I use the fiskars maul to split. Way better than any mauls I’ve used before. It works great and is good exercise in winter. Split for an hour a day about 5 days a week.
Due to the unique wedge head design Both the X25 X27 are primarily used for splitting. The Fiskars x15 is used for chopping. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
Gonna buy one of these. Chopped wood for 3 hours in the woods, my hands were numb a day after. I had an old axe with a solid plastic handle. I hope it's as good as it's hyped to be
Bob you will notice easier splitting but you will still have impact shock in the handle. The X27 and X25 are the most popular ax’s on the market, I hope you enjoy it as many of us do. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
My x27 is definitely sharp. In the year that I've had it I think I've only had one or two pieces that it didn't split. Usually was an extremely knotty piece. But that's why we have chain saws. I've probably split 5 plus cords with it. Truly worth the money.

Another great one Tony ! I prefer the 25 over the 27, mainly because I like to split on a chopping block. Being tall, it is the perfect length when the round is elevated and doesn’t require the heavier and longer 27, IMHO. But I’m sure that is why they make so many different designs. I think I might grab an X-11 for wedges …..might prefer that over the 25 I normally use. Thanks for all the great info 🪓👍👏🇺🇸 Rick

Hi Tony. I bought Fiskars tongs and felling lever with the hook based on videos you made with Chris. I already had X17, and it seems like it is the same size as X25. Does X25 have heavier head or what is the difference? Thanks for previous videos as well as this one.
Jan, the X25 has a handle that’s 28” and weighs 5.5 lbs while the X17 is 23.5” and weigh 3.10 lbs. Basically it’s a matter of preference and what fits you better. Glad you enjoyed both videos. Appreciate you watching, commenting and supporting my channel. 👍TCT

Hey cool dude. I think you'll find that the black Fiskars axes (or A-series) are identical to orange-handled X-series models in length, head size, and design, but the differences are a black coating on the head , and lack of rubber orange over-mold handle which is the vibration reduction. A little cheaper therefore for the black axe. Keep up the good work old fella! 🇬🇧
Laurence, it seems you know the Fiskars numbering system. Internally At Fiskars the Black handle was called the A series but when you go to the store you only have a part number 375841-1001 and referred to as super split. The Orange and black was referred to as the X series as well X27 and is a two piece handle but the reality is it’s a one piece handle with two colors. You’re right there is a slightly different texture on both handles. Appreciate you watching and commenting. TCT
Hi all amd greetings from Australia. have had a ln X7 hatchet for many years. time for a moderate upgrade to make things easier. I've been interested in an X24M which is a medium sized splitter at 60cm long but I've come across a beautiful looking model on Amazon. it has no number but its described as a 28inch handle. it seems its designed for chopping but I think with the long handle it will also split well compared to the x7. im not intending to split large logs with it. can anyone confirm this Amazon model is comparable to an X25? and if the blade on it is wedge style? thank you in advance

Tony, glad you enjoyed the video. I may have to do a maintenance video in the future. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
Great tools. I love the x27. I thinking buying smaller one for taking with me in the woods.
Dana, you’ll find having either of the smaller ax or hatchet very handy and extreamly useful.

Terry that’s the idea, one tool that will last a lifetime.

I use the fiskars maul to split. Way better than any mauls I’ve used before. It works great and is good exercise in winter. Split for an hour a day about 5 days a week.
Phillip I get worn out after 15 minutes. You must be in good shape keeping that exercise routine!

Would you use the X27 and X25 for felling or splitting.

@@TonysCoolTools Thank you for the video!

My x27 is definitely sharp. In the year that I've had it I think I've only had one or two pieces that it didn't split. Usually was an extremely knotty piece. But that's why we have chain saws. I've probably split 5 plus cords with it. Truly worth the money.
Allan I’m glad you feel the X27 is worth more then what you paid for it.
It truly is a time saving tool in my opinion.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
i recently got the maul, x27 and hatchet and i love them!!
The X27 is Fiskars most popular ax, it will last a lifetime of splitting wood.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
another good segment Tony. I've had an X-27 for a long time and love it. i also have a X-7 and have the sappie and hookaroon based of your previous videos. i find them both very useful and back saving when picking up or moving rounds. You're still a good sales rep for Fiskars.....between you and Chris, they're going to have to start making more inventory.
Ha ha as I say I’m not trying to sell anything just inform you of what’s out there and let you make the choice based on you needs.

@@TonysCoolTools well, you're doing a great job....keep those cool tools coming.
Another great review! Love my Fiskars especially the Norden N12
Heath, you're ahead of me, I don't have any of the Norden series of Fiskars Ax's. They combine the traditional wood handle with the Fiskars unique head, wedge and grind. I definitely have to get one.
Appreciate you watching and commenting.👍TCT
A great video, Tony!
I've begun to collect some of these, but only because of their availability. I wasn't too sure about the quality, but now, I feel more confident in purchasing them and using them.
I have , what you called the small brush blade with the mystery holes. I bought it as a souped up billhook for starting and building an English style hedge.
But I've been using it for clearing out unwanted shrubs on my property. I'll research and let you know what those mystery holes are for.
Ken, I think you’ll be satisfied with the Fiskar products.

When will Gen 5 axes be available in the US/Amazon?
That'a a very good question.
Unfortunately after retiring from Fiskars I don't have any contacts that would let me know.
Thanks for watching and commenting.TCT
You answered my question. The XA 23 isnt available in the US. What a shame. Brush hook is the best way to clear vines and poison oak.
Yes sad but true, not available in the US market.
I tried to get them to bring them into the US before I retire but the product managers didn’t think it would sell
Now it can be ordered from Europe but the cost is around $100 . 👍TCT

I split a lot of wood with my X27 - very nice tool. I haven’t touched it since I got a Wolfe Ridge 35C though 😂
Wow James, you went from one extreme to the next.
But the upside is you know the best in class for both a man powered manual splitter and one of the best hydraulic splitters on the market.

Hello, can you hammer with them (axes and hatchets)??? As in steel wedges or spikes.
I have not used my X27 (largest splitting ax) to pound metal wedges. Mostly I’ve pounded plastic wedges while cutting trees.
I have used the Fiskars 6 or 8lb splitting maul with a metal wedge.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
Another great one Tony ! I prefer the 25 over the 27, mainly because I like to split on a chopping block. Being tall, it is the perfect length when the round is elevated and doesn’t require the heavier and longer 27, IMHO. But I’m sure that is why they make so many different designs. I think I might grab an X-11 for wedges …..might prefer that over the 25 I normally use. Thanks for all the great info 🪓👍👏🇺🇸 Rick
Rick I’ve heard the same reason you gave about preferring the x25 over the X27.
I’ll tell you the X11 come in really handy for a lot of things.
Happy Easter to you and your family.

What do you recommend when going car/camping?
Zachel there is no doubt the Fiskars x7 is one of the most used hatchet for camping & backpacking .
It’s lightweight and only 14” so it doesn’t take up much space.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT
👍TCT
Thanks Tony, on video those axes have the same length so I think the all black splitting is X21, isn't it?
@@101Speirs Jan it’s interesting, here in the US we didn’t sell the X21 nor was it available . It seems it’s available in the UK but non of our catalogs had it listed.
Based on the size and weight it looks like the black x17👍TCT
What kind of steel is used for the axe heads?
Ryan, that’s a real good question. In all the years I worked for Fiskars I never came across that information.

David the x7 is a small hatchet for chopping while both the x24 and x25 are designed for splitting and are approximately 28”
