Welcome to the fourth episode of "LICK LIKE"
This series is not about learning the exact licks the artists play. More importantly it's about capturing the artist's vibe and essence and getting licks in their style to incorporate (or steal!) into your own playing and solo's.
In today's Lick Like, we look at John Frusciante. Even though it's impossible to capture John Frusciante's style in just 5 licks, Danny has tried to create 5 catchy licks, reminiscent of John's performance at Slane Castle, and the Stadium Arcadium era.
One great "trick" to create melodic solos that people can sing along to, is to come up with a catchy idea and repeat it, either in a different way or an octave above. This is a key way to help create a John Frusciante style solo or if you've been struggling to create a John Frusciante style improvisation piece.
We hope you enjoyed this John Frusciante lick lesson! If you want to nail the John Frusciante guitar technique, just grab your guitar and play it like you mean it! Lose yourself over a backing track and see what comes out!

Looking on UA-cam at Gordon Smith S style guitars, and watched your vid, but see the week after (this vid) you're back to a Fender. How do they compare, and do you still have the GS? (thinking about getting one!)
Hey Dave, I don't have the S style anymore but I have their Gatsby and absolutely love it! All of their guitars have been great, would 100% recommend
@@TheLickLoft Thanks -the Gatsby looks/sounds awesome!
Very cool!!! Thanks
Thank you Joao :) We are glad he is back in the band!!
Great vid - excellent channel short sweet an v useful
Thanks Tim, appreciate it! :)
How did you get that sound? Nice vid 🤘🏻
Hey Leonardo, the equipment used is listed in the description on the video :) Thanks for watching!
The only thing i found bad in this video was when you stopped playing....i wanted you to go and on... cause it's about Mr. John Frusciante!!
Thank you Saurabh! There is no way I could ever emulate the man himself! I just wanted to try and make some licks that might be useful In the style of John :)
What was the song on the begin?
It was a backing track we made in the style of John/RHCP, similar to a jam they did at Slane Castle. The solo was improvised over the top but it includes the licks we are teaching in this video
the guitar sounds is a little bit ugly but I like it
Thanks!
your vibrato is different... more of a rock style. John does it different
I could never copy John, I just tried to create some licks in the style of him for people to use as they wish :)
NOBODY can play like JF
