Thanks heaps I just did the head on my BMW and had no idea where all the washers spring plates ect went but with this video I got it bang on first time didn't even use a jig or cam lock . U da man
The flywheel locking tool seems to do nothing. I'm not certain all these online timing tool kits are the same. The kit I have allows the crankshaft to move feely when it's suppose to be locked in TDC.
good video, the tension tool for the main chain is only to take up the slack while you tighten the sprockets to make sure the timing is correct, yes its perfectly ok to use finger tight method, just make sure you have taken up all the slack, if you over tighten it the only thing it will do is put a bit too much stress on the chain guides but this will only be while you are setting up the timing, once the tension tool is removed and the actual tensioner is fitted the chain will be at the correct tension again (once it has built up oil pressure of course).
if you don have an impact, what are your suggestions of how to remove the crank pulley #22 bolt? FYI, i didn't take the whole engine block out of the car
Hello, while changing CCV(due to high oil consumption), the old hose that went from CCV to crankcase was not even connected, after installing new CCV and connecting all hoses, engine started fine and was driving good. After changing oil, engine went into limp mode, long crank, wanting to stall , check engine light. Mechanic said 3 fault codes leading to bad VANOS, and suggested to have both vanos replaced. Does that make sense? Engine is N52
I didn't see the codes when mechanic had his computed plugged in, but just went to the car to check with my phone. P0341 Camshaft position sensor "A" circuit range/performance (Bank1 or single sensor) Only shows this fault.. Maybe because it's a phone app or it's the only fault that was..
TheAkNas this can be sensor it self but only if that is the only code ,here some info:code P0341 may mean that one or more of the following has happened: Cam sensor wiring routed too close to spark plug wiring (causing interference) Poor wiring connection at cam sensor Poor wiring connection at PCM Bad cam sensor Damaged reluctor wheel
Hello. I have a question. If I just want to remove the Vanos Seals and "rattle disk" (won't mess wi the alignment and timing), do I need to buy this kit? Thank you very much!
I overheated a e46 330 CI a couple of times before the head gasket gave me the middle finger. My question to you is does the deck of the block have to be machined before installing new cylinder head.?
I rebuilt my top end, and when I go to turn my crankshaft, it turns around 20-30 degrees both ways from TDC, then stops. Is it possible I got the timing wrong and a valve is open when a piston is coming up?
Will new guide rails cause tension because I barely have any slack when I install the crank sprocket and dont have the chain tensioner tool installed as well
I got a 2003 x5 m54 3.0i v6, it was serviced every 3k miles before it sit for about 3 years, then it was drove for a couple months, and then sit for another 3 years, ive replaced the plugs, oil, oil filter, cleaned out the gas tank 2 times, put new sending unit and new fuel pump,it will run and start good, but its a lil rough? Codes be cleared ,but codes still come up 222,168,240,30,238,241,203,202,228,227,8....just not sure where to go from here, it has only 100k on it and was well taken care of,i guess im asking where do i go from here???
Hi elbow grease, can i change the guide rails for primary timing chain wothout removing the head only the timing cover and with the engine on the car? Thanks.
Liz Lugo rotate the crank and when pon will go deeoer and mark on the front cover and pulley will lined up like iI said in the video.Ive got anothet video on my channel about pulley removal
for me locking pin i had to hammer in so it was not a good fit. as long as the crank is at TDC matching line on block with pulley exactly with a mirror if still in car. if you cant get the pin in then just make sure on reassemble that it does not move (shouldn't).
Hello, i have one question.. At 5:15 - arrow on the wheel at exhaust camshaft is not at the same position as in the begginng of the video. Are you sure is that OK?
Hello friend , I live in Brazil. I have a 325i year 2001 with M54 engine, it is with the DTC P0341 (sensor camshaft - exhaust) I changed the sensor and cleared the fault, but it still appears again. What do you think it could be? I have imagined this vain or solenoid problem. Thank you
why is it the russian's seem to tune the I6 more then us Americans? i think the M52 is a perfect platform for budget builder. however most all people on UA-cam showing what they have done to M52 or similar motors are Russian.. after M50 interest in I6 engines were lost in USA it seems... i agree with Russians tho, I6 is great motor nd great platform to build off..
Too much plastic, too complicated and hard to work on, too heavy, parts are too expensive, no real power potential without forced induction. They're good reliable engines for regular driving but they're just not friendly for anyone looking for performance especially when you consider how many other engines are out there that give you a better starting point.
"too complicated and hard to work on" that Idea is the nitch that has gotten my shop rich.. people in my Area are scared to work on BMW VW nd Audi, but our shop takes them and all their problems with open arms.. especially the electrical problems, we love them.. ive owned a few M52 blocks, short, long, duel and single Vanos and i personally feel this is a good engine for Tuner level guys who wanna play around.. however the general consensus is that the M52 is a poor choice.. youll often hear "why build an M52 up when you can just get an S52 to begin with" i think if thats your first thought then your missing the point when it comes to budget and build experience. for a rich man, of course buy the best of the best.. for us not so rich guys, you can make a M52 in to an S52 with a few parts and more then half the cost..
got the E39 with M52 short block. removed stock exhaust, worst mistake could have made performance wise.. BMW took the time to get the exhaust scattering correct.. removing that removes 40% of the power and 100% of the throttle response. was unhappy with the stock plastic thermostat housing after pulling it off and on 4-5 times in effort to find slight leak that turned out to be a hair line crack in the housing.. replaced with aluminum one.. also broke Water pump pully first time i took it off not realizing it was plastic and not steel.. so yeah, i get what your saying and ive been threw it myself.. my car is a 97 or basically prehistoric at this point but it you look under hood of new cars they are all like this now.. plastic is light and weight is number one mileage and power killer.. look under the hood of a 2016 jeep commader every thing is plastic.. i mean EVERYTHING!! even the AC lines
Thanks heaps I just did the head on my BMW and had no idea where all the washers spring plates ect went but with this video I got it bang on first time didn't even use a jig or cam lock . U da man
GAZ TAZ you did this without the BMW tools? I dont have any special tools, can I do all of this without?
@@Jet3ch No, you must use the tools for correct timing
The flywheel locking tool seems to do nothing. I'm not certain all these online timing tool kits are the same. The kit I have allows the crankshaft to move feely when it's suppose to be locked in TDC.
Greetings! Could you upload a link to the special Manual ?
Do I have to buy all of these tools for timing?? Is there a different way to set attention on primary timing chain?

TheAkNas can you tell me what codes?
TheAkNas sometimes codes are triggered by other part or situation I would be careful,I will review last job on the car to double check
I didn't see the codes when mechanic had his computed plugged in, but just went to the car to check with my phone.

Airnt you suppose to set the number one piston first then the timing gear with arrow or you just SLAPP it in??????????
SOOOO you never showed the tensioner after all is on do you take the specialty tool off then put the tensioner on well what has to be done??????
I rebuilt my top end, and when I go to turn my crankshaft, it turns around 20-30 degrees both ways from TDC, then stops. Is it possible I got the timing wrong and a valve is open when a piston is coming up?
Thank you very much for the detailed video
When I rotate a crank without vanos cover, those mittle gears wanna pop out, why is that?
Will new guide rails cause tension because I barely have any slack when I install the crank sprocket and dont have the chain tensioner tool installed as well
Can somebody help with providing part number, for replacement that chain tensioner in 19:20, for engine M54B22.

hi i have a question do I have to push hard on the locking pen because it feels and looks like it doesn't want to go in
it goes easy but there was a broken piece of plastic green plug and I didn't want to fight with this
Elbow Grease how exactly do I know if the flywheel is locked? and in what way do I get the crank pully off?

Is this exactly the same for a N20 engine for a BMW 328i f30 2012-2014?
no

please look close its a mark and arrow is slightly below the cylinder head 5:39
5:15 I changed camera angle thats why is harder to see
really helpful mate, looking forward to future videos.
Thank you ,There will be many useful video like why using injector cleaners is waste of money and more about engine components.
Can it be modified the same? E30?
