Nioh 2 does not have this issue so you can go NG --> DLC 1 --> DLC 2 --> DLC 3 and then into NG+ for Nioh 2. Just letting you know, and looking forward to more Nioh content from you, especially Nioh 2.

I can't imagine playing nioh in particular on KB&M lol, its really quite an involved combat system. That said kudos to mort, its obviously doable as I know others who've done it - i suspect its probably superior once you get a handle on it as you can likely hit eyeballs / weak points significantly better with the mouse, Ranged weapons are super valuable in nioh too.
Nioh 1 and 2 are both amazing, I platted both and probably played them about 500 hours in total. Stranger of Paradise is also amazing if you're looking for something similar to Nioh.
Probably the most fascinating thing I ever learned about Nioh is that it started off life as Oni, an un-produced film script penned by none other than Akira Kurosawa. If you know Japanese film, that will immediately excite you. Sadly I have no idea what the plot of the original script is because, as far as I know, it's never made it online. Great video, well done. Quick tip: For 100% you will need 70,000 glory to buy one of the skins for a trophy 'Female Impersonator'. I found that in the first part of The Demon King Revealed mission, you get 2 NPS who are very good in dispatching Revenants from the bloody graves. It will take a while but you can combine this with grinding familiarity with different weapons for weapon master trophies. GL and HF.
People always call Nioh souls-like but the truth is Nioh is anti-souls. That's how Nioh fans describe it and very often FromSoft fans have a hard time getting into it (including myself but I plan on giving it a second chance).
Yes... this. 100% agree. It's not a souls-like game, and that's perfectly fine.. but people keep calling it a soulslike game when all it does is take some elements. The game itself is fine, but I was left disappointed.
Yep, I've platinumed Nioh and wouldn't describe it as a souls like, I can see why people would call it that but It's more like an action adventure game imo
Just recently played through Nioh for a 2nd time (played it once 2 years ago, haven't played the sequel) and while the main game is manageable, the DLC absolutely kicked my ass. Considering my 1 playthrough was 45 hours, you are in for a long ride to do what I think is 5 for actually 100% this game. I wish you luck Sir Mortimer. Also the hardcoding button prompts is worse than you think. Even when using a controller, if you remap something like I did with moving block from LB to LT, it will not only change those buttons functionality in the menus for scrolling tabs and such, but it will NOT update the prompts. So great game but horrible non-user friendly interfacing.
The scaling of the Nioh 1 DLC missions on Way of the Samurai feels like as if it was intended to be played with gear from the next difficulty. So if you get gear from Way of the Strong you should be fine beating the 1st and 2nd DLC without big issues and if you get gear from Way of the Demon you should be able to beat all 3 DLCs with no issues. To me it feels like they expect you to at least play Way of the Strong beforehand or tried to compensate for the players who played the game longer before the DLCs came out in regards of scaling. If a boss literally melts your Ki Bar when you block one move with a Heart build, it has to be a stat issue for sure. But AY hear me out - Nioh 2 is a really good sequel that improves on the first game and adds so much stuff to play around with btw. And the DLCs are scaled better so you can beat them all without going up one difficulty beforehand. If you like some combo heavy / DMC type of combo shenanigans, you can get that out of Nioh 2 if you really get into it.
Just yesterday I was disappointed by Wo Long performance on pc, so I searched your review on Nioh and didn't find it. So glad you are finally getting to it
Mortim, love your content. Honestly, I think you're the best reviewer out there, hands down. Nioh is one of those games you can get lost down the rabbit hole on. Excited for your final take.
Notes on Hino-Enma: The cave leading up to her has a complete armor set with paralyse resist, which makes it almost a non-issue. She is weak against most guardian talismans and also against attacks while she is in the air. She also has moves that can be parried but the timing is VERY tight.
I rarely comment on videos. I usually try not to. I'm super happy your playing this game and so far your assessment is right on. The story is nothing special and I actually didn't know about it's development history till this video so that makes more sense. It's passable, IMO, but there are tons of other games out there that cost less with better story. That being said, I think Nioh 1 (and I'm told Nioh 2 is just an evolution of 1) has some of the best combat in gaming. Between the loot system, the elemental system, the weapon system, and the enemies, the game is very engaging and you feel extremely good getting good at this game. The first human vs human fight made me realize this is the closest I'll ever be to what samurai dueling was envisioned to be like back that. I love the combat in the game and I'm excited to see your review of it.
You're opinion on Nioh and Nioh 2 bosses will likely shift as you get better. You'll reach a point when you stand toe to toe with most of them and beat them handily using only your weapons. At first its all the cheese gimics, bombs, magic and frustration and then the basic systems of movement, attacks, abilities and stances finally click and you're the Nioh lol It's a much different curve to Dark Souls. To ease into it I recommend stamina 10 a couple pieces of heavy armor and frequent blocks (blocking is even more stronger than in Dark Souls)
nice of you to cover nioh as well. i believe you also covered Wo Long before. Team Ninja did a great job on both Nioh games based on what i read from feedbacks and reviews comparing it to Wo Long few months ago.
Just finished a marathoning Nioh 1/2 looking forward to seeing what you think of them. Also to add i played both games with keyboard and mouse and now with controller. I was ok playing the first game K&M and it really helped with the bows, but Nioh 2 became a problem when certain moves would require multiple inputs very quickly. For my first playthrough of 2 i missed a crucial mechanic because it just felt too awkward to use
you mean the yokai skills? yeah, they are super awkward to use at first with keyboard and mouse, but I actually got used to it and eventually it became muscle memory
The faster paced combat and deeper weapon specialisation is what made Nioh stand out for me amongst the sea of souls-likes. I personally favoured the Nodachi for smashing through an opponent's Ki, and dual Katana for rapid application of status effects on larger enemies.
I agree with your take on the boss design being kinda janky. Some of them have stupid gimmicks that trivialise the fight but also feel really tough without them, so many players find them to be either cheap or easy (cuz cheese). The stance system is amazing though and I would argue it stimulates a flow state better than any game I've played in years. Playing "fair" is super rewarding 😁
Nice to see you covering the Nioh series. I hope you cover the Surge 2 later on as its one of the few soulsikes where the combat totally clicked for me.
@@trblemayker5157 It takes some getting used to but it does have some hidden mechanics; I particularly love the stationary duck/jump + counter mechanic - reminds me of God Hand or PunchOut. They nerfed that tactic in 2 unfortunately, but the jump + counter still smashes fools with single-rigged(duck+counter does no damage qq, only breaks poise). You can also stack +stamina and +energy cap chips in 1 to become OP, which you can't in 2.
Game balance for debuffs talismans and such is a bit game breaking in the first playthrough since bosses don't really have any resistances. Some parts of balancing feel "correct" only in later difficulties and in the first difficulty you can pretty much do what ever you want and cheese bosses. Same with loot. Gear progression is annoyingly fast in the first playthrough but starts feeling just right on second difficulty. It is like the game was designed for the second difficulty and onwards
The game just got easier and easier for me and I didn't even use the slow down item which is OP af, there were only a couple really challenging bosses, hino emna just because it was a learning curve as an early boss and the electric boss. Other than that the double bosses at the end was hard but again, there's so much at your disposal that you can make it easier if you want to
This is one of my favorite bro, I've played it like 6 times. If you want a build of what I use, I'll tell ya. Have fun man and enjoy it. If you get Nioh 2, Odachi and fist weapons are OP.
oooh. Haha. Welcome! Enjoy your stay! Exceptionally amazing game! Neh, the shoebox themed level design though ... ok! And it can be made even better(to the, frankly, amazingly high levels), but that requires more lax conscience.
Heeeyyy our boi Mort is taking a look at Nioh and Nioh 2 ^.^v I hope that you enjoy the fast paced, combo heavy action. And I couldn't imagine navigating 8 way direction and quick movement with W A S D, you really are something else man. Keep up the great work and take care.
If you fancy a deep dive into the combat of the Nioh games then tips from Last to Load and PooferLlama's Nioh Academy series can help you expand from the basics to learning the advanced techs
Factual statement. Though L2L is a bit more advanced than 99% of players will ever need to be (basically, just taking your skill, and stylish combos, to their highest potential), just not necessary to beat even way of the nioh. But fun, and added insight for those of us that really click with the combat, and crave more. He knows all the cool tech, and just how the mechanics all work. Poofer is the master though. He can teach players regardless of your interest in the combat, or your skill level. The academy alone is basically 100 videos on just how to practically put into practice, how to get the most of out each weapon. Great for mastering the basics, or for making a semi skilled player into one of the pros. And entertaining, as well as accommodating to viewer requests. The fact that there's 100+ videos on covering just essential mastery of the combat, shows how deep that rabbit hole goes. As well as the fact, there's an interest in learning that depth of the combat from thousands of players. However, this only really applies to Nioh 2 (though you could deconstruct the lessons to apply them to 1, sort of. 1 is much less complex, not as deep). L2L however has tips for both games. They're both really skilled, but offer different things
i think some issues like the janky level desing and such are issues only if you play the game quickly, as if you were to play a diablo dungeon (which is totally understandable seeing how the game blends the genres). My ng took me around 70-80 hours to complete but i also read every codex and looked every corner of each mission, but thats also how i fell in love with everything. I know you probably have to hurry, as a content creator and i understand that, but i hope you'll be able to appreciate the game anyway. It's nice seeing more people play this!
I struggled to go back to the first Nioh when I reinstalled it last year, I enjoyed it at the time but after having played the sequel - it just dwarfs it in every single way. Definitely a good choice starting at the beginning imo. Also, I recall the sloth onmyo magic being incredibly strong in Nioh1, I didn't use much in the way of magic so can't vouch for it personally - but might be worth a look if you struggle or need a leg up getting to grips with some bosses.
It’s got a ton of content. Good luck on all of the challenge missions. I beat a bunch of them, but eventually I got tired of them and just finished the game.
One thing about this game and its sequel that Souls game veterans does not realize is that you need to block attacks sometimes. The enemies in this game often have fast attacks and combos with shorter wind up time than what is practical to dodge. But every weapon is a 100% phys shield and fast attacks will do little stamina damage. In Souls games you can dodge 100% of enemy attacks, but here its not ideal. There are pretty much three different kinds of attacks in this game based on how to deal with them. Slow attacks that can be dodged (but I think you have fewer iFrames in this game.) Fast attacks that should be blocked and followed up with a counter attack. And grabs/ combos that should be spaced by running/dodging away. I bring this up because the vampire lady in this video is a prime example of an enemy that you *need* to block. Because she is way to fast and have too much range to dodge her effectively.
Should follow up and say that not every weapon is equally good at blocking. But even the Axe, that is the worst at it is useable for it. Dual weapons are usually the best at it. Also the "mid"-stance will empower your block stat.
Unlike the real things, Nioh goes on sale on steam fairly frequently so I was wondering if I might try it someday as my first souls-like. Nice to hear it's at least doable with K/M. Thank you for the video.
Lol now you're down the worm hole Nioh and Nioh 2 are amazing games. The darker atmosphere was much better in Nioh and I enjoyed having a character with a more defined identity and role in the world, but the combat was so amazing in Nioh 2 (but good in both)
I didn't play the first one and didn't see any footage of it to be fair, but if you told me this was Nioh 2 with low graphics settings I would believe you... the two look so damn similar. As for the stubbornness regarding controllers, I'm totally on the same side. I didn't play on consoles when I was a kid, mostly because in a country like mine back then, that wasn't something your average denizen could afford, I only knew a single kid in the hood that had a console; so I grew up with PC games only. You can't tell someone that has spend almost all his life using a M&C to just "switch" to a controller when they have zero muscle memory for it. I personally also find them very uncomfortable to use for long periods time with you having to wipe your hands every 10 minutes from sweat, not to mention the triggers taking far too much time to reach in situations where you have to act asap.
While being janky in some ways I think Nioh 1 really has charm. It’s one of my favorite games I’ve ever played, the second one definitely improves on the game by a lot though, which is great! I myself swapped between mouse and keyboard and controller and ended up preferring m&k.
I really enjoy Nioh, but I feel that it is a game which really shouldn't be 100%-ed since the optional end game stuff like the double boss fights leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth. It's as if instead of creating some new unique bosses at the end like Malenia or Orphan of Kos they just threw something together 10 minutes before deadline.
Pro tip: pick up the "flux" perk early, and learn to stance change on ki pulse. I imagine youll have to get creative with the control setup if youre not using a controller
Have had this game on my backlog for a while, very curious for your final review. Btw, I'm curious why you don't play Souls-likes on controller? Considering you do play some games on Steam Deck, I assume you are not fundamentally opposed to the idea of playing PC games on a gamepad. Obviously play the game however works best for you, but I've always been curious why some people (well, some UA-camrs I follow, and now you) hold this stance for Souls-likes in particular, considering those games are usually console-native, so gamepad controls feel like the the "canonical" way to play them.
I don't understand souls fan's obsession with controllers either. I've played all of dark souls and elden ring with keyboard and mouse and never had any problem. Plus its very awkward to controller the camera with controller.
Pretty much all of the biggest issues I had with Nioh 1 were remedied hard in Nioh 2: its level design, gimmick bosses, living weapon being too easy to abuse, and NG+ not really feeling as natural on launch. I'm actually one of the people that really likes the loot system, and found Wo Long's version of it really disappointing (I think I played 65% of Wo Long with a basic Dao sword I found because of it good stats and skills). Meanwhile; in Nioh 1/2 a NG run is all about swapping gear to whatever suits your build, and then NG+ and beyond is about cracking open the build crafting.
I mentioned in my Wo Long review that one of it's problem was that you'd find the armor weapons you'd want to use within the first few missions and then just be vendoring truck loads of loot from then on.
@@MortismalGaming yeah; that issue does not exist in Nioh 1, and especially in Nioh 2. From my understanding; the devs wanted to roll back and simplify the loot system for newcomers, but unintentionally made it a much worse system, where loot drops are unexciting. I think I changed up my build a total of 1 time for Wo Long; fighting the first Lu Bu boss, and then pretty much steamrolled the game without a second thought. In Nioh 2 for example; the mid-to-good loot would be worth picking up, as you could use it for materials to improve your main gear. And later NG+ cycles make loot into aRPG levels of min-maxing and farming; it gets pretty addicting to hunt for pieces you want, and build various sets for every occasion.
Ninjutsu in Nioh is overpowered as hell. 90% of bosses can be trivialized by just chucking kunai and shuriken at them. I'm aweful at these kinds of games and all of the various tools ninjutsu gives you to use really made the game much more playable for me.
I see you use mid stance. I used high stance almost all the time and made short work of the enemies. Medium and Low are way inferior not only as effectiveness, but the satisfaction of cutting the enemies to pieces.
Nioh is one of THOSE games I would never ever recommend anyone to try to 100%. It is an amazing game in the first 3 playthroughs but it becomes incredibly unfair from then on (levels are full of hyper-buffed enemies and the DLC bosses are just ridiculously overpowered) and grinding the levels between NG cycles is terrible. That said, the gameplay is fantastic, the historic background is nice if you know of the events, andthe New Games themselves add so much, it's amazing. One can really see how much work got put into this. Exclusive enemies, new mechanics, new items and gear, exclusive missions, and a gauntlet of curated levels with a boss at the end. Nioh 2 is better in basically every way but Nioh 1 was pretty good. I was actually upset with how few bosses and levels got recycled for Nioh 2.
I love Nioh, although Nioh 2 is my personal favorite. I feel like calling either of them "Soulslike" isn't accurate because Nioh is much more like DMC than Souls. They have a few things in common but otherwise it's a completely different ballgame.
I believe there's 1 achievement which is RNG. You need to equip 2 or 3 items, 1 of which is rare - Yata Mirror. I think this drop on NG+, I'm not entirely sure. Also unpopular opinion, for me, Nioh 1 story is better than Nioh 2. There's a hard end-game content once you have finished all the NG. I forgot if it is part of the 100% achievement, I think you need to complete at least 30 (or 40?) floors of the end game content.
I can't even fathom how anyone would play a Souls-like with Mouse and keyboard. But then, I get muscle spasms, so literally can't use a mouse for aiming without it looking like the camera was thrown down a staircase. I have to use a controller because my hands shaking doesn't impact aim nearly as much.
I agree with your thoughts it's not a not a Soulslike game... to me it'a just an action game with some 'soulslike elements'. I was left disappointed, but that's because it's talked up as a Soulslike game and so I went in with that idea.
Hi mortim first I would like to mention something very important for you to enjoy and make nioh more manageable, that is perfect ki pulse. You see when you attack, instead of waiting for your stamina to recover or spend time recovering from the last attack you make, boom a big portion of your stamina is back and you cancel the recover animation so you can either defend or keep the offense immediately after ki pulse
I think what you said pretty much sums it up. Nioh is to Dark Souls what Diablo is to... Baldur's Gate I guess, for the lack of a better comparison. Meaning that 90% of the fun in Nioh is the same as the fun in Diablo. The campaign and story are alright but the build crafting and specially the combat system are the main attraction. The comparison between Nioh and Diablo gets stronger the more you optimize builds and play NG cycles. The first play through you're hitting for normal damage and dodging, in NG++ you might be running a burst damage build that focuses on Iai Quickdraw damage and damage dealt to paralyzed enemies, so instead of playing "like Souls", you're debuffing the bosses and annihilating them with 4 or 5 quickdraws. That's just one example of what you can do in the game. I'll say that you should keep your expectations in check for Nioh 2, in terms of combat, rpg and endgame systems, it'a a masterpiece and that's why people say it's fantastic (and it is) but if you're expecting a change in structure or storytelling, you'll be disappointed. In some ways it's exactly like Nioh 1.
I got this game for free from Epic a couple years ago and still haven't played it. Some day I will give it a try. Maybe. I admittedly suck at anything souls like; it took me 300 hours to beat Elden Ring, and that was with help of spirit ashes with almost all the bosses. lol.
You were being punished for not practicing techniques and not using all your tools. I smashed my head into that until I decided to learn. Nioh and Nioh 2 are certainly not for most people.
If you use what’s at your disposal, look up a build guide then the game gets super easy. You just dont understand yet what you can use. I felt the same way when I started until I researched and then it got super fun using the techniques and ninjutsu
There's so many things at your disposal that makes the game relatively easy. The slow down time thing is stupidly OP, I refused to use it until the double boss fights at/after the end of the game but yeah, anyone can beat this game (the main game at least, maybe not 100%)
@@TheAtkinson118 lol sorry, I love these games. Especially Nioh 2. I have limited time now as a father so I take it like going up the mountain and becoming a ninja hahaha.
I'm surprised anyone would play third person action games with k&m instead of a controller. Is there an achievement for that in a game ? That would be funny. Props for sticking to your guns if that's your thing though, Mort.
I think the best way to approach your issue with controllers without losing credibility as a reviewer would be to focus on issues of accessibility, rather than expressing your unwillingness to, ever, use a controller (even when it is understood as the intended way to play).
This was, is, and always will be a PC channel so I'm not really concerned about credibility with a controller. I'm not reviewing FF16 until it hits PC, and how it performs on PC will be my angle there as an example. If you put a game on PC it should be playable with a mouse and keyboard or you should not bother, that is part of what goes into making a port to other platforms. If you bought a game on console that only represented KBM that would be a problem as well. In this case, the hard coded controller prompts are an accessibility issue, even if it is old news.
@@MortismalGaming I'm not trying to upset you, I really like your channel. I'm just trying to point out that your conclusion that USB enabled controllers have no place in PC gaming is, in fact, an opinion. Many, hardcore, PC gamers are only able to play games with a controller- and they do, very well- so, again, I think you should stick with issues of accessibility- rather than, "Controller bad." Obviously Nioh is a nightmare, I agree that it's absurd to not have KBM inputs- but I think a more level approach would be to attack the lack of options- rather than air out your grievances specifically for controller, or make adrift claims like controllers don't belong in PC gaming or must always be second to KBM. These claims aren't necessary to make, and lessen your grasp on objectivity, imo. You're my favourite youtube reviewer, but the emotional way you talk about controllers is an odd outlier.
@@pault.6653 I'm not upset, nor am I emotional. I'm stating my opinions on the matter, and I'm glad you like the channel. I simply do not like using a controller, so I don't. It begins and ends right there. I never said controllers don't belong in PC gaming, that's a conclusion you arrived at on your own. I also didn't air out any grievances about a controller as I dont have any beyond my own inability to use one effectively. People can use whatever method they prefer, and I prefer KBM. KBM is the primary input method for PC though, that is an objective fact. You seem to have misunderstood me from the beginning, but thank you for the suggestions.
@@MortismalGaming The only times you've seemed especially emotive is whenever you've spoken about controllers, I'm just suggesting that maybe you just don't talk about them on your KBM purist channel. Stating that KBM is "the primary input method for PC" as an objective fact while you consciously ignore developers' intended way to play multiple games, really does seem to suggest that you, personally, feel that controllers have no place in PC gaming. When you go on to share your absolute and unmoving frustrations about controllers and controller players- it lessens you dramatically as an objective critic, hence my suggestion you focus on accessibility, rather than your personal opinions. I'll condense my point and leave it at this: You sharing your personal distaste for controllers and controller players adds nothing to a review.
@@pault.6653 Again, you keep trying to decide how I feel and attributing things to me that I have not said, and ignoring my stated opinions to reinforce your own points. If it bothers you that much I'd recommend finding a different reviewer, and let me be concerned with the nuances of running my channel.
Nioh 1 is wonderful. Nioh 2 is good, but not great imo. Mostly because the Yokai Shift counters need work and the Guardian Spirits are too specific. As in you can do one thing well with each Spirit, not two. The burst Counters also imo need some aberrant ones that have a different counter than the type. That being said, it’s only my opinion.

I’ve also sunk a huge amount of time into the Nioh games, the end game and co-op are so fun and rewarding
Have you ever played Team Ninja's Ninja Gaiden series?
Nice! Maybe you can help me get past a few of the bosses that wreck me every time!
Nioh opened my eyes to the souls series and remains one of my favorite games of all time. Enjoy your play through.

I had the same experience with the DLC. I was looking up no hit DLC boss fights because my character was so underpowered.
_i am soooo happy to see you begin this game._
regardless how you evaluate it, i'm just happy to know that you will experience it
i second that.
Just yesterday I was disappointed by Wo Long performance on pc, so I searched your review on Nioh and didn't find it. So glad you are finally getting to it
On the NG plus'es the enemies change attack patterns and spawn differently through the levels
Mortim, love your content. Honestly, I think you're the best reviewer out there, hands down. Nioh is one of those games you can get lost down the rabbit hole on. Excited for your final take.
I ADORE Nioh 2, it's probably one of the best Diablo-style games ever made for my tastes.
This game was really fun. Didn’t realize tho that 100% it would take it soooooo long.
one of my favorite reviewers talking about one of my favorite games? fuck yeah bro
Could not get into this grindfest, give me a souls game anyday! Good show sir
Notes on Hino-Enma:
The cave leading up to her has a complete armor set with paralyse resist, which makes it almost a non-issue.
At first its all the cheese gimics, bombs, magic and frustration and then the basic systems of movement, attacks, abilities and stances finally click and you're the Nioh lol
It's a much different curve to Dark Souls.
To ease into it I recommend stamina 10 a couple pieces of heavy armor and frequent blocks (blocking is even more stronger than in Dark Souls)
When I as a kid, I suffered so much in this game; had NO IDEA how to play it.
nice of you to cover nioh as well. i believe you also covered Wo Long before.
This is such an excellent game but it will be difficult to 100%!
Nice to see you covering the Nioh series. I hope you cover the Surge 2 later on as its one of the few soulsikes where the combat totally clicked for me.
Don't skip The Surge 1, it's better than 2 in some respects(mainly story and atmosphere).
@@torrasque0151 I've tried it but the combat in 2 was much better imo. I do agree that 1's atmosphere is great
@@trblemayker5157 It takes some getting used to but it does have some hidden mechanics; I particularly love the stationary duck/jump + counter mechanic - reminds me of God Hand or PunchOut. They nerfed that tactic in 2 unfortunately, but the jump + counter still smashes fools with single-rigged(duck+counter does no damage qq, only breaks poise). You can also stack +stamina and +energy cap chips in 1 to become OP, which you can't in 2.
@@torrasque0151 Interesting. I like the directional blocking in 2. It made fights so much easier since I'm terrible at all Souls games
A true MnK chad player
Hi Mortym! Nioh is such a fun game with awesome lore. Glad you're giving it a go.
Damn you are in for a ride, definitely play Nioh 2 afterwards, one of the best Souls-inspired games ever.
Nioh 2 has MKB scheme and not too bad, so no worries
Other than that the double bosses at the end was hard but again, there's so much at your disposal that you can make it easier if you want to
Never played but curious to see your review
The story presentation in 2 is much better, better story too IMO.
Every time you reiterate using a keyboard and mouse for souls like games, my brain goes into a "does not compute" loop. lol
Enjoy the game and good luck with the 100%! I really loved this game.
Nioh is great but Nioh 2 is amazing 🤩
i think some issues like the janky level desing and such are issues only if you play the game quickly, as if you were to play a diablo dungeon (which is totally understandable seeing how the game blends the genres).
Nioh 1 is one of my favorite games of all time,I love this masterpiece! ❤ ( 09-29-24 ) Sunday
as you said "controllers"
I was waiting for a mini steam deck review
Nioh 1+2 were so good. Some of the toughest bosses and the most consistently challenging.. absolutely love them..
It’s got a ton of content. Good luck on all of the challenge missions. I beat a bunch of them, but eventually I got tired of them and just finished the game.
I don't think nioh story has bad narrative, it actually is pretty cool how they teach you history with a fantasy twist
Oooohhh i'm so exited
Lol now you're down the worm hole
Nioh and Nioh 2 are amazing games.
The darker atmosphere was much better in Nioh and I enjoyed having a character with a more defined identity and role in the world, but the combat was so amazing in Nioh 2 (but good in both)
Mortim do you plan on covering final fantasy 16 at all?
when it hits pc
there is izuna drop so 10/10 for me xD
Nioh 1 and 2 are great games. Love them both. 2 has some added features that does make it a better game than 1 to me.
One day i’ll go back to that game and beat the goddamn Centipede boss!!
I myself swapped between mouse and keyboard and controller and ended up preferring m&k.
absolutely based for using mouse and keyboard, cheers
I really enjoy Nioh, but I feel that it is a game which really shouldn't be 100%-ed since the optional end game stuff like the double boss fights leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth. It's as if instead of creating some new unique bosses at the end like Malenia or Orphan of Kos they just threw something together 10 minutes before deadline.
Hoooo boy. I wonder how long it would take to 100% this one. Good luck
@@violau8550 I've managed to reach Way of the Wise, that took me short of 300 hours, and then the grind finally outweighed the fun of combat.
I've played on PC almost my entire life and the muscle memory for a controller just isnt there which makes a controller feel bad for action games.
@@MortismalGaming Fair enough, thanks for the answer 🙂
Good info. 👍
I haven't watched the video yet. This game is sooooooo good one of the best games I have played. GLHF!
Play with a controller? You mean, like, a casual? Onward to 200k. All glory to the algorithm.
I swear I'm the only one that enjoys the level design of the Nioh games lol
I mean it's fine, just very odd
"I'm 15h in and haven't even seen all the systems"
There are systems that aren't unlocked until NG++++
I don't understand souls fan's obsession with controllers either. I've played all of dark souls and elden ring with keyboard and mouse and never had any problem. Plus its very awkward to controller the camera with controller.
Right I am not gonna exchange my mouse speed over a slow ass controller.
I also play with keyboard and mouse it's hard at first but i got used to
Pretty much all of the biggest issues I had with Nioh 1 were remedied hard in Nioh 2: its level design, gimmick bosses, living weapon being too easy to abuse, and NG+ not really feeling as natural on launch.
It's by far the best souls game from non From Software.
I see you use mid stance. I used high stance almost all the time and made short work of the enemies. Medium and Low are way inferior not only as effectiveness, but the satisfaction of cutting the enemies to pieces.
I spent around 70h to get platinum in base game, it is not 100% of course, so I can only imagine how much grinding it requires to 100%
Waiting for nioh 2 also ❤
Nioh is one of THOSE games I would never ever recommend anyone to try to 100%.
@@violau8550what makes it so time consuming to 100%? I got the plat in not too long but had enough by then so didn't bother with 109%
I love Nioh, although Nioh 2 is my personal favorite.
I didn't really like the first nioh, however i loved nioh 2, best combat in any souls-like game
I’m currently struggling on this title
Go light armour and dual wield or single katana, and a pole arm if you want range... also use ninjitsu and the slow time item is OP
@@fatbroccoli8 thanks man I’ll try this
I agree with your thoughts it's not a not a Soulslike game... to me it'a just an action game with some 'soulslike elements'.
Maybe. I admittedly suck at anything souls like; it took me 300 hours to beat Elden Ring, and that was with help of spirit ashes with almost all the bosses. lol.
Nioh is easy compared to FromSoft games
Nioh always felt more like a "Gaiden-like", based on Team Ninja's take on the Ninja Gaiden series.
I had a bad time with this game. Some of the bosses were so frustrating to me that it felt like I was being punished for playing.
Cheese feels required in a game like this
Good luck on the 100% for Nioh 2. The Depths are a pain
Easy peazy
Nioh:
+ great combat
-everything else
I highly HIGHLY recommend skipping Nioh 1 and going straight to Nioh 2.
Many, hardcore, PC gamers are only able to play games with a controller- and they do, very well- so, again, I think you should stick with issues of accessibility- rather than, "Controller bad."
Obviously Nioh is a nightmare, I agree that it's absurd to not have KBM inputs- but I think a more level approach would be to attack the lack of options- rather than air out your grievances specifically for controller, or make adrift claims like controllers don't belong in PC gaming or must always be second to KBM.
That being said, it’s only my opinion.
the one who play it late the one he taste it last
Spent more time with Nioh 1 than with all Souls/Borne Games together
this will be a long one
Holy crap, you can play Souls-likes with Keyboard & Mouse? That’s like playing them with a Guitar Hero controller! 😂
