. I miss him every single day. he gave some of the most inspirational talks when he saw any one of us rivertown kids out in public. Working with him, and amnesty international on various occasions will be experiences I will never forget and I will cherish until the day I die. Rest in peace to 2 people who made the most impact on me. Pete Seeger and Tery Udell who was the one who created rivertown kids, who gave me and many others the opportunities we had. Thank you. He was at the point that he couldn't sing anymore, but he led the audience in a rousing version of "So Long, It's Been Good to Know You", and the warmth and kindness that came from him was so strong that it didn't matter. We were there, and so was he, and it was awesome.

national treasure (plural national treasures) Noun
A person, place, or object that is deemed to be of value to an entire nation, usually due to its cultural significance.

Those before me, on this blog, Pete Seeger to us, will be missed....and I was only a very young lad in the 50's hearing his songs played on the radio, didn't know who he was then, but I loved his music (Well my analogy is-you can hear a bird whistle a beautiful tune-you just didn't see it or know what breed it was-but you loved the sound it made, it was still beautiful). You can understand why all those folk singers in latter years were influenced by him..Joan Baez, Peter, Paul & Mary, Judy Collins, Burl Ives (well he was around a long time too - then I loved Burl's singing too)..the list is endless....the reason they loved him...the lyrics Seeger wrote were true to himself...because he lived the life before he wrote them. Now, that, folks, IS folk singing. Vale Pete Seeger May 3, 1919 - January 27, 2014 - you WILL be missed by all of we folk music lovers. Very sad day it is.

What a beautiful version of this song-it perfectly sums up the way Pete Seeger lived his life....chopping his own firewood right to the end! For the 52 of you who clicked the "Dislike" button-don't worry, Pete will still send you good thoughts from above.

In the year 1970 I was a camper at Camp Risinig Sun (Red Hook, NY). In 1935, Pete Seeger was a camper of that Camp too. And he visited us young campers in August 1970, and made a little concert for all of the campers. It was unforgetable event for me, 16 yo boy from Yugoslavia. I had a great oportunity to see in person one of the greatest american folk. singers ever! Great singer, great man! Thank you Pete for all you've done to make the world better!

A wonderful man; a child of hope for his time. For me, simply a saint. A secular saint. Now we live in a dark time, a dark place, and his memory warms me in the cold room of our present dreaful existence.
