    Just an FYI for anyone using Audacity on a PC and NOT a Mac, its called the "Filter Curve" and not the Equalizer!

    You should be careful increasing in the 4Khz area like you did... it has a tendency to increase sibilance (the hissing "S" noise). I think if you go back and listen you'll hear it. Most people actually slightly reduce in the 3-5Khz (De-essing the "S"). You should increase your EQ above the 6Khz range if you want to help the high end without increasing the sibilance.

    Hi, I've been watching your videos. I have to say congratz. You're trying to help beginners as best as you can, which is always good. But due to the fact that you are talking as well as teaching about recording a voice to a track, EQ, compressions and such, which is a must in all types of recordings. There is one detail that you should at least give your viewers. Which is very important to know, especially for beginners. Cause Audacity is a very good software for beginners, and for more advanced players as well (that I still use for several things) That when it comes to voice recording, no matter the quality of mic or quality of software or quantity of experience. Voice tracks, should always, ALWAYS be recorded on a MONO track, to make sure the equal vocal patterns stay equal in each ear. Which first will give much more life to your vocals, ease your mixing (cause on stereo, you can do a great mixing job and it seem to sound good, but as soon as it hits a set of speakers, the vocals will start bouncing from 1 side to the other, it will sound terrible) I think its a TRUE basic.. Teach your viewers how to turn your track in mono, which is pretty simple on Audacity, and continue your lessons...
    Im not saying you dont know what you're doing, on the contrary, you do a great job in your videos, you teach well, easy to understand, and it'll help beginners a lot. Its just a point I wan't to make. You can delete this if you want! This has nothing to do with showing off and idiocies like that! I just wanted to help.. Thats All.. Good Job

    Appreciate your valuable in-sight and in-depth information and tutorials on using the various features of Audacity. God you you to take the time and effort to break it all down and share your information, for free may I add. so all these people commenting on your vocals or song choices you use, simply don't understand the purpose of your videos is TUTORIAL. So once again thanks for all your input. Cool man.

    Very nice video. EQ is a great tool, but it's hard to use it well. At least for me. After having watched your video, I now have some solid starting point to try to improve my recorded voice for video tutorials, instead of trying to randomly adjust frequencies for a less than optimal result ;)
    A question though. You have very visible asymmetry in your voice for example at 12:42 on the 3 sec mark in the Audacity waveform window : there is a peak with much higher amplitude *below* the 0.0 mark. This is not a bad thing per se, but doesn't that reduce the effectiveness of the compressor and normalization filters ? Is there a way to reduce that asymmetry in the waveform with Audacity ? Other software have phase rotator and stuff like that for that purpose. But I don't see anything here....

    Hi, beginner here. Was paying attention to the Equalization part especially; would i increase the base if my head voice is too weak (compared to the chest voice) to help strengthen it up a bit? (Yes, i know about singing lessons, haha; in progress) Could the compression work well for this issue? Much thanks, I learned a lot!

    After you add equalization, how do you make it so you can compress? I added bass boost as the equalizer then I tried highlighting it like you did but everything is grayed out.

    I have a question.... I'm looking for a program or even off the computer, a way to check which sounds specifically were being produced.... but I need the number values of sounds... I figure this is running off the audio card, but I need to visually see it....do you know of anything like this? unless those spikes on the audio lines were the specific sounds? (I dont understand audio too much, if I were to transfer this audio file to another computer, would it be able to read it? if so, how?) are sounds actually just bytes/kb? or is it those strings of numbers? know of a way to monitor it?

    I wish I knew about Compression sooner. Just really quick, because I got a little confused listening, in compression does the Threshold essentially act as setting a "Max Vol (Volume will not exceed)," and Noise floor a "Minimum Vol (As low as volume is allowed?)"

    On your voiceover editing, can you remove the lows for clarity and still add bass for fullness when you’re EQ’ing?

    • @philliposborn288
      @philliposborn288 5 років тому

      Cut the really low stuff all the way like he did in his first edit. Maybe start below 250. Boost or cut somewhere around 500 and see if that helps. Subtle EQ moves can help you achieve this but don't be afraid of radical EQ moves either. Every voice is different so you'll have to do some trial and error. There are no rules.

    • @keithmeddock1243
      @keithmeddock1243 4 роки тому

      you can highlight a section of audio that is just mic noise like before you start talking or singing. so highlight open mic noise then go to effects, noise reduction, then get a sound profile, after sound profile go back and highlight entire audio track, back to noise reduction effect and apply it by hitting ok.....it should reduce noise based on the profile you took in the steps before and it should reduce it across the entire track, or whatever you have highlighted....if the effect filters too much, undo then try again and reduce the db value of the effect until your happy with result....hope this helps

    • @keithmeddock1243
      @keithmeddock1243 4 роки тому

      i typically only use silence at the beginning and end of an audio track so as to not create unwanted transitions between total silence and all of a sudden audio

    Help, Bad audio windows 10, i think i have narrowed it down to this, Audio Enhancements, on or off, if i watch U tube clips and stuff like that i need them on, if i play a recorded piece of audio i have recorded off the iplayer i need them off....i cant seem to find a common denominator lol.....if i set the equalization in Audacity to simulate the equalization when it is off, it still sounds horrible, question is what do these audio enhancements actually do and can i change it in audacity so i can play anything with them turned on, thats the windows default...i have read a few things about it but doesn't tell me what i want to know...Fred.

    After compression, how do I determine how much louder the track has become? Are there any gauges on Audacity to know this and most importantly, how to I volume down to exactly the 91 db, I am wanting it to be?

    • @TutorialswithGS
      @TutorialswithGS  7 років тому

      andre carson You need to make sure that one, your mic is recognized by Windows. So check your recording devices manager. If it's not there you may need to download drivers for the mic. If still not there, you may need a splitter for mic/speaker if it's a headset for your laptop. If it is there on the recording devices manager ensure that you change the device in Audacity near the top to the mic's name.
