PowerSlave Exhumed - Alien Trilogy Shotgun Mod
I added the shotgun from Alien Trilogy to PowerSlave Exhumed. It replaces the pistol and fires the equivalent of five pistol shots for every one, while consuming the cost of three. The mod also has varying bullet spread patterns to simulate shotgun pellets.
Why didn't I use the Doom shotgun? Because it's too obvious and overused. Besides, the Alien Trilogy shotgun is underrated and has a style that I feel fits better with PowerSlave.
This mod was built upon the foundation of an existing Doom shotgun mod for the older PowerSlave EX build created by MiniPlay. I took that mod and altered the sprites, sounds, tweaked the damage values a little, and updated the inventory and localization texts to reference it.
You can download the file from the link below:
bit.ly/3t6CQwQ
To install, simply download and extract at.kpf to your "PowerSlave Exhumed/mods" directory. If the "mods" folder does not exist, create one. This should be all you need to do, but if you want to be absolutely sure, you can set add "-file mods/at.kpf" to your Steam/GOG launch commands.
If you need any help, please ask in the comments!

10:30 This one is just insane imo. Who would ever find this shit? There's no enemies here for a stray bomb to fall in the lava and there's no reason to ever believe lava floors are bombable. Just crazy how hard this one was hidden and people still found it.
Comparing this to videos of the Saturn and Playstation versions. It looks like if a Team Doll was in a different place in the Saturn and Playstation versions, often both places get used (which contributes to the increased Team Doll count). A notable example is in Set Arena, which contains the Saturn Team Doll location and the bombable wall leading to the Playstation Team Doll path. The Kilmaat Colony Team Doll section is exclusive to the Nightdive release. In fact, I think you get two Team Dolls is because its a reference to the Saturn Caverns of Chaos Team Doll laser puzzle...which had two Team Dolls.
18:52 Excellent representation of my reaction to this area
I found literally 2 of these as a kid, I had no idea explosive hopping was a thing back then, man they really relied on that a lot to hide these.
The bomb jump was quite new at the time the game first came out. I think it first made an appearance on the original Quake via its rocket jump (Quake came out only 3 months before this game so it's unlikely they each knew about the other). You can also use the Cobra staff as well in the original (not sure if it works on this version however). Apparently Scott Branston the guy who made the music, accidentally discovered that ability. 🤣
Amazing guide. Wouldn't have a found a single one without it. These things are too deviously hidden.
Happy to have helped!
Awesome game. The bomb jumps aren’t easy but 🙏😖
The Ankh location in the Cavern of Peril is not in my version of Exhumed!!!! I guess some of the Ankh locations are different in the European PlayStation 1 version. Same thing with the Set Palace location. The ankh isn't there either!
Yes, this is for the remaster of the game. The locations for the original PS1 and Saturn versions are different from this (and each other)
Okay many thanks for your reply gobbins. It's quite difficult to find a user that has found the ankhs on the PS 1 version. But I'll plod on regardless...👍
not working for me !
Awesome guide mate. Thanks a lot. This game is an amazing gem. Some of the dolls were hard as fck, especially those with lasers, jeeeeesus fkg christ! lol. By the way, if you have got the horus feather and go to the Sobek temple, and collect the two symbols at the entrance directly, the game gets bugged and you can't advance in one room because the doors won't open, at least it happened to me. You restart and everything's fine again. Just a fun fact. This game is a delicattessen. It's a shame that all the devs who are making this revival of boomer shooters only add ridiculously frantic action and lots of strobo lights and explosions instead of more adventure, puzzle-like levels, and exploration, like Lobotomy did with this game.
Couldn't agree more mate. Glad you liked the guide!
Such a great fit; Really happy to see it in the game. I wonder how well the old 90s Terminator game's shotgun would fit in. That animation had a really sick muzzle smoke to the sprite, that alone is reason for me to try and potentially mod it in, if I have the patience to
I remember in the Saturn version there was an Ankh in the Karnak Sanctuary, in the same room where you get the Machine Gun, behind a forcefield. And in the Sunken Palace there was an Ankh if you took the right exit when escaping after getting the Beetle symbol. (Not sure if it was right or left)
Does one go back in AFTER beating the game for the last few dolls? Or am I mistaken? The character hand model in #29 makes me think you're supposed to go back...
So long as it's on the same save file, yep. You'll have to revisit some.
@@gobbins8366 alright... i had to beat the final boss three times, as I went in without full charge on the bombs. When I got the last one, the achievement popped... but I can't find Death Tanks. Is that still a thing, or no?
@@MrRikkles Death Tank is not included due to copyright, unfortunately. Technically speaking, the lead programmer of this game (and Death Tank) released it commercially, and as such, carries its own license.
@@gobbins8366 alright, then I have no real reason to hunt the dolls a second time then. Good to know. ^^
Sorry for the 2 comments anyway is it worth trying to get everything on pharaoh difficulty or would you recommend a easier difficulty any help would be appreciated and thanks for the awesome guide
No worries at all! Glad you liked the guide. I'm not sure I would recommend trying to get the dolls via a Pharoah mode run. That mode is challenging enough as it is. I'd only suggest playing through this difficulty only when you're familiar with the maps themselves and know areas you can skip past via bomb boosting. For a casual run, I typically just play on Hard. If you're just trying to get the dolls, I'd knock it down to Easy. The game isn't particularly long, so it shouldn't take too long to do a full playthrough. I can run through the whole campaign on Hard in about an hour, and I know many others have much better records than that, ha!
Thank for the reply I figured pharaoh wasn't the best for collitibles but aside from the mummies and random drops it ain't too bad. By the way do you know of other retro shooters for modern system thanks for the great work
@@danieldabini8435 I would honestly just check out anything else by Nightdive Studios. Their whole schtick is remastering old games for modern systems (like PowerSlave). They've done Doom 64, Turok 1 & 2, Blood, Shadowman, and Quake - to name a few.
Hey thanks for the guide it's been great just a quick question if you don't mind. I been playing on pharaoh difficulty while trying to get all stuff
Oi
I bet the 3.8% of people who've got this achievement on steam have watched this or similar video.
Man, before watching this I didn't even realise Exhumed didn't have a shotgun equivalent. It's a rare thing in this genre...... Also great work, the alien shotgun does fit well
Thank you! Yeah it's a jarring omission from the games arsenal. The Alien Trilogy one definitely carries the same general aesthetic and definitely fits in with the rest of the roster.
No way I'd ever find some of these on my own. Awesome guide. Thanks!
Great mod man! This makes the combat much more enjoyable
Legend thank you so much!!
Legend thank you!
Canyons of Chaos one had me struggling for atleast 15 mins
if only I knew how bad Kimaat was fuck this map
Great Guide. Thanks. One of my all time favorite games from the Sega Saturn. Waited till i got all artifacts and all ankhs to collect the dolls and the transmitter pieces.
Glad it helped!!
Thank you so much for this guide.
I find it kinda cheap you must rely on ONE particular weapon (the bomb thingy) to find the dolls though.
This game is utterly amazing. Top 3 FPS of all time. I can't for the life of me understand how there aren't more FPSs in the same vein - metroidvania exploration, amazing atmosphere and music and fantastical mythos.
I absoultely agree. This game blew my mind. It's much shorter than I remembered it, but that's normal. Back in the day, the game was long and challenging, especially without 2 analogue joysticks. I am sick or all the boomer shooter revival, and no one is making a shooter like this, with exploration, "puzzle" levels, mtroidvania style, maze like, having to stop and think what is the next step. All is frantic absurd action nowadays, zero adventure. The weeks I played this game for the first time on the Saturn were magical, only overcome by the first Tomb Raider.
@@The-Man-On-The-Mountain the only other metroidvania shooters I know of are Metroid Prime series and System Shock, both excellent series in their own right! I'd really recommend getting Metroid Prime HD for the Switch if you have one.
@@thor1829 I'd say Hexen also counts as a Metroidvania, just a really terrible one
Amazing guide. Thank you
This game was so far ahead of its time it's absurd.

Dankeschön :)
Nice video 👍👍
Thank you!
How the hell did you manage to mod this game? I understand you just made a renamed zip file but like where did you figure out how this stuff works? I cannot for the life of me understand how this works.
It was simply a case of following the same file structure. Digging around and experimenting. The Nightdive discord may be able to help further.
I chortled when Harold shows up that part is gonna be hell and thank god the checkpoints are there.
Thanks :)
Thank you! Some of these are in ridiculous locations. Blasting a hole into thin air behind the camel!? Come on!
Thank you for doing this, I bought this game in hmv in London on my holidays on the Sega saturn when it came out, I never finished it until now on the series x all these years later, what a game.
Daaaamn there’s 31????? Lol I hadn’t found any. And I’m near the end of the game. Lol
I was searching nooks and crannies in every level. Lol. Only one spot I thought I could see something but couldn’t get enough of a view.
???????
Yes.
What did you used to mod KEX Engine files?
Viewed contents of PowerslaveEx.kpf with 7zip and copied the file structure for my own mod. Kpf files are just .zip files with a different extension.
@@gobbins8366 tried with Dragon Unpacker. Works too
@@gobbins8366 I'm trying to find the script for the player's pain sound. I would like to make the antagonist talk like in the console version. After extracting all the files from the kpf file I can't find the script for the player's sound. Cant find: sounds/ppain01.wav
@@EthanWolfCat The player only has pain sounds, he doesn't react to kills like the DOS version sadly.
@@gobbins8366 For the pain, I simply modified one of pain sound and added the character's line "you son of a bitch!" to it. I also put the character's laugh when picking up a weapon for the first time.
Can't believe they never put one in.😂
Honestly, it doesn't need one
@@solblackguy agree, just surprised that they didn't do what every other fps did. But then that's not what they were going for was it.
Especially when you look at the box art where the main character has one strapped to his back. Sgt. Jonathan Sand had a shotgun on his back that he NEVER BOTHERED TO USE.
In Heket Marsh, how did you pass this green shield?
Use the Kilmaat Scepter artifact you get from defeating the Selkis boss in Selkis Burrow level.
@@gobbins8366 thank you!
Cool. Can you replace the M-60 with the pulse rifle?
Funny you say that, I did a quick test of this last night. It's not finished, but it's certainly an option... ua-cam.com/video/NtgJ49PgRpU/v-deo.html
Noice!
Thanks so much dude. This really helps me a lot :D
Nice. I had a guide published many years ago for finding all 23 on the PS1 version - that was tricky in places - no continue points in that version!
I just got the doll where I had to avoid all the laser trip beams. Nuts. Lol
do we have to make it to a camel after we collect the doll? or can we quit the map screen
You must leave via the camel to save the dolls you picked, yeah. It doesn't matter if it's the one you started the level on or the one you leave it on.
@@gobbins8366 thanks man, your guide is perfect. Loved this game as a kid but could only get past the first few levels. Used your guide to get the collectibles on normal mode and now I've just beaten Selkis on Hard mode. Might even go for Pharaoh difficulty!
