Great cast that week! Brett and Charles reunited, and Peter Marshall now a star on the show he formerly hosted! And, of course Rod Roddy as guest announcer! Then, Kathy Griffin as one of the stars, although I'm not sure why she's on "Game Show Week", but, she's another one of my favorites!
Wow! I wish we could go back in time. Brett and Charles were the best. Match Game. I loved everyone (except Kathy Griffin) on this show. Classic. Legends.
This was a real treat to see the masters of the X's and O's in one special week of Hollywood Squares: Peter Marshall of Classic Hollywood Squares and Wink Martindale of Tic-Tac-Dough!
I...do remember seeing glimpses of this when it aired, but the episode I saw had Tom Kennedy, and I remember Rod Roddy passing away shortly after this. Awesome that Peter Marshall got to be the center square!
Hahah! I use to love watching this! Especially with Martin Mull and Caroline Rhea, they both did not appear together, because one of them had to do Sabrina Teenage Witch. & Caroline left after Whoopi did. =)
@fivebearrugs You probably saw it from the second time they did game show week. Tom Kennedy was there, along with Bob Eubanks, Monty Hall, Rose Marie, Nipsey Russell, Jaye P. Morgan and Jamie Farr, Betty White, Jo Anne Worley, and Martin Mull. The announcer for that week was Shadoe Stevens.
It's not the fact that they were old, they both had health issues. Brett was suffering from stomach and colon cancer and Charles was ill with respiratory issues. Cancer and severe respiratory issues can age you a lot. They were also both former smokers. She smoked cigarettes and he smoked a pipe.
fairybits how do you know Stephanie McCoy wasn’t “funning” us with was instead of were. 😉😊😉😊 I was an English major in college but I like to “fun” people 😱😱😱
@TVonthePorch: from things I read it was because new management/ownership felt that the famous comical give and take between Bob and Rod (and before that Bob and Johnny Olsen) took up air-time that could be used for commercials and, or, pricing games. I wish I knew the real story. A lot of the truly classic game shows have always had iconic hosts and iconic announcers. Very rarely did a game show thrive on just the wit of a host...a good announcer is crucial, in my opinion.
Tracy Lilly Well luckily, there was an episode where Tom asked Peter if he would like to retake the hosting podium, and Peter happily accepted the offer.
I would have liked to see Bob Barker on the show during this special week, it would be only fitting since the studio is called the Bob Barker Studio, he should have been on here though. :)
@TVonthePorch It IS clear, as Rod was taken off camera due to a dispute his agent had with Bob Barker in getting a raise - Barker was pissed, and since he was the EP, he took his camera time away!
If this was Saturday Night Live week, I choose Molly Shannon for the center square along with, Chevy Chase, Eddie Murphy, Sissy Spacek, Amy Poehler, Norm MacDonald, Chris Kattan, Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri.
Martin Mull should have been replaced with Dick Clark, and also, Bob Barker should have been on the show since this version of SQUARES was done at The Bob Barker Studio, would have been fitting to have Bob on this special week of shows. :)
He started to wear a toupee' in the 70s and did so for most of his career. So that was not his own hair when you saw him on Match Game. He stopped wearing them in the late 90s.
Wonderful to see Brett and Charles.
AstralPixie I agree. They had a love hate relationship, but it was fun to see them together.
Wow, Charles and Brett never changed after all those years. I love them.
great seeing Charles with Brett!
Charles & Brett were adorable!
So many wonderful treasures on here! Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you for posting the complete set of episodes of GameShowWeek! I 've always loved Hollywood squares! ♥️
H2 was awesome and this week was such a special treat, with Peter Marshall being the icing. Thankx for the upload!
Charles Nelson Reilly hosted a short-live game show in the late 1980's called 'Sweethearts'.
Great cast that week! Brett and Charles reunited, and Peter Marshall now a star on the show he formerly hosted! And, of course Rod Roddy as guest announcer! Then, Kathy Griffin as one of the stars, although I'm not sure why she's on "Game Show Week", but, she's another one of my favorites!
travis7310 Probably someone else cancelled on them?
When I was a kid, I remember Charles Nelson Reilly on a saturday morning show wearing a green face called Lidsville 😂
Wow! I wish we could go back in time. Brett and Charles were the best. Match Game. I loved everyone (except Kathy Griffin) on this show. Classic. Legends.
I adored Charles and Brett!!
Wow what year is this from. Brett and Charles. Always great together
2002
This was a real treat to see the masters of the X's and O's in one special week of Hollywood Squares: Peter Marshall of Classic Hollywood Squares and Wink Martindale of Tic-Tac-Dough!
To see Charles without his toupee is quite rare.
George Master Just watch The Ghost & Mrs.
Muir. All 50 episodes are on UA-cam. He’s
great and no toupee.
Silly Minutiae: 3:34 -Charles Nelson Reilly answered the exact same question on the final episode of "Battlestars" in 1983.
A stacked lineup of game show all-stars for these fun two Game Show Weeks!
Peter Marshall as a Square instead of the host. That is priceless
Peter was the host of the final day of that week while Tom was the center square for that one episode.
I...do remember seeing glimpses of this when it aired, but the episode I saw had Tom Kennedy, and I remember Rod Roddy passing away shortly after this. Awesome that Peter Marshall got to be the center square!
Ya know, if Bert Convy was still alive today, I can guarantee he would have been one of the squares.
I also could've said the same thing for Bill Cullen and Geoff Edwards, the two hosts of "Chain Reaction".
Loved this blast from the past! Carol Merrill and Rice a Roni. Hilarious. ❤️🥰
1:48 Peter still remembers his rules spiel after all these years. A true master of the HS. Well done Peter!
Bob Barker should be on Hollywood Squares
he also appeared on a week of shows on the John Davidson version w/ then-Barker Beauties Janice Pennington and Dian Parkinson.
This had to be towards the end of Rod’s life because it’s from when teena Marie sang the theme.
I didn't know Rod Roddy announced this! It was AWESOME seeing his face again!
I believe Rod Roddy was still voicing the microphone on "Disney's House Of Mouse" at that time this aired.
I’m convinced Tom flopped when it came to explaining the rules on purpose just so Peter could step in.
It was intentional- Peter, being the master of H2 was given free reign to explain the rules of the game. Interesting, isn't it!!!
I saw this week both when this was originally on and on GSN reruns; totally awesome, nothing else needs to be said except for totally awesome.
Is this Rod Roddy who announced The Price is Right between 1986 and 2003?
Duc Nguyen Sure is!
Yes this was Rod Roddy who announced on the price is right between 1986 and 2003.
Yes it is!
And, the legendary announcer of “Press Your Luck”.
He was a lovely man
Where's John Davidson?
An underrated host they had was Jim Lange. I think he hosted the first game show that awarded a million dollar top prize
Hahah! I use to love watching this! Especially with Martin Mull and Caroline Rhea, they both did not appear together, because one of them had to do Sabrina Teenage Witch. & Caroline left after Whoopi did. =)
I watched all the time when Whoopi was on! I loved seeing Caroline and Martin. Among others. Also, I watched Sabrina religiously too!
Gives me the chills.
Why is KG on the game show week
This is great!
Lot's of classic stars here!
If Paul Lynde was still alive during that year, he would’ve been on one of the squares.
Damn, they got to stand? No chairs? They must be bummed. Nine get to sit why not the other 3?
For those who are to young, Peter hosted HS from 1966-1980 on NBC daytime
And the Hollywood Squares version that I grew up with was the mid-80s version hosted by John Davidson :)
YIPES! Charles Nelson Reilly and Brett Somers look so old.
well they was..
It's not the fact that they were old, they both had health issues. Brett was suffering from stomach and colon cancer and Charles was ill with respiratory issues. Cancer and severe respiratory issues can age you a lot. They were also both former smokers. She smoked cigarettes and he smoked a pipe.
Were,not was. :)
@@AlfredHawthornBennyHill Brett had that later on actually. This was 02.
fairybits how do you know Stephanie McCoy wasn’t “funning” us with was instead of were. 😉😊😉😊 I was an English major in college but I like to “fun” people 😱😱😱
Actually he did make an appearance on the episode where Peter and Tom changed places.
Peter Marshall was the best host they ever had he was awesome
Great lineup, especially Brett & Charles, except Kathy.
I know right.
Why the heck would rod roddy announce Hollywood squares?
Airdate: Week of December 9-13, 2002

Peter Marshall is STILL the master!
Tracy Lilly Well luckily, there was an episode where Tom asked Peter if he would like to retake the hosting podium, and Peter happily accepted the offer.
Yeah, so is Wink Martindale!
I would have liked to see Bob Barker on the show during this special week, it would be only fitting since the studio is called the Bob Barker Studio, he should have been on here though. :)
Kevin Rose he was too boring
Thanks for sharing this video, was this the last public appearance of Jim Lange (just wondering)?
@TVonthePorch It IS clear, as Rod was taken off camera due to a dispute his agent had with Bob Barker in getting a raise - Barker was pissed, and since he was the EP, he took his camera time away!
What CBS 2 logo is in the video I saw the logo when they showed the prize for the secret square
I believe that's the ID of either WCBS, New York or KDKA, Pittsburgh.
@soulstunner Yep,it was called The $1,000,000 Chance Of A Lifetime.It was a great game concept,too.
I couldn't think of anyone better to occupy the center square for this week of HS...for all the obvious reasons.
If this was Sha Na Na Week, Jon 'Bowzer' Bauman is this weeks center square.
Peter, how does it feel to be on the "other side of the coin"?
4:21 "oh don't do that!!"
I wished they could have brought on John Davidson.
@danbarker39
He died in 1999.
I'm actually surprised Charles went bald. He had a lot of hair for quite a long time!
He started to wear a toupee' in the 70s and did so for most of his career. So that was not his own hair when you saw him on Match Game. He stopped wearing them in the late 90s.
Actually he was already bald. During the 70s on Match Game he wore a toupee. He abandoned the toupee in the 90s.
Sharkie626 lol
Look at some episodes of What's My Line. He was already losing his hair in the 60s.
How old is Brett and Charles they look old
Brett sommers was canadian
What year was this?
2002
Was Peter Marshall seriously 109?!? He looks like he’s about 85 years old.
@soulstunner He (Lange) hosted "$1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime" for two seasons.
@xXBlackTeddyBearXx But, of course! After all, it IS the San Fransisco treat! :D
Announcer from TPIR
December 2002
1:47>>Tom Bergeron....BOW DOWN TO DA MASTER!!!
Netstryke And Peter picks it up without fail!
@guy2008rules He died just shortly after this aired.
John W Landry awe, sad
God I love Rice a Roni... Best prize EVER!
@gameshowluvr86 A remake of 'Square Biz', one of Teena Marie's big hits.
Peter Marshall doesn't age and looks great as well.
Here for Kathy!
Only problem was having Kathy Griffin. I can't stand her!
peter marshall hosted the squares for years!!!
@1:41-@2:06...lol!
💜💙💚💛🧡❤
4:22 aah don't do that!
Yes, a rather large drawer full of toupees.
trying this hard.
they really couldn't find anyone else? They had to get that horrible Kathy Griffin?
She is great
She wasn’t that horrible BACK THEN, honestly.
kathy griffin? 👎 cnr and brett 👍
Kathy Griffin 👍
Horrible, embarrassing
what year was this?
