Match Game was and still is, one of my favorite game shows,,, lol I miss the entire cast,, Richard Dawson,, Charles,, Brett,, and good old Betty White. And let's not forget Gene Rayburn,,, 😎😎😎
Match Game in the 1970s was the best. I was a teen and had the opportunity to go to Television City many times and watch the tapings. Most of the time the shows were taped on Saturday and Sunday. Gene would come to LA from his home on Cape Cod, tape five shows (six when Match Game PM was on the air) on Saturday and Sunday and then go back home. Fun times.
Match Game is one of my favorite game shows from yesteryear lol, seriously it was...and I still peek in occasionally at old episodes on that game show cable network when I have time.
You're welcome, thank you...big Match Game fan here (i.e., Gene Rayburn's version which now airs in reruns on the Game Show Network which I watch occasionallhy).
This interview is truly invaluable. I stumbled across it, and it was incredibly refreshing to watch. How do you express to someone you've never met how much joy they brought to your life, especially when I wasn't even around during the show's heyday as the top-rated network daytime program? Fifty years later, thanks to reruns, the talent and charisma of these personalities still resonate with audiences, particularly older ones. Thank you, Gene, for being an icon of game show hosting. To Johnny Olson, the panelists, and the producers of Match Game '7x, your contributions have left an indelible mark, and you've secured your legacy through your involvement with this game show. Thanks for the memories!
Gene Rayburn, Brett Somers, Charles Nelson Reilly, Betty White and Fannie Flagg were my favorites. Richard Dawson I could take or leave, I never was a fan of his (he just rubbed me the wrong way). EDIT: And Nipsey Russell. How could I forget Nipsey Russell? I loved his poetry! (just so you know, just because I don't mention certain panelists doesn't mean I don't like them, they just weren't my favorites)
Most of the episodes can be found on UA-cam. I'm amazed by the video quality - color, resolution - that existed in the early-to-late '70s. It's like watching a time capsule and serves as a nostalgic recollection of the culture and personalities of that era. On many of the questions - when playing along with the celebrities and contestants - one needs to transform yourself into the historical context of that era. Most of the questions / matches are of course still relevant insofar as contemporary diction and vernacular.
Betty White was So sharp.. and so fast. No one delivered a line quite like Betty - a treasure! The chemistry between Brett and CNR - who was a genius in his own right.. was just the pinnacle of fun.. and a great way to escape for an afternoon. This show was what a game show should be!
Betty White was sitting in her own spot for Gameshow Marathon while Kathy Griffin, Bruce Vilanch and Adam Carolla occupied the Brett, Charles and Richard spots on “Match Game.”
The lower right, usually with Joyce Bulifant, Patti Deutsch (who always did the same thing when her name was called in the beginning; she'd turn and glare at the camera) or Betty, almost always had the wackiest answers. I never liked seeing Scoey Mitchell, he usually gave off an "I don't want to be here" vibe. And Richard got moody toward the end, especially when they introduced the Star Wheel so he couldn't be called on 99% of the time anymore. But it's always a fun show to watch. And let's not forget the equipment malfunctions!

Yes yes yes❤!!!
Charles Nelson Reilly's one-man play is amazing! It's on UA-cam. It is somehow both tragic and hilarious.

@@RestlessRickBuzzr shows these gems on a regular basis.Gene was an absolute clown!
The best game show ever! I still watch it on the Buzzr channel on PlutoTV.
Thank you for the upload. Appreciate it.

Too short
An excellent game show with great people.

Let’s not forget Joyce Bulifant, Mary Wickes, Fannie Flagg, Nipsey in addition to Charles, Brett & Betty !!!
And that red head lady, Patty Duetsch and Richard dawson
@@dmotta2811not to mention the one weekers like Michael Landon and Jim Backus.
Also Patty, Gene Rayburn, Patty Deuch
None of us could read how could it be scripted 😌- Betty White
That was funny of course. Betty looked so beautiful as always. I love watching Match Game reruns.
Same here, thanks to Game Show Network still televising those Gene Rayburn hosted shows. I don't watch the most recent revamp of the show.
Betty White was very special, wonderful lady, and was always sharp as a tack during the show.
The GREATEST host, these 3 EXCEPIONAL people,Richard Dawson,Fannie Flag,Joyce Belafonte, Debra Lee scott...I ABSOLUTELY LOVE WATCHING THIS ANYTIME!!
Bulifant.
Good people ❤
I love it!!!❤ The celebrities were hilarious!!!😂
Charles and Brett are my favorites. Love them.
I loved Charles but hated Brett. She was always mouthing to get air time!
@liberalliar9216 They were all enjoying themselves, and I don't think any of them were trying to overshadow each other.
@@ms.sonshine8878 Brett butted in every conversation Gene had with other stars. She was always running her mouth.
@@liberalliar9216Brett was attention hungry, along with her multi-card answers.
That's just her. She wasn't trying to grab all the attention. She was drunk most of the time as well. 😂

They pass away!
I have said this on many an occasion, but when CBS moved Match Game from the afternoon, where it was solid to the morning which was a HUGE mistake!
Betty White was sitting in her own spot for Gameshow Marathon while Kathy Griffin, Bruce Vilanch and Adam Carolla occupied the Brett, Charles and Richard spots on “Match Game.”
OMG ❤❤❤ this is gold!
I Loved Richard Dawson
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Richard did his Paul Lynde impressions a little too much on the show.
The lower tier usually had the idiots, save Richard Dawson.
Soooooo, you consider Betty White an idiot? She was usually on the lower tier.
She was one of the biggest ones along with Patti Deutsch and Fannie Flagg.@@DreamDancer82
When I hear the theme play when the show comes on,I do my Johnny Olson voice since I live alone.
@@DreamDancer82 Correct. She was sharp as a tack. IMO, she was on the same level as Richard.

Elaine Joyce!
hottie
What is up with Betty White's lip stick?
Brett really thought she was a star😅
She was on that show!
Well, she was a star who really added to the personality of the show.
@@danielh3179
Yes. She was a great foil for Charles Nelson Reilly and Richard Dawson.
Lmao. I love that Charles is holding it like a wand like from when he was HooDoo the Great
