🔥🙌 Can't wait to see the Pre-Sale link posted for you all! Thoren, thanks so much for supporting our mission. Pumped to get those production versions over to you soon!
I picked up my x27 2 years ago and absolutely love it. I haven't had any issues with it other than the handle not being rigid enough when you're trying to pry the wood apart after splitting it the handle bends versus pushing the wood apart. But fantastic axe (as a novice).
I agree. I’m 2 years with my x27 and it’s some of the best money I’ve ever spent. Easy to swing, and splits chords of everything I’ve thrown at it. I also love that it’s not an heirloom and with a lifetime warranty, I can be agressive with it and get the work done quickly.
Recently got a Stihl pro splitting axe. It was kinda pricey but it’s nice, hickory handle, and lifetime warranty sold me. Been super happy with it so far.
I know I said it before, but my Adler Super Splitter is awesome. It's more expensive than the x27, but cheaper than the gransfors. You can get it at around $150. It's around a 6 pound head and I haven't even gotten it close to stuck in anything yet. It just splits. Love it.
Wow, Thoren, thank you so much for this Video man! I just love that improved Fireman’s axe, to function as a wood splitting maul, it’s my favorite. I can’t wait to use it one day, soon. I hope that the manufacturer listens to your advice and ideas, such as more tapered for less stoppage, and a longer handle. I think that what’s coming is very exciting, with your input help. @@ThorenBradley Totally I hope they make a dedicated wood maul. I was considering getting the mauler and DIY a better cutting face before seeing this I'm glad I found this.
Glad to see you finally tried the Granfors Bruks axe/splitting mauls. Looking from a quality and form/function perspective. I've found them to absolutely be the best axes on the market. Now with that said they were designed mostly for European arborist and carpentry work. But they do have some models that are more geared towards the woods found in North America. The fiskars is hands down the best lower cost splitting maul with a great design for the lower weight. Great for not wearing out someone with a smaller frame while still allowing for a great splitting maul for the size.
Thanks for doing this Thoren! I've been asking about your axes in most of your videos and now I got my answer lol next is "where do you get your boots and suspenders" lmao
Just received my Gransfors Bruk, first coat of BLO was just applied can’t wait to use it. Thank you for the recommendations. Update I used my new axe this morning. It’s freaking awesome I totally understand what you ment by the reverberation. My problem is that since I’ve only been splitting for 2 weeks with the Fiskars. I’m afraid of breaking it due to over strike. Still having a problem getting the axe stuck even after oiling both axes. I’ll chalk it up to inexperience thank you again.
Maybe you should consider making an axe of your own at one point? Since there is no perfect axe on the market, why not try make one? As a partnership with one of the producers and with your online presence i think it would really take off
The Fiskars has replaced my 6# maul, and can actually be swung with one hand with straight grain logs. Still need the 8# + maul for some of the bigger, twisted stuff. I 100% agree with the handles being too short on most mauls/axes today. Mechanical advantage is a real thing.
FINALLY ANOTHER VIDEO! I need to send you some vintage axes man, I love my vintage’s for splitting more than any axe, mauls are different. I want a firemaul though that’s so sick!
I want that Fire Maul in a 35” handle. Love the weight. I have a 11 pound Meuller that is awesome at busting big rounds. I think the profile of the Fire Mail would be better.
Actually 5.2 lb if I'm not mistaken. Gränsfors Bruk don't tell you the weight of the axe head but the entire axe weighs 3.2kg and in their spare parts page they list the handle + handle guard assembly at 0.84 kg. So the axe head should be the difference between these which is 2.36kg or 5.2lb. All Gränsfors Bruks products are handmade so it wouldn't be impossible to get a bigger axehead on a custom shaft. It would probably be excessively expensive but possible.
LOVE your attitude and knowledge of axes. Subscribed! I think I'll get me one of those axes and those companies SHOULD sponsor you... you're worth every penny.
Phuck yeah! Im checking out Fire Maul! Got all the fiskars, Gransfors, Hults, and old school Craftsman mauls. This is great man...thanks for the heads up on this. I'll be buying.
Please review hand tools for moving around wood and what methods you like. I use a Fisker's bush hook to set logs and pick stuff up. Its ok, saves the wrists and some bending. As far as I'm concerned you are right on the momey with the Fiskars and the GB. I love both of them. The damn Fiskars just splits. I did pick up an Adler long splitter the other day and it splits as well as the Fiskars but doesn't hurt my hands.

Don't forget to look for good axes in garage sales. once you know what to look for you might get a great deal on a few . you may have to clean some rust maybe a new handle but could save some money (money to save up for a hydraulic splitter for when you get older.) You should do a vid going against a gas powered splitter . a small pile of logs to see the times.

ive been splitting wood since by hand since i was about 12 years old and have been using a no named maul that i think is around 8 pounds thats probly older then my dad that ive put probly 10 new handles on or more over the years. i started wrapping paracord around the the handle about 6 inches under the head and that has helped alot with overstrikes. i also have a axe that i got off ebay 2 seasons ago that i think is a snow and nealy that is close to 4 pounds but has a crazy wedge profile that i really like because i can swing it for way long without getting winded. since i got that i only really pick up the maul for hard splitting woods. and no hate when i say this i love your videos but im not sure if using oak to show how hard somthing is a good test IMO. any of the oak where i live its one of the easier splitting woods there is especially if it doesnt have any knots. u can breath on it and it will split damn near. now elm thats a different story. a 10 inch round straight piece of elm thats not even 10 inches tall with no knots will take me a few hits with a maul to get it to split its kind of insane. it splits alittle better when its frozen ive noticed but its still a nightmare to handsplit.

Did you use Husqvarna splitting maul with wooden handle? It woul fit well right in the middle of this list Cost of Fiskars but looks kinda like Gransfors ^^

@@ThorenBradley Again, that's amazing. It's better to do your good deeds in private and not share it with the world anyways. You're doing it because you enjoy doing it not because you want validation and applause from people on the internet. I really respect that about you.
Should try to review the POWERFIST 6lb Wood-Splitting Axe from princess auto
Have you tried the fiskars 6 pound maul?
It’s my favourite splitter, it’s a lot easier on the hands than the x27 and only 1 pound heavier.
Howdy Thoren. I've the 7.6lbs GB Maul n the 8.6lbs Helko Saxon (BEAST) as well the FireMaul is in transit. That's what I do, split wood. So you said you had them grind down those arrow cheeks, was the bit not bitting down? I know their making 1 just for splitting rnds. Couldn't wait. Pleasantly surprised by my new 6lbs Husqvarna w/the dropping Toe. I'd like to try that 9.4lbs Simplex Maul w/the universal parts.
I hope you'll try an adler soon! I feel great with it but I'm curious what you think about it
Love your videos keep up the good work
Thanks! I seriously appreciate that!
I see you swinging a Helko in most of your videos. Then the handle broke off like a popsicle stick. Thing is im sure you can split logs with a damn hatchet. Haha
I'm not a big guy so I bought x25 instead of x27, still feels like a beast in my hands!
What do you think of the Hoffman Blacksmithing axes.
Greath video. Keep going men aewsome
Did you use Husqvarna splitting maul with wooden handle? It woul fit well right in the middle of this list
Cost of Fiskars but looks kinda like Gransfors ^^
Fire maul needs to be longer so I can buy it asap
Would you say that the fire mail makes up for it lack of length with its satisfying girth?
Gracie Rest
How did you come to the conclusion that the fiskars wont last? How many did you break so far and how? Honestly asking you beast.
Because although the composite will likely outlast a wood handle….that’s the only one you get. So law of averages. The head on the gransfors for example, may be here on earth in useable form long after I am 😂🫡
Do you have any stihl axes/mauls? Seen a lot of good reviews at a lower price point would be curious for your opinion
