Just an FYI for anyone using Audacity on a PC and NOT a Mac, its called the "Filter Curve" and not the Equalizer!
Thanks
Thx ! I needed this
OMG You really helped me out today!!!!!!! Thanks!
You should be careful increasing in the 4Khz area like you did... it has a tendency to increase sibilance (the hissing "S" noise). I think if you go back and listen you'll hear it. Most people actually slightly reduce in the 3-5Khz (De-essing the "S"). You should increase your EQ above the 6Khz range if you want to help the high end without increasing the sibilance.
thanks was wondering about it
it seems like noise removal completely removes that hiss.
Finally! This is the tutorial I was looking for. Thanks!
Thanks for this tutorial dude. This is exactly the type of video i've been looking for.
dude thank you so much ive been stressing about making my vocals sound better
Best beginner tutorial I know of about equalisation and compression. Thanks a lot!
Thank you for a great tutorial. Still working on finding my sound .Thanks again.
Straight to the point and Very helpful. Thanks man!
Finally an audiocity tutorial with actual clear audio.
Hi, I've been watching your videos. I have to say congratz. You're trying to help beginners as best as you can, which is always good. But due to the fact that you are talking as well as teaching about recording a voice to a track, EQ, compressions and such, which is a must in all types of recordings. There is one detail that you should at least give your viewers. Which is very important to know, especially for beginners. Cause Audacity is a very good software for beginners, and for more advanced players as well (that I still use for several things) That when it comes to voice recording, no matter the quality of mic or quality of software or quantity of experience. Voice tracks, should always, ALWAYS be recorded on a MONO track, to make sure the equal vocal patterns stay equal in each ear. Which first will give much more life to your vocals, ease your mixing (cause on stereo, you can do a great mixing job and it seem to sound good, but as soon as it hits a set of speakers, the vocals will start bouncing from 1 side to the other, it will sound terrible) I think its a TRUE basic.. Teach your viewers how to turn your track in mono, which is pretty simple on Audacity, and continue your lessons...
Im not saying you dont know what you're doing, on the contrary, you do a great job in your videos, you teach well, easy to understand, and it'll help beginners a lot. Its just a point I wan't to make. You can delete this if you want! This has nothing to do with showing off and idiocies like that! I just wanted to help.. Thats All.. Good Job
You have the best tutorials ever
Veryyyy understandable 👍🔥🔥🔥👌
thanks a lot! the compression really helps
I actually liked listening to your voice sing ahaha it wasn't bad! Great video, im trying my best to fix my audio for covers but its so difficult ahbsba
I just like to saying thank for taking the time to do this.
Appreciate your valuable in-sight and in-depth information and tutorials on using the various features of Audacity. God you you to take the time and effort to break it all down and share your information, for free may I add. so all these people commenting on your vocals or song choices you use, simply don't understand the purpose of your videos is TUTORIAL. So once again thanks for all your input. Cool man.
Thank you for making this👍 I have been searching for a proper explanation of these effects but all i found were settings for specific purposes.
I like your singing dude, it's good enough for some karaoke and your own music.
Very helpful thanks man
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I wasted about 2 hours trying to find what you provided. Thanks!
I BEEN LOOKING FOR A VID LIKE THIS, BLESS YOU MAN!
+Lord Drako thank you I'm glad you enjoyed!
Looking for a better voice to use on podcast's
Great video!!
Thanks for this.
Beautiful!
Thanks, man. I am now more confident in using Audacity
Very nice video. EQ is a great tool, but it's hard to use it well. At least for me. After having watched your video, I now have some solid starting point to try to improve my recorded voice for video tutorials, instead of trying to randomly adjust frequencies for a less than optimal result ;)
A question though. You have very visible asymmetry in your voice for example at 12:42 on the 3 sec mark in the Audacity waveform window : there is a peak with much higher amplitude *below* the 0.0 mark. This is not a bad thing per se, but doesn't that reduce the effectiveness of the compressor and normalization filters ? Is there a way to reduce that asymmetry in the waveform with Audacity ? Other software have phase rotator and stuff like that for that purpose. But I don't see anything here....
This is great. Thank you. Now I just got to practice perfect pitch.....and breath......
Thanks man
Thank you for such clarity of your explanation of equalization. I use Audacity for many reasons.
Thanks for watching, glad I could help!
Perfect. Now to go practice.
Lovely singing I loved it. !! lol.
Hii !! Nice video !! THANKS A LOT !!
I have a question....
I basically use audacity for singing on karaoke tracks and making covers.
Could you briefly explain if compressor is important to me and to what extent ?? Also, my voice is bit sibiliant. I request you to upload a video on using de-esser effect in Audacity.
Thank you. :)
THANK YOU. I NEED TO ADD PLUGGINS ON REAPER TRIAL VERSION, IS IT POSSIBLE
Thanks
Very nice
Damn, I watched your previous video and I didn't hear you well, but I guess I now have। Your voice is AMAZING! You have an amazing crisp voice, although you can work on your pitch, otherwise everything was awesome
Hi, beginner here. Was paying attention to the Equalization part especially; would i increase the base if my head voice is too weak (compared to the chest voice) to help strengthen it up a bit? (Yes, i know about singing lessons, haha; in progress) Could the compression work well for this issue? Much thanks, I learned a lot!
After you add equalization, how do you make it so you can compress? I added bass boost as the equalizer then I tried highlighting it like you did but everything is grayed out.
I have a question.... I'm looking for a program or even off the computer, a way to check which sounds specifically were being produced.... but I need the number values of sounds... I figure this is running off the audio card, but I need to visually see it....do you know of anything like this? unless those spikes on the audio lines were the specific sounds? (I dont understand audio too much, if I were to transfer this audio file to another computer, would it be able to read it? if so, how?) are sounds actually just bytes/kb? or is it those strings of numbers? know of a way to monitor it?
Do we use equalisation first, or compression?
even without editing ur voice i was boppin my head to ur singing
I see that wizard 101 peaking down there ;)
Haven't been on it for 3 years now or so, in fact deleted it earlier in the month :)
dude I used to play that like 7 years ago
Yeah I still play occasionally, I've been playing since 2008!
I wish I knew about Compression sooner. Just really quick, because I got a little confused listening, in compression does the Threshold essentially act as setting a "Max Vol (Volume will not exceed)," and Noise floor a "Minimum Vol (As low as volume is allowed?)"
this song of yours reminds me one one direction singing it
Nice video! But I gotta say that the voice over in this tut video sounds a lot better compared to the audio samples in the video. Did I miss something? thanks :)
It's because he was doing nothing other than compression/equalization on the samples
Signing sounds pretty good to me
On your voiceover editing, can you remove the lows for clarity and still add bass for fullness when you’re EQ’ing?
Cut the really low stuff all the way like he did in his first edit. Maybe start below 250. Boost or cut somewhere around 500 and see if that helps. Subtle EQ moves can help you achieve this but don't be afraid of radical EQ moves either. Every voice is different so you'll have to do some trial and error. There are no rules.
Question......How do you get sound from a video that uses L-SMASH Audio Handler. U figure this one out and you are a genius.....
Best explanation of eq and compression! You're the best! Do you have a tutorial on the silent effect? Would that help me remove loud mic disturbance?
you can highlight a section of audio that is just mic noise like before you start talking or singing. so highlight open mic noise then go to effects, noise reduction, then get a sound profile, after sound profile go back and highlight entire audio track, back to noise reduction effect and apply it by hitting ok.....it should reduce noise based on the profile you took in the steps before and it should reduce it across the entire track, or whatever you have highlighted....if the effect filters too much, undo then try again and reduce the db value of the effect until your happy with result....hope this helps
i typically only use silence at the beginning and end of an audio track so as to not create unwanted transitions between total silence and all of a sudden audio
Thanks do you have a recording studio we can get together???🔐🎶✝️✝️🎶✝️☦️☦️🎶🎶✝️✡️🔯✡️✝️🎶☦️🔯✡️🎶🎶☦️☦️🔐
Liked and subbed for recording your own example. Thanks. >.
I have a lot of audio to edit it going take weeks to edit the audio and I have to spend a of my time editing audio to get it done
Help, Bad audio windows 10, i think i have narrowed it down to this, Audio Enhancements, on or off, if i watch U tube clips and stuff like that i need them on, if i play a recorded piece of audio i have recorded off the iplayer i need them off....i cant seem to find a common denominator lol.....if i set the equalization in Audacity to simulate the equalization when it is off, it still sounds horrible, question is what do these audio enhancements actually do and can i change it in audacity so i can play anything with them turned on, thats the windows default...i have read a few things about it but doesn't tell me what i want to know...Fred.
hi I did different recordings in the same room, and each recordings are with my own voice. What happens is that because they are different recordings they sound with a different sound so I was wandering how do I get to have the different recordings sound the same.
good video
learn in gujarati #audacitygujarati
Okay but are you gonna drop the full song tho
Hey! Can you tell me how to put two songs together in Audacity??
BTW: Love your singing hahaha
+Jared Valverde This is a very simple thing to do, and I don't have a specific video for this, but I suggest looking at the following video I created, you'll see how I did it. It's just a matter of dragging both files into the program.
ua-cam.com/video/z0v63_NPt9o/v-deo.html
Thanks man!!!
+Jared Valverde no problem!
Great singing lol awesome!
What is this version?
Around the world dogs are howling ! ......lmao
i don't have the blue arrows on the bottom to move up and down they don't appear
Look for "graphic eq"
What to do when voice intensity reach red zone. How to maintain it into the green zone.
You have to adjust the gain to match your vocals loudness to the point where it doesn't go on the red zone anymore. Btw the gain is found under the mute and solo buttons in audacity. Hope I could help!
2022
I have a sound track 91 db loud. I put compression on to make the loud and soft sounds even up but the over all sound track is rendered much louder than the 91db I started with!
After compression, how do I determine how much louder the track has become? Are there any gauges on Audacity to know this and most importantly, how to I volume down to exactly the 91 db, I am wanting it to be?
this dude play hearthstone
Why didn’t you play the edited singing with the instrumental...
You should be a singer bro... Your voice is nice
Thank you, glad you enjoyed!
+Tutorials with GS np
I don’t have equalization as a option help
It's called Filter Curve in the latest version of Audacity.
the equalizer for me does not show up in effects
Check filter curve

This is my favorite song of Coldplay
Love that band!
Tutorials with GS Hey I tried to plug in a microphone to my laptop with audacity but the microphone didn't work. Do I need a input/output for the microphone?
andre carson You need to make sure that one, your mic is recognized by Windows. So check your recording devices manager. If it's not there you may need to download drivers for the mic. If still not there, you may need a splitter for mic/speaker if it's a headset for your laptop. If it is there on the recording devices manager ensure that you change the device in Audacity near the top to the mic's name.
Tutorials with GS I tried recognizing my mic by windows but my voice was never there and I tried to have audacity recognize my voice too still didn't work. I can try to download drivers but I'll need to know what it looks like or a link.
andre carson Need to know what type of mic you have. Then just google "name of your mic" drivers.
Not bad singer
Look at the category 😂😂😂
With some practice, you could be a dope singer.
wait... league of legends, hearthstone, AND GW2? is this just MY taskbar?!?!?!
Sorry! Had to sing Fallen Kingdom instead XD
If your own sound is cheap how can you teach ? Can't hear you even on my 5+1
Excellent video, but don't quit your day job. You can't carry a tune. :-)

ironically, this video is soft as hell...
lmao tbh ur singing isnt that bad
Min 8:23 he is talking about boosting base on the voice the he goes and boosted only noise. DUDE YOUR F VOICE WAVES FOR BASE ARE THE 60HZ TO 130HZ THE FREQUENCIES YOU BOOSTED ARE NOISE DON'T YOU HAVE HEADPHONES TO LISTEN THE THING YOU ARE EDITING ARE YOU DEAF?
you need to make much quicker use of the song. 5 to 10 seconds would be enough. This was painful to listen to!
Chip Knight lmao fucking hilarious
😂😂
This guy can't sing
Please stop singing
