I have been living with one kidney since twelve. I am now 72 yrs old and the doctor said my kidney is functioning well. I rarely buy or eat processed/packaged/frozen/can food. Most of the food are picked from the outer aisle. My husband and I go out to eat when we are on vacation, and when we are home, we very seldom eat out. I drink no soda or alcohol. When I send him to pick up one item, he sometimes comes home with soda. He cannot stop his old habit of drinking soda. Maybe one bottle a month isn't that bad but I wish he would stop completely.
I am 43, I have been taking protein shakes & pre workout for year now if not decades. I get my blood tests done regularly. I compared my results in last two years to find out that my creatine levels are high, my sugar levels are high, chleostral levels are high. I am passionate about body building but I realize that having protein shakes and pre-workout drinks (although they give you boost in strength at the gym) are not really worth it if you want to live longer. Don't get your advice from random youtube comments. Protein shakes and pre-workout typically don't contain creatine so there's no worry there. Sure, depending on what's contained in them they may be high in sugar or cholesterol but I highly doubt that's soley what caused OPs levels to go up. Creatinine levels also typically go up with an increased intake of Creatine and the more muscle mass you have, the more creatine you can store. So of course creatinine (being a waste product of creatine when metabolized) will be somewhat raised when weight training for more muscle mass. But again, creatinine isn't what's causing kidney disfunction nor is it pathological. It just let's the medical professional know something MAY be up with the kidneys.
Thank you, Dr Berg!!! I had my labs done and it shows my CALC MICROALB/CREAT RND 42H! I am lifting weights daily and other exercises so this makes me feel sooo much better. Thank God and thank you for posting this information.
Dr. Berg, I appreciate you so much. ANY questions I have had, or things I wanted a better understanding of, I have found you have video on. Thank you ❤
Thank you for the informative video ! I heard high blood pressure is one of the main reasons that creatinine is becoming higher in the blood ! Beside the other reasons you’ve mentioned !
I had it very high as I was exercising and the doctor asked me to stop training for two weeks and when we did the test again it was normal.. if I saw this before I wouldn't have worried that time. Thank you Dr Berg
Dr Berg, I like all your videos and your sharing of so much information! Thank you so much! I love your soft spoken, hallway talks! Nice low key touch, and very effective! Stay well and stay keto! Rick Herndon

God created you for humanity, I was diagnosed with prediabetic and I changed a lot of lifestyle and limited carbs and started exercising heavy then given blood tests 2 months later HbA1c is under control but I was surprised to see the Creatinine levels high and panicked until I see this video Thank you so much Doctor God bless you
My doctor said I have tok much creatinine and my kidneys aren't able to work very well. She said I have to drink 1.5 liters a day minimum to flush out my kidneys. One thing is I'm always nauseous, she told me nausea is normal for someone with high creatinine levels
1.5 litres of water isn't really much. You can workout how much you should be drinking at a minimum. If you weigh yourself in lbs then half your weight again that will the amount of water in oz to drink
I workout 3-4xs a week weight training and run about 3 miles a week. Day of my test I ran a high intense mile in like 9mins at my age of 38. I also ate a huge piece of grill chicken. My Creatinine was 1.30 and EGFR was 72! They said I had protein in my urine as well. Left the bloodwork with a CKD pamphlet!! Like wtf I’ve never had kidney issues. I think these doctors should start asking more questions to ppl that are more physically active than the normal patient 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
That's not CKD. That's normal at 72. Anything above 60 is normal. My Creatinine is 1.3 or 1.2 and I'm at 78 for EGRF. But if protein is in your urine it's a different thing. Consult more with your doctor. Sorry to hear this.
My creatinine was 1.4 and my doctor was super worried and I told him I take 5g of creatine per day and have intense workouts to build muscle and he said he has never heard of any of that causing high creatinine levels. I also had high LDL and so I wanted a fractionated cholesterol test and he said he didn’t know about that either and would not do it. I’m about to find a new doctor 😂 to bad it can’t be Dr. Berg.
I’ve had a similar experience recently, Some doctors think that higher levels of creatinine means AKI or CKD, it doesn’t those are 2 of several possibilities which also inc diet, physical activity and supplements.. You should always include a urine test to screen for protine along side a creatinine test as protine in urine is another indication of a problem. OR, don’t train, cut protine and stop supplements for 3 days before the blood test.
Thank you. My creatinine level has always tested .1 high. Doctors have never explained to me what it is . They would just tell me to lay off the protein powder and drink more water, but I've never takin protein powder in my life.
@@jocelynmosqueda5793 Thanks, but I've been keto and I've followed Berg and Fung for like 6-7 years now. I think it may just be my natural level 🤷🏾♂️.

Doctor, i keep hearing a noise in my ear It was around july - August 2020 i started hearing a weird noise like high pitch wind noise It was during lockdown and sunny day, i remember going outside and i had a cap on and wireless headphones in my ear, and i think this could be the cause, i remember my head being hot. To stop this noise, i put water in my ear during a bath, and i was scared because i could feel the water inside and then i tilted my head til all of the water came out and it worked, the noise went And then after a week or two, the noise came back. I called the doctor and he told me to take ear drop medicine. I couldn't see the doctor due to covid. I didn't take the ear drops. I was hoping it went on its own. And it did 2-3 weeks later, the noise went. With each sleep i felt the noise was decreasing. And suddenly, last week i started to exercise again. I was doing press up, squats, and sit ups and cycled on a stationery bike for 30 mins. I had the air purifier on and whilst cycling around 10 mins in i started hearing that noise again. Its like a wind noise. But i hear it with other noises. Like if i turn the kettle on ill hear it. Ive stopped wearing wireless headphones. I used the wired ones. Now for 2 weeks almost i stopped using headphones for good. I started today to use olive oil on a cotton bud and put it in my ear. If you have any way i can fix this, please help. Ive suffered from negative thoughts for so long, from trying to kill myself when i was 14 years old. Im 29 now. I hope the olive oil works.

Why is that you always have answers to my medical questions? :) . Thanks so much doc.. I'm a fan from years now.. your videos are informative and easy to understand :)
What if you have high levels of creatinine in your blood and you also have high levels in your urine? It's not that your kidneys aren't filtering properly, it's that they are filtering. But you have elevated creatinine anyway. Maybe something to do with protein intake, exercise, and muscle mass as described in the video but the difference is blood and urine are both high, rather than one or the other.
@@edwardwidjaya9730Wrong. I have a nephrologist. The best advice is to NOT take advice from people on the internet. Creatinine levels are unreliable as a means of estimating GFR (kidney function). Creatinine is a byproduct of muscle activity. And levels are influenced by athletic/physical activity, muscle mass, protein intake, and dehydration. I'm an athlete. Labs do not take this into account. A better biomarker for calculating eGFR is Cystatin C. And it's quickly becoming a better test for kidney function but many doctors still don't really use it. It is NOT influenced by the same variables as creatinine and in some circumstances is the better test when creatinine levels are not making sense, like in my case. My creatine levels are all over the place. I've even done two eGFR tests based on creatinine in the same day with two very different results. But estimating kidney function based on Cystatin C has shown a normal 90-100% result. Talk to YOUR nephrologist about it.
I did a 14 day water fast and my non-holistic doctor went bonkers at my blood creatine levels thinking my kidneys had gone on strike ... nope, just a reaction to prolonged water fasting .... no harm done!
Hello Dr Berg. I appreciate your efforts. I’ll be transparent here because I need answers. I took much Tylenol for years due to the addiction to the codeine. It’s a sad reality, this I know. I could tell I had injured them. I saw my doctor and he only pressed on my liver, asked if it hurt, I said no. And he proceeded to tell me that they administer those amount to elderly folks only not all in one shot. I left thinking I was more or less okay. A year or so went by. I worked out harder than anyone in my gym for a good long time. I recently exited the gym do to new regulations I was unwilling to abide by. So, I found you, Thomas Delauer, Dr Josh Axe, Dr Mandel. All wonderful men. So I began thinking about what I could add to my diet in order to reach peak health through vitamin and mineral intake. It’s a fairly lengthy list, so I’ll only name a few in order to keep it short. Everything is organic powder form - (kelp, Beetroot, Tumeric, pepper, cinnamon, ginger, Ashwaganda root, Alma fruit, etc) I also beg and taking Magnesuim l-threonate, high doses of vit d-3/K2 @ 10’000 IU’s of D and around 200 mcg in the K2. Plus a high dose of B-12 spray. I was drinking apple cider vinegar w/mother, probiotics, bone broth, bee pollen, and a few other things. Not everything all the time, but likely more than I should have. So I got to work 5 days ago and could not stand up without sweating and feeling flush. It was scary. That same night, I thought I’d be dead by morning, something bad had happened and I didn’t know what. I instantly quit taking everything! I started drinking water and put MYSELF on a renal diet. My kidneys hurt bad for a few days. But a gallon of clean water daily really really relieved them. Now it’s today. I’m at work. My chest hurts most now. Sometimes my right kidney a little bit. I’d like to not die at 46 with two children. I was only trying to do the right thing after being such a fool. But I failed to consider my intake can’t be the same as someone who hasn’t injured their organs with pills. I really don’t want to go back to this dr as I feel he’s just treated things so casually. Getting a new around here is hard. So, do you think water will be enough? My pee is slightly dark. And sometimes a little bubbly. But never so dark or so foamy that it comes back up in the bowl. I don’t have swollen legs feet or hands. I don’t itch. None of the usual suspects. On a side note, my NAC just arrived. But I won’t even touch it until I’m a hundred percent sure it won’t kill me. What do you suggest sir? What would you do in this situation? I’d really love to hear from you. I need help. I’m mainly concerned that NAC is a BEFORE you do all that damage and not AFTERWARDS supplement. Other than perhaps liver detoxification.
My last visit I had creatinine up 1.23 points higher than what it should be. I don't remember what the number was, but my blood test for that said it was high. I eat chicken and sometimes salmon for dinner pretty much every night. But I stopped after this, because it's got me worried. I don't think it's kidney disease or anything like that, I think it's just because of the amount of protein I had been consuming. Still, I am worried about it, because I don't need a new set of health problems. Do you know of any way to reduce this, Dr. Berg?
I am pretty sure that leaky gut and/or candida die off causes elevated creatinine, or even histamine intolerance. One of those is spiking my serum creatinine and it sure isn't any that Dr. Berg mentioned. I know that when my muscles are stiff and in a constant state of being tense, mostly in my back, that I score extremely high on creatinine. Lots of protein intake leaking from the gut only makes joints stiff for me. I have no other elevated kidney readings, no HIV, Lupus, etc. Perhaps some other undx Autoimmune condition but I'm surprised this is not being discussed more.
mine was high at the er, i think its the vegan products i have been eating that have concentrated soy in them. i switched but a year of high levels will take a while to get to normal. those concentrated soy products are so unhealthy, both billiriubin and creatine were elevated.
Have described my overuse of cooked meat and increased exercise. I could cut back on the flesh, increase the fat and take it easy on the hour of morning isometrics. More data from Dr Berg who holds up over time as speaking truth. One kidney. No budget for replacement.
Two hours before my test I did 100 burpees and a two mile run, my creatine was high at 1.4 and bun was at 26. Did I throw off the the test by working out before I got tested?? I also had about 30g of protein right after workout
"It's non-pathogenic, it's not a problem.. you might wanna just lower the amount of meat that you eat." -- I'm confused. Is it a problem or is it not? Why would I want to lower the amount if it's not a problem??
Hi Doc, my mother in law is suffering from a urine infections for nearly a year and after several antibiotics both Tablets and IV it is not getting better. She also has high creatinine, can unire infection cause creatinine to go high? I saw a few videos and no doctors mentioned about anything about Unine Infections which can go upto the kidneys. I'm from India, we have seen MDs, Nefrologists those who think it's happening due to the urine infection. I would really appreciate your take on this.
Important to note that, another reason why your levels could be high and that is simply Dehydration. Also if you take a creatine supplement it is thoroughly recommended that you increase your hydration 10 fold (drink plenty of water) so it's a catch 22 dambed if you do dambed if you don't. All these people who use a creatine supplement are probably doing more harm than good. If you really think your creatinine levels are high or low just have a blood test. How much water should you drink at a minimum amount depends on your body weight.
My nurse just called and said I have higher levels of creatinine. I do intense exercise 6 days a week, creatine supplements, high protein diet. Knowing this is nonpathogenic is helpful. My nurse doesn’t understand this and believes I should also stay away from nonsteroidals like Aleve and Ibuprofen. I’m a 33 y/o male in excellent shape.
since you've been doing a lot of videos on the gallbladder, could you do one on bile acid malabsorption? I know you've spoken about it briefly in a past video (i.e. not to take bile salts and to take calcium carbonate for it), but I would appreciate an entire video dedicated to it.
GREAT VIDEOS! QUESTION: IS KOMBUCHA GOOD TO KETO? IF SO, WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO DRINK IT, WHILE FASTING, BEFORE BED, OR IT DOESN’T MATTER??? I APPRECIATE YOUR ANSWER.
Probably doesn't matter when, should be keto friendly, but I've never had it and i think people add sugar to it, so i wouldn't know how it is to drink it plain. Now if you want probiotics, i suggest raw milk kefir, it's the best, nothing else comes close too it
@@helios4425 funny how I’d be getting my tests right after a intense workout. No wonder it was showing I had some kidney damage. Naturally the doctor never told me not to workout for a few days before getting tested. I could tell she sucked so I stopped going to her.

So in early September I took urine test and my pee was very dark yellow I remember meaning I was clearly dehydrated. My creatine level was 1.56. The doctor called and told me. I said I was dehydrated and she said that could cause it. At the time I I had way more muscle mass than I do now also.. All my other levels were completely normal.. I haven't retested however. Creatinine is A waste product but it is not toxic, you should care more about urea level in the blood, that is toxic. There are other hidden reasons that can increase the level of creatinine. Check your blood work and see if you have anemia! You need to check your MCV when you do bloodwork is it above 90 or below 90, how far away from 90? is it 99 or is it 82? Of course I don’t know but I am assuming that your MCV number is higher than 90 it’s almost close to 100 it is around maybe 96 or 97 or even 99. 91/92/93 not a big deal If it is above 90 close to 100 that is a deficiency of one or more of three substances, the first one is vitamin B12 the second one is folic acid, the third one is the amino acids. Again I am assuming that you lack Amino acids because They told you not to eat protein at all, therefore your Red blood cells are not matured as they are supposed to be and your body lacks oxygen. In order for your body to compensate, it is depending on anabolic conversion of ADP to ATP and in that case one of the waste product of such a procedure is creatinine. Please be advised I am not trying to diagnose your problem I am just giving you a hint on another cause; why your creatinine levels are high. Another hint will be; do you feel tired all the time are you suffering from fatigue, shortness of breath? Then go ahead and check your blood in the laboratory, get a blood work. If you are not eating protein at all then go ahead and get yourself essential amino acid‘s that is pill supplement. As the amino acids are the building blocks of protein when you break protein you get the admin acids. Please check with your doctor and thank you for reading
Just want to wish you all the health and happiness in your journey. Hope you can access a doctor to answer your question. Stress is never good though. Good luck with your journey. X

I've suffered with a very similar problem, nervous disorder. I found making some small lifestyle changes made a huge difference. I cut back on smoking and drinking coffee, started doing press ups at home, i couldn't do 1 without shaking like a madman, very embarrassing to say the least. After a month i can now do 40 press ups and do 4 sets to failure, 1st set being 40 and so on. Squats, same thing, but now i can do them with a barbell in the garden. I also take beta blockers which have been great for me, they help stop the temors. Everyone's different, but I'd definitely look at your lifestyle and see what small changes can be made to better your life overall. Eating carbs especially sweet potatoes makes me feel a nice full feeling in my hands don't know why, hopefully dr berg will chime in on this, hope you find a solution i understand how distressing it is and it's embarrassing to say the least, the beta blockers i take are propranolol and they help me. The small lifestyle changes was the big one, that was embarrassing too, but sometimes we have to be honest with ourselves to better ourselves, good luck, I'll keep an eye on this post mate 👍🏻

What about if you’re not eating protein almost at all, and your red blood cells count, hemoglobin is very low, therefore your oxygen intake is low, Then the body is going through anabolic “ converting ADP to ATP” using creatine from muscle breakdown and the waste product is creatinine. Could that be another reason why the creatinine is high in the blood?

My reason is NOT listed. I always have high creatinine in my blood. I don’t eat a lot of meat (basically 1meal a day besides oatmeal in the morning) not weight exercise/run, nor do drugs or a trauma victim. All things they have asked me in the ER or doctors when I show up with heart pain abs stroke like symptoms. it is always following some type of infection when my autoimmune system is working overtime against me that my creatinine, Bilirubin and Gilbert syndrome are high. Still no treatment because everyone I’ve been to is dumbfounded because it is not in their textbook. I’d anyone can connect me wit a specialist boy that would great. I’ve been suffering a long time and know this is reaching body. I’m scheduled to see a rheumatology but who knows what results that will produce.
I’ve been wanting to do research recently on high cpk levels. My question is, why were my cpk levels in the thousands at the age of 4? My legs went paralyzed, but I was obviously not working out intensely, I didn’t suffer from an injury, wasn’t taking any medication, was eating the same foods my siblings ate. I remember my doctors telling me to stay warm all the time. What might have caused the really high cpk levels and for me not being able to feel my legs or walk on them? I’m 16 right now and all good and my normal cpk level is still somewhere above average, but that seems to be my normal level.
Being not well hydrated when the blood is drawn can also cause the creatinine level to be high.

But again, creatinine isn't what's causing kidney disfunction nor is it pathological. It just let's the medical professional know something MAY be up with the kidneys.
Ayurveda and its Practioners called Vaidyas too say so.
AGREED 💯

Berg.
Doctors get too used to seeing the labs for sedentary old people. Drives me nuts having to explain basic crap like this to an expert.
I’ve had a similar experience recently,
Some doctors think that higher levels of creatinine means AKI or CKD, it doesn’t those are 2 of several possibilities which also inc diet, physical activity and supplements..

Whew. These videos walk me back from off the ledge every time.
Doctor, i keep hearing a noise in my ear
It was around july - August 2020 i started hearing a weird noise like high pitch wind noise
It was during lockdown and sunny day, i remember going outside and i had a cap on and wireless headphones in my ear, and i think this could be the cause, i remember my head being hot.
To stop this noise, i put water in my ear during a bath, and i was scared because i could feel the water inside and then i tilted my head til all of the water came out and it worked, the noise went
And then after a week or two, the noise came back.
Dang I'm sorry. Could be 5G. Gives me headaches sometimes if I'm close. 🤷 Wish I could help.

. Thanks so much doc.. I'm a fan from years now.. your videos are informative and easy to understand :)
Dr Berg your videos are incredibly informative, can you all touch base on eGFR in relation to intermittent fasting
Hi did you ever find the answer
You need to see a doctor bro..something is wrong with your kidney function if the creatinine level is high and leaks in urine
Finally. Been waiting on this.
I did a 14 day water fast and my non-holistic doctor went bonkers at my blood creatine levels thinking my kidneys had gone on strike ... nope, just a reaction to prolonged water fasting .... no harm done!
Did your creatine levels go up from water fasting?
Mike, respectfully, go a reputable hospital. Get a blood panel and then you will have a idea about what is going on in your body.
Dr. Berg, your videos have really helped improve my health tremendously.
Berg?
What about low creatinine?
How does that happen?

She also has high creatinine, can unire infection cause creatinine to go high? I saw a few videos and no doctors mentioned about anything about Unine Infections which can go upto the kidneys. my husband has high creatinine in the blood can you please tell us how to cure it?
He just did 😏
Did you ever get the information on how to cure high creatinine levels? Because like you said, he never told us in the video.
Thank you Doctor Berg, your information is always valuable..
Okay...why is Dr. Berg doing the Benjamin Button? He is looking better and better and younger and younger with each video. Nice!

How bout slightly low a little bit for creatinine and slightly high a bit for urea nitrogen ? On keto carnivore diet is ok ?
Sir i am kidney patient and i transplanted my kidney sir i have question that :due to the stress and disturbances highe the creatnin level or not ? please answer
Of course he will not answer your question because he is not a scientist.
His only reading the studies.
Not sure if Dr. Berg will answer your question but I think you are asking whether stress will raise your creatinine level. Stress adds to ruining your health on so many levels even if it doesn't raise your creatinine. I know the internet doctors can't give advice that applies just to one person. 🌱 🌿 🍃 🌵 🌴 🌳 🍀 ☘️
91/92/93 not a big deal
If it is above 90 close to 100 that is a deficiency of one or more of three substances, the first one is vitamin B12 the second one is folic acid, the third one is the amino acids.

What about if you’re not eating protein almost at all, and your red blood cells count, hemoglobin is very low, therefore your oxygen intake is low, Then the body is going through anabolic “ converting ADP to ATP” using creatine from muscle breakdown and the waste product is creatinine.
Could that be another reason why the creatinine is high in the blood?
Definitely, Kidneys ain't working properly.
What about low cpk
D I am very shocked I followed your advice and i went down 35 kilos overweight and my health became better thanks to you but because I have a severe sagging in my skin belly and full body and my body shape became very ugly what do you advise me do not want to resort to surgery I have fasted for 72 hours many times with healthy food but no use 😢
What are the symptoms ?
Thanks but like the other format better
Thank you I will lower my meat intake you explain everything so clearly. Dr Berg you really do help us😊
My reason is NOT listed.
I would like to know what your diet consists of? Most autoimmune conditions are diet related.
Hello doctor,
I'd just like to know if creatinine reduces insulin levels ?
I’ve been wanting to do research recently on high cpk levels. My question is, why were my cpk levels in the thousands at the age of 4? My legs went paralyzed, but I was obviously not working out intensely, I didn’t suffer from an injury, wasn’t taking any medication, was eating the same foods my siblings ate. I remember my doctors telling me to stay warm all the time. What might have caused the really high cpk levels and for me not being able to feel my legs or walk on them? I’m 16 right now and all good and my normal cpk level is still somewhere above average, but that seems to be my normal level.
Thanks sir
