- This is the short interview of Joan Bennett that was prepared for and shown at the Dark Shadows Festival in Dallas, Texas in 1986. It was videotaped in her home in Scarsdale, New York. She was gracious enough to get into her "Dark Shadows" character, Elizabeth Collins Stoddard and announce to the world of Dark Shadows fans that indeed, Victoria Winters was the daughter of Elizabeth.

Pure class that no longer exists in Hollywood today.
Couldn't agree more.
So true.👍
She lived just north of New York City. From what I have observed, the classier actors and actresses have gotten out of Hollywood. Many of them live in the New York area.
Garbo, Crawford, Loy. From MGM to NYC.
An elegant and gracious actress. True beauty to the very end.
Vicki Kerns indeed she was ! Thank you.
Nothing fake and phony.👍
l loved Joan Bennet. Classy, beautiful, and a wonderfully trained actress.
Thank you so much for this Joan Bennett interview. I found it unexpectedly. It was a real treat. She was so lovely.
You’re welcome and thank you!
Pure class. She was perfectly cast in Dark Shadows as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard.
Few actresses even today, could be as beautiful or talented as this Lady. she takes my breath away. Scarlet street, and the Woman in the window, Classics. R.I.P Joan.
Her famous line that tortured Edward G Robinson was "Jeepers I love you Johnnie."
@@AllenMacCannell Yes true.I felt for him.
One of the finest actresses of our time. So many memorable roles and performances in all genres of film and TV.
I love Joan Bennett and Dark Shadows is my all time favorite Soap Opera, the only Soap Opera worth watching.
She was such a talented, beautiful and graceful lady.
The likes of whom we'll never see again, Kevin. No way.
She's so special✨❤️ Thank you so much for this interview!!!!
Who can forget her performance in scarlet Street, and The woman in the window. Accomplished actress on par with Joan Crawford and , Betty Davis.
Mohan S she told us they were her two favorite films. She had the portrait from Woman in the Window hanging in her home.
I love Scarlet Street & Woman in the Window! If she is in a movie, that movie is must-watch💐
What an obviously sweet, gracious, uncomplicated person. Thanks, Farley!
scronx who’s Farley? 🙂
@@Bellero You don't realize you're a movie character played by Farley Granger? I shouldn't have told you! ☹
scronx oh yes! I forgot! Thanks! Always looking over my shoulder for my Bruno! 😆
@@Bellero So your real name is Guy Haines? I see lots of people share it plus, incredibly, a James Bond movie character.
Such a lovely, classy, warm and gracious lady ! Joan was real person--nothing phony or snooty about her. Loved her in DS and in her Old Hollywood films. What an interesting career journey she had---from DISRAELI with George Arliss in 1929 to DARK SHADOWS! Great interview Thank you so much for sharing!!!!!
This is so awesome. I just found Dark shadows on Prime TV and have been catching up . I'm at season 8 already and the memories that have come back from my teenage years are overwhelming.
For Joan Bennett to reveal in this interview that Victoria Winters was really her daughter just blew me away. They were are good actors and actresses in the series.
What a wonderful lady and so beautiful. I absolutely loved watching Dark Shadows when I was young. Im Having a blast rewatching the series now.
This fabulous lady, a priceless gem of which this world could never possess...Heaven’s riches dazzle even more brightly with Gorgeous Joan Bennett gracing them. Beloved and magnificent always... rest well, beautiful angel and thank you for what you have done and what you mean to me always, darling. ❤️❤️❤️
This was great. Joan Bennett reeked class. Loved her in Father of the Bride and Father's Little Dividend and Naomi Collins was my favorite character she played on Dark Shadows.
Great actress, fine lady,we'll never forget you Joan.
Joan Bennet a True STAR♥️🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟♥️
R I P Joan !! You were so beautiful lady talented awesome too ! Youll never be forgotten !
I LOVE her. She is in my top 2. She has that wonderful voice, back when they appreciated such things and had people take elocution classes. I know my aunt won a lot of prizes for her elocution at school and it got her out of Kentucky... Joan Bennett is a great actress!!! Thanks for the add.
Who's your number 1?
@@tsxtina2919 Well she is my number one, this is a truly wonderful interview.. Presently enjoying a lot of her movies and interested to know she had three phases in her career. First as a platinum blonde, second which is my fav is the sultry brunette, third the maternal roles in the 50`s.. Utterly fantastic.... Proud to be a fellow Bennett...
@@tsxtina2919I loved Jonathan Frid, Grayson Hall, Alexandra, Lara Parker, Kathryn Lee-Scott, David Selby, of course Joan Bennett...just too many greats to list. I started watching with my mother at age 3 or 4. Still watching today at age 60. Love this show.
May all the actors and actresses that have passed away continue to rest in peace.
Those that are still alive are my best friends in my heart. No I have never met them personally.
Wonderful to see Joan Bennett again ❣
Thanks for posting. RIP Joan- you were awesome and a LADY.
Great Lady one of the essentials. RIP still watching in 2020 to take my mind to a better place from living in the time of COVID-19.
What a sweet interview with a lovely, classy lady.
I watched Dark Shadows everyday with my mom.... I had a crush on Angelique....good memories in 1966....I was 13 then
What a remarkable and warm woman.
Joan Bennett, thoroughly professional as always. It's too bad that modern day actors were not groomed like she was by the studios to be so eloquent. She had a craft unlike the actors of today.
She had the ability to tell any story with just the way she looked in the moment… without saying a single word.
I was hoping the show would have delved into Vickie's past and discovered that she was Elizabeth's illegitimate daughter...still a Collins anyway. Jason McGuire hinted to Vickie that he knew something about her that would shock her...too bad it wasn't addressed by Dan Curtis.
Great little interview of a great actress...Ms. Joan Bennett.
And remember dear fellow DS fans, we we will always have the Collins family that we can go back in time to visit on the DVDs. Just as Barnabas and Julia did, we can travel back in time to Collinwood!
Victoria's dad was the man who use to work for them that she was in love with and wanted to marry her but for some reason she married paul stoddard instead so he quit and he was replaced by bill malloy and who I think was secretly in love with her too, pay attention to mrs.johnson reaction when Burke was questioning her about Bill's day to say habits, she was not gone of any of the collins family but she was jealous of Elizabeth.
I love how she indulged us in admitting that Elizabeth Stoddard was indeed Victoria Winter’s mother.
I knew it !!!! I truly guessed this when Sam showed Vicky the painting. I thought it looked alot
like Elizabeth. Always suspected she always treated Vicky like her daughter.
@@clarapalmer9357 The painting was of another character named Betty Hanscomb who was not related to Vicki . Vicki had thought that perhaps Betty was her birth mother but she was not. Sam told Vicki that the woman in the painting, Betty had died before Vicki's birth date that she told him
I had read somewhere that Vicki might have been Elizabeth’s daughter. I’m so happy that “Elizabeth” confirmed it since it wasn’t ever confirmed on the show!
That was part of the original narrative. But when the show shifted from a standard soap opera geared toward housewives to a Gothic horror genre targeting after school kids, the producers thought that the out of wedlock theme would be too racy for such a young audience. That is when Vicky had somehow been teleported from the 18th century rather than being Liz's daughter. In the later audio sequel "Return To Collinwood", the will of the late Liz Stoddard encourages Carolyn to find her half-sister Vicky. So, even though Vicky was once again her daughter, for some reason, she had left Collinwood without telling anyone where she was going.
And the actress who played Victoria Winters, Alexandra Moltke, was awitness against her lover,Claus Von Bulow, in his trial for twice putting his wife, Sunny Von Bulow in a coma in a very famous trial. Sunny remained in a coma from 1980 until her death in 2008
Loved Joan Bennett as The Collins
Matriarch…
Beauty Class&
Elegance
Joan was a beautiful actress so sweet too great actress as well too !!
she was about 76 years old at the time of this interview but she was STILL BEAUTIFUL!
She looks awesome here.
No plastic surgery. Went natural. I respect this
Thank you so much for posting this! She is so gracious, elegant, and (as Joan would say) a MARVELOUS woman!
I agree with you on Joan here. It was probably about the last year or so she also still looked good. She was a good sport in attending the NY DS festivals, but had declined quite a bit by 1989 and '90 from 1986.
2019 and still watching
2020 and same here!
Thank god some people had the good sense to get interviews like this on record
JOAN BENNETT IS AWESOME!!!!!!! Dear Joan. Thank you.
She seemed like a genuinely kind woman who must have been a joy to work with. Lovely and a sly sense of humor.
Love her...such CLASS. YES...admission that Victoria IS Elizabeth's daughter. YEA !!!!! 🥰
What a beautiful classy lady RIP 🙏
Joan Bennet is like the sweet aunt we all yearn for. ❤️
"David, would you mind not hammering?" Just got me chuckling!
Wait.. Grandma was living in Scarsdale at that time with my cousin's Family. We used to visit every other month for years. Amazing.
Oh, she still has that voice!
Joan and her sister Constance Bennett were great stars from the Golden Era of Hollywood, as was their famous father who is well remembered for his role in Orson Welles' "Citizen Kane".
I have seen Joan Bennett in many films, i adore her and i am an adoring fan of Dark Shadows. Joan Bennett is absolutely amazing and a true lady til the end. Thank you for this interview, wonderful !
This lady was so good, She always adapted to the changes in the industry.
Wonderful vid ! I remember Joan Bennett in the early 50's movie...Father of the Bride....she was great as the mother of the bride who was a young Elizabeth Taylor....an upcoming super beautiful movie star.....Its a great movie.....that was remade a few years ago with Steve Martin..... I like the orig. much better thats also in black and white......fans of Joan might want to check this early 50's movie out..... Thanks for Vid !
I love this interview with Joan!
@Sue Taft If you are on Facebook Join the FB grp called The Original Dark Shadows Experience. Once in the group type in the group search window the character name of 'Ned Calder' and read the comments. Ned was the man that Elizabeth had her love affair with a few years before she met Paul Stoddard.
Dan Curtis hit a GRANDSLAM. A horror movie each week on television.
Each DAY
I knew it! Thanks for sharing. Miss Bennett you are the grand dame of television/ movies!
Sophisticated performance on Dark Shadows, bravo!
YES Excellent. In real life Joan Bennett was very maternal and protective of both young actresses Nancy Barrett and of Alexandra Moltke and offered them both support and advice. I love the story that when Alexandra was interviewed for the part of Victoria Winters that
Ms. Bennett was in the studio and from a far Ms. Bennett thought that Alexandra was one of her daughters come to visit her on the set. Alexandra said that she thought one of the reasons that she was hired was because of her resemblance to Joan Bennett's daughter.
Joan Bennett is my grandmother
@@30dizzy34 She is one of my favorite actress ,loved her in her" film noir'"era! Lucky you to be her grandson ❤ May she rest in peace
@@30dizzy34that is so cool. I loved your Grandma as Elizabeth
She is so cute, intelligent and a true legend. So sweet. Thanks for sharing. ❤
She was a very stylish lady awesome actress!
... Victoria Winters was my daughter....❤RIP Beautiful Joan
Wow, I loved Mrs. Bennett and loved this show growing up when it used to air on Sci Fi. My godsister and I both got hooked on this show.
Thank you for uploading this.Love Joan!
Miss Bennett did a lot MORE than just Dark Shadows!
She was great. I am too young to know any of her early work, but she was one of my favorites.
Rest in peace Miss Bennett.
Golden Age of Hollywood..When Stars were Stars. 🌟
Feb. 27 2022 - Happy 112th B-day Joan....one of my favourites. Scarlet Street and Reckless Moment are the best !
Good Night, David !
She was fantastic in Suspiria
Witch...Dario Argento director...🤗
Oh my. The Elizabeth Stoddard music at the beginning is breathtaking! True DS fans know that each character had their own musical theme played just before they enter the scene!! Barnabas had several musical themes...Scary Barnabas, Something Dangerous is About to Happen Barnabas, and Poignant Barnabas. Elizabeth's theme is full of elegance, sadness, and secrets. The musical writers and Script writers were absolute geniuses on this show! The acting was phenomenal. (And that's not just 6 year-old me's opinion...that's me at 62. It's just as good now as it was then!) ❤
How beautiful she still is! It looks like this was made a while ago, so I’ll need to google to see if she’s still with us. Her films are fantastic!
I love that she yells out to David in real life, lol!
That's her husband,David Wilde she was talking to.
@@spicey6646 ...it still reminds me of when she called out to her TV nephew, David.
Lol
Still aware of the camera. She was a genuine beauty and great actress.
and Elizabeth Stoddard stills looks as beautiful as before, no matter how old she is. and surprisingly, as beautiful as the young actresses, Nancy Barrett and Alexandra Moltke.
Was sad her character had passed on in the Night Of Dark Shadows film even though joan was alive and well. Shed live almost another 20 years from the time Elizabeth had died and wished they had done everything possible to get her in the second film. I was told by a lady whos now 90 that the show was canned due to the dark aura of The Manson murders that had gone down around that time. Unsure how true this is.
There was a reason Joan Bennett got top billing. 🌟
She was the real deal..... total class act.
Thanks for posting this Guy! ((hugs))
You're most welcome, Tory! ((Hugs back))
She is so beautiful 💛👏🌠🙏🌟✨💕💐😍🤩😊
Beauty and talent, class and manners...
I started watching Dark Shadows when Jonathan Frid came on. My childhood best friend and I would watch it at either her house or mine and we never missed an episode. Joan Bennett was one class act and such a great actress.
What a lovely, refined woman.
Great actress. Up there with the greats.
Thank you for sharing this. ♥️
You are so welcome!
fantastic woman, big fan..
Que entrevista simples, curta, mas que deixa um sentimento bom... she is so captivating!
Grato!
This is great! Joan is charming and so glamorous.
She seemed really cool. She really was a great actress. I'm really intrigued by people who are able to act and create characters and personalities. I always thought she was so beautiful on DS. Also, their plastic surgeons were so talented because before the age of injectables, people were able to retain their own faces instead of becoming monstrous looking weirdos.
I haven't watched my copy of this in several years. Nice to see Chris Nokes, I used to talk with him on the phone back in the mid 1980s. Fun video to see.
That was fun! Thank you!
i wish i could watch it from beginning to the end i missed alot of episodes when young
@Blinky +Blinky ALL of the episodes can be seen now for free on Tubi TV .com and on Plex TV .com and on Amazon Prime and most can be seen also on the IMDB site , some on Pluto TV and on the Decades Channel.
I love Joan Bennett 🙌
Loved you, as Elizabeth! Also in: Little Women (1933), The Man I Married (1940), Woman in the Window (1944), Scarlet Street (1945), The Woman on the Beach (1947), & The Reckless Moment (1949)!
I love her spooky Gothic move 'Secret Beyond the Door'
@@thejupiter2574 Thanks for reminding me! She has so many great films. Still discovering some!
Try The Scar aka Hollow Triumph and The House Across The Bay.
I hope she was fortunate enough to see some of the outtakes that made the cast even more relatable and lovable.
Such style and grace, Very classy actress.
Love her
Dear Guy Haines, aka Farley Granger, Thanks for the effort, but....Joan Bennett had a life before Dark Shadows, with wonderful films, a whole slew of them, and no attention was paid to that at all. Of course, your relationship to Dark Shadows was the main thrust behind the reason for the interview. But she was so much more and better than just that.
Yes. I’ve never seen Dark Shadows but I’ll watch any movie she starred in.
I remember being 3 or 4 years old and watching Dark Shadows with my family back in my country ( Uruguay). Of course it was dubbed into Spanish. I remember at that tender age getting annoyed at the difference lip movement of the actors speaking in English saying Spanish words that wouldn't synchronize with their lip movement...and my Dad had to explained me how was the dubbing process...I was only 3 or 4 years old and could appreciate that difference in their lip movements! Later in my life, at my 30's I moved to LA and became a dubbing actress and adr director. Coincidences, or it was written in my destiny LOL! I'm watching Dark Shadows since Season 1 thanks to Prime Video :-) I'm hooked! Blame it on Covid-19 quarantine, jajaa!
Great interview!
That was 💯 Perfect !
What a lovely woman she was.
Love her. Great video! A different world!
Brilliant
