Egad, I appreciate the advice on secondary screw ups like "85% of the time, the timing is wrong, after work..."; i.e., extraordinary attention to detail is required. And the tip about Chinese sensor not having the same form factor as OEM, with resultant perpetual E0369 code... greatly appreciated.
Daughter's M54 engine has very rough cold idle, and E0369 code appears after car warms up completely. You have tied these two symptoms together! Thanks.

    Like your video's, thanks!
Just one quick remark: I ordered a new exhaust cam sensor this week at the BMW dealer and it DOESN'T have the step the old one has. So not only the cheap 'fake' ones don't have this step you are talking about. Also the newer (updated) BMW one's don't have this step anymore.
I pulled a 12.1999 sensor from my M52tu. No symptoms I thought, just a code on the BMW scanner. Now replaced and code cleared, the car has much more power in the lower RPM range though.

    thanks for the video.
my car (BMW 1 series, N45 Engine) shows the following codes:
    P0011 intake side - timing too early - bank 1 - front/left
    P0014 exhaust side - timing too early - bank1 - back/right
no check engine light but the car runs very very rough.
fresh out of the independent workshop. the car got a new timing chain.
so i guess it's the scenario you mentioned at the end of your video.

Hey Nathan good video, thanks for the info. I noticed that you have modified the piping arrangement for your ccv. I just replaced my ccv with cold weather unit and replaced all of the hoses as well. a terribly complicated design compared to the old pvc valves you used to see stuck in the top of rocker covers. anyways I know that its going to fail again at some point and make that mayonaise mess in the engine and not vent the crankcase properly and allow the pressure to build until oil is pissing past any gasket it can find. did your ccv mode work? can you share what you did?
    thanks very much
    John

How do you change that wiring harness for that sensor? I’ve changed it twice and it runs fine for about 24 hours then throws the code and runs rough again. Only thing I can think of would be the harness.

First of all, you have to unscrew the fan, and this is one of the hardest thing, at least in my case (EU M54B25).

    • @the46guide94
      @the46guide94 3 роки тому +2

That’s only if your car has a mechanical fan. And yes they are a pain in the ass to remove because you need a special spanner wrench/ water pump holding tool that locks onto two bolts of the water pump to hold it in place from spinning while you simultaneously twist the nut for the fan *counter* clock wise. Not much room in there to fit a spanner wrench plus the wrench for the fan one i front of another.

I got a problem with my 01 530i, it has low power bellow 3k and exhaust vanos faults. I replaced solenoid, did Vanos seals, PCV and still no results. Only thing that has worked is when I blip the throttle on startup that very second engine starts it all works fine and I got tons of power from low end! Could it be faulty camshaft sensor that throws no faults?? Thanks!

Hi i recently changed my camshaft sensor and after changing got a code saying the sensor is too advanced, then right after started to get misfiring codes and fuel too rich followed by fuel mix too lean. Also to note the too advance code went away but the other codes remained along with misfiring fuel cut in cylinder 4,5,6 which caused the check engine light to come on for the first time since owning the car.. Also to note once reusing the old non-working camshaft sensor the check engine light went off and all the above codes went away with just the camshaft position sensor code present.

To me, sounds like you didn't use OEM BMW. The only one I might bend to is maybe Siemens VDO but frankly when it comes to these sensors, just spend the money.

I have a 1999 328i with a M52TU engine. I have NO engine codes and no check engine light. When its colder outside (40ish) at first startup of the day it idles up and down or stumbles and (sometimes) dies. After a restart it (usually) stays running and then after its warmed up it runs fine with no other issues. No cracks in the intake boot. I have removed and cleaned the ICV and yesterday replaced the camshaft position sensor exhaust side but no noticeable change. I saw in one of your videos you talked about this issue and the CPS fixed it. Maybe I should have changed the intake one first?

Not related to your clutch... more than likely you have two bad coils.

Yo I have had a ongoing problem for months the car goes into limp if I floor it something I've noticed it has some hesitation on low rpm last time I went into limp I scanned the car and code p0015 B camshaft Position- timing over- retarded bank 1 came up. I've seen a lot say replace the vanos solenoid but then seen that it could be the sensor which is it more likely to be?
