I found literally 2 of these as a kid, I had no idea explosive hopping was a thing back then, man they really relied on that a lot to hide these.
The bomb jump was quite new at the time the game first came out. I think it first made an appearance on the original Quake via its rocket jump (Quake came out only 3 months before this game so it's unlikely they each knew about the other). You can also use the Cobra staff as well in the original (not sure if it works on this version however). Apparently Scott Branston the guy who made the music, accidentally discovered that ability. 🤣

@@zerotheero I never even forgot all the locations in all those years lol, but the remastered version had new maps and areas, so that was an issue.
One of my favourite games, it looks fantastic on the PS4! Thank you for this guide! so nice to have a mix of the PS1 and Saturn version, not played the Saturn version in years and was missing the red crabs haha. Also forgot about the weapon boost on the saturn version so was a nice nostalgia to it too. Such a shame the sequel never
came to be.

Yeah it's one of those "if you know, you KNOW" kind of things. I reckon it's a lot easier than it used to be, thanks to the updated controls and smoother framerate - but still a challenge nonetheless.
@Robert Agreed regarding the vulture ability. It's kind of a blessing and a curse. That's the reason I structured my video in the order that it is, to make things the smoothest. The dolls in Kilmaat Colony are hard, but it's ten times harder with vulture enabled.

This game is utterly amazing. Top 3 FPS of all time. I can't for the life of me understand how there aren't more FPSs in the same vein - metroidvania exploration, amazing atmosphere and music and fantastical mythos.
I absoultely agree. This game blew my mind. It's much shorter than I remembered it, but that's normal. Back in the day, the game was long and challenging, especially without 2 analogue joysticks.
I am sick or all the boomer shooter revival, and no one is making a shooter like this, with exploration, "puzzle" levels, mtroidvania style, maze like, having to stop and think what is the next step. All is frantic absurd action nowadays, zero adventure.
The weeks I played this game for the first time on the Saturn were magical, only overcome by the first Tomb Raider.
@@The-Man-On-The-Mountain the only other metroidvania shooters I know of are Metroid Prime series and System Shock, both excellent series in their own right! I'd really recommend getting Metroid Prime HD for the Switch if you have one.

The Kilmaat Colony one is fucking hair-pulling hard. I can't believe you were able to do it.
Thanks! I've seen some people try and do it once they have the flight ability, but the thing is you can't really hover in place once you have it, so you have to keep "jumping" which isn't really safe when the margin of error is so small. It is possible of course, but I recommend everyone to try doing it with the bombs and Horus Feather instead.
Comparing this to videos of the Saturn and Playstation versions.
It looks like if a Team Doll was in a different place in the Saturn and Playstation versions, often both places get used (which contributes to the increased Team Doll count). A notable example is in Set Arena, which contains the Saturn Team Doll location and the bombable wall leading to the Playstation Team Doll path.
The Kilmaat Colony Team Doll section is exclusive to the Nightdive release. In fact, I think you get two Team Dolls is because its a reference to the Saturn Caverns of Chaos Team Doll laser puzzle...which had two Team Dolls.
Thank you for doing this, I bought this game in hmv in London on my holidays on the Sega saturn when it came out, I never finished it until now on the series x all these years later, what a game.
Awesome guide mate. Thanks a lot. This game is an amazing gem. Some of the dolls were hard as fck, especially those with lasers, jeeeeesus fkg christ! lol. By the way, if you have got the horus feather and go to the Sobek temple, and collect the two symbols at the entrance directly, the game gets bugged and you can't advance in one room because the doors won't open, at least it happened to me. You restart and everything's fine again. Just a fun fact.
This game is a delicattessen. It's a shame that all the devs who are making this revival of boomer shooters only add ridiculously frantic action and lots of strobo lights and explosions instead of more adventure, puzzle-like levels, and exploration, like Lobotomy did with this game.

Nice. I had a guide published many years ago for finding all 23 on the PS1 version - that was tricky in places - no continue points in that version!
I just got the doll where I had to avoid all the laser trip beams. Nuts. Lol

The player hitbox feels a little bit too big. After some time you can handle that corresponding enemy projectiles ... but the laser shit is just fucking annoying with that crap.
I've noticed that too, keeps feeling like I'm getting by projectiles that I for sure had more than enough space from.
In my experience, the higher your FOV, the more bullshit it seems. I ultimately lowered it to 74 or whatever the default was and while it's not perfect, it's much better than playing at 100. Well the hitbox thing is better. 74 is way too low but you get used to it.

@@gobbins8366 I remember having to do that on the Sega Saturn, without checkpoints. Must have took me 50 tries. It was so infuriating. I like the way the "look what I can do" face faded in at top right as you just murdered it, too 😂😂
@@gobbins8366 do you know what that constant faint beeping noise is? It’s on the map screen and during the levels.
@@Reallife315 It means there is a radio transmitter piece in the level for you to find. Collecting all of them will grant you the good ending. See the other video on my channel detailing their locations.

The Amun Mines jump is torture to pull off because of the player hitbox size. I just keep hitting my head on the ceiling despite being right in the center.
The hitbox was always large, and I believe some tweaks are going to be made to the size of the hitboxes in an upcoming patch. That said, the collision data for how big the characters physical model is should be staying the same (don't quote me on any of this) The Amun Mines jump can be a bit 'fussy' though, yeah. There's a few finnicky ones like that throughout the game.

Is there any audio or visual cue? Anything? There's an achievement for finding all of these, so did they actually expect people to go running around every level bombing every inch of geometry? Crazy
Yup, they pretty much expected people to find them by bombing every part of the levels. Obviously in an age where achievements and trophies are such a desirable thing for many gamers, I didn't feel too bad about showing their locations for those who wanted it. Lobotomy, the original developers of PowerSlave, were notoriously crafty with their secrets and devious little Easter eggs, etc.
This game was so far ahead of its time it's absurd.

Many of them share the same locations as either their Saturn or PlayStation equivalent. Some were in new locations.

This helped a lot and near the end of it, I somehow triggered invisible & invincible (0 HP). I sure would like to know how I did that. The only way to undue it was collecting several full health containers. I have no clue if it's a cheat I stumbled on or a glitch but it saved and it was like this for any spot on the map. Was fun at first but soon after it took the fun out of it though it was neat doing runs over lava and inspecting enemies because they wouldn't move since they couldn't detect me. Anyway, thank you for sharing where to find those idol statues.
That's a weird one! If you ever find out how to replicate that bug let me know and I'll pass it along to the developers! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Here's the few details I do know. My health was far below 0, I believe damaged to far below and respawned with however much was given back still left me far below 0.
I am pretty sure it happened while getting the secret statue in Kilmaat Sanctuary but if not, it was in Set Arena just after having done that (to refill health & ammo) because that's when I noticed.
I had gotten the statue in Kilmaat Sanctuary and was on the way back down through the laser trip wires. I hit one, instant death, and maybe hitting all the rest below depleted health far below zero? I know I was surprised I didn't respawn at the checkpoint above the trip wires but instead it was the one at the camel with no hole blown in the background anymore but inventory showed I still had the statue.
Where are all the ankhs located? I only managed to find 4.

does collecting all of these unlock Death Tank like in the original?
Death Tank is not included in this release. It'd be unrealistic to try and code a 6 player multiplayer minigame when you have user accounts to consider.
That, and the original creator of it I think has it copyrighted.
Finding all the dolls is for achievement purposes only.

@@gobbins8366 I don't get your reasoning for not coding a 6 player mini game. There's plenty of 6 player local multiplayer games available. Copy right is probably the main issue. Shame they couldn't get this.
Sorry for the 2 comments anyway is it worth trying to get everything on pharaoh difficulty or would you recommend a easier difficulty any help would be appreciated and thanks for the awesome guide
No worries at all! Glad you liked the guide. I'm not sure I would recommend trying to get the dolls via a Pharoah mode run. That mode is challenging enough as it is. I'd only suggest playing through this difficulty only when you're familiar with the maps themselves and know areas you can skip past via bomb boosting. For a casual run, I typically just play on Hard. If you're just trying to get the dolls, I'd knock it down to Easy. The game isn't particularly long, so it shouldn't take too long to do a full playthrough. I can run through the whole campaign on Hard in about an hour, and I know many others have much better records than that, ha!
Thank for the reply I figured pharaoh wasn't the best for collitibles but aside from the mummies and random drops it ain't too bad. By the way do you know of other retro shooters for modern system thanks for the great work
@@danieldabini8435 I would honestly just check out anything else by Nightdive Studios. Their whole schtick is remastering old games for modern systems (like PowerSlave). They've done Doom 64, Turok 1 & 2, Blood, Shadowman, and Quake - to name a few.
do we have to make it to a camel after we collect the doll? or can we quit the map screen
You must leave via the camel to save the dolls you picked, yeah. It doesn't matter if it's the one you started the level on or the one you leave it on.
@@gobbins8366 thanks man, your guide is perfect. Loved this game as a kid but could only get past the first few levels. Used your guide to get the collectibles on normal mode and now I've just beaten Selkis on Hard mode. Might even go for Pharaoh difficulty!
Does one go back in AFTER beating the game for the last few dolls? Or am I mistaken? The character hand model in #29 makes me think you're supposed to go back...
So long as it's on the same save file, yep. You'll have to revisit some.
@@gobbins8366 alright... i had to beat the final boss three times, as I went in without full charge on the bombs. When I got the last one, the achievement popped... but I can't find Death Tanks. Is that still a thing, or no?
@@MrRikkles Death Tank is not included due to copyright, unfortunately. Technically speaking, the lead programmer of this game (and Death Tank) released it commercially, and as such, carries its own license.

Hello! I'm trying to find all the dolls without spoilers, however what I do want is a doll count for each level, that way I can avoid looking at or watching a guide and spoiling myself accidentally. If you don't mind is it okay if you can let me know? Maybe put it in your video description? Also I am curious to know if you can collect all team dolls without bomb-boosting, I was going to find all the dolls then figure it out.
There's some dolls that can't be gotten without bomb-jumping.

I find it kinda cheap you must rely on ONE particular weapon (the bomb thingy) to find the dolls though.
I bet the 3.8% of people who've got this achievement on steam have watched this or similar video.

i love this game so much, and i love the devs for bringing it to us. amazing guys at nightdive. i just wish they'd remake blood for consoles. they've remade it for pc... and the version looks so good, i really wanna play it I missed that game as a kid never played it.
That's more of an Atari thing, since the contract with Nightdive has now expired.
